To me, Thai food is like Chinese takeout. There are restaurants everywhere, but it's difficult to find a place that does it exceptionally well. On a night when my husband and I found ourselves craving some Thai food, we took a chance on the Yelp algorithm of suggestions and landed at the Thai Shack's door. The weekday lunch special is a great deal. A light salad and spring roll are served with some preselected entrees, and it's here I have to give the peanut dressing some hearty props. I don't know what they put in that sauce, but it was all I could do to keep myself from licking that little bowl clean. For our entrees, we both went with noodles. I was initially disappointed that the serving size seemed smaller than expected, but don't let the plate fool you - it's enough. At least, it was for me because I felt full well before I reached the bottom. My beef pad see ew was incredible, with tender pieces of beef and a delectable sauce that made me want to spoon it over rice. My husband also liked his pad thai, with lots of soft chicken pieces. If we had any compunctions with our meal, it was that our noodles were a little heavily sauced and teetering just slightly on the salty side. Service here is friendly. That, along with the cozily dressed interior, makes dining in a pleasure. I was especially appreciative that water glasses are filled from water bottles instead of tap (say what you want about food in Jersey, but the taste of its unfiltered tap water is absolute trash). The kind woman who took our order was open to small customizations (such as undressed salad and added spice in my pad see ew, which is normally presented as a non-spicy dish).

Eating a meal at Thai Shack is like eating a home-cooked meal from your mother or grandmother... made with love! I've been coming here occasionally since 2019. It's a small hole in the wall business located on Teaneck's Cedar Lane. There are only four tables inside, so it's more for take-out. Everything is reasonably priced, so you can get a delicious meal with big portions for a great value. My favorite dishes are any of the noodle and curry entrees. Recently, I was craving Thai food and stopped by for an early dinner. I was originally going to take my food to go, but I decided to eat in. I'm so happy I did because I finally got to meet and chat with Ting, the owner! AND GOSHHHH SHE IS SUCH A SWEET WOMAN. Very warm and inviting. She checked in on me throughout my meal. I ordered... *Pad See Ew with chicken (~$14) - One of my favorite Thai noodles dishes! It's stir-fried wide rice noodles with a sweet and savory flavor. The soy and oyster sauce gives it most of the flavor. My only complaint is that I wish there was more chicken in it. *Tom Yum Koong with shrimp (~$7) - This is a spicy herb soup with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, lime juice, and mushroom. I requested the spice level to be mild and it still had the perfect kick. The broth was also tangy, which I loved. I wish there was more shrimp though - there was only one piece and too many mushrooms. And to finish off, I ALWAYS sip on a Thai Iced Tea... always always always... and theirs hits the spot every time!

Happened to find this spot through DoorDash and they delivered what was the best green chicken curry I've ever had! There was just something about it that is different than any other place I've had it at. Spring rolls were delicious too. Will definitely be ordering more from here.

Solid Thai food and very reasonable prices. Honestly, it's hard to find Thai restaurants in this neck of Bergen County. They are definitely far and few in between, but when I stumbled upon Thai Shack via a Yelp search and saw all of the positive reviews, I just HAD to drop in to feed my Thai food craving! The restaurant, which still isn't open for dine-in (as of Feb. 2022), is located on Cedar Lane, which is a main road, in Teaneck. If you're here for pickup, which basically everyone is, street parking will be your only option when stopping by. What I loved most about Thai Shack, even before my taste buds had a chance to test drive their food, was the fact that they have a Lunch Specials menu! Not uncommon, but it's always my favorite way of trying out a restaurant. If the Lunch Specials are not good, I tend to just skip them. In addition, the prices of the Lunch Specials ($10-$11) here are shockingly on par or even less expensive than most fast food Thai restaurants. The Lunch Specials, which go from 12-3pm daily, and are served with a salad (w. peanut dressing) and spring roll, consists of the usual that you will see at other Thai restaurants - Curries served with Rice, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Thai Fried Rice, etc - no surprises. We ended up ordering a few of the Lunch Specials to try - Pad Thai w/ Chicken, Pad See Ew w/Chicken, Massaman Curry w/ Chicken and the Thai Fried Rice.... you guessed it, with Chicken. The portions of all of the entrees weren't huge, but still very reasonable and filling for a single serving. The Pad Thai was quite delicious and tasty, even though it looked a bit on the bland side at first glance, DON'T LET LOOKS FOOL YOU. Typically, when food doesn't look tasty, it isn't, but not in this case! It had just the right balance of sweet-savory in it and I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and chicken. Honestly, it wasn't the best looking or most elegant presentation, but it was solid. With the Pad See Ew, we loved the flavor and thought it was really good, but on first glance, unlike the Pad Thai, it actually looked as good as it tasted! As for the Thai Fried Rice, solid, but nothing out of the ordinary for a fried rice. It was good for fried rice. And the Massaman Curry w/ Chicken was exceptionally tasty too. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely go for curry because of the strong flavors in them. Overall, a good option if you're craving Thai food. It's not going to blow you away, but it's Thai fast food and it'll hit the spot for you still. I love that the prices aren't overly inflated for the Lunch Specials and still around $10, which I will gladly pay in this day and age of inflation!

This place is really good!! It's been so hard to find a Thai spot that actually makes authentic Thai food. I ordered the drunken noodles and i knew from the moment i opened the container and smelled the spice i knew i had finally found my go to spot. It was incredible! Flavor was on point and they give good portions. Second time i went i got the pineapple fried rice which i was not a huge fan of , however it was still tasty. It wasn't really the traditional pineapple fried rice I'm use to. It had a lot of curry powder like make someone accidentally added too much. It was very overwhelming. My fiancé ordered the thai fried rice and that was really good! Oh and we ordered spring rolls too which were okay. I know there's better out there but for the area and the price this place isn't bad i would definitely go back.

The food is very good. The curry puffs and spring rolls are great appetizers. Pineapple fried rice delicious, drunken noodles fantastic and massaman curry was terrific. Perfect amount of spice and flavor. My only problem is that they do not deliver. You have to pick up or use delivery service. But we make sacrifices for what we live, right? read more

My wife and I fell in love with this place the first time we had it...we've been back for a third time to get the same(30 min drive)...their Massaman curry and Peanut curry. This time we also got the Thai Dumplings and ate them on the ride home. Don't judge us! The Thai Dumplings were hand made and fresh. Def the best I've ever had. Their Peanut Curry is our fave and worth the ride. My wife loves their Pad Thai as well. We've tried all the Thai places in Hudson County and will continue to take the ride to Thai Shack when the cravings comes. A must try! read more

Ordered from the lunch menu multiple times. Entree +1 very small spring roll+ salad all for like 10 bucks (depending on the protein) is such a goood deal for lunch. Practically unheard of nowadays. Of course the food is great too. read more

Ordered here for the first time via Uber eats- portions were good, great flavor, nothing was missing in the delivery. It's very hard to find a good Thai food spot I'm happy to say this place was very yummy. We have been ordering from this place since our regular Thai spot is never open. Now we have found a new favorite! The food here is delish! I like a simple chicken with mixed veggie /Thai Style and they do it the best! (feels like i'm eating healthy. HA!) We also love a pad thai and the curry dishes.. all excellent from here! We'll eventually sit in here one day, but for now, we are picking up delicious Thai Food. They are reliable and open when they say they'll be open! THANK YOU! read more

I am definitely a foodie and work in the food industry myself and have to say i was really pleasantly surprised especially after reading a couple of other reviews which were not the greatest, but great food and even better food temperature , the food was piping HOT when it arrived at my hotel. Thank you ! I ordered through Uber Eats and asked for the Northern Curry Noodle Soup which is not on the Uber Eats menu (Thai shack please take note and fix that as it is truly delicious) . I added the veggie duck, at first i wasn't sure about veggie duck but boy was i wrong , the texture is the same as real duck but less chewy so it's even better and the taste is the same. I also ordered the Basil chili which was a perfect compliment to the soup as i just dipped my veggie duck in the soup and ate it that way .. nice mix of coconut curry and basil chili . The coconut water is fresh coconut water with really big chunks of real coconut in it ! Keep up the good work ! read more

We ordered the lunch specials for Mother's Day per my moms request. The food's aromas made my stomach rumble on the way home because it smelt so good. The flavors were equally amazing. I'm really writing this review to trash the other chick who just wrote one. Kind of douchey to quote Shakespeare in a yelp review and unless you're 15, let's drop the whole "meh" thing. On to the actual review - pretty good moo krap prow, and if you ask for it thai style (minced pork with fried egg on top, they'll do it). As with most Thai places in NNJ, they typically cater to an American palette but a little communication goes a long way to mitigate that. read more

Went to visit this newly opened restaurant last night and ordered the Steamed Thai Dumplings, Papaya Salad, and the Pad See Ew with Shrimp. I asked for the Papaya Salad extra spicy and it was so spicy and delicious and the Pad See Ew was perfectly seasoned. Everything tasted very delicious and the portion sizes were good. Atmosphere of the small restaurant was nice and cozy and is definitely a place I will be going back to visit either on my own or with friends. Super happy that there is an authentic Thai restaurant nearby and can't wait to visit again soon! read more

Saw this popup on ubereats and wanted to try. Glad we did. Ordered padseeeww, clear noodle soup, thai fried rice and massaman curry. All of them tasted authentic and food was also prepared with less oil. We'll probably visit the restaurant one of these days and felt the food tasted excellent. 5 Stars! read more

My husband as I don't dine out much but we have a few select restaurants in our "go-to" arsenal. The Thai Shack is awesome, both dine in and delivery. The sauces are delicious, vegetables are crisp and fresh and the flavors are perfect. They have some unique menu options as well in comparison to other a Thai restaurants. Paired with rice, this was a winning dish. The pad woon sen - a savory glass noodle dish - can also be ordered with one's choice of protein. We liked it well enough with the chicken, and found it to be well-seasoned. Our server brought us some hot chili sauce on the side, and the spice lover in me was only too happy to heap spoonfuls of it over everything. Our interactions with servers were...interesting. One of our servers seemed rather terse and cold, while the other hovered a little more than I would've liked. When he saw me taking out my camera, he reached in to take my fork. He used it and his bare hands to rearrange our appetizers, seemingly for the pictures. It was a raised brow moment for us, as was finding that our coconut shrimp neither tasted remotely close to coconut and that it was still frozen in the middle. We pointed this out to our server, who apologized and took it back. But instead of bringing out a fresh plate, it turned out they'd just refried our original pieces, even the ones we'd half eaten. Much as I'd hate to raise alarms for such a small and homely business, we couldn't help but wonder about whether it was sanitary to recook eaten food in their deep fryer. This restaurant has been described in lots of other reviews as a hole-in-the-wall, which feels true. While it's more spacious on the inside than it seems on the outside, there's a smallness and intimacy to the restaurant. The menu is also fairly short and streamlined to a few categories. There's no dedicated parking lot, but we were able to find free street parking without too much trouble.

Each dish comes with a spring roll, but somehow no dipping sauce! However, if you ask, they have them in little to-go cups. My friend can't handle too much spice so we went with regular spicy, which to me wasn't spicy at all. The vegetables were crunchy and I liked that the noodle still had a good chew and not gummy. Basil sauce was right on the edge of being salty but with rice, it was okay. The food was flavorful, not greasy, and I'm sure would have tasted way better with more heat. The lunch options are pretty basic, but the full menu has a lot more interesting dishes, and based on the taste of the lunch dishes, I plan on trying different dishes in the near future if I'm in the mood for Thai.

We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai, the Chicken Green Curry and the Beef Thai Basil. Everyone loved each of the entrees and especially the pad Thai and curry being the favorites.
