I ordered the walnut shrimp lunch special to go. It cost only around $7.00. It was plenty of food. I was very happy with my choice and would order again from. They don't give much walnuts with the shrimp (3 walnuts.) I was still happy with the dish. The ladies there were nice and I love the convenience of ordering online. I love this place. Seriously. Really really good food, both dim sum-wise and regular dishes, and amazing prices. When I worked around the corner, my co worker and I would come and split the lunch special and get some dim sum as well. We would leave STUFFED for under $20! A nice touch at lunch is that they'll sometimes give you a free mini-appetizer, like fried wonton crispy things or a bowl of soup, as soon as you sit down. I love all of their dim sum. My boyfriend and I went to Tea Cup House for the first time today and were really impressed with how clean it is inside compared to other Asian places and how the service is pretty decent for what you get. Any who we got the perking dinner for two , and we got jasmine tea for free i guess thats a standard here which is awesome most places you have to pay extra money to get tea. As we sip on our tea the soup comes and man that thing can feed up to five people! Then the appetizers arrive and they are also huge portions we were already getting to the point of complete satisfaction lol then the main entree came and it was delicious ! Placed a to go order tonight, 25 mins before closing. The YELP online order was very simple to use. We ordered Chicken Fried Rice & Beef & Veggie Pan Fried Noodles. It came out to only $13.51. We left right after we placed the order to pick it up. We live 6 blocks away and by the time we got there, food was ready for pick up. We were greeted by a friendly lady. She handed us our food and we were on our way. The boxes were so heavy! Felt like 2lbs of food. The food isn't like amazing Chinese food or anything but I have nothing bad to say either. It's your typical Chinese food and for the price you pay and the portions they give you, it'll definitely be our go to choice for take out. I grew up and lived for many years in San Francisco, enjoying the varieties of Chinese cuisine, including Dim Sum. Tea Cup Cafe compares favorably to the best in SF. Service is efficient and friendly. The chef/owner trained in Hong Kong, and you can taste it. The consistency of preparation is a treat, because I know what to expect and I get it, every time. I come here every now and then when I have a craving for dim sum. The parking is a bit aggravating, only a few spaces available , other option is to pay the street meters. Then again it is downtown. The dining room is fairly big and can accommodate large family's or groups. I like the round tables they're equip with lazy Suzan's. Every time I've been here there hasn't been much of a crowd, which means fast service. I usually opt for dim sum , or even the lunch combinations are a good deal. Lunch specials run from 10:30- 2:30 and usually have a large helping of chow mein , rice, and two entrees and soup of the day. They're reasonably priced at around $6-$7. The reason I am giving 2 stars is because this place even though has fast service and good prices tends to be a hit or miss. Sometimes my food is fresh while other times it's quite obvious I'm eating yesterday's food. I prefer to pay high prices and get fresh made to order food. But sometimes I just don't have a lot of time and I stop here to get something on the go. I've had worse scenarios (you can read my review for TK Noodles) . We went because my wife had heard good things about their dim sum. We went at dinner and my suggestion was the Hong Kong Dinner. We did not really enjoy our food. Not Tea Cup's fault, but the yuppies at the next table were serenading their baby. Unacceptable! What is Tea Cup's fault is the somewhat questionable food. You know how YOU think it should taste (how it tasted from your local chinese joint growing up), and you expect that it should taste the same every time you visit. There are two types of people in the world, those that love Chinese and those that would never request it, but will eat it if offered. Tea cup cafe has converted a few of the latter since I've introduced my friends to their restaurant. This food tastes exactly as it should. Every time. It is consistently tasty, and fresh, offering choices that you might never see at another spot in town. I used to come here every now and then because I lived close by, but since I moved, I haven't felt up to walking 8 blocks instead of two to pick up food here. I've tried a few items on their menu like Singapore noodles, beef chow fun, cod with black bean sauce, fried calamari and most of their dim sum items. Their food tends to be on the bland side, it's fine and it's cheap. I'd come back if I was walking by and had a hankering for Chinese, but otherwise I would probably just make a trip to New Station, New Hong Kong Wok, New Canton (starting to notice a trend with the names), which all have better food but cost maybe a little more. Midtown is sadly lacking in authentic, good Chinese food. This, Capital Tea, and Gam Lei Sig are probably the closest you will get. But there are better places out there just outside of the grid. read more

We had previously gotten take out a year or so ago, and weren't happy with it. We ate at the restaurant a couple of weeks ago, and were pleasantly surprised. The food was really good, and the service was decent. We ordered way to much, and left way too stuffed because everything was so good. The only complaint with the meal was the potstickers were a bit doughy. Dim sum was delicious and the price for it? REALLY cheap for Sacramento. I'm saying for Sacramento because in LA, you can get Dim Sum for $1.50 per item... Oh the good old days... My first introduction to walnut shrimp was here at Tea Cup House. The place is right near where I work, and it was on special. I'll give it a try, I thought. Now I'm obsessed with the thought of their honey walnut shrimp. Not wanting to go all the way down there every time I had a hankering, I tried going to this place or that, often at a buffet, and hoping I would get the same lovely walnut shrimp. Alas, no. Buffets are good for filling you up, but not good for scratching an itch. So I broke down and drove down there, out of my way, last week. The shrimp maybe weren't as good as I'd built up in my imagination, but we got two orders and scarfed down every bite in short order. I've only eaten take-out, but the service for that is pretty fast. We also got fried shrimp dumplings, but I didn't like them as much. They reminded me too much of a fried pastry or something; the crust was too thick and fried and there were only three. I love regular potstickers though, which I got the first time I went here. They're good, more plentiful and cheap. They also have an interesting flavor or spice to them. I wish I knew what it was. I'd really like to go 3.5 stars, but I can't quite say why. So 4 stars it is, for that lovely walnut shrimp you've made me addicted to. I might possibly be spoiled for life. read more

Staple Sacramento restaurant. I don't know how long Tea Cup House has occupied this location on 21st Street, but it seems like forever. 3 and half stars, and I will return because Megan loves this place. I really recommend the Combo meals, you can't go wrong for $8 a plate despite some weird things. It comes with tea, soup, 2 entrees, rice or chicken chow mein and 1 egg roll. They are very flexible with swapping things too. This visit we got Hot and Sour Soup which was very tasty and hot=spicy. The Egg Roll was delicious and had plenty of exotic mushrooms and seasonings (I think the menu said it was filled with pork but I didn't notice any). The Chow Mein was yummy, just mostly noodles though. I chose the combination of Orange Chicken and Walnut Shrimp. Both were deep-fried chunks of meat, nice size, full, medium shrimp, no vegetables, no walnuts, but still delicious. My shrimp wasn't cooked all the way. I told my server who told me it was supposed to be that way. Even at sushi restaurants the shrimp tempura is cooked all the way through! Overall a clean restaurant, quick service and lots of choices. I've been to many dim sum restaurants and I must say that this place isn't bad at all. I usually have dim sum in south sacramento and come here with family occasionally. Their dim sum selection is pretty limited because they make it fresh when you order. It's a fairly small restaurant compared to other dim sum restaurants. So instead of having carts pushed around with food - you are handed a sheet that allows you to choose your dim sum. Tea Cup has the cheapest, authentic, and tasty Chinese food in all of Midtown/Downtown Sac. The weekday lunch/dinner specials are $5, and there's a huge selection. Do yourself a favor and forego the lunch special menu with the individual dishes and instead orger off the $5 menu and eat family style. They recently started serving dim sum (if you don't know what it is, try New Canton) too on weekends but it's par at best. However, you should know what you're getting yourself into. It's a community restuarant that's really low-key and don't expect the same type of service you would expect at an American-food establishment. In Chinese culture, the patrons are pretty agressive and at Tea Cup, you'll have to do the same sometimes. Every time I've had to resort to this, the wait staff have been very friendly and helpful. In terms of food, the sauces are sometimes too thick and overwhelming. I really enjoy all the deep fried stuff like the "baked" pork chops, calamari, and peking spare ribs. I am also a fan of the eggplant and gai lan (off the regular menu). The flavors are pretty spot on. read more

This place have some cheap place to get some Chinese food. However, if you are looking for quality food, then this is not the place. I ordered a curry chicken over rice. Judging by the way it was presented to me, it "looked" decent. But a closer look will tell you something is off. The curry is not as thick as it suppose to be, so you can tell not enough curry powder was used. I was correct, tasted like we were eating rice with frozen chicken fillet covered in sauce. Can't taste the curry-ness, just tasted like sauce. My friends ordered a roast duck won ton noodle soup. The roast duck was either all bones or fat with skin. The soup is the foundation of all noodle soup, but they were not able to maintain the foundation so 70% of the taste is out the window. The soup tasted like warm water with no flavoring at all.
