I wasn't really sure how to rate this place, I've been here many times before and enjoy the food. I haven't had experience with any other Thai restaurant, only Americanized deep fried Chinese, so I have no basis for comparison to what would be considered excellent or not so excellent Thai cuisine. So, I bought some take out after work today and had some at home. The place itself is small and decorated in various Thai decorations (not overpoweringly so). The place is kept neat with nicely set tables. People can come here casual or for a nice lunch/ dinner out. They also have carry out and I think they deliver (don't quote me on this last one I never formally checked). Years ago I used to order the sweet and sour pork many times for lunch, which came with some kind of soup and a spring roll (man I loved their spring rolls). These days I order sweet and sour tofu or the sauteed mixed vegetables, spice level 3 (they go from 1-4, 1 being the lowest heat level, 4 being the "Native Thai" which is hottest). Today I ordered the S&S tofu with extra pineapple and broccoli added for myself and the sauteed mixed vegetables (no heat, my husband doesn't do spicy) for my husband. They were both wonderful and enough to feed at least 4-5 people. I will have mine for another meal or two, The food reheats in the microwave very well. I certainly couldn't eat all of it in a shot. My husband finished his but his tummy was a biiiiiiiit overstuffed (he loved it though). Very recommended, we like this better than Chinese food. As far as I can tell, this place hasn't stopped being awesome since I was coming here for the great lunch special over 10 years ago. I've been back a couple of times. One recently on a weeknight last week. The Panaeng here is the real deal. EE Sane is nice, but their Panaeng is more like a thinner Green curry. This is like the sweeter golden-yellow Panaeng that other places serve, only more flavorful, creamier, and much more satisfying overall. I asked the waiter if I could get Panaeng curry over their crispy noodle dish that would otherwise have what they call "gravy". It was incredible. EE Sane has a dish called Singapore noodles that is also good (more of a green curry flavor), and was the inspiration for this request. But this combination was amazing at Thai Kitchen. It's not on the menu, but if enough people ask, maybe they'll add it. Don't be a hero, or overcompensate (for... whatever) with the heat level. Get this at the 2.5 out of 4 level and enjoy plenty of heat and still enjoy an awesome blend of flavors. read more

This is probably my partner and I's favorite thai restaurant ever. They are super chill and friendly and not the fake kind of friendly either, just straight to business kind (haha) which is great when ya girl's hangry. If you like fancy flashy restaurants and a big menu, then this place isn't for you. Super delicious food, very affordable prices and simple basic menu. Food is always consistent in size and taste. No thai restaurant makes papaya salad and panang curry the way Thai kitchen does. I grew up in Milwaukee but don't live here anymore, but every time I come home to visit my dad I always make a stop. The papaya salad is made super super well! The flavours are all balanced, the spice levels are actually reasonable, there are fresh tomatoes and cabbage and such as well as a very generous size of shredded papaya in the order for a great price. I don't know, but maybe the papaya salad just tastes more Hmong and that's why I like it a lot here! The panang curry (which I ALWAYS get!) is always super flavourful and the perfect amount of thickness. I hate watery curry more than anything. The veggies make sense (I know this is weird to say but some restaurants put the weirdest things in their curry) and the portions are really good. I always have leftovers no matter how hungry I am. I never really feel satisfied after eating panang anywhere else, simply because Thai kitchen makes it exactly how I like it and nowhere else I've gone has been able to compare. All in all, the food is so damn good that I don't care about anything else- but the place is a little small. They are always super accommodating and I've never really seen it super packed whenever I happen to go. I love it because it feels homey, it's not run down or sketchy feeling despite the small size. It's not overly gentrified either. I like it a lot. It feels like a restaurant my mom would make and cook at, with food that is the quality of a good home cooked Hmong/Thai meal. Love. read more

This places definitely has the best tasting Asian cuisine I've had! Service is excellent and of course the food. The prices are pretty good and you'll feel happy leaving with some good thai food. The only down side is just trying out new foods you don't know but it's good to be adventurous and you can always ask questions. The place is a bit small but he staff does a great job to attend to everyone when and if it's full. Great place for friends and family to talk to. I yelped a place nearby after a Friday night hike on the Beerline Trail. I ordered my litmus test for Thai food. And the results are: inexpensive, spicy when you ask them to make it spicy, gigantic insanely huge portions, and friendly employees. Pretty solid. I ordered take-out, so my employee interaction was brief, but it was also pleasant. The Crab Rangoon recipe needs something a bit more, to my taste - maybe diced green onion or water chestnut to cut the straight outta Philly cream cheese flavor. Still totally edible though. The Pad Thai was about 85/15 in noodle/chicken ratio, BUT they gave me enough food for 3 good sized meals from that one order, so I'm really not complaining. read more

I've visited this place whenever I'm around UWM and it's during the lunchtime special. The prices are cheap for the most part and the lunch time special for me is the best. Where else can you get spring rolls, a soup and the main entree for cheap? I done take out and sitting down. I personally like the sit down because the waiters have brought me more rice to eat with my meal. I also like the different levels of hot that they have, however, I've only tried "Native Thai" hot once with my Garlic chicken. Never again. The atmosphere is quiet and I like it. Thai food is one of my guilty pleasures and I jumped at the chance to try out a new thai restaurant at the urging of a friend. When we arrived the place was empty so we were able to quickly to order. We started off with apps. My friend ordered the crab Rangoon, this dish was very large and tasty. It was fried to perfection and the dish was piping hot. We all really enjoyed this dish. I also ordered the coconut milk soup with chicken. Upon fist viewing, I was really confused because the soup came out red? Usually, when I order coconut milk soup it's a greenish color. It also was very thick. I wasn't to sure if this was really a curry vs. Coconut milk but I kept it anyway. The taste of the soup was OK but I wouldn't order it again. I ordered the pad thai 3 out of 5 spicy with pork and shrimp. The dish was very plentiful with a good combination of the pork and shrimp. The shrimp was clean (no black lines). The dish was not spicy at all which is a pet peeve of mine when I go to asian restaurants. It as if all Americans can't judge what level of spice they can handle :/ The dish itself was OK, nothing special I definitely have had better pad thai. It was very saucy which was good, nothing like a dry pad thai. Be aware they have two different pad thai's to choose from, the originally which is sweeter and the new pad thai which is supposed to be more soy sauce based. I ordered the original and it was sweet, so if u don't like sweet this is not the dish for you. My husband ordered the pad eew noodle with spicy level 4 out of 5. He is asian so they gave him the spice level he wanted which he enjoyed. He liked his dish and again it was saucy and plentiful. Our friend ordered the thai fried rice. This dish was so good. I wish I would have ordered it! It had chicken and shrimp In it and the flavors of the dish went together lovely. She ordered a 2 out of five spice level and her dish was actually Spicer than mine :/ (she is asian as well). If I was to go back to this restaurant, this would be the dish that I would order. Last night I was back at my old stomping grounds - UW-Milwaukee. My co-worker and I stopped in at Thai kitchen for dinner before an event. There was plenty of seating at 5 pm on a Thursday night. Most people who stopped in stopped in for take out. The waiter was very friendly, helpful and attentive, he had a very pleasant demeanor. The menu wasn't overly large and confusing, something I have found at other Thai restaurants. We ordered a noodle dish and volcano chicken. I enjoyed the volcano chicken more then the noodle dish. The chicken was real chicken! Not small bits and pieces of chicken - the kind that leaves you wondering "what part of the bird was that?" - but whole chicken breasts cut into strips. The sauce was sweet with cabbage and carrots. We ordered a "one" "hotness" level, I would go higher next time. The noodle dish was good, but, the noodles were a bit on the soggy side so the texture was a bit off for me. The prices are reasonable. I would go back again...and probably order the volcano chicken! read more

Best Thai I've had since I got back from Thailand. The 4 flavors the Thai people incorporate into their food were all there in perfect amounts! SWEET, SPICY, SALTY, and SOUR. I compare Thai restaurants by their Panang curry because that is what I learned how to make while I was there. This has the best one. They have an amazing lunch menu. I have only tried their Red curry, Pad thai and Thai tea. I liked it very much and prices are very reasonable. Service was good for dine in and carry out on different occasions. Really the best red curry I've ever had. Incidentally, I appreciated that Thai hot was truly spicy. But it wasn't like some places that just add red flakes, the spicy flavors added a lot of complexity to the dish and really made it come alive. Oh East Side Thai Food, How I Love You. Disclaimer : Thai Kitchen is my second favorite thai restaurant in the city and I only eat here if I don't feel like making the (One Mile, Fuck I'm Lazy) trek to Ee-Sane. That said, it's delicious. Especially the Yellow Curry. My taste buds almost think that their Yellow Curry is better than Ee-Sane's, which is blasphemy as far as my brain is concerned. I will say that their ambiance is probably better than Ee-Sane's dodgy-Bangkok street-food vibe. All-in-All, if you're craving thai food and you're on the east side, Ee-Sane is your best bet. But if you're on the corner of Locust and Oakland and all your friends want Oakland Gyros and you just NEED curry to make your life whole, you could do a ton worse than Thai Kitchen. Oh, one last thing, their spice scale is nonsense. 1-3 is not nearly evocative enough for peoples palates. Even the three is kind of sissy-fied. read more

Where is the love? Maybe I'm just a bit nostalgic. This was my first Thai meal ever. I love you, Volcano Chicken. I've been eating you for over 12 years now. It's been wonderful. I've had the spring rolls as well and those are delicious. The people that own/run this place are super nice and they never screw up my order. I moved closer to downtown on the east side, so I don't get there nearly as often as I used to... but I miss it. Very good service and very good lunch prices, but I find their food to be mediocre at best. So far I've tried their curry and their pad siew and I wasn't a big fan of either dish. A friend of mine likes their curry because of it's creaminess, but I find the creaminess and the sweetness a bit of a turn off. I also wasn't a fan of the pad siew since I felt the noodles were too soft, too salty, and that they had dumped too much soy sauce on it. Not a fan of the egg drop soup either since it looks rather haphazardly made with canned broth and a couple veggies. On the plus side, they are close to UWM and they do have a good Thai iced tea/iced coffee. The latter, I recommend trying it mixed in any Thai place you'd go to. read more

I use to go there every weekend for sure and I loved the ambiance and food of this place. My personal favourite was volcano chicken. The staff was really friendly and always the order came well in time. I still remember that our table during group dinner use to miss forks/spoons and we had to remind the staff couple of times. Order consisted of: Chicken Pad Thai (Originial) Shrimp Fried Rice Volcano Chicken I've been here many many times in the past. It's one of my favorite places in the city to get Thai. The Pad Thai here is perfect every single time. I suggest going a little less on the spicy level on the pad thai so you can really enjoy the flavor, I usually go with a two (level is out of five). Shrimp fried rice is my favorite fried rice of all time. It tastes so fresh and it's not drowning in soy sauce. I'd suggest a little spicier on the fried rice, I usually go with a three. And finally the glorious volcano chicken. If you grew up eating chicken tenders, this is going to be perfect for you. If you order it in the restaurants, it comes covered in sauce, but somehow remains crispy. Ordering carry out on the volcano chicken is just slightly less exciting because the chicken doesn't maintain it's crispness but the flavors are so delicious it won't make much a difference. 5/5 would eat this everyday if my body could process spicy foods read more

We have been going to A. Thai Kitchen for many years. It is a small operation but we have come to recognize the staff, which are very attentive and friendly. The food is consistent, excellent, and very reasonably priced. Crab Rangoon, Pud Prig Sod, Panang Curry are favorites. This is a hidden gem for Thai food in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, you will have to deal with the near campus parking hassles, but it is worth it. The decor needs a face lift, but the food makes it easy to overlook. read more

mmmm...Not so much. I am excited to try a new Thai place closer to my house than some of the other ones downtown but what this experience taught me was it is probably best just to drive the extra 6 blocks to EESane and get a quality meal for the same price. I got take out and the highlight of the meal was the Thai Iced Tea (which was just Okay...I Loooooooooove me some Thai Iced Tea). I love to start every Thai meal the Tom Yum Soup- duh who doesn't right? But this soup tasted someone just poured grease in a pot and put a few green onions and mushrooms in there- ew. sick. I got Tofu Pad Thai (The new Pad Thai) and again, all I tasted was grease. The left overs were even more gross. Will not be back. EESane, we will see you soon. read more
