This was my first time back since the remodel. They updated the restaurant with more modern wall arts and moved the front counter. The walk arts are nice but it lost its charm. With the menu board, it feels like fast food less sit down style. Service has changed as well. Now, you place your order and PAY at the counter and seat yourself. You are asked to tip before you receive service. tipping is supposed to be base on quality of service. You do receive table service once your food is ready. The menu has changed as well. We loved the jerky and sticky rice, now gone! Fish cakes is new but it was too chewy and dry with little flavor. Shrimp cocktail and dumplings were good. This was the only Thai restaurant in town that served good Thai rice noodle soup similar to pho. Sadly it's no longer the case. It was bland! Traditional beef soup included meatballs, now gone. They also charge ridiculous prices for some add-ons such as crushed peanuts $2.00 per order!! Really, for 2 ppl we could have bought a whole jar. Service ended up being good especially since we were the only patrons. I low balled the tip at time of order and ended up giving additional tip in cash. Sadly to say, it's off our list of favorite restaurant in town. Probably will not go back. read more

First time to this Thai place. Wife got yellow curry spice 2, I got the Thai Basil fried rice with chicken. Cold day, time for soup - or something close. So Thai fits the bill and we're close to here so a stop is in order. Entrance is in the back so we had to drive around the block to get to parking and the entry. It's a walk up counter to order and menus are in a stand so you can decide before you get to the counter. We got Imperial rolls (4 to an order) to start, Red Curry with pork and Green Curry with chicken. Both ordered with medium heat. Plus the obligatory Thai Tea - it was smooth, not overly sweet or bitter. The Imperial Rolls arrived, followed by our entrees. The Red Curry was well spiced, loaded with pork, & flavorful. Heat was lower end of moderate. Likewise the Green Curry. I wasn't a fan, not caring for the taste. The wife liked it so... The FOOD? Oh my! It is outstanding. Orchid on every plate. Everything my dining companions selected was, without a doubt the perfect selection. I so wanted to ask to trade, or just have a bite or two, but I wasn't willing to give up a single morsel of mine. If you had seen and tasted it you would understand why I was being selfish. It was that good. The solution is to come back and try all their dishes. The SERVICE? Polite, professional and fast. Couldn't ask for anything more. Our server never missed a beat. The AMBIANCE? Comfortable. A little stark. Tile and metal. But clean and without a doubt their concentration is on the outstanding food - where it should be. You can pick the spice level, which is a plus. There is off street parking and a dedicated lot in the back. The lot is gated, which is a plus due to the location (on central). I've been vegan for 14 years and have never eaten pork in my life, so biting into a pork eggroll wasn't a great first impression of this restaurant. I've lived in the neighborhood for 23 years so I was around when Orchid opened. We went with some frequency and really liked the place, though the service was lacking in quality at the time. Something happened, I don't remember what, and we stopped going. So it's been 10+ years easily since we've been there. We love Thai Cuisine II across the street. We were heading there for dinner one night and turned out. They were closed so we decided to go across the street to Orchid. Long story, short, it was excellent! I had the green curry with seafood & vegetables add pineapple. It was exquisite. The curry was silky and everything tasted fresh and done to perfection. Friends had the Mongolian beef & the pepper steak. The Mongolian beef was a favorite of mine back in the day. My friend who had it was very excited about the food and the place and expressed a lot of gratitude for introducing him and his wife to a new place that they look forward to frequenting. She also loved her pepper steak. I tasted them both and they were excellent. It's now an order-at-the-counter place. I'm guessing that, like so many other places, it's hard to get, keep & be dependent on wait staff these days. With that said the counter ordering service is nice. The last two times I've been there. The gentleman behind the counter was knowledgeable and very helpful to me in deciding what to order and what to add to it. The food arrival was timely and the server pleasant. The dining room is crisp & clean. The tables are well spaced, looks like remnants of Covid era. The decor is simple and comfortable. For what it is, I give it a 4+ out of five. read more

It looked small but inviting from the outside but as soon as you walked in it was very spacious and had a nice, comfortable ambiance with family vibe. The cashier's young niece was even helping the day we went and she was Uber sweet and shy. The cashier herself was quite friendly and helped us choose our orders. We ordered the imperial egg rolls to share, my order of Pad Thai, and his order of silver noodles. Orchid Thai is a counter-serve Thai restaurant off Central. There's ample parking in the back that's off the main road, which is nice. Inside, seating is at tables with chairs instead of booths, so wheelchair users will have no issues here. Orchid Thai serves a variety of alcoholic drinks along with the standard sodas and teas. The entree menu is large, and they had an item I've not seen in my years of Thai dining: a Green Tea Curry. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of green tea flavors, so I skipped this dish. I got the Pud Thai (usually spelled "pad"), which consisted of a protein choice, rice noodles, egg, bean sprouts, peanut sauce, crushed peanuts, broccoli, steamed squash strips, and a lime garnish. I ordered the dish medium, but they forgot the spice and it came mild without a hint of added heat. While the portion sizes were quite large, the food itself was mostly just fine. I'd describe it as "doing the job" since I was hungry, but I wouldn't crave what they served. There are other Thai places around that are much better and are less expensive. We tried the red curry with beef, green curry with chicken, and an order of the spring rolls. This was the only place open on New Year's Day came in for a warm dinner. I order my basic chicken pad thai to be safe since it was my first visit. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size and how balanced everything was. This is one of the best pad Thai meals I've had in awhile. Prices are also reasonable but service was a bit slow. Inside there is lots of color with artwork and painted murals on the walls. There are some spots that are very tight though. The waiter sat me and my friend in a corner and my chair was touching the other person's chair back and my friends chair was right against the wall. This place came recommended to us as we were visiting Albuquerque from Los Alamos! We're so glad someone mentioned it, because the service was amazing and the food was even better. We got spring roll appetizers (10/10) that came fresh and hot out first. An order of the pad Thai noodles with shrimp which were flavorful and really delicious with the lime (8/10) only because I wasn't too keen on the thin noodles. And I got the drunken noodles with shrimp spicy 4/4 which were so flavorful and delicious, I couldn't put my fork down (10/10). When you walk in, you order before you sit down and she'll either hand you your drinks or bring them over with your order number. Very shortly after, she'll bring out the plates and double check everything is okay. She had really great service throughout our meal even though it was paid for first. Authentic Thai food. Gosh, do I miss it. The sauce for the papaya salad was a perfect 10. I have been making my own because it is so hard to find. Next time, I will ask them to add shrimp (the sauce did have dried shrimp which is a MUST ingredient). The one thing I would suggest is to add more crushed peanuts but that's a personal preference. The Basil Chicken was delicious. We ordered it mild but should have got medium...the mild was "American mild.". I also appreciate the pickup system they have during covid-19. Posted pictures. Orchid Thai is one of those places you'll drive past over and over again and wonder about. Well, we finally tried it and are thrilled to tell you that Orchid Thai is amazing!!! Unfortunately, we don't have all the photos because it is so delicious so let me list the dishes. The veggie egg rolls - to die for!!! So good! The chicken skewer appetizers - so tender and the sauce is delicious! My husband literally drank the sauce! The chicken pud thai - exquisitely made! Tasted exactly how you want it too! The sautéed eggplant - oh my! This was be surprise! It's probably the best I've ever eaten! The mango with sticky rice - by far the best we've ever had! So freaking good and a giant portion! If I could give six stars, I would! Fantastic Thai food with an extremely covid-safe online order and pickup/carry out. I'm vegan and ordered basil fried rice, no egg, with tofu and extra veggies. Husband ordered house fried rice, extra egg, and white chicken. We got spring rolls and imperial rolls. Everything is delicious. I backpacked across Thailand and this tastes really authentic in my opinion. I can taste the lemongrass and basil and other spices. I liked how they had checkboxes for all options on their website. I could omit egg by checking a box and add veggies by checking another box. There's tons of parking behind the restaurant to wait in your car for your text that food is ready. Orchid Thai was able to accommodate our big party of 26 people on a last minute call in. The atmosphere was sophisticated, yet cozy. The restaurant is not that big and you order at the counter. Unfortunately, due to the size of the building and fire hazards, our tables were not able to be put together and our big group had to be seated at separate tables - so keep this in mind if you have a large party. Although our numbers were great, the food came out promptly and delicious! My table ordered "family style," where we all shared entrees. I highly recommend the pud seiew and papaya salad. The fried rice was average, but still good. Thai hot, the spiciest level, is hot!!! Our table also got the special drinks, the Thai iced tea and Thai iced green tea, these were so refreshing and had the right amount of sweetener. To top of the night, we ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert. Sadly, for the two plates we ordered, the rice was undercooked. At first, we thought that was the way it was made, but the sticky rice from one of the other tables tasted much different than ours, so we had our plates sent back into the kitchen. I will say that the second time around was better, but still too undercooked for my liking. Pad Thai is my go to! Pretty tasty! But there hours on google are incorrect so we've gone when it was actually closed.

I've been going to this place for the longest time even during my days as a broke college student. It has always been worth it! It's a little pricier but the food is fresh and the portions are huge. Over the years I've tried a multitude of their dishes: the noodles (love their crispy ones), Thai curries (their green curry is a thing of beauty), the fried rice (basil fried rice I swear, is one of the best Thai fried rice game in town) and their many appetizers. I am not the biggest fan of their potstickers but love their egg rolls and their chicken satay. The husband has tried a bunch of their specialty shrimp/seafood dishes and their soups. He doesn't sing their praises much.. so there maybe some areas where they aren't spectacular as I think they are! Coming back to the singing of the praises, I have to add a note about their delicious Thai tea which I absolutely have to get everytime I come here and also the mango sticky rice. Both have ALWAYS hit the spot for me and the husband as well! A few improvements could be made, possibly increasing their staff so the wait times are less. I seem to remember them being always backed up even during pre-COVID times. Possibly a thing to consider but almost everyone I meet including myself don't have too many qualms about waiting an extra half an hour for the delicious food. The ingredients have always been fresh and the leftovers make for a great lunch the next day. The fried rice doesn't keep as well as the other dishes possibly due to the egg component. Absolutely one of the best Thai places in town and my covid quarantine savior. Their online ordering for takeout is quick and easy. They must put something special in their pad seiew because I cannot stop ordering it. I've yet to try anything I didn't like and their imperial rolls are to die for!
