It has been some time since I was in a Texas Roadhouse. Used to go to one near me but it closed many years back. So, let me begin at the start of this review. It was my wife's birthday last week and she wanted Prime Rib. We knew of several places but none of them appealed to her, so I went looking. Found a place in OB that served it for Lunch, which was a must. While driving there I happened to notice the Texas Roadhouse off 78. I happened to mention it to my wife (she was driving) and she was surprised there was still one around. I checked their website and found they also served Prime Rib for lunch. We arrived at our place in OB, talked a bit, then jumped back on 78 and back we went. We got there about 1:30. You can guess she ordered the Prime Rib and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. Our server was Magen, who was in her third trimester and she was a delight. We sat there munching on all you can eat peanuts and the best warm, yeast rolls around. The honey butter they serve with it just made them even better. Our meals came. Her prime rib came out as she wanted it. It had a bit more fat on it than she was used to but she said the flavor was good. I have to say this was a 10 oz slice which was a bit less in cost than the 6 oz at the place we were going to go to. My chicken was nice and crispy and covered with great white gravy. One of my sides was mashed potatoes which also came out with gravy. Twice I noticed my tea was getting low so I looked around for Megan. When I saw her each time she was coming at me with another glass of tea. There were lots of people, but the place did not seem too noisy. I looked around and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. I saw that all the servers were talking with their customers to ensure everything was to their liking. This place is not fancy. Dress is very casual. I saw lots of families, so it seems to be kid friendly also. Overall, I have to say it was one of the best meals my wife and I have had this year. We walked out with full bellies and enough leftovers for snacking later in the evening. We will be heading back. I cannot wait to get their BBQ ribs and catfish. read more

Super disappointed. Didn't receive ANY butter with my pick up order even though I ordered extra rolls and paid for extra butter. Also didn't receive my side of fries. Didn't find out until we were home over 10 miles away and tried to call 10+ times but couldn't get ahold of anyone. 1) if you order to-go, make sure they give you butter (especially if you pay for it) 2) make sure everything you order is there (this isn't the first time we didn't get everything we ordered when ordering to-go). I'm disappointed I didn't get what I ordered and that I tipped 20% on a to-go order for them not to make sure to order was fulfilled in full. Won't be dining or ordering here again. read more

Right of the bat this place seems like a outback but once I got in the door seeing peanuts on the ground this place keeps true to the roadhouse feel. Wait was not.ling at all due to the free peanuts. Ashley was our server and she was awesome. She always came by to check on us and even offered to replace one of my sides when I realized their green beans were kind of gross. (Tip: don't get the green beans. They lure you in with the bacon, but it was a gross, soupy mess). People always say "don't fill up on the bread," but it's hard not to do that here because their bread is so good, and sooo fresh. My husband and I both got the prime rib and were both very happy with our choices! The medium rare was cooked perfectly. Try the chili, but skip the green beans. Do not come here if you have peanut allergy. It was a fun environment.. country music, some dancing, fun staff. It's pretty loud in here so it's not a good place to have deep conversations. The restaurant tends to get busy, so they offer a call ahead service. It's not quite a reservation because they can't guarantee you a table at the exact time that you need, but you can call ahead and put your name on the waiting list, rather than doing it when you arrive. I placed an order for the Texas Roadhouse in El Cajon and I accidentally went to the Oceanside one. I told one of the girls working at front that I went to the wrong location and she did not hesitate to call the manager at the El Cajon location. She said that the manager canceled the order and everything will be replaced in the Oceanside location. Bless her heart because I didn't want to drive 42 mins back. Fantastic!! At first my thoughts about this place were if Sizzler and Chilies had a baby and that baby grew up to have babies with Claim Jumper. Very corporate, cheesy, 90s chain restaurant. Do NOT be fooled!! This place is legit! Service out of the 8 or so times I've been here (first time was back in January of this year) has been spot on and consistently spectacular. The quality of the food is beyond what you would a expect to get at a place...well, a place as I described above. Never had to send food back ever. Their salads are dressed just right, steaks are full of flavor and tender AF and of course. FRESH. BAKED. ROLLS. I probably go through about 3 or so baskets before I get one to go home. Wednesdays at this location are a must. $15 11oz Serloin and 2 good (pretty big) sized side portions. Best steak dinner for the price I've experienced in years. Thank you Texas Roadhouse. The ribs are always amazing whenever I come. The fries are good when they're not over cooked which tends to happen later at night. We order take out quite often and I believe it's happened like twice you can taste the burnt flavor on it sometimes. Other than that the food is good. We were celebrating a birthday and it was a fun atmosphere but really loud! We started with a cactus blossom which had good flavor but was breaded more then I thought it would be which made it pretty oily. For my meal I had the 10oz ribeye with a Caesar salad and potatoes with gravy. The steak had nice flavor but was extremely grizzly, I had to cut a lot of fat off. Next time I would definitely order the New York strip. The Caesar and potatoes were just average, nothing too special. Based on the price the meal was a good deal. read more

The only good thing I can say about this place is that the steak was good. It started off with a 60 minute wait that the hostess said would be 20 minutes or so. The waitress seemed not to know exactly what was going on after asking a couple questions having to go ask someone else. She did her best I give her that. When the food came it was all pretty good accept the fact that I was missing a few things like my sides. This has been my third time there and it has been basically the same every time. Having to wait an absurd amount of time every time without being given a heads-up is crazy. Then being told more then half the drinks I wanted to try were all premixed.(All set with that). Don't think I'll be back I can get just as good of a steak elsewhere. With fresh drinks that are worth the 15$ or so. read more

This place is awesome! We have been in for both takeout and dine in. Although Saturdays get incredibly busy, we got on an online waitlist and only waited around 30-40 mins. Our waiter Jacob was very friendly and kept an extremely pleasant attitude despite how busy it was, and kept the oh so yummy rolls coming! Pricey considering the portions. Food was just OK, nothing to write home about. Excellent service, I tried the 16oz Ft. Worth Ribeye, cooked medium, with steamed broccoli and a Caesar salad. Steak was properly cooked, it is just disappointing when I can season and grill over mesquite a grass fed and finished, 30 day aged, dry rubbed ribeye that blows away a $30+restaurant ribeye. Caesar salad was good, steamed broccoli was al dente, cooked nicely. The flavor just wasn't 'There' in the Ft. Worth ribeye. Perhaps one is expected to add a topping, so it is seasoned with the expectations of additional toppings being added? I prefer either a good overnight soaked marinade, or a multiple seasonings rub, that I apply at least 8hrs before allowing it to set and reach room temperature before slapping it on my real mesquite wood, prepared-reached 375°+ temperature, and cleaned cast iron grill. read more

First time coming here to eat. The place is cute, and very loud. I am a steak person, so I ordered a filet, rare. Added sautéed mushrooms, grilled shrimp, with green beans and seasoned rice for my side dishes. The service was on point for the amount of customers in the place. I will say that. The food however....well I expected the filet to be cool since it was rare, but everything else was really cold. Except for the green beans, they were piping hot. I am not fussy so I ate my steak and figured I could reheat the rest for lunch tomorrow. The steak was very tender, but not very flavorful. The mushrooms were good and big. The rice was meh. The shrimp was good. The greens beans were pretty good. UPDATE: after coming back a few times I have to say the place did a complete 180. Everything we order is now on point and the service is great. I think this is my third review of this place. These people give such great service every time. This is the best value out of any restaurant that I've been to. The food is excellent. I specifically want to point out some good employees such as Caitlyn, Cameo and especially Amanda. Caitlyn is smart and everything went smooth as silk with her behind the bar. Cameo is just as reliable. I really appreciate Amanda and some other girls for always recognizing me when I go there. Amanda always says hi to me whether she is my server or not. They have multiple random moments the servers will come together to do a little line dancing a few songs. Its super cute. While my friend and I were waiting, one of the managers, Amanda, came over to say hello and offered us a free appetizer for our next visit with a small take home bag of their peanuts. The ribs fall off the bone but you definitely need a side of BBQ sauce for dipping. The ribs were nice and smokey. I still like Phil's ribs better because it's more vinegary and I like the tang. But the meat is oh so tender here! Hands down the ribeye was to die for!! Cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth!!!! Didn't need any sauce for it...seasoned great! Be prepared to wait if you come on the weekend. They do have call ahead seating and basically they put your name on the waiting list so you dont have to wait quite as long. You walk in and put your name on the list and they hand you a pager that lights up when your table is ready. While you are waiting you can grab some peanuts and chow on them while waiting on your table. You can throw your shell's on the ground without any guilt. If you plan on coming here for the first time register for their rewards and you will get a free appetizer within 48 hours. Then you can get a free appetizer. I heard from the manager that the wait can be very long on the weekends like up to an hour or more. We came later in the evening so it was only about a half hour wait. So plan accordingly. The wait staff were super nice and the manager even stopped by and offered us a bag of peanuts and a free appetizer since he heard it was our first time here. The food was excellent and the service was awesome. We ordered the cactus blossom appetizer which is an onion that has been breaded then fried. Make sure to share with a party of four or more as this will fill you up. They also bring these yummy hot yeasty rolls with this sweet butter. I asked for some regular butter as I don't care for the sweet kind. I ordered the beef tips with seasoned rice and a side of chili. The chili was so flipping good. Some of the best I've had. It comes with onion and cheese. The onions were so freshly cut I almost cried due to it being so fresh! The beef tips were good as was the rice. My sweetie got the 5 ounce sirloin steak and chicken with a baked potato. She told me that was one of the best steaks she had in a long time. If there were a rating lower than one, that is what I would give to this establishment. On a Friday evening, anyone would expect the place to be busy, so as we had a large group (14 people) we called ahead and made sure the staff knew we'd be coming. We were assured they would be prepared and have a large table available for us. Our entire party was on time, however, we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated. When we were seated, we were placed in two different booths back to back so our party couldn't even socialize with one another. On top of that, not everyone fit in the booths so they were made to squeeze two chairs on the end of the booth. At this point, we're already frustrated. Long story short, it took 30 minutes for us all to have drinks and bread. When our main meals arrived (an hour and a half after being seated), the steaks were rare and half the sides were cold. The manager offered no apologies or compensation as we expressed our frustration. I will not be returning to the establishment.
