Overall very good place. Only been here a handful of times but I will be returning. Food can be a little on the greasy side but can be overlooked by flavor. Service is always good and efficient. Gross! First off I found a hair in my chowmein! I barely tried this placed 1week ago based on the reviews and it was a WASTE of money! The cheese wontons were frozen in the middle, the honey walnut shrimp was so doughy that I had to remove the layers just to eat the shrimp and they really have the audacity to only give you 2pieces of chicken in the rice and chowmein. On top of that the bathroom was freshly mopped with NO caution signs around! The whole restaurant was just an overall disgust... I was hoping the food would of made up for the horrible decor. It has good food, good portion size (get a to go box) and the staff is much nicer than most places I used to go in Chinatown. This is not the most elegant food, but I am a real fan of this place. Tea Cup is my favorite Chinese restaurant! I have been coming here ever since I was a little kid. The waitresses recognize us and always come to catch up. It changed owners several times, and the chefs have changed at times. Right now though I think the food is better than it's ever been. Almost every dish from the menu is delicious and is such a deal compared to other Chinese restaurants. I'm trying to think of a favorite dish, but I can't decide! They are all so good! Honey flavored pepper pork chop is on my top list. The only one that seems to fluctuate at time to time is the green bean beef. Depending on the freshness of the beans and who cooks them, it could come out not as good as I like. Other than that, the food is always consistent. I always leave full and satisfied! What I also like is that it's not that crowded during dinner. For me it's a good thing, but for them I know it's not. But I always know that there's never a wait! This place has GREAT lunch specials. I got a giant plate of food - pork fried rice, walnut coconut sauce fried shrimp, chicken, chow mein and hot n sour soup for $6! Its so great. The soup and the shrimp were especially delicious, very rich and authentic tasting. The pork fried rice is also super snazzy, very aromatic. The chow mein was only average, not quite as bad as chinese fast food but closer to that end than the rest of the meal. In my opinion the rest of the food and the low price made up for it. Service is so so depending on how busy they are, but I was never late coming back from my lunch break. Also they have free wifi which I like :) As far as atmosphere, this place is pretty much what you'd expect from a place specializing in dim sum. Your standard round white table-clothed tables in an unassuming, mostly undecorated medium sized room. There are usually a lot of servers bustling about. I think a good sign about this place is that the predominant language, even amongst the customers, seems to be Chinese. I haven't tried anything else on their actual menu so I can't speak for that, but if you are on a lunch break and want something to take home after you've stuffed yourself, and all for $6, this is a good place to go. read more

I've been coming to this place for years now and it's one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I highly August getting one of four dinner choices if you have more than one person. These choices are reasonably price with lots of food. This place is awesome. It was my first time trying dim sum, but my husband basically grew up with the stuff in OC. He says its the best dim sum ever too. (We didn't try the other food, but if it's anything like the dim sum it is hot, fresh, and delicious.) We had the sweet egg cream buns (steamed), BBQ Pork Buns (baked), the har gow, shrimp bonnets, and took some sesame balls to go. Everything was delicious. The sweet and sour is a little lame, but add a touch of soy sauce and it's perfect. Nice and clean, though I wish they would turn off the TV (it's always so distracting). The only, and I mean only minor detail that keeps me from going here every day is that it is in midtown, which makes it a little tough to drive to if you are not used to city streets (one-way). One of the better Chinese restaurants here in Sacramento. I've only tried two others but they weren't very good at all. I gave 4 stars because I didn't enjoy their hot and sour soup. But the general chicken, sweet and sour pork, and honey walnut shrimp are great choices. I also loved their pot stickers. I appreciate this place because I've walked in several other Chinese restaurants and buffets and promptly walked out because it looked gross, but this place has a nice atmosphere and also looks clean. Every time I step into this establishment the waitress becomes more, and more unfriendly. I give no complications to my order, and act in a polite manner. On my previous adventure I'd ordered black bean chicken. No chicken was present within my dish, only onions, and black bean sauce. The food was good, good size meat portions, but I feel the rice and chow mein could've been more generous. Also, I requested no pork in the fried rice and they told me they could do chicken fried rice, so I was very happy about that. While eating my rice I noticed that there was pork in it. Probably my favorite dim sum place in Sacramento. They serve dim sum at any time which is a great plus. We had more food than we could eat and the bill came out less than expected. This was the most disappointing meal I've had in a long time. The menu doesn't explain the dishes well and the pictures are very misleading. Nothing I ordered looked like the pictures, and I'm not talking presentation wasn't the same, I'm talking completely different ingredients. The menu made the braised tofu seem like it would be a plate of tofu in sauce. What I received was a bowl of tofu covered in vegetables, more vegetables than tofu. It was also very, very bland. Sesame balls are one of my favorite Chinese treats. The ones here were odd. They were served cut open, in haves, and lacked flavor; they seemed to have been baked instead of fried. Had an assortment of dim sum there and found the service to be decent, but the quality to be lacking. The shrimp dumpling portions where small. The pork in their xui long bow tastes old. The shrimp balls were soggy and lack flavor. The chicken and BBQ pork buns were good, just not good enough to save the experience. I will not be going back since I do know how to recognize good Chinese food and have a desire not to get sick. New Canton is better if you are looking for an alternative in town, but the Bay Area is where you should search for good Dim sum. Koi Palace in Daly City is one of the best. read more

Just got an order delivered tonight. They are quick but the delivery service was terrible. The guy rang my doorbell and before I could get to my gate he rand again and started to call. I got downstairs and singed for my receipt but before he handed me the food he very rudely said "its says that you put cash tip instead of paying online, so?" I mean it wasn't like I was going to stiff the guy but to basically demand it is very rude. Not ordering from here again. Also the food was pretty bland and basically had no spice. This is a great little place, just went for the first time. Lots of menu options, huge portions, not overpriced, and pretty authentic flavors. The dim sum menu seems to be available all day if you ask for it. After giving this place a second chance, we've decided not to eat here anymore. I found their food decent, (other than the hair found in our food), the 1 star is for their woefully inadequate service. This time, I had to go find the waitress four times during the course of the meal, in order to ask for basic things. When she brought water, we asked for straws, 20 minutes later, she still had not brought them out. Had to go back again to ask for refills on water, and then again to ask for the check. Then i had to go find her again to pay and get a box for leftovers. People from the other tables were also commenting on how this was the worst service they had ever experienced. I saw several people from different tables having to go search for the waitress. There were only 3 or 4 tables of people at the restaurant, so the issue was not that there was too much going on. If we hadn't found the hair in our food we might have ordered deliver or takeout from them, but their service is awful. read more

I ordered takeout from the Yelp app and the approximate wait time was 45 minutes. The service was very quick and I received the food at my door step in less than 30 minutes. The minimum is $22 for free delivery. I ordered orange chicken, shrimp chow mein, a side of rice and egg rolls totaling exactly $22, very reasonably priced. I was leery about ordering such cheap Chinese food but was pleasantly surprised. The portion sizes were HUGE and very good for the price. Great value for a night in. There's only one reason to come to Tea Cup, and that is for Dim Sum. It's pretty decent, and they give you a lot of it. If It served nothing but Dim Sum this would be a 4.5 star rating. But if I were rating their regular menu it would be 1 star. It isn't that the food tastes bad, but that it has almost no taste at all. Almost no seasoning. I ordered Cashew Shrimp. I had to add soy sauce, because without it, there was a vaguely shrimpy taste. Very few cashews. I had leftovers (again, very generous portions) tonight. I was hoping a day in the fridge would bring out the flavors, but I had to add salt; I have NEVER had to salt Chinese food before, and I've been eating it since I was a kid. The presentation was nice, though, very colorful. I've eaten from the regular menu before, and those dishes were similarly bland. The dishes were never bad, they simply have little taste. DO NOT trust these people! I order about $41.00 dollars of Chinese delivery from their menu. When the driver showed up, he kept trying to convince me that I owed him a cash gratuity and that a tip was mandatory. He did this even before letting me sign the sales receipt since I used my bank card. First off, this is just Chinese take out people, and no where is it printed on their menus that gratuity is expected for delivery. Secondly, I am just one person, when gratuities are mandatory at the finer restaurants that usually is table service involving 4 or more people. Thirdly, this restaurant expressly indicated FREE delivery within a certain mile radius. For which I fall under. Fourthly, this is the FIRST time I ever purchased from this restaurant and on delivery, which I practically never tip on the first delivery order from a new place, unless the driver seems very pleasant, or at a sit down dinner unless the food and the service are good or exceptionally good. Fifthly, this is the most important; the delivery man then told me, in his own words, that IT IS THE LAW, that I OWED him a tip, and that I had to tip him because it was by LAW. There is no state, county or city law here in Sacramento or under the civil or penal code , that compels a customer to force a tip from you, regardless of the quality of the food and service. I usually am generous when it comes to tipping when the food and service deserves it, but not to be hustled and my pockets picked.
