The "Meh. I've experienced better." for this 2 star review is very accurate to how if felt after finishing my meal. I got fried rice with chicken. I asked to see if it was made with gluten-free ingredients and they said they could make it gluten-free. I found it was an up-charge for a gluten-free soy sauce which I don't mind but out was never mentioned on the menu nor did they communicate to me that it was for an additional dollar. On top of that, the chicken was awful. It had absolutely no flavor. It was like they cooked the rice and had boiled pieces of chicken and just threw them in there at the end. The chicken was very spongy and mushy; I was not impressed at all. However, the rice was flavorful and nice but it just didn't make up for the quality of the chicken. My friends enjoyed their food, so I guess this place is a hit or miss when it comes to your entrées. read more

Tea House was extremely accommodating for our large group. We called three times to add to and confirm our reservation. Upon entering, the buffet looked a little disappointing for how many of us there were. I was hoping they would be filling the buffet, but it never really happened. Luckily, we all decided to order from the menu and do family style. Holy buckets, some of those dishes were so huge! We definitely over ordered because each family had three or four boxes to bring home. Our Littles loves loved loved the lo mein noodles totally plain. My hubby was thrilled with his beef plate and I had the orange chicken. Overall, we were completely happy with our experience even if it wasn't the buffet liked we were hoping. One other reviewer mentioned the food was one dimensional and they are correct! The cream cheese wontons were so stuffed with cheese it was still cold inside and the sweet and sour dipping sauce was flavorless and too thin! The potstickers were also flavorless with flavorless dipping sauce! I walked around looking at what others had ordered and my initial thought was that most items looked dry! One of the best things about Chinese food is the sauce or gravy you can coat your rice with as part of any dish, but my Sizzling beef seemed to have only a few drops of oil and no flavor at all! This is the BEST Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. This is my first Yelp review because I need everyone to know how amazing this place is. The house beef noodle soup is incredible. We were doing business in this area today and decided to give this place a try for dinner. The ratings weren't stellar, but some of the pictures looked appetizing so we took a chance. We ordered hot sour soup and a couple of entrees to share. We decided on Hunan Chicken and Dry Fried Hot Spicy Chicken. When we ordered, we made it very clear that we wanted it very spicy, as in 5 stars on a 1- 5 scale. We come from the Seattle area which is on the Pacific Rim with thousands of wonderful Asian restaurants to choose from. We're used to getting spicy when we asked for spicy. The hot and sour soup came 1st. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate it a 6. It tasted sort of metallic in not very fresh. It was edible, but not very tasty and it certainly wasn't very hot from a spicy standpoint. Then our main course was delivered, it presented well, but... The dry fried hot spicy chicken didn't look like the Dry Fried Hot Spicy Chicken that we've had at other West Coast Chinese restaurants. It appeared moist and squishy, not crispy at all, In fact, it tasted more or less like teriyaki chicken that has been marinated in teriyaki sauce marinate overnight. The Hunan chicken had good vegetables in it, but the chicken tasted just like their Dry Fried Chicken, probably is from the same marinate batch. And neither of these dishes were spicy, just salty. I would say possibly a 2, on a 1- 5 scale of spiciness, even though we asked for a 5 plus. All in all, it was a disappointing meal given the $13 per entree price and the $40 total ticket for just 2 entrees and soup no drinks. I would have expected better quality for this price. We were somewhat deceived by their self-promotion on their website for this local chain, given the fact that they received accolades from the local TV station and newspaper. Heard many good things about this restaurant. However I wasn't really impressed. Walking pass other peoples meals, everything looked good. I don't eat beef, pork or seafood so let me tell you about the chicken... We ordered: Cream Cheese Wontons (2 orders, I think you get 5 an order) Pan Fried Chicken Potstickers Chicken Fried Rice Sesame Chicken Veggie Egg rolls The Cream cheese wontons were very crispy/fried hard. When you bite into them the cream cheese kind of crumbled out, which made me feel like they weren't very fresh or were way over cooked. Pan Fried Chicken Potstickers... Pretty much stayed on the plate. Not much flavor. Chicken Fried Rice, when first placed on the table it looked like it was full of eggs, large pieces of eggs. It was actually a mix of eggs and chicken, they looked identical. Wasn't a fan. Sesame chicken wasn't bad. Sauce on the chicken was decent. Supposed to come with white rice but because we ordered chicken fried rice it was assumed that we didn't want the white rice, we had to ask for it when our food came. The white rice combo with the sesame chicken was good. The veggie egg rolls were super slimy in the inside. Also stayed on the plate. Tasted like they were frozen. All I kind of tasted was super slimy cabbage even looking into it after the first bite I couldn't really tell what else (veggie wise) they but into it. It's a really nice restaurant, they have a lunch buffet set up. Pretty nice size dining room. Total came out to around $50.. Probably normal. Nothing against the restaurant and this doesn't reflect my rating but the man at the next table over blew his nose at the table and placed the napkin on his plate.. and it grossed me out so much. This place is sort of two restaurants. One is a basic strip mall Chinese place with a lunch buffet and some Szechuan items. The second is a very authentic Szechuan place with off the menu items that will likely be things that you don't see around here very often. I am a big fan of the twice cooked pork but have pretty much liked everything that I have had here. Our last trip we shared dumplings (steamed or fried), I had the twice cooked pork and my wife had the King Pao style chicken that has a fairly aggressive but tasty sauce. Go here. Be brave. I used to be a regular for lunch when I worked nearby, but since their reopening I have tried it several times for dinner or takeout and it's just not as good as it used to be. Our takeout last night was oily and mushy and much of it all tasted the same. Two highlights though: I thought the steamed buns were well done and the fried shrimp for honey walnut shrimp was well done (and glad they put the sauce on the side). The Tea house was sold a few years ago. Before it was sold it was the most fantastic place to go for Asian food. Once the sale was done there was a noticeable decline. Both in food and management. I have been here multiple times for the buffets and I definitely preferred the weekend to the weekday options. On the weekend, Tea House offers more authentic Chinese food. A few of my favorites were the wonton in chili oil, stir-fried green beans, and spicy pork stomach salad. The wonton in chili oil was super garlicky and mildly spiced, but the chili oil sauce was slightly sweeter than most wontons that I have had. If you like spicy food, the pork stomach salad is the dish for you. It had a good spicy kick, as well as numbing sensation from the plethora of Szechuan peppercorn. Hot soy milk was also provided as part of the buffet, which was a perfect beverage to complement the greasy meal. read more

Had been to the other two Tea House locations (the UofM one and the St Paul one). This Tea house is far inferior to the other two. Not authentic Chinese food at all. I would say it's at Panda Express level. We ordered the pork rib and it was not even fully cooked and covered with way too much sauce. The beef noodle had almost no flavor in it. Well, if you a big fan of Americanized Chinese food (ie orange chicken), give this place a try but for sure you are overpaying for the food. My mother in law and I arrived about 12:30 pm. We skipped the buffet--it was really picked over by then--and ordered off the menu. We ordered moo shu pork. It was good but came with mediocre, mass-produced pancakes that are ubiquitous at Chinese restaurants these days--they're like super thin wheat tortillas that dry out and crack, making for a messy meal. On the plus side, this Tea House has the best Sichuan green beans I've eaten in a long time! We also got soup dumplings. It was a big portion, the skins were thin, and the filling tasty. I love authentic Szechuan food and have had pretty good luck at the University location. In Plymouth, the plates were slightly dirty and they tried serving us raw spicy dumplings. Service is very inattentive and it took us 10 min to flag our server and the only way we finally got her attention was by standing and following her around. Eck! We had no idea the Tea House was tucked back in this shopping center until we drove by one day. We decided to check it out and were pretty pleased. We had the pork soup dumplings, which were decent but on the small side. We also got the Tiger Pork, which was absolutely killer -- it's kind of deep fried thin slices of pork. Really delicious. And we got the shrimp and asparagus, which was also very tasty. In all, better than I expected. The service was OK but a little inattentive. We'll have to see if this is a chronic issue or was a one-time blip. But it's nice to have an option for decent Asian food without driving into Minneapolis. We'll be back. read more

The Plymouth Tea House has been a regular stop for me before or after a show by virtue of conveniently sharing a parking lot with the Willow Creek cina-plex. I'm partial to the Chung King Spicy Chicken and rarely order anything else save for pot-stickers (pan fried dumplings). I like both the Crispy Cucumber Tossed in Chili Oil and the Spicy Bamboo Tips. Unfortunately, no matter how many others with whom I may be dining, I'm almost always the only fan. Since the portions are huge, too much for me to order as appetizers, I usually pass. I also like the Szechuan Green Beans which can be ordered spicy hot. Other fare is a solid assortment of familiar Chinese dishes. I also like the Jasmine Tea. When I read that Tea House does not serve "authentic" Chinese cuisine I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. Authentic to what region? Shandong? Hunan? Sichuan? Jiangsu? Must they banish Egg Foo Young, Fried Rice and Chow Mein? Should they feature Tripe in a Clay Pot, Live Monkey Brains and Yak Blood Cubes? C'mon. If you want to be a bit adventurous you can easily find something a little exotic, less "Americanized" or outside your comfort zone here. Just ask for suggestions if you wish. If you want conventional dishes competently prepared they can easily meet those needs as well. This place can on occasion be packed with long wait times for a table. Service has always seemed to be bordering on haphazard but is generally amiable. If you tell them that you have a specific curtain time to meet they will take that into account when handling your order. read more

Did you know that the menu here used to be in the same font that Disney uses in all their work? I think it's called Waltograph. That was back when the Tea House had two menus; one menu for people who like their pork sweet and sour, and the other menu for people who like their pork stomach. It was somewhat disquiting eating here--while you ate your egg fu young, the people next to you chattered in Mandarin and ate a whole fish covered in sauce. All that's changed, except there's still whole fish. The menus have been blended together and the font is less Mickey Mouse. I had the soup buns, the ma po tofu, and Szechuan green beans. Have you ever had soup buns? They're classic dim sum, a pork soup inside a steamed shell. Eating them is a bit of an art, because you have to bite and slurp all in one go. It's vampire practice. The food was very good, full of spice and flavor, and the restaurant is a classy place. Do come sometime for the lunch buffet, and pick up the menu while you're there. Firs Dim sum experience!! They are super packed for this event, they move fast but the line will get long since people seem to keep coming and coming. They do the cart style, so be on the look out for what you want. It can get a little crowded as most dim sum places do, so be patient and enjoy the experience. They have from what I remember enough different items to keep you excited for whats next. For rookies or experienced fans this is a nice spot to get your dumpling fix. There is a new creative menu that makes it clear that there is an inspired chef running this restaurant. . Everything, including the Tea-smoked Duck was superb. I LOVE this place for sit down meals!! The food is great and prices are reasonable for dinner. Large portions! I often have enough left over for the next day. The only drawback is they may need to cut down on the oil. If you have a heart sensitive diet, this may not be the best place unless you can request no oil. They also charge extra to share an already large pot of tea(one person is supposed to drink all that?) Other than that, I'm hooked! Was staying at a hotel nearby and was pleased to see Sichuan food available so close by. My food had ZERO mala. None. Not only that, it was bland and boring. The flavor profile of the Sichuan dishes I ordered were completely absent. Hands down the worst Sichuan food I've ever had. The abundance of Chinese restaurants in the Twin Cities can make choosing one a dauting task. It seems everyone or every family has their own special place they order their take-out or rush to on Sunday for dim sum. Tea House is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I think it blends the Americanized flavors we have come to love in this country with an authentic menu for those who want the real deal. I browsed both the Chinese and English menu here and was impressed by the variety of menu items. The last time I went, I had some rather Americanized dishes like lo mein, fried rice, and broccoli & beef. Everything was very tasty and the portion sizes were perfect (see photo). It's hard to compare Tea House to a lot of other places in the area, but I think the most comparable would have to be Little Szechuan on University. If you like Little Szechuan, I think you'd also enjoy Tea House. We have been eating at Tea House (Plymouth) for many years. It is the place we go most frequently, and we have introduced many many friends acquaintances and neighbors who enjoy spicy food. We've ordered just about everything on the Szechuan menu, and we've honed in on our top three favorites. House Spicy Fish is #1 and we always order that. It's plenty for two adults. But we often order the Kung Pao Chicken along with it. The fish is super tasty and loaded with hot spice and veggies in a delightful broth to serve over the rice. The Kung Pao is perfection. Garlic, peanuts and just the right amount of sweet and hot. Then our third favorite dish is Spicy Eggplant, which is so much more delicious than it sounds. Nice but old doc shop in a nice quiet neighborhood beside an apartment complex. The menu book is really old but the pictures look nice. Dishes are fine and we got another one on the list checked off. You walk into a buffet and you expect the trays to be full and filled with food but NO, not at this place around 1pm (buffet ends at 2pm) I observed and waited to see if they replenish. Nope! I found myself scraping the trays. I took a small break (30 minutes into eating) and the waitress brought me the bill. I said and looked at her "I am still eating". Meat (chicken, pork ribs) were very dry Veggies: salty and not blended well I gave 2 stars for my past 2 dining experiences. Normally, I come here on a weekend for lunch and ordered from the menu for beef noodle soup and pork dumplings. They were decent so I came back but save your money from the buffet. Always looking for a good chinese restaurant. Found this near one of our shopping locations. Started off with Won ton soup and Szechuan dumplings. My daughter polished off the won tons so they must be good. The dumplings were awesome with lots of garlic and a bit of kick. The red in the photo is likely some chili oil. Ordered chicken fried rice, cumin beef, and sesame chicken for our entrees. Chicken fried rice had good size and all white meat chicken. Sticky rice was nice and tender and appropriately sticky. The cumin beef was a great mix of cumin, chili flakes, and cilantro (not something would expect but gave it a nice flavor). The sesame chicken had a nice sweet sauce that wasnt watery like you get at other places. The chicken was all white meat and nice and crunchy. As for the staff, greeted promptly as we walked in the door, very attentive and politely answered questions about the menu. Overall a great place from this experience where not overly packed but also not empty as we've encountered with other places. A win for us as this reminds us of our favorite CO chinese restaurant and has taken us a bit over two years to find a place like this. We'll be back to sample more of the menu. read more

I've been here a few times over the years, and I have found the food to be really mediocre. I recently had the beef Lo Mein, the dish was quite greasy and hardly had any meat. The last couple of times I have eaten at this restaurant have been terrible. One time our table was completely forgotten and we sat there for nearly an hour before anyone even brought water. We flagged down waiters and they literally didn't do anything. Another time, Christmas Eve 2019, my boyfriend's mom made reservations a couple weeks in advance, and when we arrived they claimed we did not have a reservation. We ended up having to eat movie theatre popcorn for our Christmas Eve dinner. This recent experience (takeout on Christmas Day- idk why we still decided to give it a chance) really solidified the fact that this restaurant is terrible.... We ordered 12 steamed potstickers and every single one was filled with raw chicken. I took a bite and luckily spit it out without swallowing any, but and still a little nervous that I might get sick. The egg rolls were also completely cold and doughy. Really gross. Don't go here! Update: I called them to explain the situation of having completely raw potstickers and asked for a refund. They said it was impossible to give a refund to me. I could hear people fighting in the background. The three people I spoke to were incredibly rude and tried to explain to me that the chicken was NOT raw even though I have photos and that I was being rude for asking for a refund for uncooked food. So many 5 stars yet such average food. I was really revved up to try this place. I was doing takeout and wanted to try something new. Being in the burbs I know that my options are pretty slim but I pulled out the iPhone and used the "near by" option. Here was this Tea House place with all these raving reviews, sure thing has always been my experience. Well I ordered a bunch of items looking for the home-run dish. Two of them listed as the House dishes. The Triple Kung Pow was good. Not super spicy but had nice flavor and texture. I hate it when the items are all so finely diced it's like eating mush. The Lemon Chicken was terrible though. The chicken was pounded very thin and then overcooked making it dry and chewy. Even with the lemon sauce, which was more like a simple syrup than a sauce, it was beyond bad. The Lo Mien was good. Noodles were nice and tender but the fried rice was undercooked and not real tasty. Very average. As for the apps, Egg Roll's were very average and actually a little under cooked. They tasted doughy and bland. The Cream Cheese Won-tons were nothing special either, although to be fair it was a slow rush hour drive home and they were a little cold when I got home. Should have eaten them in the car and enjoyed them hot. Over all this was good but far from 5 stars for this guy. I'll try it again and maybe dine in. We'll see. KT read more

We have been to Tea House a couple of times. My friends and I like this place, very good Chinese cuisine. Today, the food and service was great! We were 4 of us and we had the minced pork fried rice, the A choy (the best!), the chung king chilly chicken, and the house spicy fish, which came with a side of rice. We were really hungry, the food was spot on and we left Tea house with a food coma. Tea house is tricky sometimes (one time it was utterly unimpressive) but its a reasonably priced restaurant tgat provides good portions. Recommend for group dinners! read more

This was a very standard Chinese restaurant. I got the chicken potstickers and the veggie rolls along with a hot tea. I was not a fan of the potstickers at all and would not recommend them. My parents and I came here on a cold weekend night after running some errands together. They had been to Tea House before and knew that it was a good spot for some nice Chinese staples. I was surprised that it seemed to empty, but it looks like they have a decent setup for buffets during the day, which other reviewers here have tried before. The service was pretty average for a slow winter evening, and we ordered the Szechuan-style green beans and a fried whole fish, but the name of the dish is escaping me. The green beans were quite good, and I liked how fresh the beans were and the amount of flavor that it had. You could definitely tell that it was freshly stir-fried! The dish had a nice amount of crunch. However, the fish was a little disappointing. The fish itself tasted fresh, but for some reason it came to us a little lukewarm and a bit soggy, like someone had made it and they forgot to deliver it or let it sit for a while. While the fish itself was no problem (no fishy taste!), the slightly soggy breading plus the colder temperature of the dish was nonideal. We asked our server to bring it back and warm it up, and then it seemed okay. I just wish I had gotten to taste the whole thing while it was hot, fresh, and crispy. If I were to get seafood here again, I would probably opt for something else. Maybe one of the boiled fish dishes? Overall, not a bad place to check out if you're in Plymouth and want to grab some quick Chinese food.
