Hot open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy
    Julie M.

I didn't realize that I had never posted a review of Teddy's! We don't go often, but we have been going to Teddy's on occasion when we travel to the west side to go to Santa Monica College, for years. We've gone twice in the last few weeks, and it's as good as ever. Teddy's is an old school home style cafe/diner on Bundy and Pico. It actually is a community landmark where locals congregate and hang out. The other plus is that they are Spanish-language friendly. Ambiance is cozy, friendly and homey and service is great! Menu includes standard diner fare, comfort food. We've recently had the open faced hot turkey sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes, which was good, and we enjoyed it. The next time JJ had a bowl of split pea soup, which was excellent! He also had the tuna sandwich, which he enjoyed as well, but said it was a little on the dry side. I ended up deciding on breakfast at 5 pm in the afternoon--- combo with pancakes, eggs over easy and sausages. It was so good! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The pancakes were steaming hot and fluffy and the sausages were really plump and juicy. Excellent. Recommended, if you're in the area---give Teddy's a try. Cash only, but there is an ATM inside. Parking lot always has plenty of parking.

I came back for another breakfast. Got the huevos rancheros this time and it was just alright. Don't think I'll be ordering it again but I'll be back to try other things on the menu. The service was great as always.

CASH ONLY!! Food here was homemade diner style. Cheap and yummy! Service is also fast overall, a locals hidden gem. There's also a parking lot! Inside is very busy and feels like you're in a movie.

Teddy's Cafe looks like an old diner, which I can appreciate. I like diners. I always feel comfortable and welcome and this place does that as well. It's real casual. I don't know the history but I assume the owner is into model cars because they are everywhere. The decor is a bit scattered and dusty. It kind of feels like someone's living room. I was seated and the server took my order quickly. I ordered a club sandwich, and if you've read my other reviews that contain bacon, you know I like my bacon burnt. Well, I did have to send my bacon back because it wasn't even crispy, but the second time was the charm and my sandwich was really good. The French fries were okay. Not under cooked, but not crispy either. I only ate a few of them. I had to ask the person at the counter for my check and paid there because the server didn't come back. All in all, mediocre. Will I go back? I don't know. If I'm in the area I might. It's not close to me and the experience wasn't good enough for me to go out of my way.

Casual attire, casual dining. I absolutely loved this place! It brings you back in time to that inviting, comfortable, cozy feel. It was busy but the service is still fast (so be ready to order, etc., they dont play around! Lol) the staff are very quick and accommodating. Seems like this is a family owned business, loved everyone we interacted with. Warm & welcoming. Say "yes" to the coffee they serve when you first sit down. Brought me back the days with my grandparents and parents. It was good ole fashion coffee. Yumm. The food was delicious!! From now on, this will definitely be a regular "go to" spot when we are in the area. So happy we stumbled across this place, ended our Valentine's weekend so perfectly. Simple & Sweet.

Country fried steak (beef) scrambled eggs and some really good potato's the gravy was spot on.

So this is my Second time here in two weeks and I tried a different plate the "chile verde" rice, beans and chips, you won't be disappointed, it's authentic food from Mexico, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, I mean all of them, the cooks and waitresses, highly recommend.

Came here for breakfast after taking a red eye and landing super early in the morning. This was one of the few places open that early and we got a standard breakfast. Food and service were good and what you would expect from a little diner. It had an homey vibe and one thing to note is that hey only take cash. Overall not bad

I have been visitIng teddys for quite some time and I I'm never disappointed. It's just a neighborhood Café with good food at a good price. Everything is always yummy and it's comforting. Cash only can't beat the prices. Steak is always delicious. Char broiled meat. fluffy eggs, good potatoes, nice sourdough toast. If you want a decent homemade tasting grilled hamburger. this is the place to go. ask for onions. Nice fluffy pancakes. I recommend Teddys for breakfast. The prices are amazing. You can take your whole family here without breaking the bank.

Cash only! All items are reasonably priced for the location. We came for breakfast while there was an egg shortage, but Teddy's café didn't charge us for eggs. Yummy American diner food ordered the chicken fried steak. It was freshly fried and crispy. Comes with potatoes and eggs. Welcoming servers and also outdoor seating would definitely be back for another breakfast meal.

We split the Los Cali Brekkie burrito which features sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese, French fries and a house made Sriracha aioli but we substituted the cilantro aioli. The filling of the burriot was super soft and mush but it worked. There was a guy out back frying up fresh donuts. I was instantly so glad we chose this spot to celebrate our anniversary because it was the perfect setting for a romantic date night. Now, let's talk about the food! Everything we ordered was delicious, with the exception of the Korean aguachiles, which we probably could've skipped. We also tried the bluefin bibimbap, oysters, and the oh-so-tender short rib that practically melted in our mouths. But the most unforgettable dish was also the simplest: the Korean fried chicken. It wasn't necessarily something out of the ordinary, but it sure tasted like it. The perfect crisp, flavor, and seasoning had us eating every last piece right down to the bone. Our server also made the experience even better. She gave us some of the best recommendations and were incredibly attentive and friendly throughout the entire meal. We absolutely loved this restaurant and are already planning our next visit!

The Mulberry is a Korean spot, but no tabletop grills. Across the street is another Korean place. Mulberry serves dinner Wed-Sun. The menu is kind of "greatest Korean hits", including a few charcoal grilled items. The drink menu is pretty extensive. It's a smallish space with both indoor and outdoor seating and a darkish, festive atmosphere. Here's what we ordered: 1) Korean aguachile--flounder in a cold kimchi broth that was partially granita-like. Refreshing. 2) Fried chicken wings. Pretty classic. Supposedly half plain and half soy-garlic, but they were pretty similar. A nice sweet chili sauce on the side, along with some pickled daikon and other veggies. I like a sweet glaze directly on my wings, but these had a good crunch. 3) Chilled acorn noodle. With greens, toasted nori and a jammy egg. Cooling, but the greens were a bit harsh for me. 4) Savory egg souffle. Nice but nothing out of the ordinary. 5) Spicy braised black cod. I was worried it would be too spicy but actually was very mild, possibly tomato-based sauce with nicely braised daikon and a side of slightly pickled napa cabbage. 6) Grilled beef short rib. Delish! More like a hangar steak than short rib. Came with a dipping sauce, coarse salt, lemon and a little salad with a pungent dressing. 7) Hotteok a la mode. A caramelized cinnamon "crepe" with toasted seeds and vanilla ice cream. Delish. They also had a strawberry bingsu (Korean dairy-based shaved ice) that sounded good, a collaboration with Korean Ice Co. down the street. Note Mulberry claims it's a no tipping establishment, but adds a 20% "fee" to your bill. Overall a nice meal, on the pricey side. I do think I prefer Japanese food more, but Mulberry is a good introduction to Korean.

I was so excited for…read moretwo of my favorite cuisines to come together in an intimate dance between the vibrant flavors of Mexico and the deeply complex taste of Japanese food. Here are some improvements that could be made: 1. I have no problem paying for a quality meal, but the prices were slightly off from what seemed adequate. 7 dollars for chips and salsa but 18 dollars for 4 yellowtail handrolls is just one of a few examples of an interesting price discrepancy. I will say the yellowtail handrolls were delicious! 2. Flavors and dishes on the menu were slightly misleading. We ordered the Osaka burrito but got a deep fried chimichanga, it was a little heavier than what was expected from the panko encrusted description (just put Osaka chimichanga). The tomatoes in the slaw were saved by their mango friends which balanced out the flavors enough to eat the entire dish. The abundance of salt in the tomatoes drew out too much moisture causing some unwanted sliminess, and made them so sad I felt obligated to sign them up for therapy. 3. The cauliflower dish is such a great idea, but the flavor of the cauliflower overpowered all of the other components of the dish. If the cauliflower were fried as much as the burrito was with a healthy amount of achiote seasoning, and the 4-6 pomegranate arils were actually a robust pomegranate sauce drizzled around the dish, it would be a 10/10 veggie plate. I will say on a positive note, the service was great, and the waiters were so nice when we were disappointed with the food. They took back our dish with no hesitation and took it off the bill no problem. If you are out on Sawtelle, looking for a good vibe, and don't mind opening up your mind to some new flavors, then Hermanito is a great option.
