You can choose to order from a kiosk or with one of the workers there, but if you choose to order from a kiosk they don't really interact with you besides calling for your drinks. I ordered the fluffy mango matcha with mango boba (which they only serve on the weekends) while my mom got the uji matcha latte! I ordered my usual, Green tea with Aloe Vera, 50% sugar. The green tea is very fragrant and aromatic - I really appreciate the taste of tea, unmasked from all the other flavours. The cashier told me they were recently renovated so I had to get an obligatory picture on their new sign - just wish the lighting was a bit better. I used to love this place and support them for the past 6 years. But I think yesterday was the last time I will drink at their place. I love their maru milk, it's literally almost the only thing I drink there. Everytime since the past 2 years, the drink are so unstable. There is one guy wears glasses working in there makes pretty good drink, and other time when there are new workers, the drink are pretty bad. Example yesterday I got 2 drinks, both are super bland. I got lactose free milk and it seems like they made for me oat milk or soy milk. But when I called, they said they don't have those milk options. Then I asked if their milk are spoiled cause the taste is pretty wrong. She said that's how it supposed to taste. I have been supporting this place even though it getting less busy for the past years, I know exactly how my drink should taste. Sadly to say, we both didn't drink our drink after the first 2 sips. Came here for the first time to try their boba. I ordered the strawberry fluffy matcha with oat milk. Not sure how it was fluffy but my boba was excellent! I loved that they had non dairy options, and my boba was nice, hot and fresh! San Gabriel is one of the lucky areas where you throw a rock, and you'll hit a boba place. Thankfully this is a good one! I have always liked this bubble tea shop. I like their combinations of drinks and slushes. I been coming here for a while now ever since a friend showed me this place ( 2/20/2019 ). I never really had an issue with the staff or place ( even tho waiting times were sometimes very long ) but something made me come back everytime till now, a couple months ago. I ordered the Roasted Oolong Tea with Mixed Boba and I've also tried the Okinawa tea with regular boba. Roasted oolong is probably my favorite kind of tea and it's not offered in every boba shop so I'm glad that they have it here. You can also adjust the amount of sweetness in most of your drinks as well as the ice level. I got my tea at 25% sugar and it was the perfect amount for me. It wasn't sweet, but it got most of the bitterness out of the tea that you often get from roasted oolong teas. The mixed boba was good, but I was not a fan of their regular brown sugar boba. They were hard and stale, so they were obviously undercooked and had been sitting out for a long time. It's a shame, because their mixed boba was a lot better. They were a lot chewier, and you could taste each flavor of the boba if you single them out. Glad they had the roasted oolong tea which is my fave and I really liked their mixed bobas. It was hard to find the shop because it's near an abandoned store. The Google location, for some reason, was not precise. Parking can be found in the streets, and there's plenty of space. I asked him twice if the order was correct because the menu board didn't show the thumbs-up signal. So this drink is not very popular. I ordered the large vintage Blend, Brown sugar boba, 25% sugar, less ice, and FREE oatmilk substitute! Do you know how happy I was to get alternative milk without paying extra?! The flavor was right, but the handmade brown sugar bobas were hard. Felt like it was old boba that was reheated too quickly. The aiyu jelly was spot on, but it was bigger than the straw, so I had to poke at it a couple of times to get it in the straw. The matcha flavored taste like syrup. There was no powder on the bottom of the cup, which tells me it might be syrup. The handmade mango boba however taste amazing! It was soft and chewy. Apparently, this boba was a local favorite! We know the taste might be off because we asked less sugar. Since both of us are diebetic. But the vintage milk tea tastes good to me. The tea was strong, and the milk mellow out the flavor. The matcha, however, was lacking flavor. Again, when we waited until the ice melted and realized there were no powder in the cup. So the matcha is probably syrup. My boyfriend said he'll give this place another try. We ended up paying about 4 bucks per order, and it's not a bad price to try something new. Plus the AC is soo good and there's tables for you to study. I forgot if they have wifi or not. If you guys want an affordable date. Give Groupon a try. We ordered the Okinawa tea, taro storm & jasmine oat milk tea. My friend thought the Okinawa tea was not nearly as strong as it it was supposed to be. The taro storm was good and better than when we had it at the other Maru location. The jasmine oat milk tea tasted better than the other Maru location as well but still not THAT great. Tea needed more floral jasmine aroma/flavor. The house made boba was very disappointing unfortunately. It was soft but slightly too soft. But it was so incredibly clumpy. So.many.clumps. It was hard to drink the teas almost the entire time because the boba clumps were constantly clogging the straw. We didn't have this issue at the other Maru location. Very odd. I recently had an unwelcome experience at a starbucks that closed 15 minutes early and I was a little traumatized from that, so when I spotted the open sign at Tea Maru 5 minutes before closing it was a great sense of relief. I walked in and confirmed with the guy taking out the trash that they were still open. There was even a group of people enjoying their drinks at a table when I walked in. The menu is pretty extensive. There is something for everyone. Tea Maru is kind of known for their home made boba. So I knew I had to try their mango boba (only available on the weekends). I got a Maru Milk with mixed boba and a Mango drink with mango boba. Both were so good. The Maru milk is just milk with black sugar which is a very traditional taiwanese drink with boba. It was just a little less exciting than the mango drink. The mango boba was perfectly squishy and mango-y. The drink tasted like they used real mangoes and not that power crap a lot of places use. I ordered through the ipad, so I didn't interact much with the staff, but they were fast and acknowledged me. I really appreciated that they didn't close early, too. I stopped going to it when I consistently get hard/old boba on all the drinks I ordered. As much I was still in denial, I was craving for it yesterday, so I stopped by. I ordered a Tea Maru latte (green tea) with strawberry boba. One of the employee was training another worker behind the counter. Once my drink was done, I noticed the color of my drink does not look like what I normally get. It was more of a faded tan color than a green-almost white drink. I told the employee it doesn't look right and he said oh we mixed it and I understand but even mixed I would know how it should look like. I went ahead and drank it and confirmed it doesn't taste like green tea (more of an oolong taste) and left with my unhappy drink. The strawberry boba doesn't have any seeds on them either now. One of the few times I get boba in my drinks is when I am at Tea Maru for their handcrafted boba, especially their mango (weekend only) and strawberry boba. Their boba balls are SO soft and chewy and complements their fruit forward drinks so well. The first time I tried Tea Maru it was a tad bit too sweet for me. But the subsequent times, I got the sugar ratio down that made my taste buds happy. I tried the strawberry slush and the mango jasmine tea on my most recent visit. It was really nice that the worker was able to accommodate putting the scoop of ice cream that comes with the slush in a separate container. My favorite between the two was the mango jasmine as I enjoyed the fragrant jasmine tea balanced with the sweetness of the mango purée. What Teamaru does that sets it apart from the rest is their handcrafted boba: when they say they have "strawberry boba" or "mango boba", they don't mean popping boba. I've been to Tea Maru twice now and had very different experiences. The first time, I really enjoyed my drink. I got the Grapefruit Fantasy with mixed boba. The tea was great and I really liked the variety of boba. The texture and sweetness were perfect. The only thing I didn't care for was the amount of seeds that were in the drink. It was kind of annoying to have to spit the seeds out every once in a while. The most recent time I decided to try their Maru Milk with brown sugar boba after seeing that it was a popular drink. I was unfortunately not impressed. The boba was too chewy for my taste and for some reason the drink tasted a lot like red bean. Even my boyfriend agreed. While I'll admit that Tea Maru has some unique options, especially when it comes to boba, it seems that their drinks can be a bit hit or miss. The staff aren't very friendly and even though there was no one else inside, they continued on with their conversation and didn't greet us. Their strawberry boba is sometimes a hit or miss, but I still would rather order it over regular boba. The Strawberry puree is soo good and pairs wonderfully with the light milky matcha notes. I did not realize this place just had a reopening. But, I was in the area and wanted a boba, so I found this place as it was walking distance to my lunch place. The ordering was pretty easy. You order at the kiosk and then they will call your order. In the instructions, they ask that you wait outside, but I was not sure how they would call you? omg, we just found a new boba place!! Last night, my family and I headed over to Tea Maru to try their boba. I had the Mango Jasmine Cheese Foam drink, and it was literally perfect. The creaminess, mango flavorings, jasmine green tea were all infused perfectly. One thing to note though is that the interior is a little underwhelming. There's hardly any seating, and quite frankly, it do be a little bland in there lol But let the flavors speak for themselves! You hold up the line this way, and that's a no for me. I have no complaints here. They make drinks quick, wait usually 2 minutes on average (weekday afternoon or nighttime). In & out. DRINKS I GET: -This heat makes me crave Dalgona matcha mixed w/ real fruit pieces (I liked mango, but the crushed mango portion at the base is on the sweeter side, so I shake n let that b$tch marinade--the milk & matcha layers above is not sweet so it balances it out, matcha tastes authentic, slightly bitter, frothy) --other flavors available: strawberry, taro -Maru milk + sweet potato boba (my other choice- if you like creamy milk & brown sugar flavors, hint of cheese foam at the top, 50-75% sweet) Prices on boba MTs starting to range on average $7/cup around here, it is what it is. I would think this goes in hand with customer's expectations as well. They pay more so they expect consistency & better quality all around.
