This location is a bit smaller than the one I'm used to downtown, but it's just as cute and the staff super friendly. They also have ample outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. I tried the spiced apple chai latte here for the first time and loved it! It tasted like an apple cider in latte form (steamed with milk). A bit on the pricey side at $6.45 if I remember correctly, but it was really fun to try and the perfect holiday drink. I loved the giant marshmallow they plop on top! I also had the lemon lavender muffin. It was good, but got stale really quickly, after just a few hours. I really liked how I could taste the lavender--my biggest pet peeve in baked goods is when a flavor is advertised but you can't even taste it. The texture was as if it were gluten-free. I'm not sure if it was actually GF though. It was around $3.50. Temple can be pricey but in my opinion it's worth it for the quality, especially for people like me who only purchase handcrafted beverages once every few weeks. Not the smartest establishment to frequent if you are a daily coffee/tea drinker, but for a once-in-a-while splurge, I don't mind treating myself. I always feel welcomed and never rushed when I'm at any Temple location, and their unique and tasty drinks will have me coming back for more. read more

Temple is another one of the really great coffee places in sac. While most of its locations are in the central city, they do also have locations in Davis and the Arden area. Besides great coffee, they are also located in a nice area next to Fremont park. They also have pretty good indoor seating to hang out with some friends or work on your laptop. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic they have shuttered the seating but they still have really the coffee and the good customer service. On the last few times I've visited here, it has generally been in the afternoon before closing so it hasn't been busy. Hopefully they are still seeing a lot of people in the morning because it would be a shame to lose a place like this. Temple also boasts quite a bit of beans for sale. While you can find them in some local supermarkets, I prefer to visit these locations so I can also have an excuse for picking up a drink at three in the afternoon. This place really hits all the checkmarks for a 5 star, location, quality and service are really top notch! read more

I tend to go for their lattes so that I can just sit down with my cup and enjoy the weather outside on their patio. This laser visit however, I tried a iced latte to go so that I could walk around Sacramento and take in a beautiful spring day. Their iced coffee is just as amazing as all their other beverages. Primarily because their coffee in general is roasted so perfectly. You can definitely tell that they care about where their coffee is sourced from and they ultimately allow the coffee to speak for itself in terms of flavor. I also love their selection of teas, especially when served in your own individual tea pot to enjoy. This also where I come when I'm craving a lavender short bread cookie. The inside itself is very quiet and pretty but the service sucked. Went in earlier today and the cashier was extremely rude and seemed like she hated her job and very clearly did not want to be there. I was disappointed because I've been to other temple locations where the service is great but it was so rude here, I was almost in shock. I stepped away and was taking a picture of some of the nice plants and didn't hear the lady call my matcha out and then she rudely continued to say out loud "are you gonna want your matcha" and rolled her eyes, like obviously, I just paid $7 for it. So, I live in the neighborhood and have been here many, many times. I understand that the service industry is tough, and Covid did a number on many businesses, but regardless, I'm often left either bewildered or feeling awkward when I go here. First off, most of the baristas are very friendly, but some seem disinterested, and a small number are plain unfriendly or rude. I often get the impression that I'm not cool enough for them to show interest or make eye contact, or that they're even doing me a favor by making my coffee. Are they unhappy with their job? Or have they simply bought into the hype of their marketing? Secondly, I understand that each business has to make a determination on their hours, but a 4pm closing time in that space is just too early. Starbucks on the corner closes at 5, and Naked Coffee across the street closes at 6, and they seem to be doing fine. This is exacerbated by the fact that the cafe effectively closes the outside patio space much sooner than the 4pm closing time. For example, just today I was sitting outside when, at 3:15(!), a barista essentially kicked me out of my seat, telling me I had to leave or move inside because they were putting away their patio chairs and umbrellas. So for now, I think I'll be making another place my "home" cafe. read more

Loved this location! Came to work here for a few hours with a friend and loved my whole experience. The staff is all great and really friendly. There was ample room to work (inside and outside) with great wifi. We came in the morning until about noon and the outside was perfectly shaded the entire time. For drinks - I got a matcha latte with oat milk, no sweetener and it was delicious with the perfect balance of creamy and earthy! I will definitely be coming back here again soon! read more

I was recently in the Sacramento area for work and had a 3 hour drive back home to Fresno, so I wanted to grab a cup of local coffee before hitting the road. I texted a friend from the area who recommended Temple, and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did! My coworker and I each had EXCELLENT drinks. We both like lightly sweet drinks, and much of the menu at Temple is more coffee-forward, so the barista made suggestions for us and they were great! My coworker had what the barista called an iced "Fake White Mocha" (vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, espresso, milk and ice) and I had an oatmilk iced vanilla latte. The flavor was perfection! I really regret not buying some of their coffee to make at home, it was so smooth and rich and the vanilla sweetness was perfectly balanced - not too sweet, just sweet enough. The atmosphere inside is really nice (classy looking, with lots of warm wood and penny-inlaid floor and counters) - I'm sure it will be great to hang out inside once Covid is behind us. Outdoors there is a large area to sip and study, too. Clean, well-appointed, ungendered restrooms are available, also. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely return. read more

Whenever I'm in Sacramento, I go to Temple where they roast their own beans and feature single origin coffees. In addition to cow's milk, alternatives are soy, almond, and my favorite, oat milk. Each location has its own vibe, but they all feature knowledgeable baristas and staff, great baked goods (yes, gluten-free options are available), and a clean, comfortable seating area. Some have outside seating, too. The music can be a little loud for intimate conversations, but it also prevents people from overhearing what others are talking about. They sell a variety of beans to take home, and the best part is they can talk through the flavors and origins of the beans. There is a sample pour over for tasting available, too. When I learned that Insight, a local coffee shop I love, had left this location, I was saddened that the most convenient (to me) of downtown coffee shops was no more. Thankfully, Temple stepped in and even stepped things up, with a slight remodel, more seating and the tasty Temple coffee every Sacramentan is now familiar with. I can't say I was excited to see a new Temple in Sacramento. With so many locations there are becoming the local "chain", for better or worse. But they do bring it in terms of quality drinks made from quality beans. The staff is always nice and this location is so much less crowded than my usual go-to on S St. I was annoyed that the previous Insight had a lock on the bathroom but they have opened that up as well. Sometimes it comes down to location, and this Temple is a much-needed coffee shop facing a downtown park. You could try the Starbucks half a block away, but why when you have Temple? read more

I got talked into waking up at some ungodly hour of the morning (a Saturday morning at that!) to attend the grand opening of Temple Coffee's 6th location! It was actually a fun time and worth the wait, thanks to running into an old friend Regina W and meeting a new friend Katie M. My other early bird friends, Michelle M and Alex T were 3rd and 4th in line, and Michelle got the "worm" in the form of a $10 gift card! The first 100 (or was it 50?) customers received a beautiful 12 oz white MiiR insulated tumbler ($25 retail), cutely adorned with a bike and "Temple Coffee, 16th Street." That, in itself, was worth it, and also to try their new matcha tea latte, straight from Japan, and a 16th Street exclusive. My first time to try oat milk also, recommended by Regina and Alex. It did give the latte a very creamy and thicker consistency. I ordered mine with just a little sweetness and the barista made it perfect! I also tried an iced Americano which was just bold enough in flavor. Will try it hot next time. I had a fresh and flaky bear claw from Estelle's Patisserie. I wish this coffee shop was all over the Bay Area! When I visited a friend in Sacramento, he would not stop talking about Temple Coffee. I managed to stop by on my way back to San Jose and oh my gosh, the hype is real. The shop is very clean and hipster, which I loved! Very aesthetic. This location was a lot smaller than the Temple I quickly visited with friends but no quality was compromised. The cashier and the barista were both sweet and provided excellent service. I ordered a cappuccino and a slice of the banana bread loaf, which were both delicious! - The foam on the cappuccino was perfect and the espresso had a great balanced flavor as well. When I ordered my cap, the barista asked me if I wanted a darker espresso. Not sure what types of espressos they have but whatever he gave me was perfect! - Banana bread loaf was also moist and tasty. Definitely better than it looked. Would highly recommend! I'm from out of the area and I'd never been to a Temple Coffee and Tea before. I was searching for the glory that is known as coffee while killing a few hours. Driving teenagers to and from concerts nearby requires caffeine ya'll! I discovered Temple on here and I'm happy that I did.They're clean, inside and out, very friendly, ask if you have questions, give you options (I honestly didn't know there were options with macchiatos), explain the options, and then you're done in just a couple minutes. There was also a wider selection of tea than I've seen elsewhere. I did go on the evening so there weren't any lines while I was there. I know this can't always be true. I sat outside because it faces the park and there were several people walking dogs. I'm a people watcher and I adore dogs. This was a great spot for me. I've been slowly becoming a Temple fan since Temple opened their 16th Street location. I was a big fan of the Insight that previously inhabited this space, especially because they offered matcha and oat milk. Other Temple locations do not offer oat milk or matcha (yet), but this one does. They use Califia Barista Blend oat milk and Mizuba matcha. I like that you can get the matcha hot or iced, sweetened or unsweetened - I love an iced unsweetened oat milk latte. Like other Temple locations, they offer an array of pastries. read more
