Tex's is one of the first Atlanta food trucks I had the pleasure of tasting, back in maybe 2010, and I still get excited today when I see they're somewhere that I am going to be. I've had a few different tacos, but I never order without including the Pastor de Puerco.. It's pork, pineapple, cheese, onion and cilantro.. oh if I could just spew curse words right now.. that's how good it is. BTW, you know things taste better when you say things like "Oh yea," and "Mmmm," right? Another tip.. it tastes even better when you close your eyes. You can thank me later. I've also had the pulled pork taco, and it was very good, but I feel like I could find it somewhere else and be happy with it too. The Pastor, to me, seems like a staple of Tex's... and I don't really WANT to get that from anywhere else. My mouth is seriously watering as I write this. I also get their Lime fries on occasion. Want to hear something crazy? I pretty much HATE lime unless it's in the form of Lemon Lime Gatorade.. BUT Tex's Lime Fries? They are the bomb! I can eat those like crazy. They're somehow sweet and salty at the same time, and limey.. which, again, never sounds good to me.. but it works. You know it's gotta be good.. I don't even let lime touch my vodka crans.. eff that. The dudes are awesome, too. I'm not sure which one of them is Tex.. or if it's one of those Hootie and the Blowfish situations where no one is actually Hootie.. or they all are, collectively, Hootie.. that kinda thing. When I found out that Tex's Tacos' food truck would be parked outside our office building in Midtown, I just had to check it out. It was a Thursday around 11:30 am when I went, and there were maybe two or three people in front of me in line. I always try to get to food trucks either 30 minutes before noon or after 1 pm to avoid the longest lines! I hadn't heard about Tex's Tacos beforehand so I had zero expectations. But the first thing I noticed was the priciness of their tacos. $4+ for one taco?!! Hmmm... Nevertheless, I decided to pick two - the Carne Asada and Chicken Fresca. While I considered ordering some of their Lime Fries ($4.25!), I didn't order any because I was told I would need to wait about 10 minutes for them to cook. Unfortunately I didn't have time to stand around and wait as I was on my way to a meeting... =( Luckily, the tacos were served up fairly quickly! * Carne Asada Taco ($4.50) - Per the menu description, this taco is made up of "Citrus-splashed skirt steak, guacamole, salsa roja, grilled onions, cheese, cilantro" wrapped up in a standard (read = SMALL) taco-sized tortilla wrap. They had no problem with holding the cilantro and got that part right. Sadly, what was supposed to be "grilled" onions turned out to to be raw. Ick... I am NOT a fan of raw onions in ANY food. So the steak was not very tender or flavorful and the raw onions threw off the taste of the whole taco for me, so overall it was "meh." I would say it deserved two stars. * Chicken Fresca ($4.25) - I was pleasantly surprised at how good this chicken taco was! This taco contains "Honey-lime chicken, grilled onions, pico de gallo, salsa roja, cheese, cilantro" (NO cilantro for me, of course). That honey-lime chicken was DELICIOUS! I love honey, and it went very well with the lime to provide a unique flavor to the chicken. I don't recall this one having any onions in it (maybe they forgot to put it in?), which was great because it ruined the flavor of my Carne Asada taco. I ended up wishing I had gotten two of these tacos. Overall, Tex's Tacos gets 3 stars for their "OK" tacos considering the prices they charge for one taco. My favorite item from Tex's Tacos is their Lime-Seasoned Fries ($3.50). I love lime-anything so I was immediately drawn to that menu item ... everything else sounded ordinary in comparison. I walked into Woodruff Arts Plaza hungry. Tex's line was the longest, and I figured, "People don't wait that long for bad food." So I gave it a shot and walked away full and satisfied. I agree with everything Allie B. said. The food couldn't have been fresher, and the service couldn't have been better. And those chips! Where have they been in Atlanta restaurants for the past 10 years. Thin, crispy, and delicious with an awesome sweet and salty lime seasoning. Atlanta has approximately 8000 food truck events per week, but this little truck really stands out to me as one of the best values. I always debate what truck is going to have a good portion of delicious food for a fair price. Tex's Tacos wins it for me. Their tacos are HUGE and two will fill a normal person up easily. At $3 each they're a great price as well. My only negative is that I was halfway through my can of coke when I noticed the top of it was disgustingly filthy. I don't imagine this is Coke's fault, but probably where they store their cokes on the truck. I almost barfed when I though about what gross stuff I probably drank down. read more

Now this is a taco I can see myself coming back for. I opted for the chicken fresca. Unlike some people, I love cheese. It's a food group in my world. So I don't mind a taco loaded up with cheese. This one definitely didn't disappoint. It was huge and full of well seasoned meat, fresh pico, & lots of cheese. I can never remember the name of this kind of cheese, but I would happily sell my left kidney to know where to find it. Or I could just, you know, keep ordering from Tex's. Instead of crossing off the items that they were out of, lines formed and every time someone got to the window they were informed of all the items that were sold out. With rain pouring down and putting a damper on fireworks across the city, Tex's Tacos was the only truck left outside Lenox Mall. My friends and I wandered over and hoped we wouldn't be disappointed. A quick glance at the menu already had my mouth watering, but when I took that first bite for a freshly made, super hot bbq pork with creamy slaw taco? I think I might have yelled "THIS IS AWESOME" at the guys in the truck... The lime salt fries were different and delicious, no ketchup needed! I even came back for seconds to try the chicken fresca taco and hot damn was that amazing. I was definitely pleased with everything from food to service. Surprise food truck Tuesday on the film set of Rectify S4. Several options available. Something for everyone to try. I had the BBQ tacos with slaw and a spicy BBQ sauce. It came with two tacos and a huge order their famous line salt fries. Everything was made fresh on small flour tortillas. Each taco was packed full of ingredients and covered heavily with delicious sauce. Too many fries to eat ! What kept them from getting five stars was the quickness in which the employee got flustered with a few big orders and the time in which it took to get those orders put together. The truck looked like it was in great shape and clean. Cleanliness in a food truck is very important to me. I'm all about the street food thing now and was excited to have Street Food Fridays at Atlantic Station today. So many choices! Unfortunately, I wish I had tried the Po Boy from the New Orleans truck or gone to Yumbii's instead of getting 3 tacos from Tex's Tacos. The topping were generous, but the flavor was dull. I had the chicken, pork & beef. I liked the beef best because it had guacamole, but the beef was a bit tough. The chicken was a bit dry and flavorless. It is cool they have slush puppies though. I got to try out Tex's Tacos at the Street Food Thursday Event at the Woodruff in Midtown for the first time. I knew it would be good when I saw the line was so long! I got a couple tacos, Chicken Fresca and Carne Asada - both were amazing! I also got a side of their lime fries and they blew my mind! Seriously, I have a love affair with fries and these were probably some of the best I've ever had. I have admittedly become a food truck junkie and Tex's Tacos is my favorite in Atlanta. Favorites: The Pastor de Puerco, Lime Fries (these are legendary), and the Chicken Quesadilla or regular Quesadilla. Their slush puppies are also fun and delicious but it's been so hot this summer that they rarely have them for sale anymore - the machine has trouble keeping them cold. The line for Tex's Tacos can be long at times but they get the orders out quick and the prices are some of the best of the food trucks. We tried this at Chalktober and we were very disappointed.After seeing the food truck with the name and the line we thought it maybe pretty close to the real deal.It seems Ga lacks greatly in the Taco game.We drove two hours from Ft Benning to this festival and hoped we would finally get some good tacos.The marinade on Carne Asada is sweet and tangy more like a jerk marinade and ruined it for me completely.Would I say it was horrible no but also not worth the long lines.My kids got quesadillas and took two bites and wouldn't eat them.My husband had the fries were ok but wouldn't get them again.Maybe our standards are to high after being near Austin for two years with their food trucks but even the crazy taco fusion trucks were amazing. read more

I love this food truck with the passion of a thousand firey seas! I am a taco freak, I could eat them daily. I'd give them another star if their tacos were a little cheaper, because they are some of the most expensive on a truck for sure. That said, I still love them. Oh the cheese, the creamy, melt in your mouth cheese....I don't know what it is about the cheese on these tacos, but I find myself thinking about it often. The carne asada is pretty much the stuff dreams are made of, as is the pastor de puerco. I'm kind of getting hungry just writing this. And you get a serious amount of meat on this little buggars. Poor customer service! At an Adidas sponsored even in Alpharetta on Tuesday 7/28 I had the misfortune of experiencing the bad temper, unprofessional remarks and poor customer service from one of the guys serving food on Tex's Tacos Food Truck! I was near the back of the line and the guy sticks his head out the window and tells the guy behind me that he is the last guy and anyone else behind him won't be able to order. Sure, this is normal, but for future reference, if you want a cutoff, then get your ass off the truck or pay someone to do that for you! In front of me was one of the Adidas sponsors who just stepped out of line to talk to a friend of his, who WAS NOT ordering food, when this same jerk stuck his scraggly head out of the window, looked at me and told me "the guy who just cut in front of you won't be getting his order". I immediately protested and told him that the guy was in line the whole time and stepped out to talk with his friend. The unprofessional comments didn't stop there. The line was still backing up as people were just getting off the courts, and the poor guy who was appointed "deputy" was now the bad guy... To this, the rude guy tells his crew that anyone after the skinny guy at the back are not getting any tacos and to tell them to F@%# Off. This is poor customer service and if Tex's Tacos knows who this guy is, then ya'll have to deal with it. The food truck was hired to cater an event from 5-8 with no other options on site. Tex's Tacos were paid for the number of tickets collected and cash was not being taken. It just takes one bad apple to spoil the batch and I'm not letting this jerk take away from that event. I will be posting this on as many social media sites to get the word out about Tex's Tacos. I will also be advising anyone who has other options in picking food trucks... to go with them! read more

Tex Taco's came to my apartment complex earlier this week and after trying their food I hope they return soon. I tried the Carne Asada and Chicken Fresca tacos and they were both very good. Something about the way their cook their steak and chicken just makes it stand out from all the taco spots in Atlanta. I also tried the lime fries which were very good but next time I'm trying the Texicana Fries which looked incredible. In addition to the food, the service was great. My food was ready quickly and one of the guys on the truck, Joey, was very helpful with everything. We had Tex's Taco cater my kiddo's birthday party and it was AMAZING! Everyone was so impressed by the food! Usually kids' birthday parties mean crappy, cold pizza. But not here! Our guests with the gluten-free kiddo were especially thrilled - their kiddo usually doesn't get to eat at parties, and he very much enjoyed some steak tacos (on corn tortillas) and chips with guac! It was so nice to have an option where everyone could pick exactly what they wanted. The toppings bar was great. I don't think I've ever had your salsa roja before - it's SO GOOD. And the parents loved having jalapenos and cilantro and hot sauces to spice theirs up, not to mention that fact that most of the kids ate veggies and guac on their chips and tacos. I'm pretty sure my daughter has gone through an entire container of pico because she loves tomatoes. We brought some tupperware containers, and everyone packed up some leftovers. We made epic nachos with ours :) Pumped for kiddo 2's birthday in a few months, just to have an excuse to cater Tex's Taco's again! read more

Steak Tacos were great. Very authentic and good quality beef. Chicken tacos were weird to me. Not very authentic. The chicken was cubed and tasted like it was seasoned with non Mexican style seasoning. Lime fries were good although the lime flavor wasn't quite there. They were cooked really well - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I would definitely try them again but stick with steak and although the fries weren't quite lime flavored I still like them and would recommend them ($4.00 is a bit high though). read more
