After reading the rave reviews, my boyfriend and I were excited to take my sister here for her birthday but we left feeling disappointed. The food was good but I wouldn't say it was amazing. The ribeye we ordered was rare rather than medium rare plus in the middle yet the edges were burnt and very well done. The steak was so cool in the center that the extra "special" butter we paid $10 for did not even melt. The menu had unique items which we tried but we would not go back for. The bone marrow was tasty but there was so little marrow, you could hardly spread it on two slices of bread, let alone the four pieces they served with it. The service was adequate. Our server was friendly but he often disappeared for long periods of time and our dining experience took over three hours. When we asked to move from the front table next to the kitchen with the raging fire, which was extremely hot, the manager seemed annoyed with us. Even after moving, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot, to the point that we were fanning ourselves with the cheap paper menus we were offered, to try to keep cool. The chairs were horrible! They were basically the same type of chairs you find at The Cracker Barrel (wood with no cushions) and after sitting for three hours, all of our backs were hurting. I can see they are trying to offer a unique experience and I give them props for that but with the prices so high, a bit of five star service should be included in that price. Sitting at Cracker Barrel style tables and chairs while eating a $100 steak just doesn't feel right. This restaurant would do much better with comfortable chairs and linens on the tables that are actually crumbed after each course. Leaving pieces of fried chicken skins on the table, after the appetizers have been cleared is what you would expect at Cracker Barrel where the entrees cost $17 as opposed to $100 plus. We were in town from FL, visiting my sister for her birthday and I'm glad my sister felt special but I would not go back, again. It's not worth the money. Oh, and on top of all that, they clearly have NO IDEA what a cobbler is. The server told us it was going to be blueberry cobbler, but instead, we received a piece of dense cake that had a few blackberries on the bottom of it. I've never had such horrible cobbler in my life. The only thing that made it edible was the ice cream that it came with. The chef that came to our table looked highly unprofessional. He looked like a line cook at Denny's rather than a chef at an upscale restaurant. I've worked in plenty of five star restaurants and I've never seen a chef look so unkempt when approaching a table. Special occasion dinner for my husbands birthday. The personalized touch they added to the nightly menu was nice and unexpected. It was a cool and rainy night and the ambiance within the restaurant was exactly what was needed an such a night. Each table has a candle and flower vase for a little elegant touch. Our server was very informative about the nightly selections and menu options. The frog legs surprisingly have a more delicate flavor than chicken and were not as chewy as I thought they'd be. The shrimp and grits with sausage were filling and delicious, the shrimp were very large and cooked to perfection. I do not eat fish but the trout was very delicate and flavorful, my husband absolutely devoured it. The goat cheese cheese cake was amazing and had pistachio and blackberry to balance the flavor and texture. The French press coffee was some of the best coffee I've ever had and I wish I would have asked if they sold it. Just 3 starts because the manager apologized and take care of the plate the we send back 2 times, my husband and I order a Tomahawk Ribeye 48oz medium, first time we send it back because was rare, they apparently was to lazy to cook it a little longer and they just put in the oven and return it to the table the same way. This never happens to us before and either with a piece of meat like this one, is a lost for sure for the owner, waste of money on this beautiful meet but they don't have idea how cook it. Our first experience at The Appalachian was earlier this week for our wedding anniversary. We researched for the perfect place before we started our trip and made reservations online. This restaurant is located in downtown Sevierville, TN and it has both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant walls and ceiling are painted black, the tables and chairs are a natural wood and the walls have stunning, colorful and creative artwork adorning the walls. One of the pieces of art has hidden or not so hidden faces of Mickey Mouse throughout it. There is a separate Bar room and a large dining room featuring generously spaced out tables. This restaurant feels like they are more focused on the dining experience rather than higher volume. The menu features a nice selection of great options to choose from and we selected Grilled Baguettes ($12) which have smoked onion goat cheese, confit garlic and sun dried tomatoes. This was a perfectly portioned and full flavor appetizer. We loved this. I ordered the Appalachian Burger ($18) which has house bacon, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, house pickles, crispy onions, Fancy sauce and American cheese and served with French fries. I officially crown this as my favorite burger that I've ever tasted. It totally earns the price of $18. My husband ordered the 8 oz Filet Mignon ($49) and ordered sides which are an additional charge. He chose Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes ($8) which were really tasty and Fire Roasted Carrots ($8) which we shared. We have never...ever...had such ultra amazing tasting carrots in our lives. I do not know what they do to prepare them but whether you like carrots or not...you must order these carrots. I think that the chef who designed this artistic menu could help turn me into a vegetarian. Seldom have I had any vegetable at any restaurant or at anyone's home taste as magnificent and tasty as these Fire Roasted Carrots. The only thing we didn't care for was the cornbread. It really was very bland. This is probably tasty fir many people but I'd like a slight sweetness to my cornbread. For Dessert - so one of the factors that excited me in choosing this restaurant was dessert called Pots de Creme ($10) this decadent smooth dark chocolate heaven in a dish is very similar to the dessert one of my friends used to make. She is no longer with us and this was a magical moment that brought such warm thoughts of her. My husband ordered the Goat Cheese Cheesecake ($12) which was also very tasty and one of the best tasting cheesecakes we have ever had. Because we were celebrating our 4th Anniversary of our marriage and 24th anniversary together, our server brought our desserts to us with candles lit on them. Would like to rate them as a 3.5, We have a love-hate relationship with the Appalachian. One day the steaks are phenomenal and the next day they're so-so. But the prices remain very high compared to any other place in the area or even in the city of Knoxville. The servers are always fantastic, and the manager is great, but the quality of the steaks varies from mediocre to fantastic. They have a great drink menu for wine (reds are great; white- not so much), beer, and spirits. Dining at The Appalachian is an experience. I dined in with family and friends on a Saturday night. Although we didn't have reservations, we were seated right away. The space is huge and has several options for seating. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a chic, classy, vibe. Our waitress was December and she was fantastic. Not only was she knowledgeable about the menu, but she was also very personable and funny. She also encouraged us to take a look on the other side of the restaurant (we sat by the bar) where you could actually see the chefs and pit masters making the food. What a sight to see! For starters, we ordered the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken skins, and beer braised pork belly. All the starters were delicious and the fried green tomatoes were crisped to perfection. The fried chicken skins were great as well. I really liked the honey drizzle on the plate. It always sends fried chicken over the top for me. It's truly a palate explosion. Salty chicken + sweet honey = definitely recommend. For entrees were ordered the Dry Aged Kansas City Strip, the duck breast, hanger steak, and salmon. Everyone really liked their food. I ordered the duck breast and didn't like it. To preface, I had it cooked medium rare, which was the chef's suggestion but I just couldn't stomach it. Dan, who I am assuming is the manager came by to check on us and noticed I didn't seem to be enjoying my meal (talk about being good at your job!) He immediately took my plate and replaced it with a dish I preferred. I ended up ordering the salmon. Not only did Dan come back to check on me but the big boss Steve came to check in and the pit master Derek stopped by to check in as well. How professional! This is by far the best customer service I have ever received at a restaurant, and I always give credit where it is due. The salmon was perfectly cooked - I finished the whole thing. Our family had the opportunity of enjoying dinner on May 22, 2025, seven of us from VA and GA. The food was amazing, the mussels were enormous, and the fried chicken skins very unexpected, the porterhouse steaks were so very big, that the left overs went back with us for steak and eggs in the morning, The staff was delightful, especially our server Sam, the manager or owner was very attentive as well. The place is designed to accommodate a lot of people. We opted to sit outside on a balmy summers evening and enjoyed every single thing they served us. Huge selection of whiskeys here, even a shot of Rip Van Winkle for $225. The green salads are perfect with fresh greens and other good things added. The cocktails are expertly constructed. The shrimp and grits was one of those OMG moments. I've never had this southern dish before and I'm sure glad I tried it here. The chef did not hold back on the spice so it had a bit of fire to it. But the entire composition was just wonderful. The pork tenderloin was amazing with prominence of the wood fire cooking. The chocolate pot de crème was decadent, wow! After looking at their website, we decided to make a reservation for 5pm. We decided to come at 4pm and have some pre-dinner cocktails. The restaurant is in downtown Sevierville. It is a hidden gem. Yes, we were asked if the steaks were ok, but only after we already ate a 1/3. A good steak house would ask us to cut into steaks when they arrived and waited to make sure we were happy. Found this spot from a Facebook group and it was the highlight of our time in Pigeon Forge! The space is beautiful! Seating in the main area you can see the kitchen and presentation of the dishes, which was fun. The menu is printed daily! They offer a gluten free menu as well. Lindsay took great care of our table and handling all of our questions. We enjoyed pimento cheese app and cocktails. For main dish, I enjoyed shrimp and grits. I added bacon and it was a great idea, if I do say so myself. The sauce was incredible. For dessert, I ordered the pot de creme with raspberries and then the chef came by our table to describe the peanut butter and jelly dish and YOU NEED THIS DESSERT. Very nice dining experience Thursday night 12 /16/21. 6:30 reservations. We had the butter bean hummus appetizer with wood fired baguettes which were wonderful. I had the pork chop and wife had the shrimp n grits. Mine was definitely good and I enjoyed the fried kale (note: kale is not my favorite but it reminded me of Japanese seaweed which I like). Wife's shrimp n grits were delicious and her being a connoisseur of that dish, she reports it was one of the best shrimp n grits dishes she has ever had. It was my lovely wife's birthday dinner so Molly our server brought out their dessert which we had picked out, which was perfect with a lit candle in it (forgot to write it down but it was a rich, thick chocolate pudding, with fresh berries and fresh whipped cream on top). We were seated in an open dining space with a view of the kitchen which was so cool!! The atmosphere is elegant without feeling overly fancy. The decor is from local artists, which was a nice touch! The food... OMG. Farm-to-table meant super fresh ingredients! We ordered frog legs for the appetizer and it felt so weird to eat frog legs in a nicer establishment lol! But they were so delicious. I ordered the duck breast because I love duck, and it did not disappoint. It was crusty, melty, savory... My husband ordered the Hanger Steak and I couldn't decide if I liked his dish or mine better! We ordered a spot of whiskey and it perfectly complimented our dinner. Our waitress was so kind and friendly, and wished us a Happy Anniversary which was so thoughtful. Reservations for 5 of us on a Saturday night. It's not too busy, but we're certainly glad we had a spot held. Much like any big city steak house, we were ready to enjoy an evening dining in. Beautiful ambiance- very chic, modern, comfortable industrial. Plenty of spacing between tables, so even as the place fills while we dine, it's not crowded or loud. We spent a solid five minutes identifying random items in the kaleidoscope prints on the wall. (Carl Gombert is the local artist who created the prints). We ordered a few apps- can't go wrong with the pork belly, and the charcuterie was the right size to be able to share with the table. The drinks are delicious and BEAUTIFUL- if you like lavender and lemon, and the Wildflower is in the custom cocktails, do yourself a favor and order it. Also excited to see our favor whiskey in the _extensive_ list: Belle Meade. Dinner was outstanding. The table ordered all kinds of amazing dishes: wood fired chicken or fish, duck breast and bone marrow, shrimp with grits. Everything was incredibly plated and the flavors on each plate wonderfully balanced. The complimentary cornbread served in a small cast iron skillet is a nice compliment to any sauce or pan drippings left over. We're saving room for dessert- we've been told about the campfire ice cream _twice_ now. They take one of their wood fire logs and dunk it into the cream that they then make the ice cream with (they strain out the cream first, so don't worry about splinters). I've ordered a side of the peanut butter whiskey ice cream, too. We're tickled to see how amazing these will be! The pecan pie is served in a mini cast iron skillet. And the ice cream. YALL. It's like a roasted marshmallow somehow was transformed into a delicious chilly creamy treat! It can stand in its own, it's so wonderful! So glad we found this place- so grateful to spend an evening 'dressed up' and laughing over a delightful meal on this vacation.
