Bubble tea is one of my many life essentials. I consider myself to be an experienced Bubble tea enthusiast. Ive had a lot of bubble tea at different spots, so I can say that this place isn't my favorite bubble tea place, but it surely meets my bubble tea needs! At Jumbo Jumbo, I have always had pleasant experiences with the service. They are friendly, and when your food is ready, they usually walk it over to wherever you are instead of screaming out the name of the drink and leaving it on the counter, which is a nice gesture. The place and bathroom is aesthetically pleasing and clean. Im a huge fan of taro, so I gotten the frozen taro bubble smoothie there twice, which was great. Taro flavor was yummy per usual, and the bubbles were perfectly chewy. Another time I got the honeydew frozen smoothie with bubbles and this flavor was not my favorite. I will not be ordering the honeydew flavor at jumbo jumbo again. I usually enjoy honeydew flavored bubble tea at other places, but here, there was something off with whatever they used to make the drink. Im not big on eating meat, but I hear they have great food as well. My brothers and my friends love getting their crispy chicken with rice combo. They also have this awesome rewards system which does not require an annoying punch card. You simply input your number at the register and you also get discounts through text (which are awesome!), which you can stop anytime. I would surely recommend this place if you need a bubble tea fix or some good food on the go! read more

Something changed with Jumbo Jumbo. Even within the year or so, it wasn't AMAZING, but still good enough for us to return. The last time we went a few months ago, the bubble tea was...undrinkable. There was so much syrup, when we poured it out, it was thick like honey. The food we got was also disappointing, even the popcorn chicken. The staff at the front was very welcoming and helped us choose what to order. I got the black bubble tea, popcorn chicken combo, and spicy thai wings combo. The tea was pretty good. I ordered takeout at this location for the first time tonight. I called in and they were friendly and quick in taking my order. This location is part of a shopping center with a row of parking spaces directly outside the cafe. Our order was ready when promised - 15 minutes which was great. They even included extra napkins and utensils with We ordered the Taiwanese chicken meal and mango green tea. The chicken pieces were tender and juicy with no bones and the rice was topped off with shredded carrot and cabbage pieces. So good! The veggies had crunch and were also mixed in with some ground pork. Honestly one of the worst milk tea experiences I've had. When I asked for 25% sugar they mixed black tea without milk in which basically made it taste like a watered down milk tea. They put barely any of the topping I had asked for in the drink at all. And I could tell the quality of the red bean was shit because it looked like it was fricken dissolving on the bottom. Then they proceeded to use a RIDICULOUSLY loud blender or vacuum. Couldn't tell because over never experienced something so loud in an eating establishment. While putting in some gas, I saw this Jumbo Jumbo, and I knew I had to grab some drinks! I've been to their Rockville location, so I knew that their smoothies and boba beverages would be delicious. They have your three sizes: small, large, and jumbo (get the jumbo to quench all that thirst!). The ladies on shift this evening were so unbelievably awesome and oh-so-sweet - Wendy and Euphie!!! :D They also made some great recommendations! I had the Coconut Milk Tea (little ice, no tapioca), Lychee Smoothie (with tapioca), House Black Milk Tea (little ice, no tapioca - creamy and delicious!), and Wendy's favorite, the Lychee Green Tea (little ice, no tapioca - one of my favorites, as it had a lovely flower-y taste to it (which I actually really enjoy!)). Just keep note that you can also request the sweetness level (I ask for 'not too sweet'). Be sure to check out the little board next to the cashier that lists the 'Top 10' drink flavors that changes weekly. The place itself is a little small, with a few tables, but updated and clean. Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot, some seating inside for you to get your snack on immediately. Friendly service, though only the shift manager really knew what was going on-- no shaved ice until summer makes sense, but not knowing if you had noodles to make the soups that were on the screen menu is a little odd. Taiwan popcorn chicken is solid (no candle to COJ), evenly coated small pieces that aren't as spicy as the reasonable portion of fried string beans. The boba in my jumbo cup stayed cooked through, and the red bean pretty much has no sweetener added-- should've asked for some milk with my ice. Meat takes longer to come out than veg, as to be expected. I'll be back to try the pork dishes as well, and eventually the soups that have passed my scrutiny at the other location. read more

I'm a fan of their Rockville locations, so I'm really happy they came up to Germantown! The store is clean and modern inside, but there is very limited seating. Their Taiwanese popcorn chicken is just as crunchy here and the bubble tea offering is still just as extensive as ever. Parking could be an issue, as the row of spaces is shared with a nail salon, cleaners, and Starbucks, but there's a massive parking lot nearby. You'll just have to walk a little extra to satisfy your cravings. They're currently operating on a limited menu, which means no noodle offerings quite yet, but the star essentials are there. read more

When you're spoiled with "top shelf" boba in California, it's hard to really enjoy the "house" stuff elsewhere. Jumbo Jumbo has a huge variety of ice smoothies, milk tea, iced tea, and summer drinks. You order by choosing your type of drink, your flavor, your size, and your toppings. They have pretty average boba drinks. This review is strictly for the bubble tea! I have been to several jumbo jumbo locations and their teas have all been consistent. However, this particular chain is not my favorite style of bubble tea. Theirs is slightly "watered down" tasting which some people may prefer, but I prefer more milky and creamy bubble tea. There are other chains which are much better. If you happen to come, the standard black tea and taro flavors are safe bets. Many people come mostly for the food, which I have not tried but have heard good things. In terms of the bubble tea though, there a better options out there! read more

What the pork? Limited menu with lots of rice. If you want the classic Taiwanese fried chicken, pork over rice and bubble tea, they have them. But most of the entrees are pork over rice + another ingredient, which means you better love their appetizers and pork if you come here for dinner. They don't have noodles or hot beverages, so we ended up getting more pork. Seating is very limited, with 4-5 small tables on the side, and parking spots are labeled 1-hour only, but hard to say if that's actually enforced. Despite them getting our order wrong twice, they were polite in handling our food and transaction. Jumbo Jumbo in Germantown will remain a good snack place until they come out with a full menu, and we will wait to come back to this location until then. I was hesitant to go here because I LOATHE the Jumbo Jumbo in Rockville (worst customer service ever) but it as 5PM and I didn't even eat lunch yet (I get hangry) and this was the most appealing option in Germantown. Service was quick and friendly, food was fantastic and affordable. I wish the black milk tea was a little stronger, but it was still very very very good. The bubbles were just perfect as well- the perfect chewy yet soft texture. And I usually dislike the fruit flavors but my SO's strawberry one was on point! i ordered the asian chicken entree mistakening it for the taiwanese fried chicken, but it as excellent nevertheless. Unlike the taiwanese fried chicken, this one does not have basil and it's one whole cutlet. They use the same savory (MSG ladden) seasoning salt and cornstarch coating giving it a good umami crunch and add little pork crumbles and some cabbage on the side. They are not very generous with their pork crumbles (If you like that, you HAVE to go to Taipei Cafe in Rockville) and the cabbage was so-so (akin to the cabbage you get at Sarku's teriyaki stand in malls across the area.) I've been there a few times since it opens and I decide to write a review today because a review shouldn't be based on a single visit. Consistency is the key of a running good business. As usual, i ordered their signature Taiwanese crispy chicken and a new dish - BBQ Chicken that I never ordered before. Surprisingly, the BBQ chicken taste better than it looks as you can tell from the pic. It's tender and juicy even though my friend thinks that it doesn't have enough flavor but maybe that's why i loved it, I am not a fan of strong artificial flavor. The crispy chicken is as good as before and the portion is more than enough for a 200lb man. I wish they have a combo with the drink for a discounted price. It was our first time here and I decided to try something new, after the person taking our order recommended the winter melon milk and said it was his favorite. My friend bought a groupon for this place by mistake so we came and tried it out. This place is even smaller than the other two locations in Rockville. The decor was nice and simple. However, there are limited seatings so it's not suitable for big groups. I always get the Taiwanese popcorn chicken which was really good. The spice they put was just perfect. The beef noodle soup which is pretty popular here tasted ok to me. Not a big fan. The fried tofu appetizer was too bland. I like the crispiness of the skin but some spice was missing. I had a bite of the bbq chicken bun which was not as good as it looked from the picture. The most disappointing item was my winter melon tea. The sweetness was alright but it didn't have much winter melon flavor and the grass jelly was a little tougher than it supposed to be. I usually frequent the other two Jumbo Jumbo locations, Jumbo Jumbo and Asia Taste both in Rockville. This location was definitely the friendliest, cleanest, cutest, and least populated. I did go on a Thursday at about 4pm in the pouring rain, but that's beside the point. I called in my order, two orders of crispy chicken with ground pork on rice. No problem placing the order, it was ready in about ten minutes and the nice gentleman walked around the counter to hand me my bag. The crispy chicken tasted on par with the other locations, but lacking a bit of spice. The pork and rice was fine, but the cabbage was pretty much RAW. Thankfully, I didn't come for the cabbage, but the rest of the dish. I will probably return to this location since it's so convenient, but I'm still partial to my forever love, Asia Taste. read more

This place is not run in the same way as the other Jumbo Jumbo/Asia taste restaurant in Rockville, and feels like the quality has gone down. We are regulars of the one on Frederick road, but we were out in the Germantown area and had been to this one a couple of time in the past with success. However, more recently the Taiwanese chicken was soggy with uneven, excess coating and the bubbles in the bubble tea are a mushy texture. Loved the chicken dish. Crispy, hot and salty. Perfect crunch. Call ahead and order if you're going to pick up because they do fry them when they get the order and not before, in batches. My problem is the pork on rice part of the dishes, since I can't eat pork so it ended up being a little dry for me (there's no other gravy) Maybe if they offered a choice between ground pork and ground beef over rice it'd be more accessible to a larger customer base. I asked about the noodles and soups and they said when it was warmer weather. So I hope that means in a week or two. Of course bubble tea was great. I always get mango flavored tea, but one of these days I'll go out of my comfort zone :P All in all, a good place if you really love fried taiwanese style chicken. read more

Went here with two of my friends one day to get some boba tea. This was actually my first time at any Jumbo Jumbo cafe. One of my friends had actually came here before but had a poor experience with the workers about their free drink coupon. (she wrote a review about it on here) Both of my friends are more familiar with the Rockville location though. I got a strawberry milk tea boba with lychee jelly while my friends bought a blueberry boba and a yogurt boba with bubbles. My strawberry milk tea was pretty good in my opinion. We each tried each others drinks but the blueberry one was gross. The yogurt one was alright. I ended up finishing my strawberry drink while the other two only drank a little less than half and threw the rest away. I don't know what was in those drinks though because after we all went home we ended up getting a stomach ache. Not really sure but I think I'll stick to going to the Rockville location. read more

This small Jumbo Jumbo location has some great crowd pleasing special tea flavors that can't be found at other locations. I really enjoyed the strawberry shortcake smoothie with boba. I chose it because it sounded fascinating. Was pleasantly surprised when I was able to taste the strawberry shortcake because making a drink that imitates a classic dessert can either be a hit or miss. Luckily it was a HIT! Sweet and refreshing. Would love it if the other locations had this flavor too! They'd have all of my business. read more

This place makes amazing bubble tea. The tapiocas (bubbles) are tastier than most places that sell bubble tea. They have a very wide variety of choices that you can pick from including flavors and type of tea such as green/black tea. My personal favorite is sour apple black tea with bubbles. The prices are reasonable for the sizes you choose. They also sell food here which is quite good. I've only had the pho but it's a ton of food for the price. There is seating inside if you want to wait for your food and go or to eat as if it were a restaurant. The employees here are very high spirited and super friendly. I highly recommend this place overall to anyone looking for bubble tea or food. read more

Jumbo Jumbo is probably now one of my favorite places to stop by and get a quick bite. The bubble tea and food were delivered quickly, and the workers there were kind. I ordered the Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, which tasted so good! It was quite a lot of the price too, which was a bonus. The chicken was very crispy and juicy, and I could taste some slight spice, which I though enhanced the taste even more. The bubble tea was pretty good too for the price. I ordered a vanilla milk tea with bubbles, and it tasted great, although slightly artificial. But all in all, I thought this as a very neat and convenient place to stop by to eat. There is so much to try, including dozens of different tea flavors and toppings (each for 50 cents extra). It is also very clean and I love the minimalist design. The employee who took our order was friendly, and we got our bubble teas very fast. There are a handful of tables inside but overall the place is not very big and seems like more of a takeout spot. As for the bubble tea itself, it is VERY sweet. I don't know if it was the sweetness or the toppings I got (boba and lychee jelly), but I felt nauseous halfway through my drink and had to stop drinking it. I know the menu says the sweetness is adjustable, but I have a feeling I'd need to tell them to add barely any syrup just to stomach it. Their syrup is intense and they add a lot to a regular drink. It might be just me. I can handle sweetness but as long as it's done tastefully, and syrupy sickly sweet is not my taste. I would not get the bubble tea again. Stopped here on my drive back from D.C. and although i'm usually loyal to strictly matcha bubble tea (which they didn't have) i was surprised by the jasmine green milk tea! It was really good and i wish i could have tried more, i heard the strawberry shortcake smoothie is really good and if i'm ever in the area again i'll be back to try it! I have been a loyal customer for years. The food has always been consistent among the different locations. However, I'm very dissatisfied with the Taiwanese chicken combo I got today. The chicken was very dry and I'm pretty certain it was not freshly prepared like they do normally. Given the COVID situation I would imagine restaurants to be avoiding this kind of food quality to retain business. Very disappointing. read more

As other reviewers have mentioned, parking is limited in front of the store. They are also labeled as "One Hour Parking", so be mindful of how long you're staying. I had the almond milk tea with bubbles and it was pretty good. Nothing to write home about, though. Very standard. My friend ordered the Taiwanese chicken and it was pretty good. Very crispy. We couldn't finish it, so the employees gave us a take-home box when we asked for one. Seating is very limited inside, so it would be best to get your drink/food to go. Also, there is a $10 minimum if you want to pay with a credit card. All-in-all, not a bad place to get boba. There doesn't seem to be a wide-range of customized drinks (think: Kung Fu Tea), but it was still worth the time to swing by and grab a drink. read more

YES finally a bubble tea joint in Germantown! My days of trekking out to Rockville Pike are over. I'm a huge fan of Jumbo Jumbo's other locations and was thrilled to hear that they had opened nearby. The location is small but has a decent amount of seating - may not be good for large groups though. Same bubble tea menu as the other locations (black milk tea with red bean is by far my favorite). The food menu is much less diverse but the cashier assured me that they would be adding noodle soups and shaved ice within the next couple of months. The famous Taiwanese popcorn chicken is here though and highly recommended. Boyfriend and I got the BBQ chicken with ground pork over rice. Almost everything on their menu is fried, so we opted for this entree. Very simple dish but felt like comfort food. Not too oily and a decent portion size for the price.
