Honestly, the food here is just OK. I think they are creative with their pastries and there are some solid options for lunch but I find the execution of the dishes a little basic. Plus, with the competition in DC you've gotta innovate and Ted's has sort of stayed the same. I think there has to be a way to innovate without turning your back on the classics. Pretzels and Beer Cheese: pretzel is extremeeeeeely greasy. Beer cheese separated sonit was sort of an oily mess and flavors didn't mesh. Tomato soup: is good...but nothing you can't make at home. Grilled cheese: is good...but nothing you can't make at home. Reuben: AMAZING! Our service, however, was impeccable. Tayelor was awesome! I also love that they let you call ahead to get on the list which dramatically decreases wait times. Overall, good experience but more excited about other offerings in the neighborhood. read more

It has been one entire month since I went to Ted's Bulletin and I am still talking about my great experience there. I went for breakfast and order a French toast plate with eggs and hash. Came here for multiple events and every time was a pleasant experience! The breakfast is served all day (!) and each meal is truly "rib sticking." My experience at Teds was beyond AMAZING! We were visiting from California. This place has a 1940's aura with a diner bar feel, newspaper menu, and old school tv sets bringing the ambiance together in a unique way. As we sat in our booth Mary Poppins played on the screen behind us. I ate the chicken and biscuits with cheesy grits on the side. Let me just say those were the BEST cheesy grits EVER!!!!!!!!! The chicken could've been tastier in my opinion but nothing jam couldn't fix. Did I mention this place makes their own pop tarts that will force you to give a dirty look to the pop tarts on the shelf in a grocery store and ask your mom how come did she NOT make pop tarts from scratch? I've been coming here for years and the food/service is always pretty consistent. One thing though that people should know about - this place uses the compostable containers when you get things boxed up. They did not tell us this and when my girlfriend went to heat up our leftovers, you guessed it, the imitation plastic container fell apart and the meal was ruined. I'm not sure if the servers are even aware, but if they are, they REALLY should be telling the patrons so this doesn't happen. Very unfortunate. But otherwise, Teds is great. read more

I've never been here before but decided to come because I've heard great things. I got the Ty Cobb salad, and it was amazing. When you come here ask for Dwon, best server out there!! I have been here several times for Ted tarts and I have to say the food has always been out of this world delicious. The two stars are unfortunately for the service. On numerous occasions when I am at the dessert counter waiting to buy tarts it's as if the staff walks past desperately trying not to make eye contact or to acknowledge customers. It's pretty strange because it happens anytime I come here. So I stand awkwardly waiting for someone to finally come over and assist me in my tart addiction. It's amateur hour. read more

While visiting the DC area, my wife and I met up with some local friends of hers for breakfast at Ted's. I had been wanting to eat here because I'd heard good things from a guide book (and Pinterest), specifically about the home made pop tarts. The atmosphere of this place is amazing. I love to style, look, and feel as you walk into the entry way. There is a 'main room' where most people sit, but the area when you first walk in, is a very cool, classic looking 'business' bar (is the best way I can describe it). Ornate greens, browns and blacks remind me a 1930's Chicago. And the TVs they have set up playing current news, are actually newer tvs placed inside a 1950's looking television set (including the foil over the antenna). You can sit at this bar (first come, first serve) or wait to be seated in the main room. While you wait, you can check out the pastry case of today's pies and, of course, those home made pop tarts. For our meal, we sat in the main room, in a brown booth that was plenty comfy. Everyone ordered their breakfasts and each seemed to enjoy what they ordered, but I can only speak to my meal: NANA'S BISCUITS AND SAUSAGE GRAVY, 2 eggs, and hash browns. The eggs were fine, nothing special. The hash browns were nice and crispy. But the winner here were the buttermilk biscuits smothered in that peppery sausage gravy. The biscuits managed to stay crisp on the edges so you get a little crunch as you take a bite. This meal took me back to Christmas morning when my mom would make us this exact dish. Fantastic. Oh, and let's not forget those Home Made Pop Tarts! Yes, we ordered one of every flavor. And all were super tasty, but a little too sweet (even for me, and I have a legendary sweet tooth). The 'fruit' based ones were the best, with the more 'chocolatey' ones coming last. But they're still really fun to try! But get one to split so you don't have to go straight to the dentist after.... Overall, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and food at Ted's, as well as the service (which was good, nothing that stands out, but still good). I plan on going back, and would definitely recommend it if you're in town. read more

Kind of a neat looking diner type place, with really good food. Everyone at our table enjoyed what they had. I had the cali club and my wife the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Both were really good, and very large portions. We also tried the deviled eggs for an appetizer, which were awesome. Our server was Tavon, and he did a great job, and was very accomodating. Experienced wise It was not really okay. The server is very nice and attentive to the guests needs. Food wise the food okay, but the tartar sauce us the best. But the downside of this restaurant is the front desk people, they are not welcoming and we waited 45 minutes before we can eat. even though we have a reservation. Also We really feel DISCRIMINATED in this restaurant, all the white people are seating in nice and comfortable area, not like us they put us in a corner where people keep on waking back and forth. Just no. I'm well aware that delivery isn't as good as dining in and COVID is affecting this. The fish and chips - well the fish and coleslaw was OK. The fries/chips were clearly a mix of raw fries, the fries from the last order, and the fries from the order or three before that (weirdly, those were the best ones). The fish is the only reason it's not one star. The side of biscuits and sausage gravy was a McDonalds's biscuit and some milk gravy that, at one time, had shared a refrigerator with some sausage. The side of sausage was two hockey pucks. One charred, both made of sawdust. WIsh I'd just gone with IHOP. Same or better quality, 1/3 the price. Oh yeah and the cheese grits - gritty grits that relied on the cheese to make them creamy and delicious. They weren't either, they were just overly cheesy and oily. read more

Having lived near the original location on Barracks Row in Capitol Hill when it opened, I've been going to Ted's for quite awhile now. I've been to this location on 14th Street a few times now, and it definitely maintains the quality of the original. This is a much bigger location, and when I've been before, it has sometimes been a bit loud in the dining room, but on my most recent visit (a bitterly cold weekday evening during the partial government shutdown), with over half the tables empty, the noise level was much quieter. The food quality is good and the portion sizes generous, Ted's is good at churning out a wide variety of upscale comfort food, and their desserts are always worth saving room for. I have always had excellent service here, friendly and attentive, but never feeling rushed. read more

There was very little wait to be seated when I arrived. It was a Sunday at around 7pm in February. The food came out in a timely manner. It was good Cooked well and to specification. Portions are large. The milkshakes are GREAT. I recommend the caramel macchiato shake as the best yet. The homemade poptarts are a must have. What made this resturant a five is the ambiance. The star of oiur breakfast meal was the hash browns; feels hard to find them these days with all of the breakfast potato variants but they nailed these. Their "Ted Tart" play on pop-tarts were good, but the flake-to-filling ratio was a bit low for me.
