Wow..never been to this place before because it's a little put of the way from where I live/usually frequent! But I'm glad I finally had a chance to stop by and indulge on their food! I liked that everything on their menu was vegan! I mean...usually when I think of western/American vegan food..I think of bland/fried food. So..I was glad this Thai restaurant was able to transport vegan Thai food (and faux meat!) that Thai people actually ate in Thailand here!..not just plain boring tofu at all! The place is on a small side but very cozy feelings and with plenty of easy parking. I was so glad to try this with my vegan friend who recommended we check it out. Thai Vegan is great. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy, with warm lighting and fun wall colors. The staff is nice too. Food-wise, it's amazing to have an entire vegan Thai menu with multiple protein choices and no need to worry about fish oil or sauce hidden in any of the dishes. They have good curry, appetizers, fried chick'n and orange chick'n, larb salad which I don't think I've found vegetarian anywhere else, or maybe once, American dishes as well, good tofu, and more. I like the red rice that they put in a heart shape. The mango with sticky rice is yummy. I'm not a big fan of the pepper steak due to its lacking of flavor and tough texture, or some of the seafood, but it's great to have all the vegan protein options. read more

Lively interior. Staff is kind. Dining room is a bit cramped. Menu is abundant and provides a wide variety of options to vegans. Red curry was okay. Tons and tons of vegetables (I subbed veggies instead of tofu or the other mock protein options). The carrots were extra delicious and sweet. The curry itself was a bit more on the savory side which I why I call it okay vs great. The consistency was on the thicker side which my palate prefers. Side salad was fair, nothing special. Bathroom needed some serious attention. TP missing, sink faucet isn't oriented for correct operation. Paper towels empty. Wait time was acceptable. IMO, prices are a bit high for some items. I can't believe I've never written a review of this place before. It is one of my favorites. It's hidden a bit off the beaten path and the entrance might not be obvious, they had an interesting setup for to-go during the pandemic and some of that is still there. But if you want good Thai food, even if you're not vegan you have to check this place out. They have the variety of fake meats - I confess fake fish and shrimp are my favorites. The dishes are all amazing. The pad thai is always my go-to and I have a hard time trying other things but every time I have, I've been very glad I did. The thai iced tea is also incredible. The staff has always been very friendly and happy to give you time with the menu or provide recommendations. Portions are quite large and end up being multiple meals for me. If you like Thai food you really have to give this place a try and don't let the fact that 'vegan' is in the name deter you if you're a meat eater!! read more

I somehow let a group of vegans convince me to try this food out. They said it was "amazing" and "out of this world"...and honestly...anything that is fried is going to taste good. Literally everything they ordered for the table was fried. I might as well have gone to Popeyes. So...I mean....do I want fried tofu chicken or a double cheeseburger? After ordering take away the last half dozen times, we finally decided to dine in. And as good as I thought their food was after sitting in an Uber-eats delivery vehicle for 15-20 minutes, it's even better fresh from the kitchen. I continue to be impressed with the quality of their vegan "meat." It brings substance, flavor, texture and protein to the dish. This time I ordered a large noodle dish. The noodles were perfectly cooked and well coated with sauce. The veggies were properly stir fried--cooked and crisp at the same time. The food is quite spicy but the heat did not overpower the rest of the ingredients. A quick squeeze of lime added some acid to cut the richness and brighten the overall flavor. Don't overlook this place just because it has vegan in it's name. By a friend's recommendation, we dined at Thai Vegan and I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. I ordered the dinner combo which includes an entree of your choice (limited options), a side salad, and two eggrolls. The portion size was large and I could not finish my entire meal. I had the Pad Thai with tofu and it was absolutely scrumptious. I love that this dish was far from bland. I got to try the chicken (soy) satay and you wouldn't even know it wasn't real chicken. Although I didn't have the curry here, I saw my friend's husband order it and the rice comes in a heart shape - just a cute little touch! We ended the night with coconut ice cream which was a dream. Not too sweet, full of coconut flavor, and the icy goodness just melts in your mouth. The only reason for the subtraction of one star is service. We had to wait quite a long time in order for our bill to be given and processed. Overall though, the staff here are very friendly! Definitely would recommend - it's a solid Thai place! read more

Thai Vegan is truly a vegan-only spot. I hadn't been here in 10+ years, but it has been in this shopping center since I can remember. One downside is that the portions can be so large that when taking them home, the soy protein doesn't reheat well and becomes rubbery (I learned the hard way with reheating my Tom Kah Kai). My partner and I came here, and he only got some appetizers as he doesn't like soy-based plant meat, so our choice of food was not a great spot for us. Unbelievable! And yes the proteins here are all vegan-based, but you won't miss it. In fact, it's probably better for all of us anyway...to do vegan a few days a week anyway... An escape to Thailand as soon as you open the door. (Well, truth be told I've not visited there but it's what I'd imagine.). It's very inviting and the staff is friendly. I also feel it attracts friendly guests, as well. While I do not eat chicken, beef, or pork - I have not sought out vegan places as I thought they may lack flavor. I was impressed with every morsel and it was so fun to look at the entire menu without having to read the fine print (for flesh)! Give it a try whether you're a vegan, omnivore, or what have you. This is a cute little place with a lot of charm in a strip mall off Osuna in the NE Heights. We both got the "chicken" larb to go. It was my first experience with larb, and I had looked online at how the dish is usually prepared. Traditionally, and as other Thai restaurants in Albuquerque, larb is usually a ground meat mixture. Thai Vegan's larb had cuts of soy "meat", then large chunks of slightly steamed or raw veggies with a bit of lettuce. The description is "S12 - Larb Chicken Salad. $14.95. Selected soy meat tossed in lime juice, chili, red onion, carrot, cilantro, and parched rice on a bed of salad." I enjoyed the flavors of the lime juice and chili with the fresh vegetables. Our larb did not come with the parched rice, and there were only a very few small pieces of lettuce. The amount of onion was very high. I'm still interested in trying a traditional larb at another Thai restaurant, but wouldn't get this selection again from Thai Vegan. The restaurant was charming and the service friendly. They also have a consistently high rating, so I'd try Thai Vegan again and select another dish. read more

I love Thai food, so discovering an all vegan Thai spot in ABQ was like hitting the jackpot. Their menu is extensive, so being that I only had one night in town it was very hard to narrow down what I wanted to try. Chicken Satay - not what I expected visually but the taste, texture, and flavors exceeded all of my expectations. The peanut sauce was excellent! I'd 10/10 order this again. Spicy Fried Rice - ordered with soy fish at spice level 4. It was hella spicy, but I loved every bite. I spent a lot of time sucking air, so maybe I should pipe down to level 3 next time. Flavors were phenomenal and the vegan fish was quite tasty. There were too many green bell peppers in this dish; that's my only small picky issue. Prices were fairly reasonable. I hate to say it but the food I received from this place was just really really bad. I'm used to authentic Thai food in LA and this sadly was just not it. The tofu in my spicy basil was overcooked to the point it was tough and rubbery, and my dish wasn't spicy at all despite the fact I ordered it Thai Spicy. For $16 the portion was surprisingly small and was swimming in oil. The rice they use here is weird, it's not traditional jasmine rice or even white rice. They also skimp on filling the rice containers to the top. The rice I received was 3/4 loosely full, not the tightly packed full containers most places give. I ordered 3 entrees and every rice was like this. Just overall food was lackluster, which is sad to say in a review because I always appreciate a vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurant. I missed Thai Vegan in San Antonio, and ever since they closed down, I haven't had authentic vegan Thai food. So I was overjoyed to find my favorite dish, Pad Woon Sen with vegan fish, on the menu here at Thai Vegan in Albuquerque. The flavors were fantastic, although I wished it was more spicy. The staff provided extra Sriracha upon request. I was so happy to have discovered Thai Vegan so I had the chance to have my favorite dishes once more. Let me start by saying that I've been hearing wonderful things about this place for years but had never gotten around to trying it. For my first dive in I tried the fresh ginger with soy chicken. I was really impressed by the soy chicken and it tasted really good. That along with the wonderful mix of stirfried mushrooms, fresh ginger, green onions, and bell peppers and whatever sauce they make, is absolutely outstanding. Now I know what all the hubbub is about! We also had some spring rolls, stuffed with cabbage, carrot, mung bean noodles, and shiitake mushrooms all served with a sweet chili sauce. These were easily some of the best spring rolls I've ever had. All in all, this place is a party in your mouth and a really wonderful treat if you want some delicious vegetarian food. Their meat substitutes are tasty and complement the vegetables and the sauce. If you've never tried vegetarian food this would be an awesome place for your first taste. The food and service is awesome. There used to one in Santa Fe where i live, now i drive to Albuquerque to experience their lovely dishes.

I was in the area and saw this place. Without looking at any reviews, I thought I'd take a gamble and try their Thai. I was so happy I did. I walked in and requested take-out. They have lunch and dinner specials that include brown rice (awesome) and spring rolls with a bit of salad. I opted for my all-time favorite, green curry. My food came quickly and I paid a reasonable 11.50 or so with tax. At home I quickly opened the box and was pleased, the taste was even better. I requested soy chicken and was skeptical, but it was delicious. The only quasi-negative for me is that there was very little curry broth/sauce. In the Midwest, curry is almost always served in a bowl with rice on the side to use in eating the broth. So far in Albuquerque, I've tried three Thai restaurants and it's always similar to this one - just enough sauce to cover the veggies and protein but not anything more. I will go back, the quality and prices were right on par and the taste was amazing. read more

I'm not vegan and I'm obsessed! The thai tea was creamy and delicious, I am a huge Thai tea fan and I think this one was my favorite so far. The pineapple fried rice was also so delicious. We did a take-out order one evening through their online ordering system and the food was ready at the requested time. We got: -Red curry with soy steak ($11.95) and requested it Thai spicy. It was medium spicy at best, but the flavours were rich, complex and savoury. Very decadent and delicious red curry. 4.5/5 -See-Ew Stir-Frier with soy chicken ($11.95). The noodles were a tad rubbery, but pleasant overall and came with lots of veggies. The soy chicken texture was also a bit rubbery, but not bad. Good dish overall, but not the best execution of this classic style. 4/5 -Stir-fried vegetables with tofu ($10.95). You get a nice variety of veggies (broccoli, cabbage, carrot, zucchini, onion, etc.), deep fried tofu, and a nice garlicy soy sauce. Very solid. 4.5/5 All in all, this was great food. We wished they made things spicier -- perhaps I just really need to insist that things be insanely spicy to get the spice level we want.
