This is my "go-to" Thai restaurant in N. Portland. I usually order take out... about once a week. My wife loves the Pad Thai and Panang Curry. I like to try different things, but the Pad Kee Mao and Geang Dang are my usual favorites. I like it hot, but they can get it pretty spicy, so for safety sake, I recommend you start at medium and work your way up. If they give you the option of "Thai spicy or American spicy"... don't be more brave than smart... start at American spicy and go from there. The pot stickers are pretty yummy as well. The college hotspot. Desperate to escape dorm food and top ramen, you'll always find Univ of Portland students swarming this place at one point or another. Bottom line, great thai food, great service, for even greater prices. the menu is choked full of both the oldies (pad thai blah blah) as well as other interesting specials (salmon-mango stir fry). Offers sit down and take out. As a veggie one thing I should note is the prevalence of meat. Seafood is usually available to sub, tofu it seems is less common. MAY I COMMENT HOWEVER...on how strange it is when customers [usually old white people, sorry, but true] don't eat asian food family style. I am so luckily to live where I can call this treasure my own! I love Thai Ginger, I admit I must eat there weekly. Their menu is extensive the food always plentiful ( I always get 2 meals out of one) the service fast and accurate. I have tried quiet a few of the items and they are all great!! Their standard spicing is mild to sometimes pushing medium but you can amp it up with simple request and soon you'll be soaring in the fires of pleasure. hehe Their take out is fast and easy. It can get a little busy at the counter as folks wait for their food but its worth every penny you pay and this is VERY reasonably priced Thai food.. I've paid a lot more for a whole lot less Go you wont regret it!. read more

Everything I've ever gotten here has been absolutely delicious! It's a nicely sized space, with a comfortable and casual atmosphere. Pretty quick at getting you your food, and the servers are always kind and accommodating. I highly recommend the pad thai, tom kha gai soup, and massaman curry! Definitely a local favorite, it's a rare occasion when I don't run into someone I know either picking up takeout or eating there. read more

This was my first time going to this restaurant with my co-workers. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken. It was very good and delicious. The flavor was just perfect. The restaurant gets pretty busy during lunch time, and it's very small. If you come during lunch, anticipate to wait at least 10-15 minutes before getting a seat. This was my first time eating here and it was great. The menu had a plethora of choices ranging from chicken, beef, and all kinds of seafood. All at very decent prices. The appetizers were all around 4 dollars and were a really good way to start the meal. The service was quick and excellent. They constantly brought us water and asked if they could get us anything else. They checked to see how the food was. Great service. On a rainy Saturday night headed home to North Portland from the west side after a very long day we were extremely hangry and didn't want to go to inside a restaurant because we were feeling grubby. I haven't eaten at Thai Ginger in probably 8-10 years but it's the closest to our house and not far off the freeway so I called and placed an order as we were on I 405 about to go over the Fremont Bridge. Less than 15 minutes later we arrived at the restaurant (which is just a window because indoor dining is closed). Food was ready, hot and reasonably priced and good sized portions. We got it home and it was all very delicious. Everything we ordered was tasty and just the right amount of spice. We had Green curry, Pad Thai, Spicy basil fried rice and spring rolls. We've been eating at various other Thai restaurants over the years even though this one has been right in our face the whole time. Just bummed that we realized this right before we move to the west side. We'll have to get in a few more meals before the move! read more

This was our first (and last) experience with Thai Ginger. We had our order delivered by Grubhub so there was no opportunity to send it back, which we would have done if we ordered in the restaurant. The Pad Woon Sen was missing three of the five ingredients listed in the menu, and we requested shrimp but at least a third of the shrimp were tails with no shrimp attached. We made a simple request for the Panang curry--no peppers--which was ignored. There was some good news: the coconut shrimp starter was expensive but tasty, and the Thai iced coffees were delicious, although they ignored our request for extra cream so we had to add our own. Compared to other Thai restaurants, portions were small for the price. Overall this was a big disappointment and we will never come back. read more

This place is the Tex Mex of Thai. Straight forward, approachable. First Thai place in a while that doesn't drench everything in fish sauce (thank you!), chicken didn't taste gamy, broccoli wasn't over cooked. Decent amount of heat to "medium spicy". I got some takeout from here. It is a nice place though it is quite quaint. I would not go if I had a very large group. I ordered chicken pad thai with medium spice. If you are into spicy, you will love it. Their peanut sauce is good and their food is fresh. I also ordered golden shrimp which was good though just a little overcooked. I ordered pineapple fried rice and went I got home it was inedible . It was super mushy like mashed potatoes. When I got home and called back regarding my order, I was treated rudely and told to call back because she was too busy. They weren't to busy to take my money though. I am a regular, but I regularly only get one thing - the #22 lunch special. Pineapple Cashew Fried Rice. This dish is amazing!! Fried rice with egg, pineapple, cashew nuts, raisins, onions and bell peppers. Its just full of flavor and they give you a TON! I think they actually give you more if you get it to go, but I can't confirm that. The service at Thai Ginger is always the best. They are fast, efficient and friendly. Its a tiny little restaraunt, but its clean and they move people in and out very quickly. I couldn't recommend this place more! What are you waiting for? Go! read more

Food is OK. Short wait and lots of food. Only problem is their lack of understanding what customer service means. I do not like spicy food so when I order I always specify "NO SPICE". Usually if a mistake is made the restaurant promptly makes it right. Not Thai Ginger. I ordered 2 dishes, both no spice. One was correct & the other not. When I called to ask for a replacement I was told it was my fault that the dish had red pepper flakes all over it. We like to support small local business's. The food is GREAT. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is because of the service. It's our go-to Thai restaurant, but we won't dine in anymore...it's too frustrating. That said, the food is always tasty - Pot Stickers, Pad Thai, Curry Noodles, Pad Ga Prau, Pad Khing - we've enjoyed everything we've had. Easily the best Thai restaurant in North Portland, and perhaps Portland overall. I've gone here for retirement parties, dates, and just for regular lunch during the week. Always top notch! Please do not be thrown off by its location in a tiny strip mall next to Papa Murphy's. This is truly some of the best Thai food in town. I'm so sad to have to write this because for years this was my favorite Thai spot!!!! So....about 1 year ago (last time I went), I went to lunch here, went to the restroom and saw cockroaches everywhere! Including on the sink and soap dispenser! I hate bugs and was disgusted but....since I loved this place, I politely talked with the Server about what I saw. He denied that the bugs were there although I had just saw them for myself! Hopefully this has changed (roaches) and maybe an exterminator has since been out there. read more

Enjoyed Thai peanut sauce curry with chicken. Fantastic. Asked for mild spice, and it was the perfect heat. The fried veggie rolls were just okay. Loved the Thai tea. Space was noisy at lunch, but I didn't mind this. Lots of work groups at noon midweek. Service was good, kept my water full. Tom Kah/kha soup overwhelming smelled and tasted like fish sauce with a hint of lemon grass with just a few veggies floating around. The spring rolls tasted like they are mad quite a bit in advance-- the wrapper was dry and actually split up the side of them before I had even taken a bite. The yellow curry was like watery, runny soup with scarce vegetables added. However, I will say I thought the customer service was good and it looks like a nice atmosphere inside. I placed an order last week to get home and three items were missing. I ordered a lot of food spending over $70.00. The whole order was supposed to to be Vegan. One item was ended up not being Vegan. When I called them to let them know 3 things were missing and the drunkin noodles were not vegan as they were supposed to be. They got mad at me!! And said well there was no meat just eggs not that big of a deal and when I explained it was a big deal for a vegan they hung up the phone on me. I called back and asked to speak with a manager they hung up again. I have never had such absolutely terrible service. My family and I have been going to Thai Ginger for quite some time. I will NEVER return to this restaurant. They also on the phone said well you didn't spend much money here. What does that have to do with anything?? Not to mention...
