This review based only on taco tuesday. It seems I really only eat at restaurants during happy hour. I love me a good happy hour. The steak tacos were ok. Not the best tacos I've had. The meat seemed like it was missing something... a little bland. For a dollar they're pretty good. Enough salsa fixes the blandness and they are fairly large. Happy hour margaritas were really good. When aren't happy hour margaritas good? But these were, big, cheap, and fairly strong... just like me ;) If you're in the area on Tuesday and you want to be full of tacos and tequila, this isn't a bad place to go. read more

This place is AWESOME! They have great food! Very tasty, seasoned just right, big portions and great prices! The waitress was very helpful. She was busy with a bunch of tables, but still attended to us rather quickly! We had the steak torta and fries. Pretty good and I like how the meat had a hint of lime which complimented it well. My girlfriend had the chicken fajita which was also very tasty. The rice was good, I would say 2.5 out of 5. The strawberry blended margarita is a must have on a hot day. Not too strong. Came here for the first time today. And the service was HORRIBLE. We were seated at a table that wasn't bussed yet and we ask them to three times. My server, Anna hit me in the head with the plates (after she finally helped us) and didn't even apologize to me.. Can I say RUDE?! Even when I asked her to be more careful, she ignored me! My party ordered 5 margaritas w/ tequila shots and they were fuego. I would give this place more stars but I think they should improve on their customer service. read more

As far as food: "Meh, I've had better." BUT the whole experience was far from disastrous even with a large party dining here on a Saturday night. Which leads to my next observation, it really wasn't very packed. Then again it is next to the very popular Yardhouse... 99 varieties of tequila! Need I say more? Well, considering this is a review I suppose I should elaborate. Food was good but pretty standard for a Mexican joint. I liked the chips-n-salsa bar. Last time I was there was on the 4th of July. The entire shoreline was packed but we managed to get a place in the bar area outside, which I never mind. We could see the fireworks fairly well from where we were and we could sit, smoke and drink. I was pretty much in heaven! Service was ok, restrooms were a nightmare (I am sure you can imagine on the 4th of July), but the tequila...(sigh) the tequila was delicious. I'm a regular here. It's hard to predict if you'll have a wait or not. Some nights it's pretty empty, while other times the wait is about 45 minutes. It's a pretty loud place-- lots of people trying to share their conversation with the entire restaurant. Somehow every time I come there's always at least 3 individuals that seem to be the loudest. Like.. I can still hear their laugh when I'm in the bathroom. It doesn't bother me, but you should know this isn't some quiet romantic spot by the water to bring your date.. unless it's on one of their slow nights. But if it's busy.. oh man, it can get pretty loud. So to me, this translates to.. they have some good-ass margaritas. Haven't tried any, but seen others order it and it looks cool with a little Corona sticking out of it. Queso fundido is yummy here. Chicken tortilla soup comes with a ton of chicken breast cubes, so it's pretty filling. Their carne asada plate is a real deal-- that's probably what keeps luring me back. Service is good-- only had one instance I had to confront the server if I was bothering him by asking for more chips and salsa. I'm almost certain he spit in my salsa after that. haha They validate parking. I think if you're there for less than a couple hours, with validation it's $1. Going beyond the validated time can get pretty pricey, so down that margarita! read more

TACO TUESDAYS!! It's the only reason I come here. They have the best deals for Taco Tuesdays: DOLLAR TACOS!! My cousin took me to this place for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed. The place was packed and there was a bit of a wait especially if you go on Tuesdays, but it is worth the wait! We were quickly seated and greeted by our server who was very attentive and friendly. I love places that serve you something to munch on as you wait for your food. In this case: chips and salsa. Now, this isn't your traditional tortilla chips bought from your local grocery store or those stale tortilla chips that taste like they've gone bad. Nope. This is hot of the stove, freshly fried tortilla chips. They are fried to perfection and perfectly crisp. Plus, they give you this salsa that has just a bit of a kick to get you excited to see what else is in store. My rule of thumb of a good tortilla chip is one that does not break when I go in to dip. That's not the case here, the chip stays pristine and conditioned and the whole thing makes it to your mouth. What I love about this place is that the chips and salsa is on the house! I would think they'd charge for this because it's actually really really good enough to be and actual order. I ordered 3 tacos: 2 fish tacos, and 1 carne asada (just 3 bucks!) I first tried the carne asada taco and it was pretty good. I had everything on it (onions, cilantro, lettuce, and what tasted like a chipotle mayo sauce.) Whatever it was, it was good. But, nothing beats the fish tacos! These are the best fish tacos ever! Take that Hole Mole! Their tacos are much bigger here at Yardhouse. Sorry, not sorry. More bang for your buck! The fish taco was perfectly fried and seasoned with great flavors. It paired well with everything that was in the taco. The slaw had a nice crunchy texture, but with a hint of sweetness to it. Eat this with the chips and salsa, and you're set. You can even ask for more chips and salsa if you want too! To wrap up, Yardhouse is now one of my favorite go-to places for a Mexican fix without breaking the bank. Another dish I'd recommend is the potato skins, and their taquitos. Definitely check this place out, especially during their happy hour and taco tuesdays specials, which yes does include drinks! read more

Long story short: 45 minute wait...impatient family...decided to give Tequila Jack's a try. The food was distasteful. I don't mind shedding a little extra cash on food, if it's actually good, that it is. The food at Tequila Jack's is very bland & mediocre in both taste in presentation. The entrees were priced far too high. This is easily the worst Mexican restaurant I have EVER dined at. I've had fast food better than this. I'm assuming the main attraction to this place has to be the drinks, because the food surely is not anything to entice customers to revisit. This is not a place I would not recommend grabbing a bite to eat at. You will leave highly disappointed and hungry as well. read more

We've been to this place quite a few times but the one on 12/21/19 will be our last. We were 6 in our party and 2 people showed up 10 minutes late - it was noonish and place were pretty busy. Our server wasted no time in 'harassing' us every few minutes, it was truly annoying. You are trying to talk to your friends, order food order drinks etc. We were in and out in 75 minutes and felt incredible rushed - the food was ok but the way our waiter was "on us" was awful. It was very obvious he DID NOT want us to enjoy the food and our friends........if we would have wanted In and Out we would have chosen hamburgers, this is a 'cattle' place........eat, drink pay and get out. DISGUSTING! Used to go there for years, but since they changed owners in July the place just went down the drain. Couldve been just luck, but there was no wait on a Friday night! The restaurant was full of diners though. After being seated our waiter quickly came with waters for everyone. The menu is what you'd expect at a spanish restaurant for the average price. It was St. Patrick's Day so my friends ordered huge 20 oz green margaritas for $10 i believe. They said they were strong and delicious. I ordered the shrimp verde enchiladas that included rice, beans & a corn cake. The plates are huge, so they arent skimping on the food. It taste good as well. The waiters gave very good serves as he continuously checked in on us, filling water cups without being asked. Id reccomend dining here. My family and I had a wonderful experience. I have been to Tequila Jack's several times before. I live in Long Beach. My mother, brother and aunt came to visit me. I haven't spent much time with them since the pandemic. Our visit to Tequila Jack's was our first dine in experience since March. The food and peach margaritas were delicious. We were greeted by Paula. Paula was such a sweetheart. She was so kind. She continued to check on us to make sure that we were okay. She went above and beyond-this really made my Mother and Aunt's evening. If I could give 100 stars I would for the simple fact that Paula put a huge smile on my Mother and Aunt's face. I came as part of the Sunday brunch crowd, and my experience here was distinctly underwhelming. That's what happens when you let your out of town friends pick the restaurant. FOOD: Completely and utterly forgettable. Except I haven't forgotten that their heat-lamp warmed chips were somehow cold. This is your standard Tex-Mex/Mex-Fusion fare, similar to Chevy's. Do they have Chevy's in Southern California? God I hope not. ATMOSPHERE: Sure, it's nice to sit outside. But it's a pain if you have to get up to use the potty to get more chips. So many backed-out chairs to dodge and tables to maneuver around. This should count as exercise. OVERALL: I think my father-in-law wanted to go here for Father's Day or his birthday or something and we skillfully talked him out of it. You should too. Nestled amongst Shoreline Village, here, you get a nice, overall view of the rest of the village, the private boats, and the lighthouse. I stopped by here after lunch to sit and read/sketch a bit, while drinking some wine. Happy Hour started at 3pm, which made many of the items 1/2 off. I got a Cabernet Sauvignon, which was excellent, more flavorful and almost sweet as opposed to bitter. On the house, I was given some chips and salsa, which were toasty and excellent. Admittedly, I didn't order any actual appetizers here, given I was already full from the lunch I had previously. I mostly wanted to relax and sketch a bit, and read my ebook. The service was quite friendly. At the end, the bill came to about $6 or so. The interior is clean, with darkly wooded interior, and roomy. There are also plenty of outdoor/patio seating. It is essentially a bar and a sit-down restaurant. A group of 7-10 would probably fit comfortably here. I would have to come back here again for Taco Tuesdays when I get a chance. read more

I was skeptical at first, as we had wanted the yardhouse but the line was ridiculous and ventured on over to Tequila Jack's. Well, let me say I was pleasantly surprised. Great big beer prices, efficient service, endless chips and a decent price. While not your traditional greasy authentic taco shop fare, if you want a nice sit-down for ambiance and drinks-Tequila Jack's is it! ps. Taco Tuesday is an OUTRAGEOUS deal. Seriously. Well I have to say since my last review (about a week ago) they have really stepped up their service game!!! The hostess (I suspect she's more than just a hostess) greeted us when we came in and thanked us for our previous review. She sat us at a beautiful table and our server Diane is totally on point!!! We are also noticing that there seems to be management wandering around asking tables how everything is and the less busy waiters are keeping an eye out for everyone's needs. WOW, there is clearly an effort for change going on here and we are VERY happy to see it because again...these margaritas are SO GOOD!!! read more

I do not know why, but I always tend to come to Tequila Jack's when in Long Beach. I probably have been 3 out of the 5 times I have come to this part of the city. It is obviously very touristy driven, right in the middle of town and right on the water. But I like it here, they have decent food and sangria for an average price (spent under $20 for tacos and sangria). I really should branch out next time in the city, but there is a good chance I will go back to Tequila Jack's! read more

I originally came for happy hour 9-close but forgot it was Taco Tuesday so it was dummy packed, found seating on the patio. I ordered 2 chicken tacos which was alright, way too many onions, it's ok to ease back a little on those. Then I ordered a shrimp burrito entree, giant pieces of shrimp all through out I was upset about the red rice. WHY are there peas and carrots in Mexican rice?? I usually see that in fried rice but not red rice that's just uncalled for and nasty, the House Margarita goes for $5 and I asked for no salt but the drink itself was ocean water. I ordered a $8.95 blended mango margarita next that was much better. Service was good, especially for how busy it was, our servers never disappeared for to long, they were always within reach, not a long wait for food or drinks. I like Jack's. The setting on the dock has a great sea-port dive ambiance. The food is good... not outstanding, but definitely really good. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Your first impression might be that it's a "poor cousin" to the Yard House next door. Don't be so quick to judge. The food may not be quite up to the level of the YH, but where the YH check-in staff is often pretentious and aloof, at Jack's everybody is as friendly as can be. Even with a wait on some nights, this is a fun casual place to go... especially sitting outside around sunset. It's on my "regular" list of places. read more

The food is not amazing but it is good and the portions are large. The salsa is good and the margaritas are good. And the tacos are good, although they aren't made the same each time we go. Came to Tequila Jacks to have a birthday dinner with my wife and my daughter. I was not disappointed. They took us to our table as soon as we got there. The chips and salsa were great to start. They came and took our order very fast. We got our drinks first. Then our meal which I think came to us quick. I got the carnitas tacos my wife the fish tacos and my daughter the shrimp tacos. For a pedestrian Mexican place, this works just fine for me! We went Sunday night and were STARVING after the lack of food on our flight and in-between. I had the shrimp enchiladas with black beans and they were tasty, not much spice but I can't complain. Our server, Evan(?), was polite and not intrusive.
