I will say that out of the locally owned and operated coffee businesses in the greater Sacramento area, "Temple Coffee" has been one place that withstood the test of time ever since their first location opened back in 2005. Jump forward to the present day and Temple actually has a total of 9 locations (as of mid-2026). Many of which are in Midtown/Downtown Sacramento but have also ventured out to the suburbs (Arden, Fair Oaks, and Folsom) as well as one location in Davis. Their primary focus is simple and that is offering good vibes, great service, and exceptionally well-prepared coffee with an amazing ambiance and atmosphere for new and regular customers. The location I am reviewing is directly on 16th St. and tucked in between P & Q St's in the heart of Midtown Sacramento. They have been operating here since mid-2019 while the previous tenant (also a coffee shop), "Insight Coffee Roasters" once stood from 2016-2019. This spot is ideal for many as it is within close proximity to Capitol Park and directly across the street from Fremont Park. Additionally, there are many government buildings, restaurants, and public transit all in the general vicinity. I actually came here for the first time during the morning on Sunday 5/10/26 at around 10:00am. Parking can be a bit tricky to find and keep in mind that all streets have meters so make sure to look at all signs when parking close by. The exterior layout offers a nice little courtyard that is perfect for the more comfortable Sacramento days while the interior has an ample seating area complete with a very clean layout, natural wood tables and chairs, live plants, trendy artwork, and an ambiance where you can use for work, studying, or just enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. I did want to point out that this entire block was built up around 2014-15 as it really added a sleek upscale look to the area. This includes food/beverage options on the bottom floor with condos/townhomes directly above that. Like many cities, Sacramento has seen many evolutionary changes over the past few decades with the right zoning and strategic planning with its infrastructure. As for the coffee/tea drinks, they offer all the traditional favorites while showcasing some of their unique options. I will say that they have some of the finest tasting espresso drinks I have ever tried and there's reason why people keep coming back here. During my most recent visit, I ended up trying the "Matcha Rise & Shine" which was a different take on the traditional matcha beverage. This used sparkling grapefruit soda combined in the matcha latte and topped off with a sliced grapefruit. My lady went more traditional as she ordered their hot "Vanilla Latte". Both of our drinks were ready in just a couple minutes while the overall taste and consistency was exceptional. All in all, this "Temple Coffee" hit all the high notes for me. The location all in itself was very inviting while the staff were friendly and accommodating during our experience. Best of all, if you're an early bird (like myself), they open as early as 6am and close at 4pm seven days a week. With respectable hours, a reputation for excellent quality, and an inviting coffee experience, I am giving the 16th St. Temple Coffee a perfect and inviting five-star rating. read more

Just disappointing service and quality which is remarkable when there are a half dozen other options in a few blocks. Not sure why I gave them multiple chances. The location must keep them open. First time ordered a specialty drink, that was fine, I misunderstood what it was but I should gave asked. Second time tried a decaf black that tasted over roasted or maybe just cheap beans, had to add a creamer at the office. Third and last time, ordered a hot decaf with cream and sugar, woman at the counter clarified hot, repeated it back to me and then the order came up iced and the woman who made it was annoyed when I clarified. She offered to remake it but at this point I'll just go elsewhere. I had high hopes but left disappointed. If one of the half dozen local shops isn't up your alley, there's a starbucks 3 blocks away and you know what you're getting. read more

This Temple location isn't my favorite, but it is reliable! The staff are friendly as usual and willing to help, and the chai i got was not too sweet while still being refreshing. However, I think this location isn't as welcoming due to its limited space; finding a comfortable seat is more difficult than at other locations, as there are fewer options. at this point, I'm lost on which location is which because they all say Midtown but last week on December 31 I had the opportunity of going to the one in center downtown. I'm not sure the address 28 something I don't know 29 something seemed like it was hidden however I was very pleased that there was not a line service is great I was in a limo for my son's birthday and was worried because the limo driver could not park. It's cozy and quaint, and you'll pick up that vibe from the moment you walk in. The line moves fairly fast, and you'll find the menu online, on the wall, and at the cash register. Coffee items are a tad more limited here, but the staff is great at making thoughtful suggestions. Price points are pretty much the same here, as they are at most coffee spots, but the sizing is smaller here. Enjoy the coffee, but avoid the pastries. We both found the pastries to be bland and dry. The final Temple location that I haven't visited yet! I feel like I've just collected all of my Pokémon badges. We came by to pick up coffee on a weekday morning and it was still pretty packed inside. The shop is on the smaller side, not as much room for a line if it gets long, but they're still super efficient here like other locations with their ordering system so you're bound to be in and out in no time. Unfortunately we must have come on a bad day because so many of their beans were out of stock or very low stock. It was a smaller shelf to begin with so even if it was full, there weren't quite as many options as you would see at K Street or S Street for example. That was a bit frustrating since restocking our Temple beans was the main reason we drove all the way downtown, and I didn't want to get the kids back in the car just to drive to another location. We ended up just getting the last bag of Three Pillars and the new spring Wonderblend instead. As for drinks my husband got our favorite Thai tea and then I tried the Matcha Sunrise from the seasonal menu. It was very refreshing! I thought it may taste watery or too carbonated but the amount of matcha cream was perfect and it made the drink super smooth and very matcha forward. Customer service was great here, as always. Very polite and very accommodating to their customers. They have a few outdoor tables if you're in a group and a lot of barstool seating which is perfect if you're by yourself trying to get work done or just want to people watch on the sidewalk. The sun doesn't quite hit that side in the morning but I imagine that makes it a nice spot on a cool crisp morning. Not sure I'll be back to this particular location since we usually frequent another coffee shop when we're in this block of town, but I'm still a Temple fan regardless! read more

This location closes a bit earlier than the other Temple Coffee locations (4PM here versus often 10PM at other locations), but the staff are friendly and the environment is great. We got the Matcha Latte with oat milk and Mexican Mocha which were both very good. The Matcha Latte does not come sweetened so I asked to add vanilla sweetener so just a heads up! The service was great, very helpful employees and the drinks came out as soon as we paid. We got the drinks "for here" but when we were leaving we were able to get to-go cups. This is a very cute little coffee shop to get work done or meet up with some friends. You will have to find street parking but it is not too bad. I loved everything about it from the moment we parked the car on the street (no designated lot) and I looked out the window. The front patio and face of the biz is so cute and inviting. Inside, the staff are warm, friendly, and welcoming. They have coffee samples out for guests to try. I ordered an iced matcha latte as it was a pretty warm day. It was really good. First time at this location and it is well situated. On a busy street, there are good parking options in the surrounding blocks. The outside patio is quite a nice size with tables and a bar with a view of Fremont Park across the street. With the awesome warm weather these days, it was even more inviting to sit outside an enjoy the scenery. Inside the store are a good number of table sets, a bar area at the window, and a community table for finding what suits one's needs. Temple was a coffee shop I kept seeing pop up on Social Media over the last couple years. I figured this was just another coffee shop that everyone had all the rage over, yet when I saw it was voted Best Coffee of 2019 in Sacramento Magazine I finally made the time to check it out. There are six locations, four in Downtown Sacramento, another in Davis, and the last one in the Arden Arcade area. When the location off 16th Street opened I had to go ASAP being only minutes away from my job. They've chosen a great location in Midtown Sacramento because they are just across Fremont Park where the Farmer's Market is held every Tuesday during the warmer seasons of the year. Their coffee shop is aesthetically pleasing with their modern woodwork touches. Patio seating is available, a long wood bench, bar top high tables with umbrellas near the sidewalk, and smaller patio tables near the entrance. There is also a "No Smoking" sign displayed on the patio, which is a plus!!! Inside they have a window display of assorted pastries such as croissants, loaves, and muffins. Merchandise is also available for purchase: coffee tumblers & mugs, brew apparatuses, filters, and water bottles. Plenty more items to purchase on their website. The seating arrangement consisted of small tables to either sit alone or large enough to enjoy with a couple other Temple Coffee lovers. :) My friend and I both got Vanilla Latte's since this was our first visit. The staff were all very friendly and patient helping us decide what would best satisfy our taste buds. As simple as a Vanilla Latte may sound its subtly sweet notes along with the caffeine did the job! Coffee shouldn't be something filled with tons of sugar, otherwise go enjoy a coffee flavored See's Lollipop. Prices here are what you'd spend at Starbucks, if not a little cheaper. I have two words for you: Oat Milk This is what sets this location apart from the rest of the Temple fleet. Management has FINALLY listened to customer feedback and given the people what they want: rich, creamy oat milk that pairs perfectly with espresso. Let's just hope the other locations start stocking it too. Speaking of location, this one is in my favorite area of Midtown so I couldn't be happier. I wasn't a huge fan of the Insight that occupied the space before, but that was mainly because of the previous staff. Here the employees are really friendly, greeting you upon entering and even providing a little table service when your cup or plate is empty. I like a neighborhood coffee house vibe, so I have a feeling this location will soon be my go-to favorite. The coffee is the same stellar java you're used to in any of the other Temple locations. I did learn recently that I could request different espresso than the classic Dharma blend for a change, so that was refreshing. There was also a fresh stock of vegan pastries in the case (trust me and go with the coffee cake donut). Delicious. Bonus for the chalkboard art materials they supply you with.
