Good, reliable Thai food. We've never actually been to the restaurant but we order delivery from here all the time. Their pad thai, the old standby, is consistent. I highly recommend the chicken curry puffs and their salads. My only gripe is that I always request no silverware/napkins and they almost always send them anyway. read more

OH HELL NO. I came here because I accidentally walked past the AWESOME Thai place a few blocks down (myrtle btwn Adelphi & clermont) and was too lazy to go back. I am vegetarian so i ordered par ram(??) under the vegetarian menu. I took one bite and noticed the "tofu" was chicken. My boyfriend confirmed that it was the same chicken in his food. I am not a self righteous PETA soldier but if I order something that has "vegetarian" in the name I usually feel confident that they're not going to just throw in the extra chicken from my boyfriend's meal so they don't have to cook tofu. Note: any time we needed service we had to go up to the counter and try to get the girl to pay attention to us instead of her phone. There was no such thing as someone actually waiting on us other than when they took our order. When I told her about the chicken she just took my plate and walked away. No apology, no acknowledgement of what was happening next. I asked for pad Thai. With no meat. I got it. All was right in the world for a moment. Once again we flag down phone girl. She was probably playing candy crush and I hate that game. We leave a GENEROUS 10% tip (I was trying to convince my boyfriend to leave nothing but he is a super nice dude) and leave. Suddenly we hear someone yelling after us and turn around to find homegirl CHASING US DOWN THE STREET. she asks what was wrong with her service. WHERE DO I BEGIN? After I put on my captain obvious hat and itemized everything she did wrong she told me none of it mattered because she did not charge me for the meaty vegetarian dish that I took one bite out of gave back and only charged me for the food I actually consumed. OH THANK YOU FOR NOT CHARGING ME FOR THE FOOD YOU MESSED UP WHICH I DID NOT EAT, SO KIND OF YOU. she told us we were wrong and we should give her 18% tip. Then she ran back to play more candy crush. I've only been here twice, and I must say... Yuck. I myself only had sticky rice and a bit of jasmine rice (because I'm vegetarian and have many allergies), my mother had a duck plate (can't remember which), and my friend who lives in the area had dumplings and Thai iced tea. First off, when we sat down, we had to wait for around 10 minutes for someone to just hand us a few menus. When we finally got them, AFTER we attempted to get them ourselves, we decided on our choices. Took a little longer than expected for them to take our orders. We asked for the food, and waited. And waited. And waited. My friend got her dumplings first. She ate them slowly so she wouldn't finish before we even received our food. We patiently stayed in our seats, giving the staff the benefit of the doubt, but eventually we ended up saying, over and over "If they don't bring us our food in the next 5 minutes, we're leaving." After, oh, lets say 30 minutes, my mother got the duck she ordered, with the side of jasmine rice that came with it. As soon as that happened, the music was BLARING R&B. We had to yell at each other to talk. I could feel the music in the bench I was sitting on. We called the only waiter over, who also answered the phone while delivering food to the customers, and asked him where the hell my freakin' sticky rice was. He said that he'd already gave it to us, and pointed at the jasmine rice. After we told him what it really was, he claimed he forgot, and stole the sticky rice from another person's food that was waiting in the back. Holy. Crap. The sticky rice wasn't sticky. The dumplings were bland. And in my honest opinion, even though I rarely eat jasmine rice... It tasted like I had stale, white rice with carpet cleaner sprayed all over it. Apparently, the only good part was the duck my mother had (that my friend had to eat a bit of to keep her tongue from drying out), the Thai iced tea, and the decor. It looked really nice from the outside--dim lights, flowers, and statues. The bill came out to $23.50 (just about), and we only tipped 10%. Gosh, thinking back on it, we should have walked out in the middle of the meal. And when we finished, it also took them a long time to even give us the bill. And they wanted 15%? I took a gander on their Green Curry and it paid off. In fact, I believe it's one of the best I've had in New York. My friend's pad thai wasn't one of the best but the food here is quite good. They have some interesting menu options and the workers are very proactive in caring about each customer. Overall, a good experience. Thai 101 used to be my absolute favorite place for Thai fusion food. Hubby and I would go out of our way to go there for dinner. However, it looks like recently the management might have changed (or something definitely changed). (It was pretty tasty for Imitation Crab Meat) She wasn't that hungry so we were just going to have appetizers and drinks but I'm greedy and I knew I was going to YELPPPPPPPPPPPPP about it so I decided to order an Entree, I had the Sriracha Chicken* sauteed chicken topped with cucumber, onion, tomatoes, bell pepper, sweet and spicy sauce.. I replaced the chicken with Shrimp.. so I had the Sriracha Shrimp! They made it very spicy.. it was okay.. I did not finish it.. it was blah! lets just say I won't be ordering that again. For drinks I ordered.. One Night in Bangkok! and my date ordered a Princess drink..I forgot the name.. but it had Princess in it. The drinks were good! I'll say that. Overall.. This place was ok..... I came here the other night for a quick dinner. I ended up staying much longer than expected! I started off with a margarita. I am sucha margarita girl and quite picky about them. I didn't think a Thai restaurant would give me such a goody. It was strong and delightful. Made me feel like I could come back here just for the bar in case I didn't like the food. Then, I ordered the Pineapple Delight with shrimp. I am a lover of spice and Thai 101 surely hit the mark. I didnt feel overpowered. I actually giggled with my friend about it. I hate going to places and the food isn't made with love. This dish was made by someone paying attention! It wasn't too crowded but there was a large party there. I'm a delivery.com junkie, and tend to sometimes order later than usual when I'm not in the mood to cook a big 'ole dinner. Depending on where you live, there is an abundance of restaurants; the same types of restaurants, over, and over, and over. The type of cuisine with the highest abundance? Thai. I've eaten at countless Thai restaurants, therefore don't really have too too much to say regarding Thai 101 Bistro's cuisine, aside from the fact that it's OK. I generally order the Rama dish, which is pretty much the meat or non-meat of your choice, smothered in peanut sauce with a seldom amount of greens and carrot slices. I've had the Rama dish at other Thai restaurants, but I'd say that Thai 101 Bistro has the tastiest--thus far. The only downside is that I've seen Rama come with noodles at other places; Thai 101 Bistro doesn't have noodles in it. Hey, I'm fine with that. They always pack it with a lot of chicken and I'd much rather have my protein over excess carbs. Their service is pretty prompt and they're always attentive. Thai 101 is always a treat to eat at. It's both a neighborhood staple and a no-fail go-to for affordable and tasty food. It's easily one of my significant other and I's favorite places to eat. This restaurant has a relaxed, chill atmosphere and run by a staff that is very comforting and accommodating. I normally drink lots of water and they refill my cup within 2 minutes every time! The pad thai, which is what I usually order, is always steamy and delicious. No complaints here; I'm a big fan. read more

As far as Thai food goes in Brooklyn I'd say Thai 101 is one of my go to when I have a craving for Thai food. I really the food here. The curry is flavorful, the duck is still crispy when it comes out and I always order the Asian vegetable with mock duck. The pad woonsen is quite good and the standard of all Thai food for me is Pad Thai. I find they make it right with a good balance of sweet/savory/spicy. Many place make it way too sweet but here is just right for me. read more

Ummm, it's called Thai 101. I mean, someone actually thought that it was a good idea to call it that. Clearly, from their name, the place lacks any sign of creativity or good sense. Same can be said of their food. On the other hand, we can give the place some credit for calling themselves Thai 101 if their intention was, "Our restaurant is just an introduction for those who've never had Thai food before in their lives." I've been going to this restaurant for a few years, i would say it is good 60% of the time. The way they make things vary so much.... If you're lucky, you'd get a well made dish. Sometimes they take forever on a order. They are really inconsistant. The last time i went there, the chicken came pretty raw....had to bring it back to the kitchen. I went with my cousin for a little celebration we had the crabmeat dumbing smaller than I expected but good. she loved the red curry with shrimp & I really like the Green curry Duck nice crispy skin! We ordered some takeout from this place. So this review is only on the food that we received and not the venue it's self. We didn't feel like cooking on a Saturday night so we ordered from this place. The menu had the normal things that you would find at Thai places so nothing really popped out at me. We ordered two appetizers, soup, two salads and a main course. The appetizers consisted of the Tofu Tod which is fried bean curd served with crushed peanut in sweet & sour sauce. The tofu was cut into small triangle pieces. There was about 7 or 8 pieces. (Note to self: friend tofu does not travel well, it gets soggy in the take out boxes) It was tasty and the sauce was really good. I just wish that it was crispier. The other one we ordered was the Martini Shrimp. It's shrimp wrapped with rice paper the fried. It really lacked flavor. It was just regular shrimp in paper. Nothing really special. I would not get that next time. The Tom Yum soup was really spicy. It refreshed my taste buds for the dinner. It needed a hint of lime, but the soup really hit the spot. Tom Yum soup is a traditional shrimp soup spiced with exotic herbs, mushrooms, lime juice, lemon grass & coriander leaves. This is a must! The salads we ordered were the Beef Salad and my favorite, the Green papaya Salad. The Beef salad consisted of liced grilled beef seasoned with chili & lime juice. It's a bit on the spicy side, but the beef really tones it down. So it was easy to eat. The papaya salad on the other hand is very refreshing. Fresh shredded green papaya, tomato, peanut, string bean, chili, garlic with lime juice dressing. This is one of my all time favorite salads and an excellent side dish to fried fish. Lastly is the Pad Thai. Since mostly everything we ordered was spicy we decided to get this regular. When we got it we kinda wish we did get it spicy cause it lacked flavor and ended up adding soy sauce and hot sauce on it. It was tasty though, nothing really stood out from these noodles. Thai 101 is your typical quick and easy Thai place, but it pales in comparison to some of its neighbors in the area. I thought competition was supposed to encourage better food and service? I guess not. We ordered from Thai 101 last night, and right off the bat, you could tell the portions were paltry. Usually you get 4 or 5 spring rolls in an order--we got 3. The edamame we ordered only filled half of the container it came in, and obviously so. I've come here twice and the portions are small-to-medium sized. Moderately priced. Service was good too. The red curry with coconut milk was good, not too spicy and not too variety of vegetables. This restaurant falls in the Zaytoons school of restaurants on Myrtle avenue; a bit pricey, slightly grimy and the food is often pretty bland but at the same time I've visited the place several times and have never necessarily had a bad experience like the ones I'm hearing on Yelp. I can recall having their Pineapple Curry and Calimari. I don't think I've ever ordered anything beyond an appetizer probably due to the price more than anything else. Their Thai Iced Tea is pretty good and a decent addition at only $2. The service takes maybe 15 minutes longer than it should to get the food to you and the menus are a little more scarce than you'd want. Be warned however, if you order a fish, you'll get the entire thing on a plate, skin, eyeballs and all. However, Myrtle Thai Restaurant is literally only a few blocks away and their food is marginally better. While I wouldn't avoid this place from the reviews mentioning cockroaches and food poisoning, you can definitely find better Thai food without much effort in the area. Yelp is your friend. read more

The reason why I gave this 1 star is because of hospitality. The food is good but when it came to hospitality it was horrible over sweet Thai sauce normally restaurants give you a sauce for free these people are soo cheap they wanted you to pay 50 cents for sauce period they won't even give you a sauce for free to go with the dish which cost 11.00 dollars. Then I went to Kum Kau located at 463 Myrtle Ave Brooklyn NY a block away with money in my hand to pay for 1 hot mustard and the man gave it to me no charge just to go with food that was not even bought from that restaurant. Now that was hospitality. Just for a 50 cents sauce I will not go back to Thai 101 again because of hospitality which I advise that the heavy set woman at Thai 101 be a lot nicer because making a big stink of charging a person 50 cents for Thai sauce instead of giving it for free is a big turn off and I will not be going back to Thai 101 located at 448 Myrtle Ave Brooklyn ny because of being charged 50 cents for a sauce I felt that should have went with the dish I bought.
