Thai 101 is small but their food is very delicious, especially the Thai Iced Tea! Trust me, I am very critical when it comes to eating Thai food and this place has definitely won me over. 3 stars for my food being ready every time I order it to go. I usually grab it on my way to the tunnel and by the time I get home it's still hot. The portions are doable. The service improved since COVID because dining in they would agitate me with the one napkin at a time. Hovering over you while you eat. Piss poor attitudes. I love the food though. With all the restaurants in this Brooklyn neighborhood I would think restaurants would be trying to keep and get loyal customers not trying to get them to look for other eateries to support. I would've given them three or four stars but the waitress/hostess with blonde hair and a farmers overalls was in need of customer service adjustment. She would be better off helping the cooking staff retrieve items from the fridge instead of being around the paying people. The firecracker shrimp are seasoned well. The siracha chicken made with tofu had lots of vegetables and nice spice. The pad thai chicken is always good. The salad with ginger is light and fresh... Pretty dang tasty! I had the 101 dumplings and Pad Woon Sen with a lychee martini. So how'd it all rate? Honestly.. I've had slower service at McDonalds! For real, these folks are super fast!! The dumplings, in fact, were a bit too fast. I could tell they were prepped and sitting somewhere for easily delivery (they must be popular). The Pad Woon Sen, however, was fresh as all get out... and I insist you try it!! As for the lychee martini... it was 'good'... nothing like Verlaine's in the city (LES), but who's is? This place has been our best Thai food experience. My sons are VEGAN due to food allergies, but can have peanuts and almonds. Since this place opened and has been around on bayside - we have been their biggest fans!! We have ordered variety of dishes from them and have always had a great experience. Personally, I love spices and they have always been on point with the way we order our food. Always, ready to pick up when we have ordered for takeout and very courteous to their customers. The restaurant can use little bit more of face lift but other than that we can't think of any bad food or beverage experiences we have had there. High Recommend it. read more

I ordered the chicken and broccoli evergreen. (Brown sauce and tomato) with brown rice. It was very underwhelming. The Brown sauce isn't truly sauce texture. It's just Brown watery liquid I assume comes from them throwing water in the pan while searing chicken. There was no seasoning or flavor. I had a great time at this place. I was almost about to go to that other Thai place on the same block but my Yelp app steered me here! Yelp always comes through. This place was empty, save for an idling server sitting and a guy charging his phone at a table. But I wasn't deterred. It was Sunday before Labor Day. The beach not the concrete jungle of NY had the attention of the masses and understandably so. The weather was perfect. But I was hungry after my haircut and I wanted to eat nearby so I could have a long walk back to subway and get my exercise. I had two mixed drinks here and both of them were expertly crafted. The fried calamari appetizer was nothing special but it was good. The main course. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp was amazing. Rice cooked perfectly as were the shrimp. The portion was enough for leftovers. My server Marissa was very attentive. My water stayed full and my table was cleared frequently. She asked if everything was fine during every visit to my table. Me and my family went for dinner and was treated like we didn't belong. Everyone was so short and cold, I felt like we were bothering them. The same happen to another couple of color, very cold. I asked to speak to a manager and told her that we were feeling uncomfortable, and she did nothing. So I ended by mentioning that this would be our last visit, her answer was she didn't care. I've ordered a few times from Thai 101. It's always the same order - fried whole red snapper with a sauce. This week I ordered on Door Dash and the order went through. Then Door Dash called to let me know that Thai 101 contacted them to let them know that the price had gone up $4 and they forgot to increase the price on the Door Dash platform. So they wanted me to pay the differential before they made my order. That's just crazy - if you forgot to change your price - that's an error your establishment made and you need to honor that price. The time to update the price is NOT at the point of ordering. Such a shame such crappy service because the snapper is yummy. But other restaurants serve snapper so I'll be going elsewhere for better service. As am commenting on service - in regard to the food: - stay away from the ribs or fish in garlic sauce. Please, do not confuse Thai 101 Bistro with Thai 101 Restaurant. Yes, they serve many of the same dishes, share two-thirds of the same name, are owned by the same people, and exist on the same block as one another. OK, so they're pretty much the same place. However, the big difference seems to be that the Bistro is more of a bar set-up versus its kitchen-like sister across the street, due to its sleek noir decor and party potential. Basically, it's the Paris Hilton to the Restaurant's Nicky. Off of appearances alone, you just know one is a bit more prone to things like sex tapes, reality shows, jail sentences, and all-around good times. And Thai 101 Bistro compelled me to do something I never do at Thai joints - order something other than Pad Thai. What can I say? I was feelin' dangerous. But yes, I branched out with some Musaman Curry and I was not disappointed. Their wide, ovular bowl of chicken, coconut broth, potatoes, and peanut was very good (from an amateur's perspective) - steaming hot and full of flavor. Props to the Bistro for inspiring me to go outside my comfort zone - I appreciate that. Although, I did fall back on my typical Thai appetizer with an order of Chicken Curry Puffs, which hit the spot, as expected. The Crispy Calamari, however, were fried worm-like squiggles, and even though they tasted OK, I really just wished they were the standard rings and tentacles. These kinda looked like they belonged in a potato chip bag. As the night wore on, a large table of loud, squawking women dominated the establishment as if it were their own private space. Which it wasn't. We were right there. Unable to hear one another talk. These patrons were so obnoxiously loud and disrespectful, it was borderline ridiculous. And while the staff was visibly embarrassed, I'd be remiss not to mention how much of a damper it put on the evening given the clientele That 101 Bistro apparently attracts. But I'm gonna go 'head and blame it on the alcohol. Because had the decibel level in there not gotten to jumbo jet engine volumes, I probably would've ordered a few more of those tasty Mai Tais and Margaritas - selections the squawking women were no doubt downing like there was no tomorrow. In the end, Thai 101 Bistro is not the best Thai I've had, nor do I believe there is a need for virtually two of them staring at one another from across Myrtle Ave., but if I lived in this neighborhood, something just tells me I'd be here all the time. read more

OH MY GODS. So my friends got take out with them. One of the ordered an iced coffee. She drank it at school, and towards the end of the drink she felt something in her mouth. She took it out and discovered that it was a baby cockroach. One small enough to slip into your straw. And from then on, she was traumatized. Another friend called and complained about the roach, and they said, "What did you expect? It's Brooklyn." And saying things that, "It must have been in the ice." Maybe I have been very lucky or something but the few times where I have tried their food have all turn out to be alright if not great for the cheap, cheap price. Perhaps their quality isn't very consistent but when they screw it up... it isn't that bad. Their Rama (its chicken with peanut sauce) is good all the time. The thai ice team and coffee are delish. Their service quality can be compromised during busy hours since they don't seem to have a lot of staff (well.. to keep the costs down I guess...) We took my sister and nephew there one time. I had green curry , my only complain wasn't hot enough. It came to me luke warm. My sister's basil something dish was alright. The waiter was very attentive and in the end he gave my 5 yr old nephew dessert of fried ice cream on the house. The total bill was less than 25. It was easy on the wallet. Skip the Pad Thai, do curry (the yellow curry I tried from my friend was very tasty), Rama and Pad ke Mow (yummy!) Note: Many dishes chicken/beef/tofu are 6.95. You are getting DECENT quantity and quality food for that price. Don't expect some mind blowing, top notch Thai food at 7 dollars a pop. Note 2 to Chris C. : A lot of Asian cuisine cooks/serves the fish as a whole which translates to, yes with the head. I placed a Seamless order at 2:18pm. The expected delivery time was 30-45 min. It came at 3:43pm. You do the math. No apology or acknowledgement that it was late. I've ordered from here 3 times, and the delivery time has been inconsistent. So, I'm not sure when to expect my food. I was particularly irritated because I didn't have my morning coffee, and I was kept in constant anticipation for my Thai Iced Coffee. Finally, after waiting 1 hr. and 25 minutes later, my coffee arrived. I've had my coffee, and I'm thinking rationally again to be able to write this review. Pad thai, stuck together, dry and tasteless with 4 tiny over cooked shrimp, the soup was thick, sour and actually tasted rotten, the roti was a mushy mess that got thrown out immediately after one bite and the curry puffs were soggy and didn't taste like it had any curry at all! A truly disappointing experience AND a complete waste of money. I threw it ALL out. Every bite. What a waste of $37.00. I am really annoyed and embarrassed since I recommended ordering from here too..ugh! Thai 101 used to be my go-to spot for Thai delivery. Well, not anymore, and actually not for quite some time, I've just been delayed in reviewing. Anywho... They are absolutely horrendous at getting phone orders correct. We would order an extra rice, and guess what we would get? Not an extra rice... Now, forgetting an extra rice isn't a huge deal. But, every single time? Come on... The last time we ordered, our delivery arrived and our order was missing one or two entrees. The delivery man called the restaurant, we spoke to the manager who told us we were wrong, and hadn't ordered those extra two meals, and then hung up on us. Ok, that's cool, for a 12 year old, not a restaurant trying to keep customers. We tipped the delivery guy and sent him back with the food, and spent our money elsewhere. A good alternative in the neighborhood seems to be Myrtle Thai. Welcome, Thai 101, to my boycott list. read more

2 Stars, because their food has never actually made me physically ill. That said, how the f*ck do you screw up Pad Thai? Once, in my dorm room days, I whipped up some delicious pad thai from a crummy online recipe that involved ketchup and tofu and minimal other ingredients. I may or may not have been smoking something at the time that enhanced the experience, but no matter! The Pad Thai at Thai 101 tastes like greasy noodles with some peanuts sprinkled on top. That's a shame. Relative newbie to the area that I am, I hadn't realized that this place had a reputation for scary cockroach/food dropping/overall nastiness. You can do better. Nobody's stopping you. Dined here with a friend - I had Chicken Pineapple Curry and she had Pad Thai. Two basic dishes that shouldn't be that hard to make them rock. But ours didn't, um, rock. And we would know -we had Thai food every day for a week (I'm practically an expert now). The curry was bland- as curry should most definitely NOT be, the rice was overcooked, and some of the veges they garnished the dish with tasted old. The Pad Thai I didn't try, but seemed to get an unexcited response from my friend as well. This was my first time here- I don't frequent it like other Pratt crowds. Everything was pretty good. We went for lunch after class and were promptly seated. I like the layout of this restaurant, it's not too crowded. The lunch special is $7 for an entree and appetizer, which is AMAZING. Seriously, so good. I ordered veggie pad thai, which was filling and the crunchy rolls, which were also really great. Didn't get here until 10:30 on a Friday night and place wasn't packed at all. The kitchen closes at 11 so I'm assuming they probably had more guests earlier that evening. Design of restaurant is super cute. I love the walls, the chandeliers that serve as a wine glass holder, and even the industrial style vent thingy on the ceiling. They play cool music which helps because I hate going to a restaurant and hearing a bunch of crap that I don't know... Moving on... my appetizers were sooooooooooo good. Had the shrimp wantons which were made to perfection and topped with a spicy mayo sauce. No lie if the kitchen hadn't closed I would've had about 2 more orders of them. The wings were also good and crispy. My main dish was chicken in green curry and the downside was that it was soupy... way too much liquid. The dish itself was tasty, but I have had better. For my drink (I forget the exact name right now) I had something very strong. It was a mixture of vodka with other liquors and halfway to through the 2nd I knew I'd reached my limit and this is coming from someone who has had many drinks in one night. NO complaints though from me... The prices are very decent at this place and the food is worth what you pay. The shrimp was $6, wings $5 and my dish was $9. I've have ordered from Thai 101 a handful of times over the past 3 years that I've lived in the neighborhood. My very first experience was great. Then it started going downhill...about 6 months ago I ordered from there and I got so sick I had to call out of work the next day. When I walked by a few days later they were closed down. My boyfriend mistakenly ordered from there two nights ago and they said it would be delivered in about 25 minutes. 45 minutes later he called to ask how much longer it would be and they said it was on the way already. We live probably 2 blocks away. 25 minutes after that it arrived. Our pad thai with shrimp was tasteless and had only shrimp tails in it, no actual shrimp... it honestly looked like they piled the leftovers from a bunch of people's plates into a takeout container and delivered it to us. We also got pineapple fried rice that was also pretty lackluster. We will be trying one of the new spots in the hood next time! read more

First off, let's start with hints of unsuccess this restaurant displays: on the happy hour (which runs from something like 5-9:30 LOL) table tent, it reads "drinks are non refundable and non exchangeable". HA. Sign they are total crap so I skip them. I order a simple tofu pad dish which comes drowned in fat. Same with my girlfriend's dish, which was worse than mine. Good, reliable Thai food. We've never actually been to the restaurant but we order delivery from here all the time. Their pad thai, the old standby, is consistent. I highly recommend the chicken curry puffs and their salads. My only gripe is that I always request no silverware/napkins and they almost always send them anyway. read more
