I can't say enough good things about this place! The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were great, and the staff went above and beyond. I came in to try a few things off the menu and asked for a drink recommendation. It wasn't quite my taste, and without hesitation they comped my next drink which ended up being perfect so I ordered a second. The cabernet is delicious here and the pours are generous. The beers come in a very attractive glass and they have specialty cocktails that I intend to try next time. My salad was huge and tasty with pecans and feta cheese. My friend added shrimp to hers and they were both great. We finished with the beautifully presented cheesecake! The dog friendly patio is lovely with a view of all the Main Street action. Tip: you have to go inside to order and they bring the food out to you and they have serve yourself water. Beautiful place with friendly service and delicious drinks. I got the Mai Thai and my husband got a box Manhattan. Both were well made and came presented beautifully! Only complaint from the evening was their hours were listed as open til 10 on yelp and Apple Maps but they actually closed at 9 (on a Thursday) so we felt bad and rushed through our 2nd round of drinks. First, I grew up in the restaurant business so know something about it--which is why I don't own a restaurant--it's hard. I live on the hill over this place and have been watching them work on it for what seems like well over a year. I visited their first week. I'm excited to welcome a new business like this and wish them great success. My first visit was in the early afternoon when it was the café. It switches to a bar after 4pm, an interesting dual-use idea I hope works for them. I had a chai and avocado toast. The chai is "house made" and had some interesting flavor notes that were unique and delicious. Best chai downtown. The avocado toast was very good, but not quite as good as Palm & Boy Coffee on Main St. It's not served with steel flatware, but rather a plastic/compost fork and knife (which I had to ask for as they didn't provide one when served). The bread was well toasted, so trying to cut through it was flimsy plastic utensils wasn't pleasant. I had to eat it with my hands, which was a bit awkward. The furnishings are light and beachy, but oddly uncomfortable. I first tried sitting in their wicker clam chairs. I guess these were designed for very small people, because I had a hard time finding a comfortable spot, and my head kept hitting the top. So, I moved to a sofa near the fireplace. Again, this looked good and might be "Instagramable," but the seats were uncomfortable and felt close to a wooden bench. So, so far, both seats looked great but didn't perform in practice. I eventually moved outside to a bench, which was pleasant (but missing a back pillow). Palm St. is quiet, and it was a nice sunny day, so all good out there--except for their two signs banging the hell out of a tower heater in the corner. Luckily, it wasn't evening, and the heater was off, but...they need to either move the heater or anchor the signs from the wind. The staff was super friendly and helpful in the morning, although it was clear many of the nighttime staff at bar time hadn't ever worked in a restaurant before. For example, they served the food with no plates or flatware, they didn't tell us where they were, so we had to find them on our own. They're still learning the menu, but that's expected this early on. The music. Well, they need to rethink it. For the morning crowd, they play this too-hip club music you might hear in a bar trying too hard to be cool in LA or Manhattan. You're in Ventura, a laid-back surf-rodeo town. Embrace our identify and ditch this music--especially in the morning. No one wants to hear that when drinking coffee at the beach. And the interior is LOUD. There was a manager apparently training new staff who was talking louder than necessary, but then again, the kitchen extends into the eating area, so there's just lots of noise. Most of the interior surfaces are hard, so it's going to be noisy. Better to sit outside, weather permitting. I returned with my husband that evening to experience the "10 Tigers" bar. The place was packed--good for them! You order your drinks and food at the counter, which for a place portending cool wasn't. I'd be better if they had QR code menus or tablets to order at the table. There was a line, and no one likes a line when they're trying to relax on a night out. The crowed was very "date night." No judgement, just that way. The drinks were good, but not as tasteful or sophisticated as described in the drink menu, which bordered on Shakespearean in its ingredients list. We started with a Mai Tai and White Tiger Margaritta. Like the furniture, they looked good but tasted only marginally better than a regular bar as the sophisticated ingredients were difficult to spot. Foodwise, we ordered lamb sliders, Spanish potatoes, ceviche and fish tacos. The potatoes' tomato sauce was wonderfully rich and potatoes cooked well. Fish tacos were good. The sliders where juicy, but there was something pedestrian about the Persian sauce, which lacked punch. I think we enjoyed the ceviche most of all: a nice simple dish with just the right mix of flavor notes--although the fish was a bit overwhelmed by the sauce, which made it difficult to savor (or even see, being a big jumble of green sauce...better to toss the ingredients first and lay the Hamachi on top, IMO). Bottom line: shows promise, just has a few things to work on to make it sing. Give it a try. read more

It was my first time here today, and I'll definitely be back. The ambiance is unique inside and outside, with real plants, pictures and TV that doesn't show sports for a change and instead there are Asian classic movies with subtitles. I wish they'd run a fireplace (or at least put some electrical candles inside of it), that would add to the charm even more and attract more people. Baja tacos were amazing. The fish inside the crust was so juicy and tender you'd think it's a black cod! In many restaurants, you see that vegetables and fruit for a topping are chopped like "whatever", but here they do put an effort into every detail that food is presented in very ascetically pleasing way. I love this spot! It's so cute and they have a ton of outdoor seating that's super dog friendly, so I got to bring my pup. My favs on their regular menu are the chipotle shrimp (to die for) and the watermelon beat salad, the farmers market salad is also pretty good! We got to try their new happy hour and enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, mushrooms, patatas bravas (unlike any patatas bravas I've had before but still tasty!), and the garlic shrimp. My favorite happy hour app was probably the spinach artichoke dip. For drinks, we loved the GingerCat Margarita from the HH menu. I thought the Rincon Beach Collins was a bit too sweet. Happy hour is 4-6 Weds-Sun so it's great to have the option on weekends! Holy moly, so thankful we have this gem of a restaurant and cocktail bar added to the Ventura scene. We came by chance on 6/12 soft opening night and it's already a tight operation. This is an order and pay at register and then take number to desired seating place which I love. Drinks: ordered the Swizzle-Me Timbers and the Churchill Sour. Both were well balanced and beautifully served. Food: ordered the rajas tacos, baja fish tacos and the spanish patatas bravas. We devoured everything. Food was delicious . We ordered the braised short rib with garlic mashed potatoes and carrots . I give that 9/10, if it,was piping hot it would be a 10-10 .. The ChickenFrances which is chicken breast with lemon sauce with capers , spinach and mash potatoes was delicious as well . I give it 8/10 , the ends were slightly overcooked. Cocktails were good too ! Bartender made my favorite drink ...Eastside . Service - was great ! I give it 9/10 only because you have to go inside and order first and then find your table after they give you a number . You get your food pretty fast and service staff were very friendly and helpful. Ambiance was wonderful . Comfortable tables and chairs are on the porch and inside . While the place is hip and cute, I have a few issues. One: not much for gluten free. The fish tacos looked amazing but they were breaded and fried. The girl at the counter recommended a salad. Sorry but I want something more hearty than a salad sometimes. I opted for the patatas, while good, it needed salt and was not something I would return for. We went for dinner Sunday night for the first time and were very impressed! It is so nice to have such a cool, charming and gorgeous new spot in a terrific DT location. Decor is a chic mix of southern veranda and Cali beach vibe, coming together in the restored home previously known as The Palm. It's a fun, upscale and upbeat space that makes one feel glad to be there. And that's before trying the amazing cocktails, and delicious, creative dishes. I don't know what took so long to make it happen but it is a delightful addition to our DT dining scene for sure. I hope it is a smashing success. Two of us went for drinks and dinner on a Tue night so no problem getting a table. Options include inside, on the porch or outside by fire pit. We grabbed a couple of menus, got our table and I went back to the desk and ordered, get us waters/silverware/plates. Their hybrid self serve system works well. Staff all extremely friendly--everyone likes their job!. They brought our drinks quickly followed a short time later by our food. I had the old fashioned and my wife had the cornstar martini-both were delicious. We shared a beet/watermelon salad--it was very big. No lettuce in this one--just a huge amount of beets and watermelon in a delicious herb vinaigrette. The flavor was sooo good I can taste it now--two days later. My wife got the lamb sliders; small as expected and desired and incredibly tasty. At the reco of several yelpers I got the fish tacos. They were large--it would have been ok to eat just one with my share of the beet salad but I downed them both. I must say these may have been the best I've ever had (and I fish and eat my fresh catch all the time). A nice big piece of moist flaky fish, lightly fried with the thinnest batter. You could really taste the fish--no grease or oily flavor. The toppings were delectable and it was wrapped in a thin blue corn tort that somehow didn't fall apart-magic. We will be back to try other things on the menu but it will be difficult not to get the same impeccably prepared items we just ate. read more
