Creative drinks and great boba texture Stopped by Tea Maru and tried the mango matcha boba and taro boba. The mango matcha was refreshing and surprisingly well-balanced. The sweetness from the mango complemented the earthy matcha nicely, and the layers looked beautiful before mixing. The taro boba was creamy, smooth, and had a rich taro flavor without being overly sweet. The boba pearls were soft, chewy, and cooked just right. Every sip had a good amount of boba, which made the drinks even more enjoyable. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff kept things moving quickly despite a steady flow of customers. The vibe is modern, clean, and welcoming, making it a great place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. Overall, a solid boba spot in San Gabriel with fun flavor combinations and quality drinks.
Tea Maru's drinks were pretty good! We were looking around for some bubble tea/boba spots in San Gabriel and we were nearby so we gave it a try. The location is quite busy and the parking lot was full. We did find a spot on the street and just walked over. The location is small and seating is very limited. You can place your orders on the kiosk near the register. There's not much decoration going on, but you can study or do some work here. The drink menu is extensive and adjustments with sweetness can be made. We ended up trying the Okinawa Latte & Sweet Potato Fluffy Matcha. The drinks were made fast and we enjoyed them there. I really liked the Okinawa Latte. The roasted brown sugar flavor and black tea was great! It was a standout in terms of flavor and I think one of their top options. The Sweet Potato Fluffy Matcha was unique and not a bad option as well. My wife and I were pleased with the quality and taste of their drinks. Come by and give them a try. ( ^_^)b
I came here on a weekday late afternoon to get a boba drink. There was plenty of parking at this time. It was easy to order at the kiosk. I got the Maru Milk. The drink was sweet, and the boba was soft and chewy. When the order is ready, the person at the counter should call the name a little louder. I was close by and was watching, so I knew my drink was ready.
This place has a Groupon deal that was like $10 for like $14 worth of drinks. Totally worth it since boba or matcha nowadays cost close to $8. Drinks: 5/5 I really liked my Taro Fluffy Matcha. They use real taro in the drink. It was not too sweet and had taro was in really good chunks that weren't too big but still had good texture. The matcha was really good and balance nicely with the taro. Service: 5/5 This looks like a small family owned shop or franchise. The baristas were friendly and helped us activate our Groupons. The drinks were made fresh to order. Ambiance: 5/5 When we walked in, we saw one of the baristas making the boba. It looked like it was made fresh in house. I think this place would be a wonderful study space or a chill place to just hang out with friends. I cannot wait to try their other teas.
Tea Maru is located in San Gabriel in a small plaza on Las Tunas & Mission. Stopped in after a couple years. The space is bright and clean, with a long bench along the wall. However, there are too few tables to make it feel like a spot to hang out. Ordering is done at a kiosk, which feels a bit impersonal, and there was no greeting from the one employee behind the counter--even though we were the only customers. The kiosk also prompts for a tip before service, which didn't feel warranted based on our experience. On the plus side: The drinks were good. I had the Okinawa milk tea latte, subbing boba for pudding. It was nice to have options to change toppings, choose milk alternatives, adjust ice, and set your preferred level of sweetness. However, some substitutions did have extra costs. With so many tea/boba shops in the area, I think Tea Maru could step up by adding more tables, playing some music, and prioritizing customer service. As it stands, it feels like they're doing themselves a disservice.
I came here because of the fresh boba and enjoyed that there were different flavors like strawberry boba. I like that it's handmade which can be difficult to find. The drink I got was adjusted in sweetness and I got the cheese foam which had a nice balance. The staff was pretty helpful and friendly. The shop had open seating which didn't feel crowded when I went.
Came here for a quick boba pick me up and the drink was heavy on the milk than the tea. Half sweetness was still quite sweet. The handmade boba is the real star here which was perfectly chewy. Boba bumps it up to 4 stars. There's a lot of handwritten signage around for what's available, steps to use the kiosk, etc, but I thin it would help to print/laminate some of those pieces and do a little updating since a lot of the scotch tape is wearing off too.
I've passed by this tea spot numerous times so I know that it's quite small and it's located in a pretty busy plaza so parking can be difficult, especially on the weekends! They're open daily 11:30am-10:30pm Ordered Doordash and it arrived in less than an hour! They have a Doordash promotion currently - Honey Tea - 2 for $5.99 - Mango Jasmine Tea - 2 for $8.20 Menu has a good variety of tea and milk teas. Pricing is reasonable and most drinks are $5-7+. Toppings range from $0.65-$1.00 Loved that there are sugar, ice adjustments, as well as milk substitutions! The Mango Jasmine Tea with Housemade Boba was delicious! Got it half sweet and it was not too sweet and very refreshing! The Jasmine Tea tasted freshly brewed and fragrant! The Mango puree was very yummy and was made with real fruit! The Housemade Boba was very chewy and good! It was so soft and fresh! Definitely recommend getting this drink and the boba is a must! Overall, I really enjoyed my drink and will definitely recommend and return!
Review #918 2025-093 Drink Order: Kiwi Citrus Breeze with Mixed Boba (Strawberry, Mango, & Brown Sugar) $6.50 I trekked to SGV to claim a YCE, coincidentally it's also boba-related, & detoured to Tea Maru en route home so my 5 YO can enjoy a drink too. What separates Tea Maru from other boba shops their in-house craft of boba daily, using real fruit, vegetable, or simple ingredients... there's a definite difference in texture & chewiness! According to their website, they use natural ingredients & simple sweetener instead of powder, creamer, & fruit syrup. Confident in their handcrafted drinks, they offer a guarantee to remake your drink if you're not happy with it. I ordered a Kiwi Citrus Breeze with Mixed Boba because my son was into fruit teas at the time. If you want to try a mix of their craft boba, it's an extra 25¢ surcharge... $1.00 for a sampling of strawberry, mango, & brown sugar, totally worth it! Our drink was served quickly even with a few customers ahead of us. We weren't greeted upon entry because the bobaristas were busy executing loads of drinks, but she was warm & friendly when we picked up our drink. The tea had a fragrant floral jasmine flavor with sweet kiwi that's countered with zesty, citrusy lemon with tons of fresh, QQ chew boba (almost 1/3 cupful)! This was one of the few times that the drink was finished with quite a bit of leftover boba. The strawberry & brown sugar boba were most flavorful, but the mango wasn't as prevalent; other than its golden orange-yellow coloring, I probably didn't know that they were mango flavored boba. Their menu consists of signature drinks, tea lattes, fresh fruit teas, fresh brewed teas, cheese foam teas, & slushes; if this doesn't appeal to you, they also offer a "create your own drink" option. Price points are comparable to most boba shops in the area. Busy boba shop with efficient staff. We visited during the pandemic & the shop was cramped due to supplies being stocked in the dining area, & tables had their chairs flipped over & stacked to prevent indoor seating. When I'm in SGV visiting my brother, we would detour to Tea Maru for their yummy boba. Recommended: Kiwi Citrus Breeze with Mixed Boba.
Tea Maru in San Gabriel in SGV is so good! I came here with my boyfriend to satisfy our milk tea craving and I'm happy to report craving was satisfied. The place was small and had minimum tables but it's a relaxing vibe in there if you get one table lol I ordered the Okinawa latte, which was perfectly balanced, not too sweet. My boyfriend got the mango slush with ice cream We kept stealing sips from each other because both drinks were that good. Great boba, great atmosphere, staff was super nice and a perfect spot for a chill date. We'll be back
Best teas I have ever had in a long time. This is one of my top places to come and get a tea. I love how it has the pieces of fruit one of my favorite things to have. The location is easy to find just the parking might be difficult to find due to the place is in a strip mall. Other than that come and try one of the many drinks they have to offer you won't regret it at all.
Toogoodtogo App: 2 surprise drinks bagged up ready to go. Pretty worth if you want to get a drink with someone and love trying out new drinks. My surprise drink had: Hokkaido Milk tea with Aiyu jelly: Aiyu jelly was light and the hokkaido milk tea was had a light roasted milk tea flavor. Green tea with pudding.
Just a little background about me. I'm a boba fiend. I am one of those who will be a longtime repeated customer if I find something I like. It wouldn't feel right if I rated a business only after 1 try. My homegirl recommended Tea Maru SG a couple of yrs pre-covid. Lately, been stopping by a lot more than I would like to admit. The drinks have always been consistent for me. Tastes more unique than other shops I've visited & I appreciate that drinks aren't ridiculously sweet, just reasonable for what it is. -Customer service: Staff has always been normal, they take orders and make the drinks, idk if ppl expect a full on convo about ur day as if it was a coffeeshop or what. You hold up the line this way, and that's a no for me. I have no complaints here. They make drinks quick, wait usually 2 minutes on average (weekday afternoon or nighttime). In & out. DRINKS I GET: -This heat makes me crave Dalgona matcha mixed w/ real fruit pieces (I liked mango, but the crushed mango portion at the base is on the sweeter side, so I shake n let that b$tch marinade--the milk & matcha layers above is not sweet so it balances it out, matcha tastes authentic, slightly bitter, frothy) --other flavors available: strawberry, taro -Maru milk + sweet potato boba (my other choice- if you like creamy milk & brown sugar flavors, hint of cheese foam at the top, 50-75% sweet) Prices on boba MTs starting to range on average $7/cup around here, it is what it is. I would think this goes in hand with customer's expectations as well. They pay more so they expect consistency & better quality all around. Nowadays, there are plenty of boba spots around which are all worth a try. I would still recommend this spot to try only because they have house made boba (sweet potato, strawberry, mango, honey boba) & menu options are not overwhelming but will have enough variety to choose from--fruit drinks (i.e. real taro), milk teas, lattes (Dalgona) -Sweetness level: sweet just the right amount as is. If you enjoy less, then go 50-75% less. I typically order that at every boba shops even 0% sugar, but the drinks I like here I like it at 75-100% sweet. -Texture of boba: I like it Chewy, soft not mushy, may clump here and there, sweetness is not pronounced, hint of sweet potato since it is the real deal, plenty amount Size of cup: Only small or large for the drinks I get Large is not large imo--you finish quick. Probably 12oz. So for the price, it is quite small. Slim design with rounded base & heat sealed plastic lid. I would love for a level up though. the music in here was good, good AC as well. regretfully i had to exchange my grapefruit fantasy for a strawberry black tea because i really wasn't feeling the fantasy. but the person working there was genuinely concerned about what i felt about the drink and asked what they could do to improve the drink which was sweet. swear to god i think i was the issue and not the drink but anyway the strawberry black tea was good and i am very greatful that the person working there allowed me to change the drink. all the other drinks were good as well. the house made boba was good too! read more

I was so looking forward to checking out Tea Maru in San Gabriel since it will be a Yelp Event in the near future... spoiler alert! LOL Thought I swing on by since I was in the area. Not so great of a first impression. When I first walked in, I noticed boxes of inventory near the front door, seating area, kitchen, and ordering area. I was like... what is this!... a storage room? Next was the staff... I asked for recommendations and crickets were chirping LOL. Okay... I guess I'll take my chances with the drinks LOL. They are known for their homemade boba so that's something different. You can use their online ordering system near the front door or walk up to the cashier. We walked to the cashier since there was another customer at the pad. We ordered the Tea Maru Latte with mixed boba and Taro Storm with taro boba. The drinks displayed on screen are very pretty, but unfortunately, the taste, flavor, and sweetness were below par for both drinks. We got our drinks with regular sweetness, but it actually wasn't sweet at all... don't know if sweetness can go any higher LOL. I'm not too much of a sweet tooth, but I know sweetness, and there wasn't any here. Boba was okay and not that sweet if at all... nothing out of this world though. Storm was a tad better than the Latte if I had to choose the best out of the two. Again, staff was meh. She didn't appear too excited to be there. Atmosphere was meh. Taste of drinks was meh. I've been coming to Tea Maru for years. Their teas are on the stronger side and I usually get the Mango Green Tea to balance out the bitterness and sweetness. Lately, Tea Maru service has been mediocre with the long wait times. I remember once I had to wait 40 minutes for a drink when it was only 2 people ahead of me ordering a couple drinks. Also, I noticed the cost has gone up significantly from when I tried here years ago. The Mango Green Tea with Boba was over the $7.00+ range. Only a couple tables inside and they block out the restroom area so I don't recommend drinking or studying in the place. Ultimately, I do enjoy their tea drinks and boba it is refreshing but the significant price difference + long wait times makes it underwhelming. read more

My bf and I drove out here with a friend to grab some dessert after lunch. This isn't our territory so the drive is pretty out there but we just so happen to be in the area. Walking in, super cute boba shop! Their menu and different boba pearl options are what really caught my eye. I got the Maru Milk with Sweet Potato Boba! It didn't taste any different from regular boba and had the same texture which was really neat. It's cool to see other boba options other than tapioca! I've been wanting to try this place after friends recommending it. I ordered the Strawberry Blast with Green Tea and Strawberry Boba, and it was pretty good! It wasn't as sweet as I would've liked but it was still good. The drink reminded me of a strawberry jelly snack from Asian markets. The service was good as staff were very friendly and efficient. Parking was easy as well and there are seats within the shop to sit. Definitely recommend! read more
If we were going by the boba tier scale from S (for superior LOL) to F (for fail) I'd say Tea Maru is a solid B. The boba tapioca balls themselves are amazing as they're super chewy and flavorful. The drink is great but pretty standard for socal standards, albeit upscale standard, if you catch my drift. I got the mango green tea, with the mango purée as wonderful as usual. I like to get it 75% sweet which is a perfect level - not too sweet nor bitter. Another HUGE plus: they offer a 15% discount for medical staff due to covid. My sister just had to show her work ID and we were set! The price range is also moderate here, with the size of the drink definitely justifying the price. What's not to love about Tea Maru? read more
Quite disappointed with the DoorDash order. The fresh taro milk had sorta soggy boba that were not QQ chewy. There was also minimal taro and tasted watered down. The sweet potato fluffy matcha was just gross with rough pieces of sweet potato and small portion of purple sweet potato too. I found pieces of the sweet potato roots. If you like ube sweet potato drinks, I recommend Milkcow. It could have been an off-day as I have ordered in the past from them and enjoyed their Maru milk with fresh boba before. read more

I am a die-hard Mango Dalgona Fluffy Matcha advocate -- and you should stan this drink too. I'll admit that I cannot get myself to try any other drink on the menu because this drink literally has me on a chokehold. I'll have a sip of other drinks through my friends but I will always love her, and only her. She turns my bad days into good days, and good days into better. If you want me to advertise this drink for the rest of my life, I will @ Tea Maru ;) I was actually going to the location in LA, but the dalgona series are only in SG so I skrrrt over and made the best decision of my life. The matcha is authentic and doesn't overpower the flavors because the sweetness of the mango is so strong (in a good way). The little mango chucks at the bottom add such subtle texture and everything is so creamy and thick just the way I love it ! Sometimes I don't even add the boba (but it's still very chewy, sweet, and well-cooked). Literally need to earn points from the way I've been coming here so often. read more
Drinks are about $5-6. I came here a really long time ago when this place was relatively new. I got the black sesame boba, which was flavorful and chewy and tasted good, but not something I've specifically craved since. The milk tea itself was fine. read more
Rating - 4 Stars This review is just for their boba since I saw it was handmade and wanted to try it out. Needless to say, it was good enough where I'd want to try their other flavors now. Black Sesame tasted exactly like black sesame. Strawberry had a mild strawberry taste. And Sweet Potato I wasn't really able to discern the flavor. But texture-wise, it was soft and chewy. It had a decent chew, wasn't super soft, and just sweet enough. The only other handmade bobas I've had were from One Zo and Mr. Sun Tea, and I'd say it's more comparable to One Zo just cause I found Mr. Sun Tea to have more of a firmer, gummy bear kind of chew. read more
If you're looking for a place with some bomb boba this would be it. Their boba is homemade, chewy, and on point. I recommend the Taro Milk with Sweet Potato boba, matcha latte with strawberry boba, or the Tea latte with brown sugar boba. Their staff are friendly, have good recommendations if you're new. They are still offering the 15% off for frontline workers and first responders at this time. Overall, I've had no bad experiences here and will definitely continue coming back! read more
Food: Fluffy organic milk blended with real mango and topped with matcha. Super refreshing after a long day at work. This is their new item and I will come back to try the other new items. Staff: they offer 15% off for all frontline healthcare workers which is really sweet and supportive. Friendly welcomed me as I walked in and took my order and the drink was ready speedy. Came on a Friday evening (during COVID). They keep everyone out unless you're ordering or picking up an order, which I like! They have a microphone to call out the names for finished orders so waiting outside isn't as annoying. They also have QR codes for their menu all over the place. They have two GrubHub self checkout registers on top of the regular register. The parking isn't great. Luckily I came on a rainy day so there wasn't really anyone at the plaza. My sister the Uji Matcha drink + oat milk with sweet potato boba. We didn't really like the Uji Matcha. We were debating between Uji Matcha and the Matcha Dalgona series, so we'll probably try that next! I ordered the Taro Milk + soy milk + sweet potato boba. IT WAS SO GOOD. They use real taro and I think the soy milk complements the taro so much better than regular milk. We both really liked it! Their regular sweetness is pretty on par with Sharetea. I don't like things too sweet so we got the drinks at 50%. I think the taro is sweetened beforehand so I would level down on sweetness if you get something with taro! read more

Omggggggg, ok I really liked this place but it was going downhill every time I came here hoping to give it another chance. When I first tried this place, I was so amazed by the sweet potato boba texture and the tea was very nicely refined. I went in yesterday expecting it to be a quick boba trip, but for some reason, I waited like 40 minutes (after I ordered) for boba and I have never waited that long for a boba drink in my life. I walked in and ordered as usual, there was so many people waiting in the lobby and I thought to myself "wow they're really poppin' today.. must be because the weather is really hot right now", but it just turns out that all these other people waited for so long and the staff seem so behind on their orders. What happened?? By the time I finally got my drink, I quickly had to go somewhere else, so I just grabbed my drink and left. Trying my drink, it literally tasted like a very very very very very watered down version of tea? It literally tastes like WATER FLAVORED TEA. The boba wasn't even as great and texturized as I remembered, and the drink and wait was soooooo not worth it. I should've honestly went somewhere else. This was so disappointing and a waste of money. read more
I will caveat that this is my first time trying, and I've only had one drink so far, so I could be wrong. I have a friend who has been here multiple times before and also thinks the drinks themselves are average, although the housemade boba is pretty good, which I agree with. It was a really hot day, so I wanted something refreshing that would quench my thirst. I decided to go for a honey lemon tea with strawberry boba, and opted for 75% sweetness (which was the only less sugar option they had for this drink). It was still too sweet for my liking though, and rather than quench my thirst, I felt like this drink did the opposite because of its sweetness. I'll give it to them that the boba was well done though, and the texture/chewiness is pretty good. But I was really hoping for a solid cup of iced tea on a hot day though, and this place did not deliver on that for me. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing and I'm less of a sweet tooth. Also note that they don't have any seating currently. So it's totally a grab and go situation. read more

I usually love this place for the flavored bobas (black sesame especially). Placed an online order for 2 drinks with black sesame boba at 11:40 and received confirmation that the order will be ready after 11:55. I arrived a little early but didn't go up to the counter because I didn't want to rush them. I waited until 12 and people that placed in person orders after me got their drinks already and left. I went up to the counter to ask if my drinks were ready, they said it'll be a few more mins because they haven't made it yet. 5 mins later they call me back up and say they actually haven't made the black sesame boba yet and if I want to substitute with a different boba or wait another 20 mins for it to be ready. Wish they would've called me earlier to tell me this instead of waiting for me to come up and ask. They open at 11:30 and their black sesame is ONLY available on weekends, I would think they'd have the black sesame boba available at 11:40 on a Saturday? There were only 2 employees and maybe they're new? The drinks I got were still delicious, just a disappointed with the service. read more

I love that they make their own boba. They have flavors such as mango, strawberry, sweet potato and regular boba. The boba texture is so soft and chewy and very tasty. I ordered a strawberry matcha and kiwi citrus drink. The kiwi citrus is nice and tarte and refreshing and comes with mango boba. The matcha strawberry is creamy and sweet. I like that their strawberry puree is homemade. Overall, just service and tasty drinks. I would definitely come back! read more
As you may have seen from my check ins, I have been a patron for awhile now. (Not to mention a number of times I forget to check in.) From their grand opening to their now COVID days, I have supported this business. I understand these are hard times but the consistent inconsistent order and poor service is inexcusable. From pre-COVID to today, the number of times that my order is incorrect greatly outnumbers the times I have received a correct order. Today I placed an online order for two drinks. The Taro drink came as slush, which was not what I ordered. The second drink was suppose to have no ice. And what did I get? Ice. Again, this is not the first time this has happened. Why make customizable options if it is just to be ignored? The service has definitely remained the same, poor. Order is suppose to be ready for pickup at 1:18pm. I walked in and my order was not even prepped. I was asked to wait 10 minutes. Meanwhile, I see customers who show up in store to place order being serviced before me. So why bother placing a order ahead of time when in store order take priority over pre-order? After waiting in my car for 10 minutes, I return to the store only to see that my order has not even been made yet. So I waited 20 minutes for an incorrect order without even an explanation as to why my order was delay. Again this is not the first time this has happened. This is consistent. I just don't bother writing reviews about it each time. I only tolerate this because the nearby boba places are either subpar and/or hyped with price tag without quality. But if another housemade boba place opened nearby, you can bet I will take my business there. read more

They make different flavored boba balls which is one of the more unique things about them. I'm happy to see that they're actually flavored tapioca balls and not just popping boba balls (which is typically what I see when I see fruit-flavored boba). You can actually see their boba making station which is really cool and makes their boba taste "fresher" in some regards, I think this place is better for their fruit tea combinations. Their drinks are also on the sweeter side, so I personally prefer half sweetness on their drinks. ..... This is probably one of my fav boba establishments in SGV. Their boba are freshly made so it's super soft and chewy. My go to drink is the Maru Latte and Milk Tea Latte (less sweet). The tea is absolutely delicious, and the customer service is amazing. I messed up stabbing the straw through and they offered to reseal for me! They're sweet & make great teas. :) Left: my boyfriend doesn't remember what he ordered, but it was the 1st thing listed on the kiosk! normal ice, 75% sweet, maru cheese foam, with strawberry boba. Stumbled on this place after having golden deli. I had the matcha affogato strawberry but they have a whole matcha series right now with many different flavors. I had it subbed with oat milk. There aren't a lot of basic drinks here. My usual go to drinks are passion fruit green tea or oolong milk tea but they didn't have either of those here. I ended up trying their strawberry fluffy matcha and it was soooo good. You can't adjust the sweetness levels unfortunately but to my surprise it wasn't super sweet. Although the drink looks really aesthetic when it has its 3 layers, make sure to shake the drink to mix all of the flavors together. The bitterness of the matcha, neutral creaminess of the milk, and sweetness of the strawberry jam all blends together creating an excellent drink. My friend ordered their Maru milk and he did not like it but is their number one drink so give it a try if you are a fan of brown sugar boba milk. Overall I would go again and most likely order the same drink. read more
