Simply the worst experience I've ever had dealing with any business in my life. It's been a few weeks since the move, and I felt I had to share my experience so that anyone thinking of doing business with TDY knows the pitfalls that could happen if you don't take EVERY precaution. I was lied to from moment 1, when Jessica answered my e-mail inquiry. I filled out the online inventory quote pages, let them know what I had, and how much stuff. Spoke with Jessica about it, verified how many pieces I had in total, and got a quote based on that. I even modified the quote to account for extra things, and was presented an updated higher quote. I was concerned with shipping time, and she assured me I would have my things in 3-5 days. (Not even close). She said everything I wanted to hear so that I would book the job. Hey, that's her job right? I ended up booking the job with them, because they seemed to have good reviews online (more on that later) and the price quote was attractive. (if it seems too good to be true...) Well moving day came, and the crew showed up. I will say, those guys were great, friendly, and worked quickly, and with care. They packed our things nicely, and took apart our furniture. The problem is, when the foreman first walked in, he looked at our stuff, and told us we had DOUBLE the cubic footage that was on our quote. That made our moving cost OVER $1900 HIGHER than the first quote. Needless to say, I was not at all happy. Several phone calls back and forth with the office, and they 'discounted' the cost, but it still ended up costing me $1300 more than the first quote. So their inventory quote page was wrong by 500 cubic feet? To put that in perspective, that's 10 full size refrigerators. ( I didn't even move any appliances!!) Our backs were against the wall. Our lease was up, and we had to get out of the house we were renting, and were driving out of state that day. So we went ahead with it even though we didn't want to, and in hind-sight, should NOT have done. So after that rough start, it only got worse. I was lied to... maybe 5 or 6 times, about when I would have my stuff. Jessica told me 3-5 days. I got picked up on Saturday, she told me to call Monday and I could speak to 'dispatch', and they would let me know when my stuff would arrive. Well monday came and went with no answer. No call back, no e-mail replies. I heard from someone on Tuesday, who told me my stuff wasn't loaded for delivery yet. Several times I was told that at a certain time I would hear back about when the truck would arrive that my stuff would be loaded on. Several times I was told the truck didn't come, or didn't have enough room, or whatever the excuse of the day was. I was contacted eventually by the owner of the company. He said they fired Jessica for her mistakes (who knows if that's true, her name is still listed in their Yelp description!), and that he was losing money to discount my job. I've been in the sales industry for 13 years. The fact that he claimed that was insulting to my intelligence. What he seems to forget, is that move cost me $1300 more than I was quoted. Who lost money here? Do yourself a favor. Get in home estimates. Have people come and actually see and touch the things you are bringing. Maybe then it can be somewhat accurate. In summary, poor customer service, bogus lowball quote, failed promise after failed promise, and longer than expected delivery time. Oh... and the 100% rating on Yelp? That's because they hide the non flattering reviews on the page. Dig a little, you will find them. I won't be surprised when this review gets hidden. As a business man, I'm disgusted with how I was treated. As a consumer, I regret ever having done business with them. Mike and Rick.... I hope you improve how you quote people. If my quote had been accurate, and I knew how much you were actually going to charge, I would have rented a Uhaul and done it myself. I had to move from Brooklyn, NY to Austin, TX for work and needed a reliable moving company. After reading a few Yelp reviews, I decided to go with TDY Moving. I contacted Jessica, who was very nice and sent me a quote right away based on the number of boxes and types of furniture I had counted. On the actual moving day, things ran a little late but the movers were nice and professional. I understand that the traffic is something they cannot control. They were supposed to show up and 9 am and leave by 11 am. I had a flight at 2:30 pm. They showed up at 11 and worked pretty fast and got done at 1pm. I barely made it to the airport but I got there. I agreed to a certain maximum charge with Jessica and they charged me that, plus the cost of all the packing materials, which was standard practice, I guess. About a week later, I was told my things would arrive on an afternoon. The truck didn't show up until 11 pm but again, traffic and coordination make it difficult even at best of times. You should anticipate it. Unfortunately, months later my husband and I realized we were missing some items. Nothing expensive, just old family photo albums and cook books. I let TDY know way too late about the missing stuff. Mike and Ed called me right away and we talked about what we can do. The truth is, not much because so much time has passed but they're looking. I really appreciate Mike calling me and being so honest and sweet. He offered to pay for the missing stuff, but since the things have such a sentimental value I would just like them to try and find it. I'll keep updating the post as the situation progresses. I will say I changed my review after talking to Mike and Ed and having them explain what happened. These guys really care about their customers, so I would definitely give them a call if you have to move. Just understand with any long-distance move, there might be weather and traffic delays. I've done the uhaul do it yourself route the amount of time and energy needed not to mention the damage I caused to some of my furniture wasn't worth the aggravation again for this move. As a previous poster mentioned price wasn't the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive either. Guys were on time, nice, professional and everything was handled with care. My experience with TDY moving was a disaster. They arrived over 2 hours late. I was extremely organized and had all of my boxes already stacked right by the ground floor door where they could be loaded into the truck, (eliminating the need for the elevator) but it became obvious that the movers were going to make the move take as long as possible. The three guys moved slowly and were sullen. I had a cheap IKEA table to be moved, and they insisted on removing the legs and wrapping it up as if it was a precious antique, so that it took 45 minutes to load. In general, they were uncooperative and slow. I felt totally ripped off, and the foreman of the crew was aggressive when I declined to tip them. The move cost me at least $300.00 more than it should have, and my advice is to stay clear of this outfit if you don't want to get ripped off. NO STARS read more

This is got to be the worst moving company out there they lost 3 of my boxes destroyed my beautiful chair which was new two huge rips in it broke a vintage mirror and shipped to large pieces from the bottom of a bookcase did not want to take any responsibility told me my mirror was going to be dropped off by UPS never did I had to drive to Brooklyn retrieve my mirror and these assholes couldn't wait to get it into my car quick enough to come home and discover that the whole top of this beautiful vintage mirror was broken off went through their claims department had my mirror fixed $475 and their claims department is paying me $18 run as fast as you can they all are thieves bullshit artists and I wouldn't trust them to move my ant farm they had me rate them with stars otherwise this would not post do not pay attention to the Stars they get none they suck read more

Beware of these movers! They didn't wrap the furniture with blankets on my move through my 4th floor walk up and caused $1800 worth of damage to the walls and ceiling! They even broke a light fixture during the process. I called the company to complain and after 5 days of radio silence, I finally got the owner's email address and only after reaching out to him, did I get a call back. They refused to cover the cost of the repairs and offered instead to send out a painter to fix the walls for me. I thought that would be okay, but the painter they sent left a total mess my stairwell. I've used many movers in NYC with varying degrees of success, but nothing compares to the disappointment of this experience. Please do yourself a favor and use another company. read more

I finally have time to sit down and write this review. So I used TDY's services to relocate from NYC to Georgia. Overall it was just an okay experience. I would probably only use the services again if I was back in NYC moving within the city. The process was definitely not smooth and I felt like I found out a lot of things as we went along and there were some communication issues. I apologize in advance for how long this will be but I think it is important for people to understand all the things that should be considered. 1- I described everything I had to them and even overestimate the number of boxes I would have for my quote. Upon picking up my items I ended up being charged extra because my stuff took up more space in the truck. There was a guy in my apartment labeling things while the rest of the team actually put things in the truck. The guy told me had he been the one packing it in the truck it would have been able to fit in the space that was estimated for me but the other guys loaded it differently than he would have. So for me that was a little off putting to know that what I am charged is being based on whoever ends up putting my things in the truck. And I was surprised I went over the space because like I said I quoted more boxed than I actually ended up having 2- the communication about when my things would arrive was not great. I got a call saying the guy would likely come within the week. I called a few days later and was told he had not left the city yet. I called a few days later and they said it would probably be two more days but they were not sure because the driver was not answering the phone. The next day I get a call from the driver saying he is at my apartment....I was at work at the time. He did not call me 48-72 hours in advance like I was told he would so I was not expecting him and ended up having to leave work in the middle of the day 3- There was miscommunication about the rules for charging extra depending on the distance from the truck. When my things were picked up I was told the measurement was from the truck to the apartment building but found out it is actually from the truck to your front door. So based on where the guy ended up parking the truck it was considered a long-haul. I pointed out that if he moved the truck and came up the one flight of stairs (instead of walking to the elevator) my door would be closer. But he said he would have to charge for stairs (though it was 1 flight as outlined in their materials) and he couldn't or didn't want to move the truck. So it ended up being another additional charge. And since I preferred to pay by cashiers check I had to leave to go to the bank because the amount I originally had ended up changing. 4 - I realized the inventory was wrong so this caused confusion as my things were being delivered because I was looking for things that were not listed (and I blame myself to some extent because I should have looked more closely at the pick-up). One of my items was actually mixed in with another person's items on the truck. The team that picked it up did not label it with my items. Luckily it was still on truck. Another one of my items I did not end up getting. I realized there were more boxes written on the inventory than the number of boxes I actually had. So like I said I should have been paying closer attention 5- a few of my boxes were mangled. Which the company says if they do not pack it they cannot be held accountable which is understandable. But due to the nature of my work I move every 2 or so years...and I always pack myself and I have never received my boxes in this condition. A few were literally split in multiple pieces and its clear someone tried to tape it back together. it literally looked like they had been thrown off the truck. Overall they do have generally good customer service and everyone is responsive though I felt like I was getting unclear or competing information. I gave 3 1/2 stars because my things got to me in a timely manner and overall there were in an out quickly. But it was not a smooth or worry free process and ended up being more of a headache than I anticipated. I would recommend them for moves within the city but I would have reservations about a cross country move. read more

We couldn't have had a better experience working with TDY. Everyone from the owners to the movers were exceptionally professional and not once did we feel like we were being taken advantage of. John Romano was the first person I spoke to at TDY and right from the start he wanted to setup an in person quote (something no other company offered) and advised me of the best moving company practices. He was honest and truly wanted us to minimize the stress of moving from the start. When we were visited for a quote, the owner could not have been more professional and he clearly knew what he was talking about. The price was a bit more than we expected to pay but we later realized that it would be the standard rate for what we needed. During the day of the move we were smiling more than anything else since we could not believe how easy the movers were making this step for us. They showed up about 2 hours earlier than we wanted (which we weren't happy about initially) but they kindly waited while we got ready for the day. We allotted certain time frames we thought it would take for each location and they were done well within that range. They moved FAST (2 pickup locations and 1 drop off in under 4 hours) and wrapped anything we didn't think needed wrapping (they are the professionals afterall) so we were ensured our items were safe. The men themselves (can't remember their names!) were extremely nice, professional, and knowledgeable. They seemed to have gotten along with each other as well which is refreshing. We even got a call from the owner right after the move to make sure we were happy! We had a friend meet us at the last location and he was just as impressed with TDY as well. We booked this company because of the Yelp reviews. Our team (headed by John) was great. 5 mins early, never stopped working (took about 8 hours to move because we moved out of 2 apartments then to the final move in apartment), and even expertly disassembled my couch to get it through the door, didn't have to call the couch doctor. Polite, and efficient! I took away 1 star because of a little lack of communication when I called originally. I was given the option of a 3 man or 4 man team ($159 & $185 an hour respectively). However. I also told them how much stuff, flights etc...I was told that a typical team would be 3 men. Because it was cheaper, I took that option. THIS WAS A 4 MAN TEAM JOB in retrospect. The workers even acknowledged it after about halfway through the second apartment because of number of floors to walk up (they passed things floor to floor) and number of items. It would have cost less had I done the 4 person because it probably would have taken 2 hours less. ALSO: they charge you for wardrobe boxes 15.00 each. We had 7. Last move, the company brought in boxes they had used before and just put the clothes in and took them out. No fee. I paid for all 7 boxes and they took them away after. Was not informed of that at all. $105 for wardrobe boxes?!?! Had I known, I would have packed the clothes in the hangers. Just ask more questions about supplies upfront (I ended up paying $325 in supplies picture boxes, tv boxes, wardrobe boxes etc...) and pack accordingly. read more

They were able to have someone do an estimate same day and have a crew in to move us out next day based on our tight timelines. Their delivery showed up 10 days later in San Francisco with no issues. Both the move out and move in crews were great, they never complained once moving items out of our seventh story walk up. In addition, our account rep was great at providing us up to date information and helping coordinate with their contracted driver. I've done a big move only once before and had possibly one of the worst experiences of my life. Terrible Movers (who F*cked up my furniture), and in the end it cost me an arm and a leg for what should have been an easy move. Overall, I was very pleased with TDY. They were on time, friendly, and worked quickly. They were a bit rougher with my belongings than I would've liked them to be, but in the end the few scratches and dings were minor compared to some of the horror stories I heard/read. My only real complaint is that I wish they would've taken more care with my mattress. They only covered half of it, so the other half was dirty by the time they delivered it. I moved with them and am definitely NOT happy! Do yourself a favor and find some other movers. Some of the things that happened: 1 - The guy on the phone who sold me the contract, told me on the phone that assembly and disassembly of furniture is of course included and that they do that all the time. What was I stupid to not get that in writing. The first thing the guys said when they came in the apartment was that they will not disassemble and assemble anything. 2 - The first quote I got was for ~1000$, I then got an updated quote for ~1200$ and at the end paid about ~1400$ + tip! And it was definitely not worth it. 3 - They heavily damaged my bed. It has now scratches and the headboard is broken. I can understand that these things can happen, but at least be that honest and tell me immediately and not admit after I found it. 4 - They "lost" a very expensive lamp. After I called them they first tried anything to blame it on me. "Oh, did you unpack all your boxes" - "It was not in a box, it's too big for a box and I searched 2 hours for it, in the old and in the new apartment" "Oh, but it's not in the truck anymore" - "Yes, fine, but if it's not in the old apartment and not in the new one, and not in the truck, where did it go?" Instead of giving an answer the guy hung up! I am super disappointed and the behavior feels very dishonest! I have now damages of about 5000$ and the best thing is, they don't even handle their claims themselves, so I now have to go through some 3rd party moving company claim handler to at least get some compensation... read more

I just used TDY for a one bedroom move within Manhattan. Experience with everyone from the person that evaluated my apartment prior to packing and the move, the person in the office that handled the insurance certificates, and the three movers was positive. The movers showed up on time and worked non-stop and handled all of my belongings and furniture with care. The quote was a fair price based on the other quotes I've received (I did a flat rate move). They lost one star because when the movers showed up there was small difference between the items on the quote and actual items - I should have checked the quote better because the person that evaluated the apartment left out some items. Also, the initial insurance certificate was wrong but that was resolved quickly. Overall, a good experience. read more

Mike and his crew arrived at the small, cramped studio where we were knee deep in boxes, clothes, books, kitchen supplies, etc.--we were not quite ready. Instead of leaving us to fend for ourselves Mike, helped to organize and pack us up. Update: I got a call from someone from TDY shortly after I posted my original review. He wanted to discuss all the issues I had during my move and reassure me that this is not the norm for their company. I agree that my experience was unusual and other people I know have had great experiences with TDY (which was the reason I was surprised in the first place!). I was also impressed that they care so much about the reputation of their company and try to make the rare bad experience a little better. They ended up refunding me for the cost of the ticket and an hour of the move which was very appreciated!! As I posted originally, everyone I've interacted with at TDY moving has been very nice and professional and I really do think that most of their moves go off without a hitch. I also think that a company that takes pride in their reputation and customer service as much as this one does is rare and I value that attitude! I had originally given this company 2 stars but bumped it to 4 given their attitude about customer service and the fact that they did refund me for part of my move. Original: I would have given this company 1 star but the actual movers were extremely hard-working and nice so I added a star for them. Here are all the things that went wrong in my moving experience. - my bill ended up being double my estimate (due to the fact that moving took twice as long as expected even though they had all the facts when doing the estimate) - there probably should have been 3 movers assigned to my job but only 2 were. This made the move take longer and also caused the movers to do a crazy amount of work. - Although my roommate and I offered to sit in the truck so that it wouldn't get ticketed, my movers said we shouldn't and...their truck ended up getting ticketed, adding more than $100 to my move. - I noticed the night of my move that 2 boxes had not been unpacked. I called and they found the boxes on the truck and offered to deliver them the next morning. However, I needed the boxes for an event I had early the next morning so I ended up driving to the warehouse (which was its own ordeal) to get my boxes. - about a week after my move, I noticed another box was missing. I called and they found the box but did not deliver it until a few weeks after my move, after I called several times. So overall, it cost more than double what I was expecting and 3 boxes were left on the truck. I only got those boxes back because I called multiple times. This company was recommended by a friend and I saw that they have overall great reviews so my experience may be a fluke. Also everyone I met was very nice and professional. However, I would not recommend this company and would not use them again. read more

I filed the claim for over $2000 of damage and after 3 months they send a letter saying they will pay $57. Now I need to contact a lawyer and take these thieves to court! I found this moving company using Unpackt.com (which is essentially expedia, but for moving companies- I highly recommend you start there when looking for movers). TDY was quick to respond via email and a phone call, which I like. They were not pushy when calling, but wanted to know more about the move so that they could quote us the best price! We took a full inventory of everything we have, dressers, boxes, tvs, etc. and also included information about the units we moving out of and into! Once they had all of the information they sent us a quote, and after comparing many moving companies, we decided to use TDY. The quote is per man hour and they list the number of movers you will have. We scheduled a 9am start time, and unfortunately due to traffic the movers did not get there until about 10, but called to let us know they were running late, no big deal! The movers were all friendly, quick, and efficient. The move seemed like it was going so fast! When moving us in to our new apartment, they put everything exactly where we asked them too. They were great to work with. The only reason that I am not giving them 5 stars is because i felt like they should have been more transparent on the quote and what you are getting. When the head mover was adding everything up, it felt like he was just throwing out numbers, $20 here, $15 for this, etc, which added another $100. When I read my quote I assumed everything was included, but it was not, there was fine print that said wrapping anything besides the TVs would be extra. They should be a little more transparent when it comes to what is included in the charge per hour. One of the main reasons we picked this company was because we thought we were getting the best deal, but it looks like we only thought that because the other companies had listed these additional in their quotes. So, yes, I would recommend them to others, friendly, fast, courteous service, but only if money is not a huge matter. Make sure you go through your quote with a fine-toothed comb and know exactly what you are getting. read more

I wish I could give no stars. Doing a long distance move from NYC to Orlando, FL with TDY was without a doubt one of the worst experiences of my life. The on-site estimate and pick up were fine, but the problems started about 2 weeks later when I still hadn't received my furniture. I called to find out the status and was informed that my shipment had been loaded onto the truck, but it had not left New York yet. Although frustrated that I was still without furniture, the contract stated it could take up to 21 days for delivery which I was fine with. I was again assured that I would receive a phone call from the driver 24 hours before they were in my area to confirm delivery. On day 17 after my furniture was picked up, I received a call around 11 PM (yup, PM) from the driver telling me that he would be there with my delivery at 8 AM.... Not exactly 24 hours notice, and it was absolutely not going to work with my schedule or the rules of my condominium complex. I explained that I wasn't available at that time and that my building required 24 hours notice for an elevator reservation. I requested a delivery time for later in the day and was told that was not possible. Apparently I was the only delivery in the Orlando area that day and was told I could wait until the following WEEK (because he was spending 5 days in Miami after his delivery there) when the truck was headed back north. I wasn't happy with that solution so after about 10 minutes of very unproductive "conversation" (essentially him saying, "I don't know" mixed in with some yelling) the driver told me that he was leaving Orlando, heading to Tampa, and "would see" if he could come back the following evening. I attempted to confirm the time 7 PM, but could not get a straight answer from him. Regardless, I reserved the elevator for the following day and decided to call back to confirm the time in the morning. I finally received a call back around 5:30 PM saying that they were headed back to Orlando for my 7 pm delivery. Well 7 pm came and went and at about 8:30 PM I received a call from the driver saying, "I'm here, come outside. There's no room for my truck". I found this very odd because my building shares a loading dock entrance with a large grocery store that receives deliveries from tractor trailers on a daily basis. I also confirmed with my building management that a 53' trailer would fit prior to delivery. When I walked outside, he was parked across the street from the building and yelled to me to come over to the truck. He never got out of the truck to speak to me. In fact, he never even turned off the engine! So basically, I was standing in the middle of the street, barely able to hear him over the engine of the truck, trying to come up with a solution. I was again told that I would have to wait until he returned from Miami the following week for my delivery and that I would also have to pay for the rental of a smaller truck. I was aware that the contract stated that there were additional fees if there was no room for the delivery truck, but I did not feel that waiting until the next week was an acceptable alternative. I was also extremely frustrated that the driver refused to even make an attempt to see if the truck would fit in the loading dock. Both the maintenance person and security guard on duty at my building that night told me they have never seen a truck unable to fit. I completely refused to accept going another 5 days without my furniture, so I asked what my other options were. After some more very unproductive "conversation" he called the owner of the company, Ed. The driver handed me the phone and when I began to tell Ed how unprofessional his driver had been, the driver got out of his truck (finally!), took the phone from me, and said he'd carry my things in from the street if I gave him $150 cash. I agreed (that was money I planned on giving as a tip anyways) and my stuff was unloaded and brought up to my apartment. I thought the drama was finally over until they left and I started to put sheets on my bed. The bed has drawers on the bottom and flat boards on top that are (supposed to be) screwed into the frame. When I put the sheets on I realized that the boards were sliding all over the place. They were not screwed in! Worst of all, when I looked around the room for the screws (which I saw him unpack) they were no where to be found. I'm almost certain he took them thinking that I would never know he didn't complete putting the bed together! I also realized after the fact that my receipt did not have the $150 "long distance carrying fee" that I paid. All in all, I paid a lot of money for the ease of having a moving company take care of the manual labor and ended up with an extremely stressful experience. I will probably NEVER use any moving company again after this experience and will definitely never recommend TDY to anyone. read more

Great move experience. We needed a queen size bed removed and stored for a few days and returned. TDY was terrific. Guys are super friendly and very professional. They took care of the bed. And my apt during the move out and in. Plus their rates are reasonable. Thank you ! read more
