It was also the start of restaurant weeks in Palm Springs which participating restaurant will offer dinner deals. Sunset was one of them. A two course meal which we opted out on. I booked a last minute dinner reservation for 8pm which we ended up running a little behind but called in to informed the restaurant. The sweet lady that answered which I also believe was the hostess was very accommodating. We did arrive about 10 min later which the table wasn't ready but could grab a drink at the bar while table was arranged. As we had a friend in town, we wanted to have one of the rocking tables but they were first come first served. Our table did come up but we ended up waiting a little longer till one of the rockers opened up. Hostess was very accommodating with us in regards of the table. Very sweet on her part. Bar tab had to be close there which we couldn't transfer over to dinner. Nicholas was the doll that took care of us. Very lively and a major sweetheart. Made sure that we were taken care of throughout the whole dining experience. Very sweet and bubbly even being short staffed. He made sure all this tables were accounted for. We didn't utilize the pre fix meal as what we wanted wasn't part of it. Started off an order of the aguachile which was a favorite last time and an order of the coconut jumbo shrimp. The flavors with both shrimp dish, very tasty in their own way. Coconut shrimp had a nice crunch and served with two dipping sauce. Aguachile, the lime marinade with jumbo shrimps with all the trimming was excellent. That was served with tortilla chips and a side of crackers. A good way to start. Also warm rolls with butter were also brought out. Entrees, one of us ended up full from the starter so an order of the pan seared dabs filet served with carrots and green beans and mashed potatoes. It was served over lemon capers sauce with three filet. Very tasty and light. Lastly, I had to go with the ciopinno as last time. A nice big hearty bowl at seafood. Big jumbo shrimp, mussels, clams and fish in a rich tomatoes broth. For an additional fee I added pasta to it. Totally worth it. Even though it was hot out, it was perfect. Too full for dessert as alway. This service experience was a major success. Service was great last time but the whole food situation was a fail. But tonight made up for that experience. We had a nice meal with drinks from the very start with checking in, having a drink at the bar while our table was ready to the meal. Nicholas was major doll throughout the whole dining experience and made sure we were taken care of. Service like this and a nice meal goes a very long way. We were informed that they were short staffed but for us, it didn't feel like it as the whole experience was great. Until next time.

We sat on the patio and the bartender could not have been more put out. I asked him a question about a signature cocktail on the menu, and he literally threw his head back, sighed and gave an angry non-explanation ending with ," . . . just like it says on the menu." When it was time to pay the bill, he was no where to be found. Not sure why, but I still tipped him 20%. For the third time I've been there, the kitchen was closed despite the website saying it would be open. Again, the bartender seemed angry that he had to explain that the kitchen was closed. Not sure if we were treated this way because we weren't staying at the hotel. One of my friends is from out of state and said, "He really doesn't like us." Not sure what to think.

Our server was extremely polite and very attentive with the drink refills. The menu is also pretty large and one thing I love about it is that it always has seasonal options. For this visit, I started off with the Chilled Lobster and Shrimp Ceviche which was a wonderful start to the meal and a real great choice for such a hot evening. For dinner I chose the Chicken Schnitzel and really enjoyed it. The goat cheese mashed potatoes were very unique and the chicken was cooked perfectly. After an afternoon of travel, my wife and I decided to graze by ordering several appetizers instead of full entrées. The Burrata was excellent and easily my wife's favorite dish of the night. The Crab & Corn Agnolotti was also very good, and the Short Rib Ravioli with shimeji mushrooms was rich and comforting. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. The Grilled Spanish Octopus, which is considered one of their signature dishes, was extremely overcooked and chewy. It was disappointing enough that we asked to have it removed from the bill. Service also felt uneven compared to the other restaurants we visited during our stay. Nothing terrible, just not particularly warm or memorable. In the end, the rooftop views were the highlight more than the food itself. Palm Springs has too many outstanding dining options for us to return here on our next trip.

As for the heirloom salad, it had the most delicious beets and a goat cheese purée. The fresh fruit was a nice balance to the savory and salty from the beets and the cheese. To wrap up my tasty meal I decided to try the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. They come three to an order and are made fresh to order. The chocolate chip cookies were thick and gooey, and probably some of the best I have ever had.
