the location is lovely if you can find it, do they have a sign? the staff were sweet and welcoming. the food was mediocre and that's being kind. the carpeted room off to the side smelled like mold. we paid way too much money, it really wasn't worth it. shame because it could be great but they need someone with real expertise to help them achieve what they're trying to do. read more

Went to Barley Hound Ambiance nice and clean with good music. Mint water is a good touch. Young man who attended to us was funny and sarcastic in a good way. There was a large party when we went for lunch. Everything was going well. We ordered the mushroom they were very good. Husband ordered the ribs and chicken with fries and I ordered the Cod Piccata with gluten free pasta which is right for me because of my food sensitivities. I did ask if they could removed the tomatoes, one of foods that I am allergic to. Well it took a long while and after an hour and a half our food finally arrived. My husband food was fine, but my pasta beautiful well presented BUT THE TOMATOES WERE IN MY DISH, when I Requested Not to have them on my plate. I should just left it alone, but they offered to redo and the redo dish was far worse, the Pasta dry, it tasted like artificial lemon juice, no butter, needed salt and pepper and tasted watery, VERY DISAPPOINTED. They didn't offer a discount, we paid our bill and left and I started having a food reaction and took some Benadryl to stop the swelling. The outdoor setting at the Barley Hound is lovely, with many tables outside shaded by trees or umbrellas, or up on the porch which has ceiling fans to keep you cool. They had a pleasant mix of classic rock /pop playing which set the mood for trying some local brews. I started with a blueberry cider from Superstition Meadery which was a deep blue color, full of ripe blueberry taste and very smooth and refreshing. The veggie burger was excellent: ample size made from black beans, sweet potato and rice to give it a crunch plus plenty of tomato, onion and lettuce. I had it without cheese and also with a gluten-free bun which was very good, definitely baked locally, not pulled out of a freezer like some other restaurants use. I stole some of my husbands duck fat fries which were very good, crispy and almost sweet tasting. I like that they serve water with fresh mint, a nice touch. read more

2nd visit, 1 year later. Crisp and attentive service. A menu listed cocktail landed on my table quickly upon being seated - the place was reasonably busy for a Thursday evening meal - along with a jug of water. Nice touch as always. Started with the Mac and Cheese. This go round was meh, unfortunately. The serving bowl had plenty to enjoy, but there was water at the bottom after I finished. Mushy more than cheesy. I would order again, as everyone has a meh night. Could use a Hatch chili or hotter mix-in besides the usual bacon, tomatoes, etc. Followed up with the American Burger - really a treat - with a very nice Caesar Salad instead of fries. Both were outstanding! The burger is big enough to split with someone and still be pretty filling. If you try that option, be sure to order a 2x sized Caesar salad. You will be left wanting more! Wish there had been a wider dessert option available (1 item only at present) and perhaps that will be an option next time I'm in town to enjoy another visit. The Barley Hound is just one of those very nice small-ish town neighborhood run places you can't go wrong when you are entertaining or just want a night out on the town. We came here for a lunch and then a brunch while in the Prescott area. I had a good grilled cheese with artichokes and aundried tomatoes, and my husband had a good pulled pork sandwich. We both liked it. I dodnt really like the sweet honey mustard dressing that came wirh my side salad, though. My dog liked his steak and rice ona Frisbee! Ate at the Barley Hound last night and it will likely be the last time I ever eat there. I'd had "ok" experiences before. The best part is the ambiance, great patio and cute old house for indoor dining. But the disappointment of the food/beverages with the added feel of your server not doing his job and then overcharging you is the worst. There were 4 of us. We started out with a bottle of wine and a couple appetizers. So far so good. Took quite a while for him to take our food order but eventually we did. And then we waited... We attempted to order a second bottle of the wine we had but were told there were no more. Only thing available was a more expensive bottle. We ended up ordering it. Matching the price of the original was not offered. When asked about the time it was taking for our meals to come the server actually said it was his fault. We let it go, tried to joke about. Eventually 3 of our 4 meals were delivered which included the duck burger, short ribs, steak and fries. When the 4th meal of haddock finally arrived it was cold inside. Hmmm...had they cooked it from frozen. Meal was sent back, but was no better when it came out a second time. At this point we were done eating so she sent it back and they did offer to remove it from the bill. Here is the real kicker that bothered me enough to write this review. Per the menu the duck burger is to come with provolone, dijonaise, arugula, and cranberry jam. It arrived with the meat and some greens on the bun. That's it. I was hungry and considering the issues up to that point I decided just to eat it. I did request some mustard and was asked dijonaise or brown? I said both. Imagine my surprise later when my husband showed me the bill and I find we were charged $1.50 for each of those little dollops of mustard that were brought to me. One that was supposed to have been on the burger from the beginning! No cheese, no cranberry jam, and no dijonaise, and then charged for the mustard as a side. To me this is a failure of the kitchen and the server. The burger is presented open. He should have clearly seen the meal wasn't completed. So here is my final recommendation. You won't be disappointed with the ambiance, but be prepared for whatever they serve and look over your bill before you pay!! read more

We dined here a few years ago and were looking forward to returning. We secured a reservation on Open Table as it's always a good idea to get a reservation. We sat outside in the pleasant weather. We started with the fried pork rinds - they came out hot and cracklin'!!! So good! My husband had the pork chop and Caesar salad. The pork chop was good, but not amazing. This restaurant is located in an old Victorian house. The menu offers distinctive delicious food, that is not run of the mill,. They have a nice variety of craft beers. We ordered the burrata and house made veggie burgers. Both were exceptional. The glass water pitcher on your table has sprigs of fresh mint in it, which we loved. read more

Dog friendly, good food and a very comfortable environment is how I would describe The Barley Hound! This place seems to be one of the most ideal spots to dine with your dog which is why it was quite busy. My husband, puppy and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon, had to wait 30 minutes but it's to be expected. Once we were seated we were greeted right away and there were dog dishes full of water at every table that had four legged companion. The menu has so many apps/shareables which looked amazing! I wish we had more people with us so we could have mixed and matched but my husband and I decided to try the fried green tomatoes. You received two large slices of green tomato with a light fry and a sauce that went with it very well. The only feedback - it seemed extra saucy, to the point that we were scraping excess sauce off so we could taste more of the tomato. After the tomato, we shared a cubano with the side of truffle fries. The fries were good but the cubano was delicious! My husband and I were very impressed and what made it was the spread that they added to it! The meat was juicy and we both couldn't stop talking about it! Probably our favorite cubano to date! Lastly we finished with churro bites to go and unfortunately, we do not recommend. We just walked from the Barley Hound to the grass area to eat and they were hard as rocks! My husbands favorite treat is churros, he tossed them all after one bite. This was very sad. Overall, we enjoyed our visit, we'd go again and try something different. We came here on a cold, rainy, quiet evening with our dog. The staff at barley hound worked with us easily to get us seated somewhere warm and dry with our pup. Don't expect to get a table without a reservation Cucumber watermelon marg was super refreshing and I don't even love watermelon in general! I had the arugula blackberry salad- the fish was cooked perfectly and everything in the salad was great but it was over dressed so I'd recommend getting the dressing on the side. That being said, it was still delicious! My husband got the wagyu burger and it was amazing! It was cooked perfectly and the dressing and onions gave it a nice balance of flavors. The Barley Hound was such a fun restaurant to visit in Downtown Prescott! The energy here is so magical. I came here on a sunny Saturday and sat in their beautiful outdoor area. I was pleased to find that they had a few solid vegan options! I initially ordered a vegan burger with a gluten free bun, but was sad to find that the burger contains panko bread crumbs and the fries are fried in duck fat. Being allergic to wheat that was not an option, but my waitress was super accommodating and went out of her way to make sure there was something I could eat! Instead I went with a delicious quinoa bowl that contained tofu that tasted exactly like orange chicken. I do not know how they did it but it was incredible! It was not busy, and the atmosphere was great. Both my friend and I ordered the Beet Salad. For $18.00 this better be a kicka*s salad. Sadly, it was not. I think there were maybe (3) beets on a hug bed of greens. There was supposed to be a yogurt sauce on the bottom of the plate, did not have any. The hazelnuts did not make it to the party either, but there were huge pieces of cucumber and a lot of them. No flavor at all. Very disappointed. The bread included was dry and burned. The Grecian Flatbread is a new item on the menu and was just ok. Again, not a lot of flavor. The mousse was different, it tasted good, but the consistency was grainy. I felt so embarrassed for advocating for this place. Upon arrival we were pleased with the wonderful ambiance with the fire pit up front. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. Since our reserved table was not ready, we were offered a newly upstairs area that was set up like a living room. Great idea. With that being said, they need to be very careful about allowing the public up there. I noticed several safety concerns. Our server was super kind and sweet. She really did her best to make sure we felt attended to. so why only two stars? (It would be one star but the hostess and server earned them a star for being awesome!) While the food choices looked appetizing, several items that we had attempted to order was off the menu. When the food that we settled on arrived, it was over cooked and over seasoned. No one on my party finished their meal. I had grilled cheese and the bread was burnt. The restaurant has lots of potential. I wish the best for them. Had a horrible experience this past Sunday. There were 4 of us and we ordered a couple of appetizers and main courses. After 20 minutes I noticed the table in front of me had just received the same 2 appetizers we ordered. Weird?? After another 10 minutes I inquired with the server and she went to check. The table in front of us then turned to us and asked if the appetizers they received were ours as they didn't order them - ugh. Long story short, we were there over an hour before getting any food as they then placed the full order again once they realized it went to another table. There was a gentleman that apologized and said we'd be taken care of however that didn't happen the original server was not very sympathetic. We came in on a Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm with a party of 11. The hostess was extremely unfriendly. She replied that she didn't think they could accommodate our party but would check with the chef. She came back and said no sorry we can't seat you. We asked what if we split into two groups? Still no. Mind you, there were THREE tables full of people, that's it. They informed us that they had a large party coming in later. We asked to speak to the manager. He came out and stammered something about a large party coming in later and that he wished he could help us but just couldn't. We left and when we walked back by 2 hours later, it appeared that this "large party" was just arriving. There were like four men being seated. Not sure why this restaurant couldn't have served us. Between our two families we had 3 special needs kids and 3 of the kids are of color. Maybe they didn't like that... makes me wonder for sure. Complaints: - They removed scotch eggs and shishito peppers from their menu which were amazing - A descent draft beer is $9 and the selection is minimal for a gastropub - Their servers are sky high (hopefully, otherwise I worry for them) Wife ordered the short rib grilled cheese on gluten free bread. First they brought her a grilled cheese on regular bread without short ribs. She asked where the meat was and they apologized and remade it, again on regular bread. When she asked if the bread was gluten free they apologized and brought her a gluten free bun. How exactly do you transfer a grilled cheese from one bread to another??? Fukin ridiculous. - Had to ask for water 2 times - Had to ask for a box 2 times - The duck fat fries they pride themselves on are floppy and quite average Hopefully this place gets their chit back together, we used to love it. Okay first of all I will tell you what I love about this place. Cute house turned into a restaurant. Outside patio is really nice with lots of seating and a fire pit. Very dog friendly patio and the restaurant even has meals for dogs served in frisbees. I have been here three times and loved the first two times. This time the waiter wasn't very friendly, he was slower and didn't seem to know the menu very well. The food was mediocre we started with apps but just decided not to order dinner and we left to go somewhere else. 3.5/5 I did a search for dog friendly restaurants in Prescott and Barley Hound was #1 on the list, for good reason I suppose since they even have dog related words in their name! There's an adorable patio, deck and a special dog menu available for those that want to dine with their doggos. We had a cozy little spot on the deck next to the indoor entrance, a shady picturesque little table. Unfortunately the table wasn't fully cleaned and I got an all too good view of the last customer's salmon lox leftovers. After browsing through the menu I went for the veggie burger with side salad and shared the poutine. The poutine looked so nice when it came out! The fries were superbly cooked and all the ingredients were high quality but I didn't really feel like it was poutine. It tasted more like cheesy fries since the gravy seemed to be a cheese fondue-like concoction and there were no cheese curds, just shredded cheese. The veggie burger was as good as anyone can make a bunch of mashed red kidney beans taste lol. The edges of the burger were super crispy which made a nice contrast with the softer inner texture. It came with a lot of fresh high quality toppings such as ripe yellow tomatoes, whole grain mustard and red pickled onions. I wasn't a fan of my side salad which was too oily and didn't have enough flavor in the dressing. Service was friendly and sweet but a bit off. I have to question the cleanliness of their tableware as our forks and knives came served in a Mason jar that had debris inside of it, and one knife still had gross crusted bits on it while the other knife's handle was cracked and coming loose. The forks were clean at least. In addition we did have to remind our server that we had ordered drinks when she came to drop off our entrees otherwise we probably wouldn't have received them. Our total for 2 iced teas, sharing the poutine and 2 sandwiches was around $40 with tax. If I had the dogs with me again I wouldn't mind dining here although I might not get anything that requires using a knife! read more

I feel so bad for local businesses around here due to Covid and I know Barley Hound was closed for months during the peak Covid shutdown, and the limited food menu was good. BBBQ beef sliders, duck fat fries, but the margaritas were so not good. I'm not sure why but they are night and day from pre-Covid days. It's kind of a Bistro due to the changes, I sure hope they pull through because right now it's just a shell of itself. The hostess out front was very nice and I know everyone Juarez trying get by. But the margs are not up to par, maybe they don't make their own mix anymore or something? read more

However, we ordered the American Burger and the Mushroom Sliders, and the chef managed to burn BOTH the burger patty and the slider bun. It tastes horrible, and not to mention increasing your risk of cancer. We told the waiter and he said he will talk to the chef, but nothing happened. On a mission to find a restaurant that is dog friendly AND has gluten free menu options. This place has both!! Win! Covid has made eating out hard(ish) but I appreciate the efforts made by this establishment. Hand Sanitizer station, counter order food, tables outside, all felt comfortable considering the circumstances. The cauliflower nachos were amazing, enjoyed by everyone at the table, we added meat to ours. The duck fat fires were really good and the tacos were cool, served in the bag of chips. Yummy. The South West chicken salad with gluten free chicken was good. But a little disappointed by the chicken, more of a frozen gf chicken tender, out of the box and straight to the microwave, kinda gluten free fried chicken but the salad was plentiful!!
