I've enjoyed the other 3rd Corner in Encinitas for a while now, but have yet to write a review. My inaugural visit to this OB location -- I think it's the 1st 3rd location -- was so good that I had to immediately say a thing or two, and will get around to writing on the 2nd 3rd at some point. The guys working were super knowledgeable and helped me find a tasty cousin to a fine bottle of zinfandely goodness that I'd enjoyed in Encinitas a few months ago. What originally was going to be a couple glasses of wine with some appetizers turned into a bottle and some outstanding food for us. A special that evening was a filet accompanied by a duck breast (quack and turf?). Ohh, man, that was good. Artisan cheese plate only had one I didn't like. We left happy. And I may have to venture into that neighborhood more often. read more

Great wine, great food and reasonably priced!! I will definitely be coming back here. The space is very large overall because it is half wine store with bar and half restaurant. The wine is split up into whites in one room and reds in the other. Prices of the bottles of wine range from about $20-$50 and they are delicious! You can drink the wines at dinner for a VERY reasonable $5 corkage fee. Where else can you get an amazing bottle of wine with dinner for $25?? We were a party of 6 and ordered 3 appetizers - hummus, olives and baked brie - All were good.... great olives, I love olives.... good hummus with a goat cheese spread as well - brie was ok, I like sweet brie and this was more savory. I ordered one of the specials - a smoked filet mignon with asparagus and mashed potatoes - I subbed the potatoes for more veggies to keep it a little more on the healthy side which was not a problem for them. The filet was so tender, melt in your mouth, cooked perfectly. mmmm... A couple others ordered the scallops which they both raved about, and someone else got the New York Steak and liked that a lot as well. We were all happy full diners :) And I forgot to mention that the filet mignon was only $25! We also ordered 3 desserts to share - the goats milk cheesecake...it tasted like it sounds, like sweetened goat cheese...not the best - the creme brulee....good, but typical - and this flattened chocolate cake, which was also just ok. I suppose I'd give the restaurant 1/2 a star off because their desserts aren't the best, but overall the experience was great and I can't wait to eat there again! read more

I really enjoyed this place. From the comfy couches to the delicious food and the selections of wine, 3rd Corner is a great dining/going out destination. When we arrived, there was a 40 minute wait for a table but the couches were available which was perfect. We quickly picked out an amazing bottle of red wine for about $14. Our server was very friendly and helpful as well. We order the mussels, salad and goat cheese dip - everything was extremely good and the couches were so comfortable to lounge and chat. My only complaint would be to have a little better music and maybe lower lighting to enhance the ambiance. read more

Food is...meh. Menu is a bit uninspired. Service is really hit-or-miss, and the bartender needs to stop complaining about every other wine bar and store in town--it's not cute, it's unprofessional. This restaurant is fantastic! Really great happy hour menu as well as dinner menu. Chicken liver mouse, escargot, scallops, meat/cheese board -- all were delicious. Very quiet, relaxing, and cozy. My wife and I have been here several times now and have never been disappointed. This place can get really busy, and we have waited a long time for a table before. It has always been worth the wait. The good news is that we found in our latest trip last night that they now take reservations. While you wait, you can go through the large selection of wine they have available. This has always kept us busy for most of the wait because we have no idea what we are looking for. Haha. Once you select a bottle of wine, you can take it back to your table and they will open it for a reasonable $5 corking fee (I think that is still the price). They charge you this fee because rather than paying the usual ridiculous markup like at most restaurants, you instead pay a reasonable price you might pay at any other wine shop. But we do not go here for the wine. The food is SOOOOO good!!! I generally go for the Mahi Mahi or the Shrimp Arrabbiata pasta. My wife really likes their pan seared scallops. The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. And the portions are just right. You finish your meal feeling completely satisfied with room for dessert. For dessert I would suggest the bread pudding. You can't go wrong with the creme brulee either. read more

The food here is amazing. But I really just don't love being in OB. We had a big party (about 10-12?), and knew ahead of time that they add the tip on. However, 2 of the girls just showed up to have a quick drink. The waitress was a real a-hole about splitting their one thing of sangria off the bill for them so they could leave 2 hours before us. She wrote the 20% or whatever in herself, even though they weren't really part of our group! I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to write your own tip in..... But again.. The food is amazing. The baked brie thing, the goat cheese salad, the pulled pork sandwich... the skinny (possibly truffle) fries....This is a great place to bring visiting family, as well. My girlfriends call this place Sunday Fun-day brunch, so, my following Sunday had to be here. Great brunch selection and the Oh-so GOOD chocolate bread. Until now, I have not yet found anything comparable to 3rd Corner's chocolate bread- delicious! Bottomless mimosas for a great price you can't beat! 3rd Corner has such a great bottomless mimosa deal! $18.95 for a brunch/lunch item and bottomless mimosas! They advertise that it's "almost" bottomless though - which means, keep it classy or they'll cut you off! I got the 3rd Corner Eggs, which are your standard eggs benedict, but with this basil, mushroom, and herb mash. So flavorful and delish! Once I had the drunchies going, you bet I ate every last bite of that dish! Ooh - and they give you a fruit salad and chocolate bread for the table. Yup - chocolate bread. I LOVED this place. Awesome laid-back non-pretentious yet lovely ambiance, GREAT food and a really great deal!!! The waitstaff knows their stuff and made excellent and affordable recommendations. Went here with a large group for a friend's birthday. Got 4 bottles of red wine for about $15 each (the wine was EXCELLENT and obviously extremely reasonable). Started with the humboldt fog goat cheese, the brie puff pastry, and the hummus. Very reasonably priced and delicious. Only thing I didn't fall head over heels for was the hummus. But then again, nearly any and everything fails when up against cheese in my book. Tried several entree selections and the big winner of the night was the Spicy Sausage Penne (henceforth known as the SSP). It's a delicate balance of scrumptious spicy (but not too spicy!!!) sausage and homemade pesto. LOOTS of sauce but hey, I'm cool with that. The mushroom pasta was also well received. I got the White Truffle mushroom risotto with marscapone and parmesan cheese which was rich and delicious but paled in comparison once I tried the beloved SSP. I definitely will recommend this place!! However, I don't think they had happy hour? I wasn't clear on this...anyone who knows please let me know! By far my favorite late night food and drink spot in OB. Super laid back, and their $10 late night happy hour menu can't be beat. I usually get the mussels (DELICIOUS), which are normally $18 during the day, but only $10 during happy hour. Everything I've tried has always been consistently delicious, large portions, plus they have decent wine prices. Although, I'd have to say that the inside could use a facelift, it looks a little dated. The lounge area with the couches is pretty nice though. The only reason I had to remove a star is because the service is kind of meh most of the time. It can be really slow, especially late night, and a few of the waiters/waitresses don't seem to really care. The bartenders are usually great though. Also, the beer selection is just okay. But I never really come here for beer anyway. read more

Great meal. Great rose. Baked brie had really good roasted garlic on the bottom! Sea scallop dish was really great fresh and tasty. We subbed in the garlic mashed potatoes for the roasted potatoes - no problem. Duck confit was great - got cassoulet - wished I had gotten it on salad instead. But still good. Great atmosphere in wine cellar. People next to us had fun walking around and picking out a bottle of wine to have with dinner. Guess you can cork it up and take it to go! I normally take out of towners here for the good selection of California wine. You can't beat the corking fee (nominal) and if you end up not finishing the bottle off they make sure it's wrapped up to get the rest of it home. Definitely try to get a table outside on the patio area. Sidenote: could deal with less of the pompous wine/waiter guy (should have gotten his name) who was not only unhelpful in picking the type of wine we wanted but was very rude in informing our party that the establishment did not offer wine flights (wasn't aware that was common knowledge, as this was the first time we were there). Maybe he was having a bad night. Always, always order the cheese platter first. Never disappoints, as the selection changes daily. The food is great! The spare ribs are decadent, but worth it. The Third Corner is a go-to favorite every time I visit San Diego. The food never disappoints! I especially love the scallops and the risotto and I cannot wait to try the farro. Sadly, the service on my last visit left so much to be desired. Our waiter, Daniel G, pretty much ruined our experience. He was rushed the whole time and would literally walk away (around the corner) while I was mid sentence. At one point, he cruised by while asking (? I think?) if everything was okay. He didn't even pause or stop! It would be one thing if every table was taken but there plenty of open tables and servers. It was clearly not so busy that he couldn't stop or actually wait on us (I never did hear what the soup was) and he totally rushed the bill. There was a mistake on the bill and I found him to be abrupt when dealing with it. Anyways, I'm disappointed in my experience this time around. I will most likely be back but not for a while. They are a great hidden spot! Nice happy hour food selection 3-6 tues- Fri, with $10 food. Amazing wine selection because they are a wine retail shop. The bolognese was very good. The peas and carrots are not mushy. Nicely flavored. Meat and sauce throughout not just on top so you run out halfway through the pasta. Friendly professional staff. Full bar. My gf and I stopped in here on a rainy Saturday night for a bottle of wine and dessert. We settled on a bottle of Malbec that the waitress recommended which proved to be quite tasty. The prices of the wine are extremely reasonably with only the $5 corking fee if you are going to sip the wine in-house. We shared chocolate chip cookies and ice cream with our wine causing me to want to lick the ice cream mustache off my gf. The staff was very friendly and the owner even came by to check on us twice. It's a super chill environment complete with a cozy patio/lounge. I liked being able to browse the isles looking for my own bottle of wine. I would definitely enjoy a repeat visit to try dinner next time. A+ read more

This has been my favorite OB haunt for a long time. It is so classy and nice. I love the feel when I walk in, I love selecting my own wine bottle from their extensive collection and their cork fee is reasonable. I was basically devastated when they dropped the smoked duck salad from their menu. I mean, I ordered that every time for like three years. However, I discovered the Pan Roasted Salmon with caramelized onion potato cake and tomato fennel confit and they won me over again. I also love mussels (when they're in season) and fries, the creme brulee and the chicken pate. I always take out of town visitors here and my favorite spot in the restaurant is on those lovely leather couches. DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON the SUNDAY BRUNCH. The 3rd Corner is my 2nd home. Menu prices won't break the bank and the food is delicious & unpretentious. I can relax with any number of friends because of the way the restaurant is arranged with tables, couches & patio seating. I've been a customer since they opened the new wine concept, and even before when it was the Belgian Lion & the first version of The 3rd Corner. Their house salad is a meal in & of itself. Nice basil dressing, olives, tomatoes and ample fresh greens. My favorite dishes are the duck confit, the salmon, and the melt-in-your-mouth beef ribs. My top favorite sadly isn't on the menu any more - the chicken marsala. Their soups are wonderful and many are not cream based. The staff keeps me coming back. They are like friends. I wish that every restaurant had the kind & professional service that you find here. Even with a demanding guest they keep their cool & deliver. I don't know how they do it. Also, they can help you pair a wine of your liking from their extensive retail inventory with anything on the menu with the most reasonable corkage charge in town. There have been many copies of The 3rd Corner to pop up throughout the city. No one yet has been able to capture the ambiance of this one-of-a-kind place. read more

This establishment was suggested by a friend who lives a few blocks away. It's a sweet place with an outdoor patio, a tasting room/bar and a dining area surrounded by racks of wine. I started by picking a wine from the assortment on the racks---good variety of varietals and prices. I chose a rose that the server promptly chilled. My friend and I ordered the baked brie pastry puff to start. The brie was tasty, but I was disappointed that the menu promised asparagus and none was to be found. I had a tasty wild mushroom pasta with plenty of pesto and requested added shrimp. The dish was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My friend ordered a chicken sandwhich with the house fries---which were coated in garlic powder. My friend loved his meal, but I was tepid about the fries (which he had raved about). We finished by splitting the goat cheese napoleon, which was really goat cheese layered between almond brittle topped with lavendar honey and surrounded by strawberries and raspberries. It was a light and sweet way to end a tasty meal. The service was great and I enjoyed selecting my own wine from amongst the selection of bottles. A lovely evening meal, though a bit pricey at $75 for the two of us. read more

I have come to 3rd Corner for breakfast and dinner, and I swear, it doesn't get any better than this. I was just there for a bridal shower this past Saturday for their mimosa brunch. For $16.95, you get fruit, delicious chocolate bread, an entree of choice and get this, UNLIMITED MIMOSAS. We were fat, happy and tipsy in a matter of minutes. I ordered the stuffed french toast that was delicious and garnished with fresh fruit. Fabulous! I've also done a wine tasting here which was $10 and just amazing. So much bang for your buck it is just ridiculous. I love dinner here and the seafood risotto is divine. Highly recommended. You can go and pick out a bottle of wine to suit your fancy to pair with any meal and corkage is cheap. Great wine, fantastic food, in a warm atmosphere..what is better than that!? read more

After reading some of the Yelp reviews I got the impression that this was a small place and that reservations were a must. Went on a Friday at 7:30pm and there were tables available, though by no means was it empty. Still, you definitely don't need reservations on a Friday night or probably any other night. So many delectable choices! We ordered: -Duck Confit ($19): duck leg with whole grain mustard on top on a white bean cassoulet (slow-cooked casserole--includes spicy cut up sausage). absolutely delicious! the duck was moist and tender. the mustard gave it slight kick. wonderful flavor. -Seafood Risotto ($18): scallops, shrimp, lobster, mascarpone, caramelized onions, and fennel. although I relished my duck I really wish I would've ordered this! creamy, perfect consistency to the risotto, medium-sized shrimp cooked just right, scallops to die for, and balanced seasonings. We ALMOST stayed til their late night happy hour started (10pm-1am, Tues - Sat) but we were too full. Was really wanting to try their escargots and their mussels (relatively cheaper during happy hour). Avoid the Foppiano Petite Sirah ($16.99). Truly disappointing. $5 corkage fee though--very reasonable! You definitely need to get a wine here, just not Foppiano. They have a death spiral margarita on their drink menu that I wish I would've had instead of the wine. Limit 2 per person. Next time!!! Service was flawless. Can't wait to go back!!! read more

The clock said 10-something pm, and we knew we'd need some quality food to satisfy this hunger. The 3rd Corner turned out to be the perfect spot for us. Yes quality food and wine were served, but more important, the restaurant's ambiance allowed us to maintain our heightened state throughout our dining experience. In a very tight race of my favorite places in San Diego, 3rd Corner is currently in the lead. I try to go at least a couple times per month because every time I do I leave happy. This is essentially a great restaurant/bar with a retail wine store inside. Thus, the prices on wine are retail and the cork fee is only $5. That's about as good as it gets. As for the food, try the cheese board and the mussels, but everything is good. I had the bread pudding for the first time when I went in last and it was amazing. I usually stick to chocolate when it comes to desert, but our server suggested it and it was out of control. My favorite part is the living room style area that is open seating. I usually have pretty good luck finding a spot without waiting if I go late night. It feels like being in your living room with someone serving you and that's what I'm looking for. I suggest it to anyone looking for a good date spot. I'm all about this place; I get into conversations around San Diego all the time about my favorite places to drink/eat and I can't tell you how many times people ask me if I have heard of 3rd Corner. The word is out. 5 stars all day...see you there! read more
