This place doesn't look like much, but it's a diamond in the rough in my book. Every time I go, I order the eel rice. The eel rice is in a bento box, and comes with a delicious salad, radishes, ginger, and seaweed soup. It's a little pricey, but you get a lot for what you pay. While staying around the corner from Tea Spots, it immediately became my go-to place for boba and, admittedly, free WiFi. My favorite tea would have to be the strawberry green tea. It's delicious, and tastes fresh with with some pieces of strawberry at the bottom of the cup. Speaking of the cups, the sizes are pretty big. Tea Spots is the only place I've come across with mini boba, so I had to try them out. They're great, and you can sip them through a regular sized straw. The food here is great as well. I've tried the spicy popcorn chicken, fried tofu and spring rolls. They were all delicious, and their dipping sauces are good as well. Between the delicious boba and food, super friendly staff, late hours, and free WiFi, I'd say Tea Spots definitely deserves five stars. It tasted like the japanese-style curry, being more on the sweeter and smokey side but it was good. I also tried the shrimp wonton noodle soup and that was actually AMAZING. This soup had tons of flavor and I'm surprised people don't order it more. I would definitely come back just for this soup! It's that good! I came here after eating at the Mongolian place next door. I really like the vibe of this place! Being a nerd myself, this trendy little boba tea cafe sets up a nice place for all the PCC and Cal Tech students around the area to study. There wasn't annoying music blasting from speakers, and this place has plenty of tables and booths around to allow for space between each study party. Yay for study parties! I mentioned Cal Tech students because apparently there's a student discount for Cal Tech students only. Pretty bias, especially since they probably get most of their business from PCC students that are right across the street from them. Located within walking distance from campus, this is my go-to place for tea and/or dinner on days I have class at PCC! Large selection of drinks and serves mostly Chinese/Taiwanese food. The food here is delicious, and they give you a lot of it too! Pricing is relatively inexpensive, which is always a plus. Definitely recommend their minced pork rice! The rice is super moist which I love and the minced pork is perfectly fatty and flavorful. Comes with steamed veggies as well. I've also had their chicken curry rice and it wasn't bad but it was a little too spicy for me so I personally wouldn't get it again. Watch out for the large slices of ginger that can easily be mistaken for potato if you're getting the chicken curry! You can add a regular sized green, black, or oolong tea with your meal order for just $1, or a large sized green/black/oolong tea for $1.50 and I think its $2 for their super size. I've tried Tea Spots three times and all of my visits had mixed results that ultimately made me rate this place with three stars. On my first visit, I ordered the spicy minced beef noodle and a matcha smoothie with free boba by using my check in coupon. The noodles were delicious and definitely not what I expected. When I first took a bite of the dumpling, I felt like it tasted exactly like the frozen dumplings I usually buy from a Chinese supermarket; the only difference was that it was fried and seasoned. I'm not saying I definitely know that it's the same dumpling, but the familiar taste of the filling sure made me wonder if it was. I had no complaints for the white chocolate smoothie; it made my day. On my third visit, I just felt like trying their Japanese pork soup ramen with very little expectations in mind. When my order came out, I was delighted to see a fried egg on top of a bed of ramen noodles, seaweed, kamaboko, and pork. However, I was immediately disappointed as I took a spoon of the soup. It was really...really...salty. The only thing that resonated in my taste buds was salt. I tried watering it down, but that didn't help at all. The pork belly also wasn't very pleasing because I don't really like the texture of fat and I wished they served better quality pork. The ambiance is really nice and not what I expected from the looks of the outside condition of the restaurant. The service is really friendly and quick, but just know that they only allow credit cards if the order is at least $10. I had lunch here today with the boyfriend after a very early morning. It wasn't packed at all given the location (across from PCC) and the time (Noon 12, lunch hour), so that was great. Our drinks came out first, which were both delicious. He got the jasmine milk tea. They were followed shortly after by our appetizer which was also great. This is the Asian-themed alternative to Starbucks, where the snacks are made of delicious seafood, and the drinks are actually enjoyable. Spying all the PCC students studying as J-Pop and R&B played in the background gave Tea Spots a really hip vibe. And the menu of simple snacks is something to be excited about. I've gone about 4 times and I've just never been blown away by it. I've had Thai Tea, Taro milk and jasmine milk and all of them were just kinda meh. They tasted fairly artificial, very sweet (although I suppose I could've fixed this myself) and I just wasn't impressed on any level. The boba is too chewy and has no flavor, so it was really worse than anything else there. The mini boba was slightly better, but I don't really like that concept to start so it's not worth it. Additionally, 2 of the times I went they were out of full size boba at about 10 pm. A little early if they're closing at 12. Drink is a 2/4, boba a 2/6. That's a 4/10 and 2 stars on Yelp. read more
