Great option for lunch, dinner or take away. I had forgotten all about That Hut 2. Years ago I used to go here for lunch. I just rediscovered the best Thai in Tacoma, which is saying a lot. The lunch menu is expansive and well priced. The dinner (take away) portions seemed smaller than most by about 15%, which surprised me. Ordered a Tom Yum Seafood soup and after eating it for a few minutes we found a piece of black hair about 5 inches long in it! No doubt it isn't mine as my hair is passed shoulder length and mostly blonde and the cooks in the kitchen don't wear hair nets! BEST Thai in Tacoma. Really. My husband and I went to Thailand last year, and this is by far the closest thing to "authentic." Don't let the strip-mall location throw you off! The service is amazing, just as wonderfully friendly as Thai people were on our trip. My husband loves the red curry, I'm a fan of the yellow. This place was delicious! Came here for the first time not expecting too much but to my surprise the Phad Thai was really good. The spring rolls weren't anything too special but the peanut sauce was what really got me! The best peanut sauce by far I ever had and I eat a lot of Thai food. Say what you want about this place but for me... I cannot find one thing wrong to say about this place! It all started one night in a dark and stormy night... no seriously it was dark and stormy but I guess it's Washington so every night is dark and stormy but I digress. We were feening for some Thai food and have driven by this place many a nights we decided lets try it. Immediately I new it was a good move walking in the door and greeted by the nicest little lady I've met since moving here. "Hi honey" is the standard greeting and while we all get fake greetings this woman was real. They really are THAT NICE. And the food... very good. I've ate their three times and always get great service and food is fresh no matter what we order. I love the Pad Thai, "what a feeling" and their curry dishes. Fried rice is pretty tasty as well although I admit not a huge fan of their version of the spicy basil but still not bad. I usually get level 3 spicy level out of 5 and its not an issue so if you like spicy don't be afraid to go higher. Price wise is what you expect. Parking there can be a bit tricky on the weekends so be prepared. Overall, I've said it before great service, fresh food and competitive pricing trumps zagat rating places anytime for me. I always came to this place if I wanted something close to Cambodian food. Last time I went, they brought out the food, nothing was even touched or ate; my son got sick and threw up on his plate from coughing out the sticky rice and we weren't sure if it got on any food. My husband called someone over cause I told him too and they moved the food while I cleaned my sons mess and the whole table so they wouldn't have too. Went to check our food and some had splashes of throw up in it, I only asked to package the fried rice. Mind you, I ordered Laab, fried ribs, fried chicken, sticky rice, pad see ew, fried rice. Totaling about $70. The main lady wouldn't even help us out or checked to see if we were okay, didn't thank us for cleaning our mess & lastly still made us pay FULL PRICE for food that was untouched and possibly had throw up. One of her coworkers even tried to ask us to reorder and pay DOUBLE! One of the servers helped us out and was so kind. She definitely felt bad and was in shocked herself that her boss did something like that. The foods great but as regulars who normally go there, they did some faulty moves and I couldn't believe it. A simple "are you guys okay?" or "Thank you so much for cleaning. I hope your sons okay but you're still going to have to pay full price." would have been understandable. This place is the SPOT for a lunch time Thai food craving. Really good prices on their lunch items. Dinner time seems to be more expensive and less food (like having to pay for rice...) so I usually avoid it during dinner time. Yet, there isn't a thing on the menu that isn't great here and the service is really good. read more

My husband and I are usually leery about trying new Thai restaurants but this place did not disappoint. Delicious Phad Thai Chicken as well as sweet and sour chicken! And HUGE portions so we have two meals from one. We also tried their warm Jasmine tea which was delicious and only $1.00 with refills. We will definitely return whenever we are on this side of town. I love this place! I live in Seattle so I tend to compare all Thai to my favorites up there, but I always stop here when I'm in Tacoma. So, if you're in the mood for some fun, cheap food, definitely go here. They do tend to be a bit spicier than what some people are used to, but i like my Thai spicy, so I've never minded. read more

I travel here for work a couple times a year and I ALWAYS hit this restaurant. Simply amazing! A well kept secret.

I went here with a friend and her family. They were pretty busy, so the servers seemed a little over-worked, but definitely did their best to handle it. All of us very very satisfied with our food, but the highlight was the chicken fried rice that they ordered for the kids to share. It was way more than enough for 2 young boys and it was very good. My green curry was pretty good as well, though not spicy at all considering it was a 7/10 (I was told 1-5 was "American spicy" and 6-10 was "Thai spicy," but after adding some of the hot peppers was just right. The eggplant was undercooked, but that's pretty minor. They were very nice to the kids, which was nice considering that one is only a year and a half old and, well, if you've ever given a baby rice, you know what happens to the floor. read more

Atmosphere it basic, kitchen in viewable from the dining area (which could be a good thing :). We had two different curries here, red and yellow. My husband said his was awesome, but my red curry tasted strongly of bamboo shoots, almost like the juice was used. It was a little off but still tasted decent. I am beyond impressed with how amazingly delicious my food was! I ordered the golden cashew tofu (cashew chicken but with tofu) and the tofu was cooked perfect, not slimy, harder on the outsides. The sauce was so good! I usually don't eat a whole restaurant portion of food and save for later, but that was impossible. Ate the whole thing AND was licking what sauce I could grab on my fork because it was just so good. I got their fried spring rolls, they were perfect as well. My mother and I are Thai and I absolutely love their beef salad, papaya salad (thai style) and the pad khee Mao. Remind me of the time when I'm in Thailand eating at a night market!! Came here to order pad kee mao and was disappointed. There was barely any noodles! It was all vegetables and bamboo shoots. Moderately priced and reasonably tasty, this restaurant will satisfy a quick urge for your Thai craving, without breaking the bank. There is the staff, one of which is shrill and very talkative - sort of a Jersey meets nasal tone, but the server was polite and helpful. To their credit/disadvantage, there is Wifi. On the day I chose to dine there seem to be a permanent fixture of a self important I.T. fellow, who talked loudly (and condescendingly) on his phone, and spent the rest of his time acting like he was the only one there. If you see what seems to be a heavy set woman with long, unkempt hair, try to sit far away from him, unless lonely and tragic computer geeks are your thing. My main and favorite Thai dish, Tod Mun, is served here. They use shrimp instead of fish, which is ok, but not too impressive. The sauce that comes with is burried under sprouts and such, which might be a regional variation. Not bad, but the ratio of sauce to cakes is a little off. In all, probably a great place for take-out, and it might take a few tries to find your favorites, but it's pretty decent. Perhaps the best part is that no matter what type of meat you get with your dish, you can count on the fact that it won't be that disgusting fatty meat you usually get in Asian dishes. Update to previous: I got a call from Thai Hutt, mentioning a customer mentioned my post and explaining that they were not open on Monday and don't have a website. So points for caring and getting in touch (how'd they get my number?), but the point still applies. Invest $30 into your life's business at the very least for a prerecorded message stating your hours. If you want to overachieve, pay someone $100 to build a minimal website stating the same and more! If you want to really thrive, read reviews and improve, maybe even respond to some. I look forward to trying the food... not on a Monday! read more

My husband and I visited here last night for the first time and it was WONDERFUL. I haven't had Thai since moving to Tacoma from Idaho, and am very happy to have met Pranee and learn of her restaurant. We will definitely be back! The food was wonderful, even without a lot of spice it was still very flavorful. Service was very fast and very friendly. My husband even remarked on how polite the staff was. The. Best. Thai. Food. EVER. I haven't found one that can compares in all of west coast Washington. I have tried virtually all their dishes, my favorite is the Khee Mao Noodles (drunken noodles) it's very flavorful, and the Curry Salmon cooked in a Young Coconut. When I lived in Washington I would eat here up to 2 times a week after my work. Great food, amazing prices. You also have alot of freedom with the Spicy ratings for your food. 1-6 is "American Spicy", 7+ is "Thai Spicy", and you pay more for the amount of chilies, if your dish is over 19+ spiciness. I usually order my meals between 9-11 spicy and I love spicy food. The owner is a cute and funny and has a very distinctive voice, I miss her and I miss this restaurant!!! read more

I decided to stop here based on other reviews and am so glad I did! The workers are very friendly, and the food was great. I ordered a yellow curry with beef and jasmine rice. Not only was the serving large, it was filled with beef! Lots of times places will serve a few pieces of beef with a lot of potatoes. There is no skimping on the meat here. Plus my Thai iced team was delicious. I would definitely recommend eating here. read more
