What a wonderful way to end my weekend Savannah getaway. A pleasant staff from the greeting to the exit. The decor was cute and hip. The restaurant was very clean; everyone followed safety guidelines. I had the fried green tomatoes, which is a starter, but they were truly the star of the show. The tomatoes were plated atop a bed of pesto and cheese grits-they were perfect! I also had the salmon avocado toast; I add sriracha for an extra punch. The coffee was okay-the brew was a bit off. We've been here three or four times now, I think. Every time, I've really enjoyed my food. My husband only once had something he didn't much care for (chicken fingers), and he only didn't care for it because my burger was far superior. This last time we went, it was a Thursday night. I'd say we arrived around 7:30-8 pm. It was MUCH more crowded than the other times we'd been here. We prefer our restaurants quiet and low-key, so we were a bit disappointed, since previously it had been this way for us here. However, obviously this means the restaurant is doing well for itself, so good for them. We were seated immediately, unfortunately at a rickety table. Our server (a very friendly, nice, attentive woman) immediately brought us water and asked if we wanted to order another beverage. She left us to look at the menu for a few moments (after explaining the specials in very nice detail), and since we'd been here before it took us only a few moments to decide what we wanted, so her timing was perfect. I decided to maybe try something new--being in the mood specifically for a veggie or meat substitute burger instead of beef--and asked what she thought of the black eyed pea (split pea?) burger ($6.50). She said she'd been hesitant to try it, not being a fan of peas, but thought it was amazing. (She was very expressive, and I could see she got along very well with the other customers also.) So, I ordered the burger with her recommendation and one change--the ranch on the side, instead of on the burger. My husband got the regular cheeseburger, with an upgrade from chips to fries as his side ($8.00). My order was fantastic. The texture was incredibly weird and not what I was expecting--it was like mashed potatoes, almost--but the flavor was great. I was not disappointed. It was also filling, I couldn't finish the burger on my own. Even my husband (who hates peas) said it was great. I WAS glad I got the ranch on the side, though--it was very tangy. My husband also very much enjoyed his burger, as always. The one change I wish I'd made was upgrading my chips to fries, although the chips they serve are very good. The décor in The 5 Spot is extremely pleasant, too, as is (most of) the music they tend to play. This time I identified Mumford and Sons and The Cold War Kids over the radio as we were eating. It's kind of a hipster place, yes, but in the best possible way. Overall: I rate it this way: FOOD: 5 ATMOSPHERE: 4 (Love the feel of the place in general. It was very loud, at times, kids around us were misbehaving/acting out, but that is not the restaurants' fault) SERVICE: 5 (a little slow because it was so crowded, but our server was fantastic) PRICE: 5 Our dinner (before tip) was just under $16. (We did not order beverages, for the record.) We've spent more going to fast food places than this, and this is much better. Overall, I personally think people will enjoy this place the most if they stick with the burgers. The 5 Spot's burgers are great, and the prices are also great. I recently ordered the fish & chips (truffle fries) the fish was not cooked through (how do you under cook thin slices of fish)?! The fries were soggy and completely covered with oil(even truffle oil would have been too much) with the amount of oil that these fries were covered in. The hush puppies were hard and very oily. I could not eat this and it ended up in the trash! The 5 spot need to invest in getting a professional cook instead of pulling someone off the street and putting them behind a stove/grill. My family and I frequent this restaurant often. Lately, the description of dishes on the menu do not match the actual dish that comes out of the kitchen. There are ingredients missing, or there may be a ton of one ingredient and very little of another main ingredient. I am starting to believe that the restaurant is attempting to save money by loading the plate up with the cheaper ingredient while limiting/deleting ingredients that are more costly. For instance, I ordered a summer pasta for $17. The menu stated it contained fresh basil, olive oil, spinach, sub dried tomatoes, white beans, and freshly shaved Parmesan. It was literally ALL beans and pasta. It contained about 3 tiny spinach leaves. . There was no fresh basil or Parmesan. The waiter told us that the basil and parmesan was in a pesto on the pasta. This is incorrect because there was no basil pesto on the pasta at all. This dish contained no freshly shaved Parmesan or fresh basil. Instead, I believe the dish was just beans, pasta, and then coated lightly in their sun dried tomato jam. Not at all what I paid for. This isn't the first time a dish has not had appropriate ingredients. In fact, it's been occurring a lot. It could be that the chefs aren't familiar with the menu or they run out of items. Something is going on. It could be a sign that the restaurant is trying to make a bigger profit with the rising costs of food by limiting or deleting more costly ingredients from dishes. I'm not sure. It happens way too much. I hope that things change because we enjoy going there. At least, revise the menu descriptions so it matches the actual dish that is served. My husband and I live in Ardsley Park and were glad to have a new restaurant in the 'hood. We've been to the 5 Spot three times, and the third time will probably be our last. First of all, I agree with others on here who have commented that the food is not great. It's not bad and it's not good. It's just meh. The last time we went to the 5 Spot was on Dec. 21. A friend and I both ordered burgers, medium well, and they both came back practically raw. We both sent our burgers back and my friend had to send hers back a second time. The 5 Spot's response to this was to comp us for half the price of a burger (about $3, I think). The waitress's reaction was a half-hearted apology. Between inability to execute good food and half-assed service, I think I will skip the 5 Spot. Unfortunately, these two characteristics seem to be a hallmark of the 5 Spot's sister restaurants: Blue Turtle, Blowing Smoke and B Matthews. read more

Brought the family here for an early dinner. First visit. The wall of our booth needed a new coat of paint and our sheet metal table was a bit sharp on the corners when sitting down. Waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu. Drinks a bit slow but have had much worse! Ordered Guac for an app - disappointed it had mayo in it (saw it as the Guac wasn't stirred up enough.) For entrees, i had the Farfalle pasta with Chicken and Pesto. Nice size portion and very well executed. Wife had the crab cake sandwich on GF bread (nice they have that as an option.). Was intent on going to the Japanese hibachi place next door (Hirano's) but they were closed, so we decided to try The 5 Spot since they were busy and the restaurant itself looked nice. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a friendly bartender. We each got a beer and looked over the menu, which seemed promising. Unfortunately the food that came out was pretty disappointing. I feel like I could have gotten a better fish and chips experience at Long John Silver's for half the price. Portions of fish were small and the fries were soggy. Both looked as if they had come out of a freezer. Maybe sea food just isn't their specialty, but I feel like fish and chips is also pretty easy to get right. Another small gripe is that the waters we were served were straight Savannah tap water. Anyone that has spent any time in the city knows how gross that is. It isn't too hard to filter the water you serve to your guests. Based on my experience I would only return for drinks if I were in the neighborhood.
