I really enjoyed my experience at Terzo! I came sigh my family to celebrate my brother's birthday and we had made reservations ahead of time, which means we were seated immediately upon arrival. We ordered the pita and hummus along with calamari for appetizers and we were not disappointed in the slightest. The hummus was rich with flavor and texture (there was even a hint of garlic) and the calamari was amazingly fresh. For our entrees we ordered the Grilled Niman Pork Loin and Braised Mary's Chicken. Both meats were tender and cooked just right. And for dessert we had this delicious almond cake with ice cream, and they added candles on top to celebrate my brother's birthday. Overall food and presentation was great. Service was a bit slow but we never felt neglected. I would love to come back! read more

Terzo is a cozy Mediterranean restaurant in Russian Hill, with food comparable in taste to Kokkari but executed in a more subtle way. My boyfriend and I came during Restaurant Week and were blown away by the dishes. The food was right up my alley and I have absolutely nothing to complain about. We started with the chicken spiedini, hummus and pita, and grilled calamari. The chicken spiedini came with two skewers of perfectly grilled chicken, onions, and chunks of doughy bread drizzled with an amazing cilantro sauce. The portion was bigger than I expected and it was like no chicken skewer I've ever had before. The grilled calamari was definitely another highlight, maintaining its tender texture without being rubbery. The seafood sat on a bed of beans with a light sauce that let the calamari shine. To round out the small plates, we ordered an extra hummus and pita that is definitely a must-try. Their pita is house made and baked to order, with a fragrant blend of herbs rubbed on top that really makes it unique and delicious. For our large plates, we ordered the grilled pork loin as well as the salmon. Both proteins were cooked perfectly, with sides that complemented them well. The salmon had the best crispy skin I've had on a piece of fish in a long time, breaking way to the flaky inside. It was served on a bed of green basmati rice that brought a slight Asian feel to the dish. The grilled pork loin came with braised cabbage and spaetzle, a heartier dish that reminded me of German cuisine. To finish off the amazing meal, we had the flourless chocolate cake and the apple crumble. The size of our previous dishes were just right, leaving us with room to enjoy their incredible desserts. The chocolate cake was rich without being too sweet, and the house made whipped cream even had me spooning up dollops when I'd usually be scraping it off. The apple crumble was piping hot out of the oven, with a light crumble and apples tossed in brown sugar and cinnamon. It was a simple but perfect ending to a more complex meal. Terzo has definitely become one of my top favorites in the city and I will without a doubt be back for more! read more

Went here with the family after my dad found this place on yelp. It is a medium sized restaurant, with friendly staff. The menu is made for family style with small and large sized dishes, which rotates daily. We tried an array of things. Some of the most notable were the mozzarella salad, very yummy. The meatballs were also very tasty with the polenta. I also really liked the salmon large dish which was very well cooked and melted in your mouth. The home made egg noodles were very good as well! The desserts we tried were the panna cotta and the flourless chocolate cake, both of which were yummy. The staff here was helpful, though not as attentive at times but it was a busy night. Service took a while, but no worries--we'd booked an early slot after work (6:00), so that was fine. They talked us into dessert (twist my arm, right?) and coffee. No big deal so far. Immediately after we'd finished dessert, one of my friends got up to use the restroom while we sorted out the check. While he was gone, a server came to our table in a huff and asked us to hurry up and leave--they now had a line at the front door and wanted our table right away! It was very strange, to say the least. We were clearly on our way out the door anyhow (and seriously we'd had the check for five minutes, tops). We hadn't been to Terzo in years, but driving down Union St. in SF around dinner time prompted us to drive by. Parking is a pain, but there was a space around the corner so we snagged it - clearly dinner at Terzo was meant to be. Hubs and I shared numerous small plates: Mozzarella di Bufala , Marinated Artichokes & Roasted Pepper, Grilled Monterey Bay Calamari, Sautéed Wild Mushrooms and the Free Range Chicken Spiedini. The only dish that was a bit underwhelming was the Marinated Artichokes, otherwise the dishes had layered flavors that were amazing and complemented each other. We didn't need dessert, but split the warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and 2 coffees. Great end to a great meal. I really like the look and feel of the restaurant, and the music playing last night was great. Thank goodness I didn't have to park, because there weren't any spaces close by even on a Sunday night. I called in about 10 minutes before, and my order was ready when I got there. The staff is really nice and friendly, and I was able to double park and get in and out very quickly. The restaurant inside is really modern looking, but still had an intimate ambiance. So the fam was in town from Asia and we wanted to grab some tapas style food so we made our way over to Terzo in the marina. We were not starving and my parents were still jetlagged so we decided to keep it a small meal. The inside of the restaurant is very warm and inviting with a bar and a view into the kitchen. The dining area is spaced out nicely leaving enough room between tables. They also have a back room which can be rented out it appears to groups for small events. The servers were extremely friendly here and very attentive. We perused the vino list and were able to get a solid recommendation based on what we were searching for and there were plenty of reasonably priced vinos on the list. I noticed that they also had an interesting beer list. Not extensive but definitely some surprises on the list that I have not seen in too many restaurants. After looking through the menu, we decided to focus on the small plates and ordered an assortment of them. Ordered the hummus, steamed mussels, black truffle risotto, tomato braised pork meatballs, and the arugula salad. They provided bread (which you have to ask for apparently?) which was good and apparently homemade so definitely ask for it. The hummus was a simple & classic dish and the pita was quite good. The mussels were actually really good also with the sauce being unique. Definitely ask for more toast points because you will definitely want to dip it in the sauce. The mussels were well cooked and delicious. The black truffle risotto was okay but a bit bland for me so not a dish that I would probably order again. The arugula salad was a nice simple dish and the dressing was well made which was a nice palette cleanser. The meatballs with polenta were awesome with the polenta being a perfect complement to the meatballs which are straight up authentic. It comes out with two but feel free to add one more meatball for a slight charge! All in all, a solid restaurant for tapas. I wish I had tried a few of their large plates but we left feeling pretty full after these dishes. Definitely will be back. read more

Wasn't a big fan of this place. The ambiance was nice and cozy but the food and customer service was so so. None of the dishes seemed to nail it. The calamari appetizer was more like lentil soup with only 4 small pieces of calamari. The calamari itself was pretty tasty but the lentils ruined it for me and so did the small amount of calamari. I thought this would be more like a calamari dish not lentil soup! The only reason why I ordered the calamari was to replace the gnocchi appetizer which wasn't great either. It was way under cooked and too soft. I've had way better gnocchi dishes at other restaurants. For the main meal I asked for the skirt steak to be medium rare and it came out rare. Although it did have a nice buttery flavor to it but I was mainly annoyed that it came out way undercooked. The chicken dish was decent. Not great flavoring but not bad and the chicken was tender. I actually thought the rice served with it tasted better than the chicken. The rice had a nice combination of raisins, pistachios and I believe mint. The only items that I thought were really great were the red wine and ice cream trio for dessert, which neither one had to do with the food! The service was also ok. The hostess weren't that friendly as we entered the restaurant and it took awhile for our waitress to greet us. And none of the staff greeted us goodbye or said thank you as we left either. Overall I'd say, there are plenty of other great restaurants in San Francisco that have better food and service and appreciates your business. Pork Tenderloin with Apple Compote and Cabbage. I don't usually rave about pork chops but this was perfectly marinated, super juicy and extremely flavorful. Paired with its good friends apple and cabbage for the sweetness...happy happy happy. The restaurant comped us with a chocolate pot de creme topped with whipped cream. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly hostess that took us to our table as we were waiting for friends. The place looked just the right combo of modern and warmth combined with classy. Our waiter was friendly and attentive especially since we had to wait half an hour for our friends. We never felt rushed or uncomfortable, he checked in and we did break down and get olives and the hummus. Both were great and authentic, good hummus is hard to find. Finally our friends arrived and the ordering began:) We got the beets, mushrooms, chicken, and gnocchi as our starters and steak as the entree. The starters were all great, the flavors were nice, the combinations balanced. The beets provided an nice acidic choice for the other richer dishes. The gnocchi were very tender, a nice surprise because so many places don't get them right. They were light, fluffy and delicious. The only dish that was disappointing was the skirt steak. It was well cooked and flavored but the steak was chewy and stringy, I literally couldn't chew through several of the pieces. We ended with espresso, which did not disappoint and were going to get the apple crisp but it was taking a while so we skipped it. The tab at the end was very reasonable, we brought a bottle of wine and paid a $20 corkage fee. $75 per couple is great for a nice, fit for foodies dinner. Even though we tried almost everything on the menu that we wanted, I would come back. I love places that don't rush you out and overbook. read more

The most popular dishes of the night were the hummus, meatballs and chicken speidini. The chicken speidini is as good as everybody says it is - juicy, tender and flavorful. I made a reservation at Terzo for when my family visited me from the East Coast. The day of our dinner my family couldn't make it, so I called Terzo to cancel. They told me they would waive the fee. BUT THEN I checked my credit card statement and I was charged $200! I called to speak with the hostess who had told me they wouldn't charge me and she said they would reverse it. BUT THEN they didn't return my money so I called to speak with the manager. He was not only rude, but also indifferent to the burden of a $200 charge for a dinner that they said they wouldn't charge me for. My experience is unfortunate for several reasons 1. I'm out $200 2. Terzo said they wouldn't do this to me and 3. My friend recently ate at Terzo (safely b/c they didn't have a reservation) and had a wonderful experience. read more

The hummus is amazing but the meatballs were tiny (two itty bitty meatballs for the price), bland (completely lacking in seasoning), and not at all good. There was very little marinara so there was no flavor at all - they really needed seasoning and sauce. In the past, these had been much better and I'm fairly certain that they had been much larger. Really wanted to love this place because it was one of the most special days, my family was celebrating an engagement. We called ahead and requested the private room but when we arrived we were seated at the high top table in the middle of the dining room. They had 9 high chairs and 1 stool- said they didn't have any more chairs for us. Bottom line is the food was good, not amazing but pretty good, however the bad service and overall apathy overshadowed what could have been a good experience. Also we told them weeks in advance that we were celebrating an engagement that was going to happen hours before the meal- any other nice restaurant would have added a special touch to the evening to make it more memorable. read more

I've only been here twice but have been very impressed each time. The smoky calamari with lentils is one of the best things I've ever eaten! Other highlights have been the perfect snapper and veg en papillote, wickedly tender and luscious brisket, perfectly on point linguine carbonara, tangy delicious panna cotta with the perfect surrounding of pistachios, flavorful aromatic Moroccan chicken, and a fantastic wine list. All enough to give Terzo 4-5 stars. But add in the beautiful space, the good noise level and especially the wonderful, generous, kind, attentive servers, and Terzo is out-f'ing-standing. Honestly we had low expectations as a few friends told us this place was okay. I didn't care and booked this for my birthday party. We had a party of ten and I'm glad I didn't listen to anyone because the food and service was amazing. I am grateful we had a big group so I was able to try many of the dishes on the menu. Service was also top notch in making sure we always had wine or drinks and food was plentiful. This made for a very fun experience! We had literally 2 of everything on the menu but the stand out favorites were: Tomato braised meatballs-so tender and flavorful. It's a small plate with 3 small meatballs so plan accordingly. It literally melts in your mouth. Fried egg bruschetta-perfectly seasoned and cooked. The ricotta helped to create richness and the bread was crunchy and perfect compliment Fresh fettuccine Grilled Norman Ranch pork loin-juicy and had the perfect clean pork taste. I love the mustard grain butter which pops in your mouth Crispy onions-this was my favorite! So crispy, onion flavored and delicious. You don't need any sauce just a napkin because it is just the right amount of greasy you want for something fried. How Terzo fell off my radar is beyond me. The place was great in every way last evening and by that I mean the service was top-notch and the food was wonderful. I did three small plates and each in its own way was perfect. Whenever I see a plate with sun gold tomatoes I order it. These small, very sweet tomatoes are a perfect counterpoint for an ample serving of mozzarella and toasted focaccia. Next up was meatballs over some very nice polenta. The meatballs were two to the order and tender and tasty; the polenta was thick, smooth and perfect. Finally chicken spiedini with bread, cilantro, chilies and onion. Perfect. The meat was nicely charred and the spicing was just perfect. Terzo becomes a place that will be visited regularly. read more
