I'm no stranger to Thai Chili. I've been eating there for 9 years. I even order take out from them. I noticed a change in service about a year ago. Seems management changed. Tonight I went in with my family and were directed to a table. Granted it was a busy night but no one came to our table after sitting for 10 mins. My husband stood up to ask the hostess for someone to take our order. Another 10 mins later, still no one. We got up and left and the hostess didn't seem to care. Thai Tea, Thai Chicken and steamed rice (so I am a rut here). I have not been disappointed at Thai Chili but I haven't tried everything on the menu either. Every time I eat with someone here, they will order something different. I have never heard a complaint. It is a little cramped at times because it is crowded. The service, well, it is OK. They will accommodate you but don't expect them to roll out the red carpet. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Try it out if you are in the Emory area. While Thai Chili is decent, its nearby competitors are a far better bang for the buck. I had the nam sod ($7.25) and the masaman curry chicken ($11.95) off the dinner menu. Pretty steep prices, all told. (Note that the masaman curry chicken runs for $8.95 at lunch, where it's served with soup or salad; that's still not that cheap.) The nam sod was a competently prepared version of the stuff, although I felt that the dish focused on turning up the spice while lacking in real flavor. It's not pleasantly presented, either, with small scraps of lettuce effectively mixed into the dish (the pork mixture really ought to be spooned into larger pieces of lettuce). Two carrot and two celery sticks are served on the side, along with an enormous wedge of raw cabbage. The masaman curry chicken seemed almost watered down. They're not particularly generous with the cashews, and the avocado on top is sliced so thinly, they might as well not put it in. Not great. So: Good, but not great. Go to Little Bangkok, Top Spice, or one of the other nearby Thai options instead. read more

I'm lucky enough to live within the 3-mile delivery radius, so it was an easy choice. I had the Duck Panang, which was very good. The duck was succulent and tender, and the Panang sauce paired well to hit the spot. I'll definitely be coming back and trying more of the menu. read more

Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got Thai Chili in my tummy. I've been here a number of times for lunch and it is always consistently good. Spicy Basil Scallops were tender and spicy without burning down the house, a soft-shelled crab appetizer was delightful, Spicy Chicken and Vegetables hit the spot, and a lovely Masaman Chicken with avocado and cashews made me want to go back and learn how to make it from the chef. This may have been the first Thai restaurant I ever tried in Atlanta. Anyway, the guy who said they were around before you could find Thai food on every corner is right. And if you read restaurant reviews in those days, critics were practically writing loop-de-loops around each other in trying to out-praise Thai Chili. I'm here to testify about the curries. Red or green, chicken, tofu, shrimp or pork, it's Atlanta's best, in my opinion. It is basically the curry dish by which I judge all other curry dishes. We hadn't been here in years and are glad we made the trek. One of the highlights was that we fed our family of four (including 2 teens with appetites) for under $60, and even had leftovers. I had the Chicken Pad Thai which was delicious. It had the perfect amount of spice, which other restaurants I've tried lacked. I also had the egg rolls which weren't very flavorful and is why I only gave the restaurant 4 stars. But, the Thai Iced Tea was some of the best I've had because it wasn't too sweet. I helped my friends to celebrate her husband's birthday and ordered online for delivery to home. My order is just three dishes including two main courses and one soup, but they just delivered without the soup!!! I had to call them and they were totally calm and said "Sorry~" .They simply told me that they were out of soup and what they could do was to give a refund or credit. Mediocre at best. I ordered basil beef and veg stir fry. The beef was cut into hunks and the dish was kind of watery, not saucy, if you know what I mean. The vegetable stir fry was more like steamed veg, little to no seasoning. Thai ripoff I have no beef against their food. However, I've been there several times, and each time they have overcharged me. The first time I let it go because I thought I didn't look at the menu right, but then it kept happening, and when I questioned them, they would "disappear", only to come back and say, what's wrong--as if nothing happened. Had Massaman Curry and Basil Chicken delivered by GoWaiter; arrived in a reasonable time and warm. The massaman was good, but didn't have much vegetables; mostly just chicken. The basil chicken didn't have a great taste. Overall, I think Malaya has better tasting food, but Thai Chili delivers here, which is key sometimes. Thai Chili is a ridiculously delicious restaurant. It is a bit of a fixture in my family. My father will often take me and my sister there, and while I scarf down a generous portion of Tofu Panang Curry (with added Thai Chili oil, request it!) in a snooty vegetarian sort of way, my father will devour the Intown Short Ribs, which he gets every time and are quite tasty, and my sister will have a shrimp dish. I have never been to Thailand. Heck, I can barely do a jump kick, let alone channel a Qi dragon to eat your junk. But I do have a tongue, and a discerning one at that, and I can tell you that the flavor, spicing, arrangement, presentation, consistent quality, service, ambiance, and decor (fountain, dragons, lasa opsa -like creatures) are first rate, despite its modest surroundings in a strip mall nearly overrun by kosher restaurants. If you live in Atlanta and like to eat Thai food, it's certainly worth a trip. Thai Chili is not a place where dreams come true, however. One time, while waiting for my acceptance letter to a certain local medical school (which apparently was lost in the mail or something), I noticed the Dean of Admissions eating there with a large group, presumably his family. He had gotten the Green Curry, by the way, and seemed to be greatly enjoying it. I did several fly-by's of the table in the hopes of him noticing me, and remembering me among the hundreds of interviewed applicants: the hackneyed thoughts of a desperate applicant running through my head, that maybe my simultaneous presence at Thai Chili would tip the scales in my favor. Moral of the story is that, while Thai Chili can provide many things for you--including delicious food, a great place for a date or dinner with your parents, all at moderate pricing--it cannot provide you acceptance to one of the finer medical schools in the country. Love the green curry (they have those yummy tiny eggplants in them), massaman is pretty good, and noodle dishes are always tasty. Went here with some of my coworkers during lunch time. Service was pretty bad and slow, we waited forever to even get our drinks in and waited even longer to get our bill. Food flavor was there, but portions were ridiculously small... I ordered masaman curry shrimp and got THREE tiny tiny pieces of shrimp. I was still hungry after my meal and paid around $15 for that. We ended up getting back to work late and we work less than a mile away. Advice: there are soooo many good Thai restaurants around this area. Look elsewhere! read more

I'll start off with what went well during my recent visit to Thai Chili. The Thai iced tea and coconut soup were delicious. Since my drink and soup were great my hopes were high for the spicy basil fried rice dish I'd ordered. However everything went downhill very fast. First off after the soup and salad was served our server didn't reappear until 30 mins later. When the server did arrive he only had the orders for half of the people at the table. The other half had to wait 15 more minutes for their entrees. When the food finally came it was inedible. I took it home to feed to the neighbor's dog. It literally wasn't fit for human consumption. I wish I was exaggerating. I will never go here for dinner again, but might have the iced tea and coconut soup if a friend or business acquaintance brings me here again. read more

I was really excited about trying this place, but our experience was terrible. We went in on a Friday night at 7:30pm. It was only half full. We waited 15 minutes to see a server to gets drinks. After an hour, we paid for our drinks and left without our food. The staff was rude and angry at us for wanting to leave before the food came out. Why would pad thai and basil rice take over an hour?! There were other tables waiting longer than we did. We will absolutely not be back and will not recommend this place. read more
