The ice cream is good. We ordered the brownie bear bowl with mud pie coffee ice cream and almonds on top (5/5). We also ordered 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream with a snickerdoodle cookie (5/5). The service was ok. You order the ice cream at one window and pay at the next. The ambience is cool. The ice cream truck is located on a street with a small seating area. Overall, good ice cream.
We had dinner in Chinatown and we were looking for a sweet treat and stumbled on this place!! It was packed on a a Saturday night but we got served in like 5 minutes still and even found a place to sit I did the sandwich with coffee ice cream and a chocolate chip cookie and Cookie Monster cookie. Guys, this was delicious. It was massive and the ice cream was to die for. Vibes are cute as well and just overall great place to stop and grab some dessert!!
Fresh baked cookies with very unique cookie flavors (like funfetti & carrot cake). I did expect it to be cloying and super sweet, but it was nice. You could taste the ingredients and the ice cream was great without being "syrup-y". The staff was super friendly, but be warned that they do not always have all the flavors all the time. We waited for about 15 min because we wanted to try the funfetti cookie and some were just coming out of the oven. There were also a few ice cream flavors not in stock. You can take it on-the-go and walk around Fisherman's Wharf, or you can sit in a few picnic tables and chairs to eat it there. Worth a stop and better than the chain ice cream shops nearby.
Baked Bear is such a good treat if you're in the North Beach or Fisherman's Wharf area! It's perfect on a spring or summer day. We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon and while there was a line to order, it moved pretty fast. They also have a few tables out front to sit while you enjoy your ice cream sandwich. During the day we visited, they ran out of their bear batter flavor, so we were a bit disappointed since that seemed like their classic. We ordered the mud pie ice cream with cookie monster cookies. The ice cream was really well done and I loved the flavor. I would honestly go back just for the ice cream. The cookie itself was a bit hard and as someone who prefers a more chewy cookie, it wasn't my favorite. We didn't get our ice cream cookie sandwich warmed up, so perhaps that would've been a better choice for a softer cookie. Loved our experience here and I'm looking forward to coming back or visiting their other location in North Beach.
My friend and I were craving ice cream in a big way and we decided to stop here while Ubering back from dinner to see if it was as good as remembered. Was it ever! When we left I was thinking to myself "Baked Bear - where have you been all my life!?" ;-) In a nutshell, this is a place where they'll build an ice cream sandwich to your exact specifications. The problem is that there are so many choices you might feel a bit overwhelmed when you first visit. Trust me though - it's worth the effort to learn their menu; their ice cream tastes like a little bit of Heaven! So what kind of choices am I talking about? There are more than ten different kinds of cookies to choose from (i.e., funfetti, snicker-doodles, chocolate chip, etc.), a dozen or so different kinds of ice cream to choose from (i.e., coffee, cookie dough, chocolate chip, etc.) and more than ten toppings available (i.e., Oreo crumbs, caramel, fruity pebbles, etc.). The only way to really figure out what you'll like is to visit multiple times and try several different combinations - is life hard, or what? ;-) My first time out I decided to go with a "combo sandwich" - that's a chocolate chip cookie on top and a brownie on the bottom. In between the cookie layers I got cookie dough ice cream, and hot fudge on top. When I took my first bite I almost couldn't believe how AMAZING this ice cream sandwich tasted! Tip: While it sounds good when you're scoping out the menus, in practice I'd suggest omitting the hot fudge; it's actually just chocolate syrup, and it didn't add much to the overall flavor profile of my ice cream sandwich. Both my friend and I were VERY happy we decided to take a detour to visit this place, and I look forward to returning the next time I'm in SF.
This is a stellar dessert place! It specializes in cookie + ice cream combos (cookie/ brownie bottom bowls and cookie ice cream sandwiches). I got the gooey butter cookie with a scoop of the blue bear ice cream (blue cake batter with brownie pieces). It was rich and delicious. I enjoyed the texture of the ice cream- it was on the thicker, stickier side, so it didn't melt as quickly. The worker that served me was joyful and happy to do so! There's a good amount of seating inside and a few options outside too.
My daughter said it best, a small dessert spot that packs a punch! There are so many options and flavors for all palates, from sorbet, dairy, vegan, and gluten-free for my boy! The best part is that you can mix and match your ice cream sandwich, for instance, a brownie top and cookie bottom! Whatttttt the dessert ancestors are looking out!!!! I think this type of place is better eaten there and not to go. I say that because I ordered an ice cream sandwich, and with any cookies or brownies added to cold ice cream, it gets hard, and I couldn't eat it with a plastic spoon. I'm sure it would've been better if I dove right in and but it but it was raining! So let's discuss this mango sorbet my son had!!!! I live in Miami, we have great mangos, but whatttt we all fight over his sorbet when he claimed he was full! (Check out my pics and see some of the items we ordered) The location is on the wharf, not directly but around the corner away from the strip. This is an outside place, no restroom, just a bench or two outside to sit. Last but not least, what brought a 4 star to a 5 was the customer service! The ice cream was great. The concept was the part that was exciting! But I would say ice cream is ice cream. To me, the customer service was great. The young lady was super kind and very patient with our big order. She kept a smile and offered suggestions. My 12 year old daughter was ordering, and she gets nervous ordering, but I make her do it here and there. She felt comfortable and confident, never rushed. Food is important when visiting a restaurant but the service is huge! Also, I was paying with a visa gift card, and she could have said, "Sorry, we don't have a swipe for the card." But, she called someone and searched for the swipe portion of her iPad and made it happen. There is nothing like a quality product with a smile!! Gets me wanting to hand out stars, " A star for you, and a star for you!"
Tons of options for ice cream sandwiches! All the usual types of ice cream sandwiches plus some that you probably haven't tried, like the donut ice cream sandwich. The donuts taste similar to Krispy Kreme donuts and the ice cream is good but not like Haagen-Dazs taste. You can also add a wide variety of toppings to your sandwich (brownie bits, chocolate chips etc.) They also have great cookies. When I went there was 8 flavors - 7 regular ones and one flavor of the month cookie.

A visit to Fisherman's Wharf means a visit to one of the most unique custom made ice cream sandwich spots in SF. On this visit, I got a custom cookie sandwich ($7). For top and bottom I got White Chocolate Macadamia and Cookies & Cream, Espresso Bean ice cream, with brownie bits as toppings. You really can't go wrong with any of the combinations. Just order to your hearts' content.
Took a quick trip during a break and was very impressed. The ice cream is super tasty and the cookies are delicious. The lady who served me was friendly and made my ice cream sandwich fast. Definitely will be visiting on another break in the future!
Very interesting spot and the kids thought this was such a fun idea. They were so shocked that they can have cookies and ice cream together! I love the idea of creating your own cookie ice cream sandwiches, it was the perfect dessert after lunch and after our long walk around the city. The cookies were soft and fresh, and the ice creams had great flavor and creaminess to it. Prices compared to all the ice cream shops around was the most inexpensive. My daughter got mint chip in a cup and my husband and I shared an ice cream sandwich. We got the gooey butter cake cookie and chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream with heath bar bits. Service did take a while since there was only one person working, and she wasn't very friendly, which was a bit disappointing. But I guess the sweets and price made up for it. Overall, a good experience and I'd definitely come back for the ice cream sandwiches, just hoping for better customer service next time we visit San Francisco. read more

What a great spot! Just a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf but in a slightly quieter section of the neighborhood, just across from a streetcar stop (making a quick getaway after dessert easy peasy). LOVED that they had a gluten free option (the chocolate cookie in this case) and the sandwich, while a little hard to eat with hands, was delicious. You can't really go wrong here and it's a fun option, especially for the kiddos. Also, pro-tip: the wait for cable cars at the end of the line can be forever. Take the streetcar just across the street from The Baked Beaver instead and find a time to hop on one of the cable cars mid-route (if you're looking for that experience - you can just waive them down at an intersection). read more
We were passing by and checked out the shop. We just had an Italian dinner and did not have room for ice cream but opted for Cookie Monster cookies to go for later. The cookies were AMAZING, and the person who served us was helpful. I'd stop by here again if ever in the area. I'm interested in trying the other cookies at the very least. read more

The fresh baked cookies are amazing. I couldn't taste the ice cream because of the cookie. Which says so much about cookie lol. My kids enjoyed it. Their bathrooms are not open to customers. The seating is spread out but not alot. But cookie and ice cream are good. read more

I have always seen pictures of these exact goodness on Insta and I happen to experience it recently. I can tell you right off the bat that this is way better than CREAM. CREAM also has the same concept but Baked Bear's cookie are much bigger and flavorful. I got the cookie sandwich which I was given a chance to get two different kinds of cookies and an ice cream flavor would be in the middle. You are asked if you wanted syrups and toppings to be added to it and naturally, I said yes! Ta-da! I got an cookie sandwich that is a cookie & cream cookie on one side and on the other side, it's the cookie monster. Coffee ice cream in the middle with fruity pebbles as the toppings and hot caramel on the top! It was chaotic eating this sandwich because it started falling apart on me halfway through but that's why they give you a spoon! Lol. Either way I am coming back to taste all of them! read more

Have been on multiple occasions. The gooey butter cake ice cream and cookies literally melt in your mouth!!! We even got it on doordash once and it survived the drive. Pretty much one of the few places I'll have dessert in SF. read more

Any time I go to San Francisco, I head up to the Baked Bear for a Cookie Monster donut sandwich. The last time I went I took my mom and had to fly out right after. After calling the sandwich so good that it was "sinful", we wobbled back to our hotel and said our goodbyes. Then she went BACK for round 2 lol! It is a must try if you are in the city. read more
San Francisco rain and cold ain't gonna stop me from my love for ice cream! The kiddo fell asleep in his stroller and it was my chance to break free and indulge in sweets without having to hide and sneak bites when he's not looking. Woohoo~ Excited was an understatement! It was raining and so of course I was the only crazy person there. I think the worker was surprised anyone even came 'cause I had to ask if they were even still open, lol. I got to sample a few different flavors and the worker explained I could split 2 flavors if I couldn't decide. There were so many choices which as a first timer can be overwhelming. I like picking from a set of tried and true mixes, but that's just me! The cookie I wanted only had 1 cookie left so I went with the cookies & cream and paired them with with the brownie dough swirl and salted caramel fudge ice cream. My order was rung up right away which made me forget that I could & wanted to pick a topping. It was also really dark so I didn't know I could get my sandwich hot pressed and missed it on the menu. Oh well! The worker was really apologetic that the salted caramel ice cream was on the soft side, almost melted. Kinda wish he told me that beforehand and I would've picked something else. He ended up not charging me for splitting the flavors (didn't know that was an extra charge) and gave me 2 free cookies on the house. Awesome!! That was a really nice surprise and I always appreciate free food :) I ran back to my hotel just 1 block away thinking that it would rain harder. I tried to sneak a bite on my way there but the cookie was hard and the ice cream gushed out. Once I got to my room the salted caramel already started melting into a pool of goop. Nonetheless, it was really good! I loved how the cookie still had a bit of that raw cookie dough taste and was still a bit chewy. It would have been even better if I got my cookies hot pressed to soften it up (it doesn't melt the ice cream) and if the salted caramel fudge wasn't so soft. This is definitely THE place to indulge in custom ice cream sandwich goodness. I'll be making this a regular stop every time I'm in the Fisherman's Wharf area from now on! read more
This is absolutely DELICIOUS. This is an outdoor version of the one on Columbus. It was my first time here, dragged by my friends who were extremely excited. I have never heard of this place and I am honestly shocked I haven't. Baked bear is, as per the description in the title, is a custom ice cream sandwich place. It doesn't only have ice cream sandwiches, but plain ice cream and... it slips my mind now, but there's other things too. I had gotten a custom ice cream sandwich. I got a snickerdoodle cookie with mint ice cream and Oreo crumbles. It came in a tray and it was a little difficult to eat. But it was totally worth the messiness. It was delicious and tasted very very sweet. Now of course, if you don't like it super sweet (or want it sweeter), you can customize it. Don't want it sweeter? Choose a different ice cream or topper. Want it sweeter? Choose a sweeter ice cream or topper. It's wonderful! Instead of a cookie as the "buns", you could have a donut or brownie. (Longer description if you need it:) It's completely outdoors and wonderful if it's sunny (like the day I went). On the left of the truck, there is a menu written in chalk. For a custom ice cream, it has each step written out perfectly. It starts with what you want as "buns". There is a list of cookies they have (and they have a monthly cookie which I think is peach cobbler this month), a donut, or a brownie you could choose. Next is a list of potential ice creams you could get. I highly recommend the bear one, I didn't get it but it sounds LOVELY. (Its blue cake batter, fudge, and brownie). Next is a list of toppings, which is placed on the side of the sandwich, stuck onto the ice cream. In the middle(ish) is where you order. To order, I said, "Hi! I would like a Snickerdoodle cookie with mint ice cream and Oreo crumbles." They take your order and you move to your right. On your right is the place where you get your order and pay. For utensils and napkins, it's on the table slightly on your right when you pick up your sandwich. There is seating in front of the truck (and towards the back...?). Overall, completely love it. :)) ALTHOUGH.... I'm not sure if it's worth $7. My friend thought it was super similar to Creme. Don't recommend going out of your way for this place but stop by if your in the area. read more
I came here with a friend on Saturday afternoon at around 3pm. Wasn't busy at all! It's around some other cute food trucks around Fisherman's Wharf. I got got the espresso bean ice cream with a peanut butter cookie and cinnamon oatmeal cookie and oreo cookie topping ($6.95 + 0.50 per topping= $7.45). I felt like the cookies were pretty undercooked. I wished the peanut butter cookie had peanut chunks or something to bring out the peanut flavor more. The cinnamon oatmeal cookie had a good balance of cinnamon, but I wish it wasn't so undercooked. The espresso bean ice cream was creamy and smooth, though the espresso flavor was not strong at all and I prefer chocolate chips or something mixed in with my coffee flavor (though I guess that's how they get you to buy more toppings). There also wasn't not enough oreo crumbs in my opinion. My friend got the cinnamon oatmeal cookie and an M&M cookie with cookies and cream ice cream and M&M toppings and whipped cream. She also thought the oatmeal cookie was undercooked, but she felt the M&M cookie was overcooked. She also felt while the ice cream was good, there was not enough cookies in her cookies and cream and it was just overly sugary. We forgot to get our cookies pressed, which probably would have elevated it. Wished the server would have asked us, but still on us for forgetting! If I was in the area, I would possibly give it another try. read more
