Love Teddy's cafe! Their pancakes are super delicious and so are their house potatoes! They are everything you want breakfast potatoes to be! For my vegan fam, they make oatmeal with water, and they offer bananas and brown sugar as a topping! There is nothing spectacular about the oatmeal, but it gets the job done and the portion is great! The service is friendly and quick, no complaints there! There's a good mix of people, so it's a pretty welcoming environment! I had just eaten at another diner in the area and was impressed by the reviews here, so we came in early in the afternoon to check it out. Surprisingly busy, I must say! I ordered the vegetarian omelette. The cheese was melted on top instead of being in the omelette, which made it sticky and hard to eat without acting like tooth glue... the omelette itself was surprisingly dry, which is good when you've got a lot of wet vegetables in it but bad if you eat your omelette plain, like I do. My mom said her burger tasted handmade, and not like a frozen patty, so that's a point in their favor. My dad liked his French toast. My husband enjoyed his breakfast burrito. All in all, this place is a fine option if you're in the area and want a quick bite to eat, but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

Our first time was terrific and we'll be back! It seems like everyone knows each other and the staff made us feel very welcome. The place is cool with Mexican memorabilia and the food was delicious. Had the breakfast special. Pancakes were huge (3) with two sunny side up eggs. The omelet was giant too and the breakfast potatoes were crispy. Plus constant refills on coffee before having to ask. After decades of seeing Teddy's Cafe at corner of Pico and Centinela, finally stopped in for a bite. OMG, best burger taste and value on Westside. Burger is huge. Its char grilled (my fave), comes with soup or salad and steak fries, all for less than $13.00. Place hasn't been remodeled in decades but it was clean and service was welcoming. Many regulars that the waitress called by their first names. Food was so great, I'll probably become a regular in due time. read more

Who knew? This unassuming cafe rocks! It's packed, but they get you in quickly. The pancakes are fluffy and a little chewy: delicious overall. The omelette was outstanding! And so were the hashbrowns. Even a simple English muffin here is done to perfection with melted butter. it is a very casual family restaurant, but fantastic for breakfast. Four stars because they are a little shorthanded on the waiting staff, but you can tell they are hard-working, very friendly and trying to do their best. We really enjoyed this place very much and will be back for sure. read more

First time here today because this place is just outside my diner radius. Bummer! I've been missing out for decades on my kind of diner: homey vibe, leans Mexican, runs cheap and fills me up with exactly what I want. I get huevos rancheros almost everywhere I go for eggs, and I'm a bit particular, so my jaw dropped when they were just the way I like 'em: eggs, beans, good salsa and even extra tortillas on the side. The Denver Omelette looked pretty good, but the pre-sliced cheese on top diminished the appearance. The cheese should have been on the inside. Forget looks though, the omelette itself was pretty good sans cheese. The hash browns were crunchy (but not too crunchy) and really good, especially with some added salt. The jam for the toast was in a serving plastic cup, and it went from table to table with the same spoon. Not a fan of the concept. I got sourdough toast because they were out of biscuits :(. There was only one waitress for seven tables and the counter. No one was in a hurry, so she handled it fine. I bet they could sell property this property for a ton (but then, no Teddy's). read more

A solid three stars plus for this small hole-in-a-wall diner. I've eaten here about five times in the last year. This is the ultimate un-fancy, very casual restaurant with an array of eclectic customers, from dirty blue collar to clean white collar. The small parking lot next to the building is often filled with customers; street parking is nearly impossible on Pico. I've had several omelet breakfasts here. Consistently good and filling. Nothing fancy and nothing to say wow about; just your good basic food. Coffee is always good, too, including the Decaf, which I usually have issues with at restaurants. Teddy's always has fresh vegetable soup or fresh vegetable sides to go with dinner orders, which you really don't see a lot of in similar places in L.A. (It has been my experience that diner veggies are usually canned or frozen). Last meal: Salmon that was excellent. Blue cheese dressing on the salad was good. Nice portion of greens and very simple. Fresh veggies, a medley of broccoli and zucchini. I asked for corn tortillas instead of bread that comes with dinner. No problem and the tortillas had been heated on the grill and wrapped in wax paper and foil; a rather traditional method "por comida hecho en casa." read more

This is one of the last remaining "greasy spoon" diners on the westside that actually has reasonable prices. The staff are super friendly and quick to refill your coffee. I usually go for the chorizo and eggs breakfast which is always good - some places have rubbery chorizo, and it comes with housemade salsa and warm tortillas. The sandwiches are great and they have the thick cut fries which are always cooked to a golden brown - crunchy but soft in the middle. I always feel welcome at this place, it has a nice vibe. read more

Overall my experience here was pretty decent. The portions for the price is quite a deal especially with choices like the Normandie. The bacon was crunchy, pancakes were pretty decent as a 3 stack, and the rest of the food was adequate as well. Love this place more with every visit. No one here is messing around. They're running a delicious no frills diner with timely service and relaxed atmosphere. The service is incredibly awesome. You don't wait forever on a simple request and then get charged some crazy percentage service fee for them to bring you a dabble of heat for your eggs. You look at the wait staff with the slightest of raised brow and a full bottle of Tobasco shows up before you can twist your neck. Friendly as ever staff. I don't mean a hipster type place with avacado toast but a real breakfast joint serving hearty American Breakfast like bacon, eggs, steak, etc. I came here over the weekend for the first time. It was close to my friend's house and he suggested it. The place is super busy but the host did a great job of getting people seated. The biscuit and gravy here is legit. The biscuit is super fluffy and soft and the gravy is not too think but not to think either. I also had the country fried steak with hashbrowns extra crispy, and eggs sunny side up. The country fried steak was fried a little bit to much but neither the less it was very good. The hashbrowns were excellent, and I got 3 eggs unlike most places that only give you 2. I tried my friends chorizo and eggs. That too tasted very good. Parking is a Bi$#h. But well worth it. Overall, a great breakfast joint. A West LA staple, Teddy's is one of those places that makes you feel like you're back in your hometown. I love to come here for breakfast on Sundays and sit at the counter for his veggie omelette AND pancakes! You can find Teddy himself behind the counter serving customers with a smile using his cash register that is older than me. Great prices and good food in an old-timey diner setting. Excellent prices! I was shocked to see that their steaks were only $13 (more expensive than most of the other menu items), and I had to give it a try. Overall, the steak definitely wasn't perfect--half of it was cooked a great medium-rare, but the other was medium and there was a bit too much fat for my taste. But for $13, the steak, along with a salad, bread and fruit, was a steal! My boyfriend was also pretty happy with his pancakes, fries and free refills of Coke. The venue is cute and charmingly old-fashioned. The place is a bit overcrowded because it's quite popular with the locals, but the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The food came quickly, and the waiters were very present and welcoming. There's a parking lot out back, and if it's full, there's also plenty of street parking nearby. The diner only accepts cash, but there's an ATM inside, so it's not a big burden. Overall, I would definitely come back for the charming atmosphere and great prices! read more

I came into this restaurant for lunch/dinner (early dinner) on 12/18/2017 at 4:00PM. We were one of only three parties in the restaurant during the duration of our visit. We were told we could sit anywhere. The gentleman who was our server was very pleasant, kind and efficient. The diner is very interesting, with lots of different types of seating around the restaurant. The restaurant appeared clean for a very old building. Now, the food --- definitely pretty good! Especially for the price!! I had the Western Burger with mushrooms and bacon along with a bowl of ham and lima bean soup. Everything tasted really great and was cooked the way I wanted it. I would definitely return to this place, when I am in the mood for good quality diner food at an excellent price! read more

Do I regret coming here? Maybe. Was it the only place open for breakfast at the time? Yeah. The service was good and fast but the food was pretty much bad. The price matched the portion sizes but the quality was not it. Nothing was fresh and the coffee tasted terrible. The gravy for the country fried steak was bland, the sauce for the omelette was canned and bland, the cheese on the omelette was a slice of American, pancakes were dry. This place is a gem. Obviously a favorite with locals- for a reason. We dropped in on our way back from the Pier, and while it didn't look like much it was a very pleasant experience! Low prices for high quality food. We were served and food was cooked very quickly, everything tasted amazing, and we couldn't believe the prices (especially the very tasty prime rib special- $16 for a hearty portion plus salad or soup, potato, vegetable, bread, with horseradish and au jus that you could tell was actually made from the fresh pan juices. Delectable, and who knew you could find this kind of deal on the Westside?) All the staff are so sweet and helpful, accurate and knowledgeable, and the bathrooms are scrupulously clean and smell like Lysol and Comet.
