This review is a few weeks late and I hate to leave it because I was excited to try this place out. However my colleague and I both didn't feel well after eating here (bad batch of tofu?) and I had a hair in one of the items I ordered. I ordered one of the cup desserts where they fill up the cup with what you want from the bar and then seal it - well half way through drinking it and peeling the lid off, I found a black hair. Gag!!!! Yuk and never again!! It seems pretty obvious that the staff working over the food bar should wear hair nets, but none of them did when I was there. I have been a customer for many years (since it was still a small place on 12th). I have visited this new place a dozen times and haven't been quite happy as a customer (keep coming back because of its fresh tofu). Its new place is nice and open (no problem here); the tofu is still delectable although the price has gone up -- new building cost? LOL. Three thing that bugged me enough to write this review: (1) customer services: they failed big time; the majority of their staff are rude, short-temper, and possess an authoritarian-attitude. I speak Vietnamese fluently -- so don't use the language-barrier defense here. There are two registers; the main one is for everything and the other one is for sandwich and desserts -- no sign to indicate the different thus people (especially first timers) who waited in the wrong line only to be told that they had to go to the other register. This happened to me the first time i was there; waited behind three customers; when it finally was my turn, I was told that I had to go to the other one....I might be irritated but would be OK to move to the other line had that lady be a bit courteous in explaining; she was rude "you go there to pay"; I asked "why"; and in a bossy-tone-of-voice "did you order any sandwiches? if not then you over there". Since this encounter, I have witnessed enough times where other customers encountered same thing. They need to be reminded that we are the PAYING customers and not there to beg for food. (2) I saw one customer ordered the banh uot (w/out meat); the server absentmindedly put some banh cuon (w/ meat filling) in the box; the customer stated that banh uot was what he wanted; she replaced the banh cuon with the correct one...using the same box; hygiene was not the issue here but reaction to food allergy might be an issue. (3) The prices are not clearly indicated on most of the ready-to-eat items. No staff to affix the price? or it is a business tactic. I hope the management staff read these reviews to have the problems reviewed and rectified. I have seen businesses sucks at customer services once they became successful and grown. This had been my favorite place for Banh My and the meat sticky rice. The price is super cheap and everything tastes good. I was so in love with these sticky rice after the first try that I bought 5 boxes this time and it was not as that good as I expected, plus the food safety concerning. The first box I ate tasted weird ( a little bit bitter), and I looked at other boxes (just coincidentally). I saw MOLD!!! My gosh, so disgusting! I looked through all of the rest and they all had that green furry stuff (eww) and I had to throw all of them. The food is fair but customer service is so bad. They never pay attention when taking orders and it wasn't the first time they took wrong orders from me and I believe other people too. When I tried to tell them about it they started ganging up and gave me an attitude. I only went here because saigon deli was closed for vacation and will NEVER come back again. They are so unorganized with their order/pay system with people standing all over the place. It made it confusing to know who was the first in line to order. I got the grilled beef sandwich and was horrified to find that it was just a beef patty, a freaking beef patty in a banh mi, lol. They have some really good sandwiches here and their tofu is excellent as always. Thanh Son Tofu isn't just a Vietnamese deli- most Vietnamese restaurants and grocery stores within the county source their tofu from here.... The signature item at Thanh Son is their soy milk. I especially love the pandan flavored soy milk....cheap, made fresh in house, delicious and healthy. A half gallon goes for a buck 75.... I do feel that they've downgraded in terms of a dessert menu as well as other traditional Vietnamese street food options since they changed locations....even though their old shop was so much smaller....Their banh mi is also really delicious and uses a very unique and soft butter baguette they bake in house. The grilled pork is really tasty and seasoned with extra lemongrass. I love it. Only Lan Hue down the road also makes their own baguette in house. They bake long baguettes and eye ball each sandwich as they cut... so depending on who you order from the sizes of your banh mi will not be consistent. I've come in and ordered a banh mi that came out to about 9 inches, and have had some banh mi that were barely 6 inches.....hell I've even ordered two banh mi from the same lady who was making it right in front of me and she made one of the banh mi sandwiches two inches shorter than the other. Service here has also gotten worse and worse as foot traffic has picked up. On my last visit I asked the lady the cost of a certain can of juice. She became annoyed then nagged at me that the price is listed on the fridge.... There was no sign whatsoever that listed any prices on the fridge. This is not an isolated incident. Most of the staff are consistently upset. The awkward exchange of communication while ordering and waiting for your food is not the result of a language barrier. These people are just very rude to everybody, not just non Vietnamese ppl.... Parking is also a bit tight. They need to do like Lam Seafood and buy a plot of land for more parking. read more

The service here is horrid. I think giving this establishment one star is a disservice and deceiving because it really deserves negative stars simply for the service and attitude it offers. I really like the food selection especially the bánh cun. Their flavors and their dishes are very authentic and everything is fresh and delicious but the service is appalling. Everyone is so terribly rude and I feel like going to a battle zone every time I enter this place. They really miss the mark because they're busy now but if they offer decent service they could have had so much more business. I don't understand why it's so difficult to have a happy belly and leave with a good mood in this place. It's either you brace yourself for rude remarks and extremely unpleasant attitudes or you bite the cravings and don't visit. Thanh Son Tofu has been a staple in the community for many years. There new location has ample parking, bigger deli space and many more products to browse through. My favorite are the varieties of freshly fried tofu to select from; lemongrass. Jalapeño, plain, chili, etc. All freshly made tofu products from their soy milk both sweetened and non sweetened to the dessert tofu with sugar ginger syrup. There's a variety of Vietnamese sandwiches to choose from made with their freshly baked baguettes in-house . You can also purchase their freshly made baguettes . Other baked pastries are brought in for sale that are really great to try are the sesame balls with sweet mung bean filling, or sweet fried bread. Other readily prepared deli products are available to grab and go for lunch are on the center table. Their Vietnamese coffee is really good and strong. Can be ordered with ice or hot. There's a variety of both salty and sweet xoi (sweet rice) displayed behind the glass display. Rice rolls both filled with meat and those without are sold by the pound. A variety of colorful Vietnamese desserts to choose can be ordered. The crowd can be chaotic during their rush hour but be patient. They're trying their best to keep up. You order your sandwich and stand aside to hear your order number to be called when finished so keep your receipt. Checkout their refrigerated items as well. I discovered this little (big and bright) gem by accident and am sooo happy this happened. Best Bah Mi ($4!!) just the perfect amount of food. Best iced coffee, dense, flavorful and not too sweet! The shop is filled with local Viet families and it tell me this is an authentic spot. I love their fried chive tofu and lemongrass tofu too. I don't know of any other place that serves tofu like this, everywhere else always uses a slab of thick tofu and calls it good. I really don't want to write the review but I think everyone should be aware of. I don't know what other people feel about this place. I think the business over priced everything. First at the counter to pay they asked if you are pay cash or card. Not sure if the price are different for cash? No where posted the price for the item. When the price total for 2 pounds of Fried Tofu and a Cha Chien for total almost $20. They didn't provide the receipt until I asked. I was shocked and speechless, just left. Cha Chien it's cost $8.75 for 14 oz, you can get it any market for only $5. For the fried tofu, look like it charged $4 a pound you can purchase the repackaged at the market for $2.29 for 14oz. I thought it better and cheaper when you are purchase at the deli it fresh and cheaper, but I was wrong about that. 1 star because the service here is completely horrible. I ordered 20 lbs of banh cuon and the lady with the hat gave me so much attitude every time I tried asking her a question. I went here last weekend - my first and last time. The people here are so rude. I mean, ALL THE WORKERS.. I'm not sure why they are working here if they don't like dealing with customers. To the manager - hire new staff who like working with people and are friendly. You will get more customers to come back if you do. Next, when I walked in, I didn't know what line to stand it.
