Mark Terry (owner) and his wonderful team great take care of you and the goods you want to store and entrust to them. This business consists of many employees working there for the newly 2 decades I've contracted with them to store my household goods. After my mother's dementia and later Alzheimer's diagnosis, it was determined she needed to live with me. However, she was an independent woman who believed she would soon be able to live alone and she insisted we store her household goods. So, in 2006, I contacted Terry Moving & Storage for assistance. Those guys showed up early, helped mom and me complete boxing all her goods and took everything back to their warehouse where they inventoried each piece and documented which container it was in. They were patient, kind and soft with mom and worked like our yearly harvest was in to get everything done in half a day. Sadly, mom's health deteriorated and she never lived on her own again. She passed in 2017. Between 2006 and 2022, Mark Terry and his entire team have been so generous with their time, attention to detail and safe transport of many of my family members' goods, including my own. My sister, nephew and I have all used them for moving assistance and storage needs. I've lived in 4 homes in 16 years, always using them to move and store my goods. Just last week they moved all my household goods and what was left of mom's from their warehouse in S. CA to my new home in Arizona. Mark put my mind at ease when he told me that they now move out of state and my goods would remain in his company's possession until released into mine. No 3rd party carrier would be holding me up for more $$ at the end of the line. The team that transported my goods and moved me to my AZ home were quick, courteous, helped me find special items, and placed everything wherever I directed. I was so apprehensive because I've never moved out of state before, but these guys were terrific! Moving has never been so easy. I am sorry to say goodbye to all the men who have told me stories of their children and families over time. We came to be on a first name basis. When i called to pull something from storage, Mark, the warehouse manager, would review my inventory list, find the vault and have it opened with the item(s) I wanted out and waiting for me. He was patient and helpful whenever I wanted to spend a little more time perusing the vault for anything else . When I wanted to add something, he would size it up over the phone and figure out which unit it would fit in so I wouldn't have additional expenses whenever possible. If you want your items handled with care, quick turn around time and personal attention from a friendly team of hard working guys, look no further. UPDATES BELOW... I have mixed feelings about my experience. I requested a quote and unlike other companies, I felt like I was talking to a local office and not a call center. They didn't have a fancy website with stock photos and guaranteed low prices, so I appreciated the more personal feeling. They scheduled an in-person visit a few days later unlike other companies' phone or virtual consult. The rep showed up, walked through my house, gave an estimate of the number of hours for the move. I also got a quote for packing but I ultimately did my own packing. I used a Yelp voucher so that reduced the price slightly. The estimate was based on three men for eight hours. Four hrs to load, 30 min drive time (doubled to 1 hr), and 3 hrs to unload. The hourly rate was a little more than other companies, but I ultimately went with Terry Moving based on a recommendation and my experience up to that point. After confirming my move date, I was charged 10% by credit card. A few days before the move date, the balance was charged. There are some reviews about whether it was a charge or just a hold. It was a charge and that's what I was told. The day of the move, they said they'd be there between 8am and 8:30am. They got there at 8:15am. One of the three guys was about 15 minutes late while I was doing the walkthrough with the other two. And then they started moving stuff. Overall, the team was great. They were friendly, professional, and hard workers. We had to deal with street sweeping so that took about 5-10 minutes to move the truck. They took a break for about 15 minutes around halfway through the loading. They had to take off the refrigerator doors to get it out, which is somewhat common. I left clothes in dressers, which they wrapped in plastic and/or blankets. At one point I didn't know what to do because I was just standing around. They finished loaded after about four hours, so right on time. Drive time to the new house was as expected. When we got there, we did a quick walk through, and then they took a break for lunch... about 30 minutes. Then they started unloading everything. I had a couple heavy items (pinball machine, treadmill) and the team moved them down into a basement without complaint. They unloaded everything and put everything back together. During the unload, they took a short break of about 10-15 minutes. The whole time I just helped point out where to put stuff. They reassembled everything, and they finished up at 4:15pm. And then the least pleasurable experience of the day. One of the guys had paperwork for me to sign, and there was a billing form. He calculated the total cost for the move based on 8.5 hours (4 hours load, 30 min drive, 30 min drive time doubled per CA law, 3.5 hours unload). That was 30 min more than my estimate. There was a bit of back and forth trying to figure out how much I owed. In the end, they said I owed 30 minutes at the hourly rate and I didn't think arguing was going to be a good use of anyone's time. Later, I found that everything unloaded was generally in good condition. There were a couple small issues: 1) The refrigerator doors were put on incorrectly. The guy used a power screwdriver to screw in a hinge cover screw into the hole for the electrical ground, so the hinge cover wasn't attached properly and now the screw for the ground wire won't stay in the hole because it's been stripped. He also lost one of the screws for the hinge cover. 2) Many of the smaller book shelves and cabinets have removable shelves with the little pegs that stick into the holes on the side of the shelves. Many of those little pegs were lost in the move. Yes, I can probably get a bag of them at Home Depot or a similar store, but my cabinets all have different types of pegs. I don't want to have to deal with that right now. Overall, five stars for the start-to-finish experience, the friendly and hard-working crew, and the fact that there were no major problems and no major damage to either house or any stuff. Minus one star for the billing issue. It doesn't feel right that I had to pay an extra 30 minutes of labor considering they took a couple breaks and a 30 minute lunch. The load, travel, and unload times were right on estimate. I was basically paying for their lunch and breaks. Minus one star for reassembling the refrigerator incorrectly and the lost shelving pieces. UPDATE - 10/20/20 (Parts of the original review removed because Yelp limits the length of the review): The owner, Mark Terry, reached out via phone and email. Like I mentioned at the top, that's one difference vs working with a large chain with an 800 number and a call center. Mark resolved the billing issue and offered to fix the other issues I had. I appreciate the gesture, and he seemed sincere in that he would do whatever it took to make me happy. That's the type of company I would want to use in the future. We had our home furnishings packed and stored for 3 months. When they unpacked our things, there were 5 broken pieces, one was broken and then wrapped. 4 lampshades are damaged. A cushion on a set of 2 Kravit couches is missing, probably put in the trash. Shoes were thrown into boxes, clothes dumped into the bottom of wardrobe boxes. When we met with Mark, he had the audacity to say, 'most of it went well!' I am beyond upset about the damage and the missing cushion. We cannot use the couch at all now! Trying to find a great moving company online is almost impossible. Reviews are generally all over the place, and you never know who to trust. When I went with Terry Moving & Storage, I had to hope the 5 star reviews were legit and the 1 stars were the exception. I am happy to say the 5 stars are LEGIT, and I am adding one to the list. The entire process was smooth, and they were very patient, answering all my questions. Julian, Vinni, and Patrick's crew were all-stars. They moved our stuff under the estimated time and treated everything with great care. They went out of their way to help us with our potted plants (they made a cool makeshift plant carrier out of a wardrobe box) and even moved some large items that we needed to sell into our garage so it would be easier for pickup. They covered our newly carpeted stairs to protect them and were great with our fragile items, especially the TV. To top it off, because the guys were able to move us under the estimate, we'll be getting a refund for the difference. If you're looking for quality moving - you'd be hard-pressed to find better! We are doing a full scale remodel of our condo and after researching Terry M&S, I decided to give them a try. I'm sure glad I did! We packed most of the home ourselves but left most of the kitchen and some heavier items for them. One crew packed and the next day another crew moved the entire home to their storage. Great care was taken with all of the furniture and fragile items. The crews, both moving out and moving back in after three months, were very professional, courteous, hard working, efficient with their time, and willing to do whatever we asked. In reconciling the final bill, I felt two credits were owed to me to help offset the final bill. I called the office and the owner Mark called me back. He said that there was an error on the bill and not only did I not owe him anything, he still owed me some credit and processed it immediately. Our world is in short supply of honesty and integrity. I've had my share of movers who did not meet expectations. Not so with Terry Moving and Storage. I moved locally, and my condo was just under 1,000 square feet. Lawrence, Hope and Kenny showed up on time - no calling the office to find out where they were! They immediately got to work moving my belongings out, taking care to wrap, protect and secure my items to prevent damage or breakage. They were quick and efficient and friendly. When it came time to arrive at my new destination, they actually got there before I did! The guys unloaded the truck quickly, and followed my instructions on where to leave items. I worked with the moving team at a job site last week in Santa Ana. We were on a tight timeline while we set up for an estate sale on top of the client moving. We never advise doing these at the same time but the client insisted. So while the client did not line up the movers to work in separate rooms while we the estate sale company prepped, my team and Terry's team had a powwow and came up with a fast moving plan. They did an excellent job moving and also helped the client with her lack of preparation for her move. They were so overly accommodating to what seemed an impossible situation. In the end Terry came and personally met me on the job site to make sure everything went ok. My understanding from our mutual client was that the fees were affordable. Terry takes his company very seriously. He is on top of any issues that arise and fixes it quickly. The moving and estate sale industry is SLAMMED these days. Terry's Moving and storage handled our move from Southern California to Arizona and I can' say ENOUGH GOOD THINGS about this company and their staff. The owner of the company visit our home and walked our house to provide a quote and complete instructions on how to prepare for the move and what was included. Our move had some special elements which included a small art collection (15 pieces), a corvette and solid wood and leather designer/custom furniture. Mark invited us to his facilities so we could see how the car would be loaded on to the semi and he assured us our electronics and art would be professionally packed. Prior to the move his personally called to make sure we were ready and to confirm our move details. The day of the move his crew arrived and WHAT A WONDERFUL JOB THEY DID. Everything was labeled and packed with care and they provided us wardrobe boxes. They packed EVERYTHING...art, appliances, patio heaters and for our customer/designer furniture, the items were wrapped in blankets and then shrink wrapped in plastics. Once we were loaded, we drove our vehicle to their loading facility and my husband was able to drive his car onto the semi himself. Everyone in the warehouse was friendly, professional and by the end of the day we felt like we were part of the Terry Moving "Family". We met our driver and he gave us his number and he confirmed the time he would start his drive the following morning. On the Arizona side, the unloading crew was professional, helpful and at the end of the move they walked each room with us (including the patio) to make sure all of our furniture was placed as we desired. Why you would state that you did not move us is simply bizarre. Edit 4/5 Mark, while I appreciate that you are trying to make your company look good, every time you post about how you "tried to make it right", just makes me angry. I am not an angry person, and I am not accustomed to leaving bad reviews. In fact, this is the only bad review I've ever left on any platform. Everyday I go out into the living room and see what your people did. Our things are piled into one big section of the room. As I mentioned before, the tv stand with the drawers facing the walls, mislabeled boxes, cashmere sweaters that were just thrown to the bottom of boxes, and all the things I touched on in my first review. I do not want a lot of people in here moving stuff around after the fact, while I'm in a wheelchair. It's not right, and it would be a HUGE inconvenience. I would give anything for everything to have been done correctly the first time, but unfortunately, that's not what happened. We found this company through a friend who moved last year and had a good experience. Scott came to our home and then provided a timely estimate for our move. I appreciated that every time we had a question about the move he responded the same day, usually within an hour. Finding the right moving company without having experienced the service can be almost impossible and that is the risk. Reviews can be hit or miss at times as well. And my experience with other moving companies in the past have be subpar at best. This time I definitely tried to due my diligence online looking through many reviews and calling a dozen companies. My challenge was to find the right moving company that provided prompt, efficient, safe and professional care for my furniture and personal property. Terry moving CRUSHED it from and my family. My movers were Julian and Jose, These two were PHENOMONAL - They just had a "yes we can do it" attitude to all of my requests. The communication between themselves was clear and concise, They wrapped all my furniture with the proper supplies to protect all my furniture and took the proper time sand measure to deliver a great moving experience. Yeah, you need a solid reliable mover for your stuff. Terry's does quote a higher rate per hour, but this team really worked hard and fast. So, a lower rate doesn't mean a lower price. The other 2 movers I looked at did have lower rates but look at the negative reviews. Not so with Terry's movers and Jim gave me an accurate estimate and correctly explained my questions and any possible concerns. If you're planning any move, much less a long-distance move, then you understand the terror of finding a company. This was my situation recently in a move from SoCal to Oregon. Having experience the worst kind of move years earlier when it seemed nearly every one of our possessions was brutalized, I was willing to consider almost anything BEFORE hiring a full-service moving company. I investigated U-Pack and Penske trucks and packing services and every other possible combination. Then, tiring of the effort, I read the reviews on the big van lines. Stephen King couldn't make me any more frightened. They are all bad. Among the ads we received for moving companies, I received a postcard from Terry Moving and because it was a Lake Forest address (near our soon to be sold home) I simply drove down to their office and walked in the door. Mark Terry was warm and very open to any question. I told him straight out that while he seemed like a nice guy, he wouldn't be the person driving the truck or packing up my stuff. He didn't blink an eye. Instead, he walked me out into their spotless storage facility and then gave me a tour of one of his equally spotless - and very new - Freightliner semis. While not completely convinced, the bid for our move was reasonable and Terry's willingness to work with our schedule was exemplary. Remember, this is at the height of the Covid-19 craziness. Fast forward a couple months to moving day. The crews couldn't have been nicer or more respectful of our belongings. They were solid people who made us feel very comfortable. Our furniture and artwork was packed with great care. And, even though we are more minimalists in terms of stuff, this move wasn't completley uncomplicated. They were also responsible for a boat - on a trailer. The payoff to this story is the condition in which our things showed up in Oregon. Not a nick ... on anything. I'm not exaggerating! Still looking for that terrible rub mark or gouge on a special piece of furniture, but none so far. Amazing.
