I've been going here for the last decade and the thai food does not disappoint! I always grab drunken noodles, thai fried rice and a bunch of apps. Their specials are also amazing, the goong phuket and thaitanium star are superb. The decor is modern with a twist of traditional thai mixed in. I love that they always try to spice things up with new specials occasionally. The drinks are super yummy and they have a fully stocked bar with my favorite vodka. Service was TERRIBLE. We went there and they sat us, we asked to switch tables to a larger one and they said it was reserved (ps no one came for that reservation while we were there.) Food was good. Pad Thai is banging 100% delicious. Then trying to redeem my belly points (150 for $25 off) they clicked the "x" on the message to show to the server and said I only had 5 pts. It took about 10 minutes to find where the redeemed points went. And they didn't even redeem it right away had to discuss together. This is one of my favorite restaurant and I always order food from here although there's closer one from my house. I ordered from Doordash as a "pickup" not "delivery" so I went to pick it up. They said someone picked it up? I talked to the Manager and all she said was to order through their website next time. Went there by my pick up time and I waited more than 20 mins extra to get my food that had to be made again because somebody took mine. This is a non sense. We believe that great care must still be exercised in where we eat out and when so yesterday we chose to dine out at the Thai Tanium restaurant in the Kentlands Market Square in Gaithersburg Md. Arriving at around 3 P.M. we were greeted by Sai; our hostess and server who escorted us to a nice well cleaned booth. At that hour of day we did not expect to see many other patrons which is what we wanted. We did notice that there were quite a few carryout bags that were going out the door while we dined. We found the food to be excellent as well as Sai's service and we plan to dine there again in the future. I had ordered pork as the protein, but they sent chicken instead. If you are a Thai food lover, you will rave over Thai Tanium! Not only was the service great, the food was incredible and bottled beer is less than $4 a pop! As an appetizer, we ordered the fried dumplings. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was sweet and tangy, which paired well with the savory flavor of the dumplings. I then ordered the Yellow Curry with crispy salmon. I had never tried fried salmon before, but I can confidently say that it did not disappoint! I particularly enjoyed the Yellow Curry because it's not nearly as spicy as the Red or Green, but still had an immense amount of flavor. My family discovered this place thru LocalFlavor, and it has quickly become our favorite go-to Thai restaurant in the entire DC Metro Area. Every time we visit, we make it a buffet by ordering over 7 entrees. We honestly have not found a single thing on their menu that did not taste delicious. The ambience is cozy, the restaurant is very clean and sanitized, the food presentation is nice, and the service is impeccable. It's also located in a fun town center area that is perfect for walking around with the family. My only criticism of this place is that it's an hour drive from our home - but worth it! read more

I suggest getting the Thai tea too! Appetizers that are good are the fried calamari and the golden Triangle ( fried tofu). They also have a special for one soft drink, beer, or wine, one appetizer and one of entree for $20! And when you check in you can get a discount of 20% in on your bill. Went here for the first time (about a month or two ago?!) at the recommendation of my squeeze, & have been back multiple times since. Can't seem to get enough of this place lately! Also, we took my parents here just a few weeks ago & they couldn't stop raving about the place. And let me tell you, they are VERY selective eaters. Now this place might not look like much from the exterior, but let me tell you, the adage of "don't judge a book by its cover" definitely holds true in this case, because this restaurant is unequivocally one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in the DC-MD-VA area, & believe me, I've been to my fair share of them. :) I've NEVER had a bad meal here, & quite frankly, everything I've tried here so far has been excellent. Service is quick & friendly, with the exception of a single waiter who we thankfully haven't had again since. ;-) What to order: Let me break it down course-by-course for ya. ;-) Appetizers: Por Pia Jae & the Potpourri Mussels are decent, but the Yum Ped Yang (honey-roasted duck) is much better, & surprisingly lean. The Chicken Satay is decent as well, but I'm more into exploring dishes that aren't "standard fare" at most Thai restaurants. In fact, that's what I like about this place: While the less adventurous can get appetizers like "Chicken Satay" & main dishes like "Pad Thai," etc., there are also more interesting dishes for those of us who want to go beyond that sort of "same old thing." :) Entrees: I highly recommend the Chef's Specials, especially the "Nua Ka Ting." (Warning: For those of you who need to temper the spice, get this dish with 1 star. I am used to eating hot & spicy foods, & usually get 2 stars, which has more heat than most people can handle. And 3 stars, while I've yet to try it here, is apparently supposed to be blow-your-head-off hot! ;-) Even the wait staff, who are of Thai extraction, will usually caution people against getting 3 stars. ;-) ) The Panang Shrimp & Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) are also excellent; you can also get these dishes with other meat/vegetarian selections (chicken, beef, tofu, or mixed vegetables, etc.) as well. There are several other dishes that I've yet to try that look quite tasty as well. For example, I've heard that the Steamed Rock Fish is supposed to be very good, so I can't wait to try it! Desserts: The "Coconut Custard" is a winner for dessert. It's not what most Westerners expect a traditional custard to be, so don't expect a dollop of something colored artificially yellow to arrive in a bowl. :) This is Thai custard, a wonderfully creamy delight that will have you coming back for more. :) This is the only dessert I've tried thus far, as I don't typically order dessert unless it's a special occasion or I've put in a lot of weekly running mileage. ;-) However, I've heard that the Mango and Sticky Rice is also supposed to be excellent. Also, a general word to the wise: The wait staff really do give excellent (& highly appropriate) recommendations, so if you're looking to try something different, or have a specific requirement (i.e., nothing fried, vegetarian food, etc.), you can be confident that they will steer you in the right direction. This is a family favorite, and while it may not be the most authentic Thai food, it's pretty darn delicious. My family and I often come here and order any number of standard Thai dishes, all of which are delicious by my standards. Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Panang curry, Pad Ka Pow, Pad Kee Mao - they've all been great, with meat or with tofu. The portions are quite generous - even when we share dishes there are often leftovers - so I consider the prices good. They have a menu dedicated to vegetarians, and options that will please even picky eaters like some of my family members. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the ambience is casual but usually not too noisy, even on busy days. They were busy on a Saturday night, which is always a good sign. We ordered chicken satay, thai fish cake and fried calamari for appetizers, but none of them really stood out. For entrees we got the Thaitanium steak, seafood fried rice and shrimp with asparagus. The seafood fried rice was the only dish that stood out for me, while the Thaitanium steak was too sweet, and the shrimp with asparagus was bland. The $20 special is decent, however the dishes (besides the fried rice) just seemed too average. Be on the lookout for discounts/coupons in Groupon, Livingsocial and fliers - you can't combine that with the $20 special, but it's a consolation that makes up for the average food. read more

Was sold by the name, not the grub. I am a lover of pad thai, and was not impressed by my lunch. I ordered pad thai with tofu, and the tofu seemed more fried, squishy, chewy, and hollow inside. The flavor of the sauce was a bit more sweeter side. It wasn't horrible, but I've definitely had better and didn't eat a whole lot of it. Places like Lemongrass Thai in Alexandria VA, Thai House in Gaithersburg and Thai Chili in DC have been on my go-to list. Thai Tanium is a great place to take visiting family and friends, and makes a good date night. My boyfriend and I went there on a snowy Saturday afternoon, I heard a great review from a co worker and knew I had to visit. The decor is kinda dark and dim, there is a small bar to the left of you when you first enter, and when i say small i mean small. It looked like the bar area was also the spot for people who called in an order to pick up as well. Booths line the restaurant and tables gather in the middle. White napkins, wine glasses on the table... ya know. Nice look, but I wouldn't actually par take in there wine. My server seemed to be totally uninteresting even after I told him it was our first time visiting and I had high expectations. He mumbled and didn't recommend anything..very poor. I ordered the chicken and shrimp pad Thai and my boyfriend ordered the beef with rice noodles or something. Everything tasted fresh, great seasoning and I had PLENTY. He finished his whole entire meal and I had left overs for lunch. My noodles were cooked great, the shrimp were plump and the chicken did not taste rubbery. I've been here many times before and thought the food was fantastic. It was a Friday night and my sister and I were craving some Thai food. We got there and were seated right away next to the hostess stand. We looked at the menu and had a hard time deciding because they had a special for a drink, appetizer, and entrée. We couldn't agree on what to get to share. So my sister got the deal and ordered Riesling, angel wing, and beef green curry with extra vegetables. I order the chicken pad Thai The appetizer came with 3 pieces and overall it was good because it was fried with sweet and sour sauce on top. The green curry came out and it didn't look that appetizing, it was a little spicy, the beef was dry, but the curry itself tasted good. The pad Thai was just how I remembered it and tasted delicious. The only thing was that it was hard to find the chicken. Its doesn't taste the same as other placed, but I like it this way. Why have I never been here before? Tonight my sister and I decided to order a few different things and share. Yay! So glad because everything was yummy!!! When you "check in" on Yelp, you get an order of veggie spring rolls for FREE! Make sure you check the bill when it comes because this place was super busy at 7:45pm on a Wednesday night and they did charge me for the spring rolls but were very apologetic when I pointed it out. The veggie spring rolls were perfectly cooked. Just carrots and vermicelli noodles. An order is $6 for three so it was pleasant surprise. :) I wanted to try something new so when I saw the Hoi Jor on the specials menu I thought it sounded different. Definitely a good call. Crab meat and minced pork wrapped in dried tofu for $7. Think of it as a dumpling wrapped with a sheet of tofu and then fried. Yum! The dipping sauce was a sweet fish sauce and a perfect match. Continuing on the trying new things theme, I decided on the Yum Ped Yang. This version was a honey roasted duck spicy salad. No fruit but with tomatoes, ginger, lime and scallions. Other versions have mango and I bet that would be heavenly! My sister loves spicy but the red chili paste had her mouth on fire! A yummy choice for $9. Since I made the earlier choices my sister decided to choose something she really liked like pad thai or drunken noodles. The chicken pad thai was $11 but as I am not a fan, we went with the drunken noodles with beef for $12. Oh my goodness...I think this was the best I have eaten. The noodles were thick rice noodles, the beef was plentiful and the green beans were so tender, I thought they were tiny hot peppers! I don't remember the last time I had a dish with so many pepper slices...usually I am left wanting more. Everything was so good and we ate it all! My only complaint is I wish the servings were a little larger! Ha! I debated on 5 stars but veggie spring rolls were crunchy but nothing I would ever order on my own and I think there were only 2 servers tonight and I felt a little forgotten even though we sat in the middle of the restaurant. We were going to order the mango sticky rice for dessert but felt that we had already spent more time than we wanted there. Maybe next time...because I will definitely be back!!! read more

This place is very good. I do not have a lot of knowledge about Thai cooking or what is good and what is bad. All I know is that I like Chicken Pad Thai and am allergic to shell fish, so I can not have half of what is on the menu. I still go to Thai Tanium and get the same thing, Chicken Pad Thai. It is always consistent. The chicken on a stick and the veg egg rolls are very, very good, but also a bit pricey. The atmosphere is very warm and the plates are modern and food arrangement is done artfully. In the warmer months, there may be a live band outside on Friday and Saturday nights, so plan accordingly; noise or go another night. Service is prompt and friendly. The owner is a great guy and when my father asked where they got the light up, water filled, bubbling giant Corona Bottle on the bar, he offered to order my Dad one at cost, and did, and it's in my father's basement. Take my review with a grain of salt since I do not know much about Thai cuisine nor can I eat shell fish. read more

Gaithersburg seems to be very hit or miss in terms of certain types of ethnic foods. You won't find many good Mexican or Italian restaurants here but you will find several good Mediterranean and Thai restaurants. Thai Tanium has quickly rocketed to the top of my list for best take out in Gaithersburg. I could walk here from my current residence and the food here has always been awesome. Just about every time we order from here we try something new and are never disappointed. The food here is always consistent which is something you many not get at other similar places. I have dined in here twice. Nothing special. Service is usually adequate and they have a nice bar and cozy dining room. Here are some high points from their menu: Appetizers: Spring rolls - Standard, good but not exceptional. Kanom Jeep - pretty good; nice appetizer to get to fill your belly up so you don't eat your whole entree (because you will want to, trust me) Chicken Satay - tender cut of chicken with delicious peanut sauce; one of my favorites Yum Ped Yang - my least favorite so far; they got too happy with the fish sauce and overall the dish was too bitter for me. Entrees: Their curries are the best part of the menu. Their panang curry is probably one of the best I have had at any Thai restaurant. I feel real sympathy for anyone with a peanut allergy who can never taste this curry. The yellow curry is pretty good too and make sure you get it with the crispy salmon. Pad See Eaw is delicious as well and also worth ordering. You really can't go wrong here since I have never had anything bad from their menu. This place was formerly at 3.5 stars and glad to see they have been elevated to 4 stars. Based on my experiences here they probably deserve a 4.5. read more

While the food here is decent (I order the same thing every time), the service stinks. In particular, there's an older short lady (salt and pepper hair) that is downright rude. I went yesterday to pick up take out and she was rude and dismissive to me for the 3rd and final time. This was my first visit during covid; all other visits (at least a dozen) were precovid (lack of service can't be blamed on Covid). Anyway, I won't be spending my coins here EVER again. I stopped in to grab a quick take-out dinner not too long ago and I was really happy I did. Thai is one of my favorite ethnic foods and we are always on the hunt for a great Thai restaurant whenever we travel. I've found that pad thai is the easiest way to get a feel for the rest of the menu. If you can't get that right, you're in trouble. So guess what I had... My food was prepared quickly and the staff was extremely friendly. When I got home I found that the food was still piping hot and smelled great! One bite and I was sold. Just the right amount of sauce, peanuts and sprouts. I usually try and go slowly with eating the chicken to make sure I don't eat all of it, but that was not an issue here. It was loaded with chicken. My only complaint was that there wasn't as much tofu as I like, but that's it. The portion size for the price was perfect. Just enough that I had some for lunch the next day. I will certainly be back. read more

If you're not sued to very spicy, you should probably have them tone it down a notch. I found myself reaching for the water throughout the meal. I usually order the beef drunken noodle b/c I find the beef to be more tender than the chicken. The chicken was very dry when I ordered it so I think I will stick with the beef next time. The fish cake came with a delicious cucumber, onion, sweet and sour sauce. It also had a bit of a kick to it but wasn't too spicy. Delicious but I prefer the shrimp cakes over the fish cakes! They neither asked us for our spice level which is the right thing to do and these were mouth watering.
