it used to be a lot better, food taste (tasted to a fridge old vegetable) food amount was larger amount, they used to have fresh flour tortillas made in front of you (not anymore) NO longer happy hour, NO longer free chips and salsa (as an excuse COVID of course) i always ask for chiltepines (round little chile ball) and I had them now they're mixed with some other hot red pepper chile, flies we're on top of our faces and food! Went here based upon my friend's recommendation that their food is really good since one of their chefs made it on food network. They were busy but we were seated fairly quickly and at the front entrance in their big table near the bar area. The server was friendly and accommodating but I did not care for my huevos rancheros, the sauce was very different and didn't care for it too much. My horchata tasted more watery than anything and I didn't finish it. The beans were different but not bad flavor wise. Everyone else liked their food as we were a group of 5, I didnt get a picture of everything. Don't think I would return on my own when I am back in town. read more

Several friends have been recommending this place for months, and the Hubs and I finally got to stopping in for breakfast after a journey to the West side. It is sort of hidden away behind a McDonalds. If the Hubs had not known where it was, I may have missed it. Weekday at 8:30 we were seated right away in this really festive, nicely decorated and clean restaurant. The tables are awesome with glass tops and cool items underneath. It is hard to explain (obviously) these tables, but I wanted one! Anyway, the young guy who greeted us was sort of not friendly, but not rude... which could have reduced this rating by one star BUT the gal who was our server was awesome washing away his vibe that he had not had enough coffee that morning. I ordered the Chilaquiles, the Hubs ordered the Huevos Rancheros. We are on this kick to find the best in Tucson. Mosaic did NOT disappoint and are now at the top of the list with only one other place which will remain unnamed. The Chilaquiles for me were top notch as they had been prepared the traditional way and were not overly doused in the sauce and still had a kick. They also give you these delicious tortillas that they heat up right out in the main area of the restaurant. We know we will be back to try their lunch or dinner! read more

Tried the newly reopened Teresa's Mosaic and all I can say is don't waste your money. Food was bland and major quality control issues. The ground beef in my enchilada was dark and crusty. A favorite family-owned restaurant on the west side of town that sits on a bluff. With its large picture windows throughout the dining room, it is an ideal location to take out of town guests so they can enjoy the view of Tucson and the Catalina Mountains while enjoying a Mexican feast. The establishment is clean and nicely decorated with mosaic table tops, rustic wooden chairs, brightly colored walls and paintings reflecting Tucson's unique southwestern style. The service is sometimes a little slow, but that's just how things roll in this town when it's 100 degrees outside. The staff are always courteous. The meals are served on hot plates. The food is plentiful and delicious. Chips and salsa with a kick are served upon arrival. Tortillas are made and baked fresh daily at the center of the dining area for all to see and enjoy. I would give this place 4 1/2 stars if I could. Service would have to improve in order to earn 5 stars. However, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson, and I will always come back. read more

The food was good, but the service was horrible. Every single order at our 6-person table was messed up in some way. The chips took 30 min, the children's plates didn't come plain, there were beans on my plate where i told them I had an allergy (and they re-plated the dish rather than making sure there wasn't anything in the meal- so I ended up sick at the end of the night), my daughter didn't even get her food till the end of the meal. My moms chili rellno had no sauce, and my husband's mole was inedible. It being my mom's birthday, she asked to tell the manager about it. His response was a ghastly "What do you want me to do about it." What I wanted was for the manager to express concern. I wanted him to attempt to make an effort. On top of everything, the restaurant was so loud we couldn't have a conversation and the servers didn't even wish my mom a happy birthday. Love this family run Mexican restaurant. Not only is the food delicious but the service is always great and super friendly. Mosaic is a staple for breakfast anytime I have family or friends in town. We made reservations and they couldn't find them but we were seated right away. We ordered our food and it was out immediately which was good but it did make us question freshness. Then we were rushed to finish. Chips were removed with chips still in the basket. We were told I hope you want your check as we finished our plates. No offer for desert. 4/04/19 - We'll here we are again, our annual visit after seeing our CPA to file our taxes :) We would like to visit more often but we live north and this is a trip for us. Our lunch was great again. I am so sad to write this review because Mosaic used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Tucson. This is my second time in a month I have been and tried it again hoping for a different result. Both of my last two trips the service was beyond terrible. No silverware given until asked when our food showed up. Had to ask for chips and salsa and then was charged $2.75 for a basket of chips. Had to ask for refills on water. Bathrooms did not have paper towels, the toilet paper was sitting on the sink cause the dispenser was empty. Food was good as usual. Have plenty of time and patience if you're going to visit mosaic. The food was good as usual but with service that bad, they should just make it counter service instead. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years (since it's opening). We love this restaurant. Which is a shame I have to write this review about my recent experience. The service today is some of the worst service I've ever experienced. It took our waitress 30 minutes to even come to our table to ask us for drinks. We also requested chips and salsa, which also took forever to come out. We did not get our food out to the table after an hour of being seated. Other patrons that came in before us had already ate and were leaving. After an hour and 20 minutes, only a portion of our plates came out and most of them were the incorrect orders. Three of the people at my table didn't even get their dishes. At that point we had waited so long half of my table didn't bother eating. During the entire service, no one came to check on us, we didn't get the food out in a timely manner, and we actually had to go up and ask for basic items like salsa, drink refills, tortillas (which came included in our dishes and they just neglected to bring them out). And to end this terrible experience, when my dad asked what is wrong, the person who I am assuming is the manager got an attitude and blamed it on short staffing instead of a simple apology. The restaurant was not that busy to review the level of neglect we did and the fact other patrons were served in a timely manner disproves this. And to top of the experience, when my after my dad complained about the service and paid the bill, the man at the cashier just walked away without giving us a recipe. My dad had to take a picture of it so he had a copy. So after almost 2 hours of waiting, half our table didn't get their food, they tried to over charge us, and we received attitude instead of an apology. It's a shame that the new management is so far beneath the standards set by the original owners. read more

In Tucson for the weekend and decided to try this place out as it was recommended by some family members. I'm glad we managed to fit this place into our busy schedule because it was pretty damn good. I ordered the Chile Con Carne and I guess it's safe to say that I liked it because there was literally nothing left on the plate. The steak meat was cooked to perfection and was very tender with lots of flavor. This plate even comes with fresh tortillas, rice and beans. The rice could have used a little more flavor, but not bad. The service is great as well. We showed up around the lunch rush and as you can imagine, this place was hopping! Even though the restaurant was busy, the server did a remarkable job of being attentive to all the tables in his section and kept his friendly demeanor along with a smile on his face. The decor is great and this restaurant sits on the top of a hill with a stunning view of the City of Tucson. Can't be beat! I realize that food prices have gone up and they have adjusted their menu to reflect that- but charging for chips and salsa is just ridiculous. I understand that sometimes orders get lost, but it was completely unacceptable that the server didn't even notice that she lost our order until we had been waiting for food for an hour, she never took responsibility for her mistake, and the manager didn't make things better by offering a comp. A comped meal should be the consequence for screwing up a table's order, and the manager failed to get that right. I also understand that sometimes tables aren't properly set when people sit down, but it shouldn't have taken 4 requests to get silverware and napkins. No matter the quality of the food, I will never return and I recommend against this place because they have awful customer service. read more

The worst restaurant experience I have had in years! We were seated at a table in a high traffic area that was elbow distance from where arriving customers checked in. Since the restaurant was busy there were many people waiting for tables and they mostly milled about our table, talking in loud voices to be heard over the din in the restaurant, and when they moved about to let the restaurant staff through, they bumped and jostled me and my chair. When I complained to the staff nothing was done. Nothing like putting someone in a bad mood even before the mostly bland food was served. Came by for my lunch break from work. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes. Was never once greeted or acknowledged. Bartender took orders for the people around me and never even offered a menu. As someone who works in the industry, I'm aware that even if you're busy, you still acknowledge your new guests. I ended up just walking out. The bartender even looked at me do it and just turned away. This place was a disappointment before closing. And turns out they still are after reopening. LOVE the Mosaic Cafe! The tables with awesome whimsical tiles under glass and classic Mexican decor sets up for a warm and casual ambiance. They have the BEST fresh salsa - addicting! We enjoy going for breakfast (although lunch and dinner are great too). I like the green Chile shredded beef - it comes with beans and eggs any style (except no poached). This isn't in it's a hay day. Wow, this food needed help and the service needed just as much. I ordered the Alphonso which included "steak", pork, and a chili. The steak wasn't steak it was a cheap thin stew meat with no flavor, pork so thin with no flavor and the chili was like a wet diaper. I like this place, and i go because it's terribly convenient for me, since I live on the west side. Their breakfast is delicious and they're known for their juevos rancheros. I personally love their menudo. It's probably the thing I order the most on their menu. Their ceviche is good but it's a little pricey for how small the serving is. It's served in a martini glass; it's not tiny but I've found bigger servings for the same price elsewhere. I still order it of course because I love ceviche. My husband loves their tacos and enchiladas. Pretty much everything we've tried there is great. The only thing I wish was that they had better micheladas. Theirs could use improvement, but I do still order them. If you're looking to eat somewhere because of the micheladas, this is not the place, but they do have them if you really want one with your dinner. While you're here definitely try their salsa. I love the spicy one but it's too spicy for some of my friends. Their salsa is great though and we have friends who will go here specifically just to pick up salsa for their dinner at home! read more

I went in this for this visit I tried three of the different soups. The albonsigas soup was pretty good but cold. The tortilla soup was really good. The other soup with shredded beef and potatoes was excellent. It was definitely my favorite. The Fresh Tortillas were out of this world I really love Fresh Tortillas. I tried the prickly pear Margarita I was not impressed. I also tried the Cadillac Margarita and it was pretty good.
