Omurice ($23)- generous portion of perfectly fried pork with an omelette on a bed of fried rice; the star of our meal
    Daniel L.

We walked in on 7/4 and were 1 of 6 tables with Asian-presenting folks (always a good sign). We were promptly seated and ordered within 2min, receiving our food 5min later! Food- genuinely impressed for the $ - omurice $23 was impressively executed and so generously portioned - salmon tapas $18 was a nice refreshingly chilled addition - sweet potato fries $11 were so crispy and complimented the mayo-based sauce amazingly Only downside is music is a bit loud for intimate conversation, but we appreciated how casual it made the place feel. Will certainly try to be back on a future NYC trip

Tenjou is fine if you need a mid-quality lunch spot that hits all the Japanese staples without hitting the bottom of your wallet. Everything we got was on the spectrum of decent to not bad, but I wouldn't make a special trip here. - Omurice: Well-made but bland. Came with onions, chicken, mushrooms, green beans, and pork, but nothing tasted special - Chicken Katsu: A bit dry - Tuna Crispy Rice: Not spicy enough and overpriced for what we got - Salmon Avocado Roll & Spicy Salmon Roll: Fine - Fifth Avenue: Get this if you want maximum fish with minimum frills. It had spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, avocado and crispy noodles, and was wrapped with soy paper - Pan Fried Gyoza Dumplings: Oddly burnt. Not good. - Spicy Tuna Gyoza: The ingredients sounded better than the execution

My friend and I dined here for a late lunch. The space was modern looking with light colors and some pops of color throughout. The friend I came with got the Ramen, informing our waiter she has a severe dairy and fish allergy. After she was served, the waiter returned to let us know there was milk in the broth and took it away. I believe this was preventable and am thankful that she only tried 1 spoonful. The waitress tried her best to accommodate my friend by offering a custom made broth, but my friend ended up ordering something else. It was Happy Hour when we went, so some of the smaller menu items were half off. From those options, I selected the Shrimp Tempura Roll. For my entree, I ordered the Korean BBQ Rice Bowl. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was tasty with satisfyingly crispy, light, and tender shrimp. The Korean BBQ beef was mixed with onion, green onion, sesame seeds, and egg over the rice. I thought that the egg would be cooked, but instead, it was raw egg yolk. I didn't mind too much, as I stirred it into the hot rice. The BBQ Beef was tender and well seasoned, with the onion adding a fresh touch. I would've liked to have more veggies in there, since the meat and rice were such a heavy, hearty dish. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and everything came out in a timely manner. Prices were reasonable. I would give this place another chance to try the Mega Ramen, consisting of chashu pork and shrimp tempura.

My college friend and I met up at Tenjou for a quick lunch last Monday. It's close to the office, and I heard good things about their food, particularly the omurice. OMURICE - 23 I haven't had a ton of omurice, but this was easily the best I've had, and pretty affordable too. No fancy rose or tornado shaping here -- just the classic bloop in the middle, sliced open, then flop! The black pepper sauce was chef's kiss, and the fried rice (with onions, mushroom, and chicken) was super flavorful. It also came with a small cutlet of chicken katsu on the side, which was fine but nothing special. GYU BEEF DON - 20 Very large portion, and we ended up with half leftover since we prioritized on finishing the omurice. It was solid but not particularly memorable, felt like something I could replicate at home. The beef was a bit chewy, and the rice leaned a little too sticky. Other than that, it was well-seasoned and the sauce was flavorful. Overall, generous portions and a great lunch spot near the office. I'd highly recommend the omurice alone, and personally, I could probably split it into two meals, which is a really good deal -- only 11.50 per meal! Crazy steal in NYC.

Everything was exceptional. We began with the pepper appetizer and the skewers, both were tasty. And then we had their signature omurice, which we noticed every table ordered. It was the best rice dish I have ever had--the flavor from the sauce combined with the fresh rice was a fantastic combination. I also tried out he recommended ramen, good as well. Regarding service, we were attended to by different waitstaff who ensured we could order promptly and that our dishes were delivered on time. One waiter even reminded me to take a video of the omurice pouring option. As for ambiance, it is perfect for all occasions, whether with friends, family, or on a date.

Decent casual Japanese food with modern decor and good service. Was able to walk in without a res for dinner and got seated on the second floor which had a nice airy feel but stairs were steep. I was optimistic since the first floor was full. Clientele seemed to be mostly 20s. We ordered agedashi tofu, seaweed salad, ramen, and omurice with pork. All items were good so I'd recommend as a casual place for food on an everyday occasion but necessarily destination worthy. Give it a try if you get bored of the usual suspects by madison square park for a quick bite

Amazing lunch deal. $25 for miso soup, kani salad or seaweed salad, appetizer of the day, and either 3 classic rolls or one specialty roll. So delicious. I couldn't finish it- was so much food!

I really like the ambiance, service and food! Amazing!! We ordered the omorice and the fried shrimps

Food wise is pretty decent. Lots to choose from. Spacious and very bright. We came when it was not so busy so staff were attentive. Restrooms are clean and larger than your typical nyc restaurant restrooms

$23 omurice was good value bc it's a generous portion (us 3 split) and comes w katsu takoyaki was also fresh - can taste the fresh octopus and bonito. yellowtail jalapeño with truffle yuzu was also solid Favorite Dishes: omurice, takoyaki, yellowtail truffle jalapeño!

What a nice surprise as we walked into the spacious restaurant with nice decor. It's before noon so it wasn't crowded. Decided on the lunch set - tonkotsu ramen, yakitori chicken and matcha pudding with red bean. Ramen soup hit the spot in a cold winter day. Chicken was tender and flavorful. Matcha pudding was light but had a good dense texture. Highly recommend it for a large group or just individual dining. Looks like there is seating upstairs as well.

I'd more accurately give this a 3.5 but am rounding down when you factor in value. I eyed this place in a prime location on 23rd and 5th next to Eataly and the Lego store with suspicion. The menu was just too long, covering vastly different categories like sushi, donburi, and ramen all on a single menu. Yes it's all Japanese food, but typically good Japanese restaurants focus on just one. This place is filled with mostly tourists too, but I walked by enough times to give in to my curiosity just once. While the place was full on the Saturday afternoon I visited, we were seated right away, got our orders taken, and were served pretty quickly. The omurice was cut tableside and had the right runny texture. The chicken katsu that came on the side was made of what might've been thigh meat which is not my favorite, since I still feel new to eating meat and get the meat ick. But the rice under the egg was surprisingly flavorful and buttery. The special rolls we ordered, one with shrimp tempura, salmon, and tuna and another with spicy tuna, avocado, and cream cheese were served warmer than what I'm used to with sushi. I suppose it's because there were a lot of fried elements in these rolls, but it threw us off a little. All the dishes were not bad overall but two rolls and two bowls after tax and tip was nearly a hundred bucks. I guess that's par for the course for a place like this but I will promptly forget this meal as soon as I'm done writing this review.

First time trying Tenjou and everything was so yummy! I had the omurice and they cut it and pour the sauce on it table side which was really cool. Our server was also very kind and made sure to double check all the ingredients for my friend who is gluten free. She was very thorough & recommended the items that would be safe. The restaurant space is beautiful too!!

omurice is amazing, close to Japan's taste. Rolls are slice of 6, can be better but overall, its amazing!

The spot is special (literally, you head below street level to get in), which somehow makes it feel even more like a NYC secret you're in on. Small, cozy, dimly lit in the best way, and staffed by people who are genuinely warm. We started with the tempura sweet potato fries and dumplings, both of which disappeared off the table fast. I went with the shio truffle ramen homemade chicken broth, homemade chicken chashu, half ajitama, bean sprouts, menma, shiso, truffle paste, and nori and it was easily one of the best bowls I've had in the city. The truffle paste takes it from "great ramen" to "why haven't I been here sooner," and the homemade chashu is so tender it practically melts before you even chew. Five bowls at the table, five very happy campers. Bonus: it's a quick stroll from Central Park, so pair a bowl here with an afternoon in the park for a genuinely great NYC day. The servers are always attentive, ready to answer questions, and quick to refill waters whenever they notice your glass getting low. Food comes out quickly as well. Overall, Kin Ramen is a spot I find myself coming back to again and again whenever I'm craving a good bowl of ramen.

This spot delivers the kind of authentic paitan that reminds you why people used to line up on cold sidewalks just for a bowl. I ordered the Paitan Ramen Deluxe, and it genuinely lives up to the name. The broth is silky, rich, and comforting without being overly salty which is exactly what a proper paitan should be. The bowl comes loaded: tender shredded chicken, seared chashu, marinated soft-boiled eggs, fresh scallions, bamboo shoots, and a sheet of nori that ties everything together. Every topping tastes intentional, not just filler. The texture balance is what really stands out fatty chashu that melts, shredded chicken with real flavor, and noodles that hold up beautifully in the broth. You can taste the care in the soup base; it has depth, not just heat or salt. If you loved Totto Ramen back in the day, this feels like its modern successor same spirit, new precision.
