So good! Tonight was the second time we have gotten take out and it's the second time it didn't disappoint!! The first time we ordered the family sized fish and chips and this time we ordered the family next salad. Both times it was MORE than enough food, so you really get your money's worth. We went a few minutes after the place opened right around 4:00. We had never been before but had an unused $75 gift card so we figured why not? We were not impressed. We went in very hopeful for some good food. The yard & garden area is beautiful, there's an outdoor patio that was completely empty, we walked in and were seated at a very small table. It looks like all of their tables are very small. Our waitress (an older woman) was not well trained and kept cutting us off and would just run away multiple times. I saw the bruschetta on the appetizer menu and being a lover of fresh mozzarella, balsamic drizzle, and basil was thrilled to try it. However, what I got was very soggy pieces of crostini with some Weird syrupy/sugary flavor sauce with what looked like it could have been chunks of tomatoes? There was no mozzarella, no balsamic drizzle or vinaigrette, no garlic. It was very inedible and disappointing. My husband hated his quoahog as he said it had no flavor, no clams, and no choriz, and he said his clam chowder was gross. We shared a filet mignon order with the 2 baked stuff shrimp, the shrimp were the only things that actually had any flavor and probably the best thing. The mashed potatoes were not enough for even one person let alone two. I had two very small bites, and he had one bite. That was it. Also the texture & flavor seemed like it was boxed mashed potatoes. My blood orange drink looked a lot better on paper, it actually tasted like a salty margarita & I couldn't taste the aperol, blood orange, or tequila at all. It was salty and burnt. All together it was like $130 & we will never return. The waitress only got $20. read more

The Aviary is a nice restaurant for sure. Your get what you pay for. My crab cakes eggs Benedict was $18. I also had a toasted croissant which was another $4, and coffee was $3.50. My bill with tip was over $30 for one person. The food was delicious, and service at the bar was excellent. My only complaint is that I waited a solid half hour for my meal, and the people next to me got their food first even though they ordered second! Sure, it was a busy Sunday brunch, but I think someone screwed up. Reservations recommended. I'll probably go back at some point. read more

We ate there for the first time on Friday, May 31, 2024. I had chicken stadler my husband had the mahi mahi. Both dishes were over seasoned, the chicken, broccoli and risotto was over salted. His mahi mahi was over peppered. Very expensive meals and very disappointed with the lack of quality in preparation and seasoning of both meals. Got fried chicken and waffle and crab cake Benedict, the former was better though both were pretty unremarkable. Crab cakes were Aok. Where do I begin...first and foremost to our waitress lori....the service was a tell tale sign of how this night was gonna go.....and she was 5 star from the beginning. Great lighting and very cozy feel, food was amazing we had the charred Brussels and pimento crab dip for starters....great choices well seasoned and the kettle chips are made in house for the crab dip. The Aviary was a HIT with everything. Not only was the food amazing, we are food snobs, huge compliments to the chef. The absolute HIGHLIGHT of our night was our server Lori C. From the moment we sat down, she greeted us with warm and friendly vibes. Her attention to detail is exquisite. Being a former server, Lori is the type of waitress that people come back for, and we definitely will be back for her and the stunning lobster risotto we ordered. Along with the Brussel sprouts, which were some of the best I've ever had, we got the short ribs and crab dip. I couldn't even find something wrong if I wanted to. My wife and I have had a number of pleasant dining experiences at the Aviary. That being said our experience on October 11 (our 49th wedding anniversary) left something to be desired. The service was quite good and our waitress pleasant. Our dinners though were disappointing. I had a special (2 3oz. Filet mignons and 3 shrimp. My wife ordered the salmon.) It took some time for the entrees to be delivered likely because they were left sitting. When they arrived the entrees were barely warm. After we got the attention of our waitress she returned them to the kitchen. When they came back to us just warm we just decided to eat them as they were. This place is EXCELLENT! Definitely a one stop shop here. The place is extremely clean and tastefully decorated. This is a great place to come with friends, family, or even on a date. They have plenty of parking, so no need to worry about that. They also have dining both inside and outside (when the weather permits). Everything from the food to the drinks was superb. I was even impressed with the bread/pretzels they brought out before our meals. We had a party of five and everyone found the food to be exceptional. I had the flat iron steak and WOW, it was amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the butternut squash and accompanying sides were phenomenal. My boyfriend got the seafood scampi in a white sauce, and it was SO GOOD! They were very generous with the seafood, which was nice. Drinks were also on point; try the passion fruit mojito! I have ate here twice. First their bread basket is phenomenal! The appetizer's such as the deviled eggs, fish tacos, quahogs and shrimp cocktail were amazing. The deviled eggs were super creamy and smooth. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and are huge. The quahog was moist but not too wet , had a nice amount of clams and chourico bits. Nice kick but not too spicy. Chowder was creamy and thick, great flavor and nice amount of clams. Potatoes were cooked perfectly, stuffed shrimp were amazing, again it was cooked perfectly and stuffing was spot on with great seasoning. I also had their 16oz bone in rib-eye. It was cooked perfectly to med-rare . I love the black garlic glaze and the roasted garlic you get with it. One of the best steaks I have had dining out in the long time. Food was absolutely terrible. I ordered the meatball appetizer as my meal and it was charred and required a steak knife to cut. I informed the server and she said that is just the way they are served. Not sure why any restaurant would serve something that inedible. I was hungry and it was late so I tried something else. To be honest if it wasn't so late I would have left immediately. I then ordered the simply grilled shrimp with rice and asparagus. Well the shrimp was undercook and the rice was cold. I don't come here often, but when I do, I always seem to have The Nest Salad for a meal. It is so amazingly delicious and fresh. The vinaigrette is used sparingly, which I love and the fresh avocado, the grilled chicken and the cooled down crisp bacon are combined to leave your taste buds in pure ecstasy. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of two things: the first table we were shown is in the back room straight ahead and stands above the ice machine in the basement that causes constant vibration and we had to ask for a new table. The next table was right under a speaker and even though we mentioned to our waitress that the music was too loud, nothing changed. Nevertheless, I will return because it's a beautiful place. The place is beautiful! A small little garden takes you to the entrance. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the place is not only very clean but very aesthetically appealing. Service was amazing. The staff were polite and maintained a manner of sophistication while not seeming too posh. Very great service and timely manner. The food was the best part of the experience. All the meat was cooked perfectly and nothing was dry. Even the well-done meat had been tender. The portion sizes are a bit large, but for the price I would say it's a fair deal. Everyone at the table enjoyed the food. We will be coming back next time as it was all across a great dinning experience and a new favorite spot. read more

I had heard of the Aviary and it received very nice reviews here, but visited for the first time to bring my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. The staff was very friendly from reservation to service. That is definitely the first impression you will get. We were seated near a big fireplace which made for a cozy and quaint feeling. Given that it was for a Valentine's Day date night, it was exactly the environment I had hoped for. The food was really good. We had the pulled pork nachos which were excellent on flavor, but I would have hoped for a bit more in the way of toppings and distribution. For me the perfect nachos have something on every bite. For the main course I decided on Portuguese style steak tips which were a special on that day. The steak was well cooked though I would have preferred it to be slightly rarer than it was served (I wasn't asked how I wanted it). the portion was slightly less than I would have hoped for but not a deal breaker either. All in all the experience was good and I would recommend the restaurant for a nice date night. You won't be disappointed. read more

We dropped in for a late lunch on a Friday on the way to somewhere else nearby. We saw the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a whirl. All in all, a really good experience. Service (from Guy) was really quite good. Despite a late lunch, it was pretty full and folks were obviously in a really good mood all around. We got the spinach salad with poached pears. The kitchen provided them split into two bowls for us, which was nice. Also got the 'dressing on a side' right, which makes my better half happy. I'm no walnut fan--even candied--but she thought they were delicious, too. Lunch itself was was blackened fish tacos on a grilled tortillas. I'm not really sure why I ordered them, as I don't usually appreciate fish tacos, but they were really very good. Good fruit and slaw with nice fish and not so juicy/runny that the the tortilla fell apart (really not at all...and the grilling was a nice touch). I was compelled to share the second taco, which was a bummer. They were nice sized, but could have had a side (other than the grilled lime wedge). The other dish was a grilled pizza, which was the brie, prosciutto, arugula, goat cheese and fig option. We both really liked this, but there is a lot of figgy jam on there and eating it was a bit messy (I've seldom licked my fingers so much in public...). I'd make this one an appetizer, honestly, or even a quasi-dessert. But the concept was cool and the other pizzas on the menu--saw a couple rolling out--looked great. We got in and out at a really nice clip, too. Not sure when we'll be back in this neighborhood again, but if we're hungry, we'll be stopping in. read more

After attending my niece's high school graduation (at Barrington H.S.) on Jun. 5th, a group of 15 of us decided to have a meal here to celebrate where we did have a prior reservation. When we arrived, the staff was very polite, friendly, accommodating, and sat us immediately. The female server (sorry I did not get her name) was PHENOMENAL. She was on the ball with drinks, appetizers, and meal orders. She was very pleasant, personable, and gave great customer service for the size of the party and the fact she had several other tables besides ours. As for the food from what I could tell from the whole party, ALL of the dishes ordered were awesome. I personally had the 16 oz. ribeye that was cooked to perfection. The restaurant had a Southern country club feel to it and, as a Southerner from Georgia, they hit the nail on the head with the whole vibe of the place. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for this phenomenal staff, customer service, and meals. read more

We went on Valentine's Day during the pandemic. They closed in the outdoor patio and added heaters so it was nice and toasty, felt like we were eating indoors. The Aviary is my new favorite spot! We've gone for the past two weekends for brunch with excellent experiences both times. The food is thoughtfully plated and tastes as good as it looks. Came here on a Saturday for an early Mother's Day lunch. There are two different sections of the restaurant, one has a 'garden tea room' feel to it, the other has a more restaurant feel to it with a bar. Both rooms look very nice. For lunch I got the sesame tuna wrap. It was seared tuna with a seaweed salad and wasabi sauce. It was delicious! It tasted so fresh and light but still filled me up. I would definitely recommend it. I was also very impressed with the beers they had on draft. It was so nice to see a nice variety of craft beers and not the usual line up. Will definitely come back to check out the dinner menu. read more
