We got there late and the kitchen closed. But we had some nice buttery popcorn and kielbasa, along with plum sour beer and blueberry cider. Our bartender was great! Gave us advice on breakfast places, and I ended up liking the crusty blueberry pancake at Cafe This Way that he recommended! Would go back again! read more

We stumbled on The Barnacle our first night in Bar Harbor when we saw the small sign "oysters & cocktails" and we went every single night for the rest of our stay. Oysters were delicious drinks were even better. I'm big fan of kombucha and there are a number of cocktails utilizing (Portland's) Urban Farms Kombucha and they are phenomenal. I stuck with the Gin Bucha most nights and had some local sour beers as well. The service was great, Patrick was awesome and gave us a lot of great suggestions for our stay AND he makes a mean cocktail. Great atmosphere and vibe, definitely a quieter scene from the rest of Main Street but that made it all the better. read more

Came here on a Monday... drinks were decent...... but...... the service was... offensive to say the least. My friend (who is not from the US) had a nicotine device . While it's understandable that the bar may have a no vaping policy, we felt the bartenders reaction was a bit harsh. He reprimanded my friend and said that his nicotine addiction was a "moral weakness" verbatim. Sheesh. Cool bar but won't be back here due to the unwelcoming vibes. read more

We came here with the recommendation from another bartender. We were told it was the best lobster roll in town and the best bartender, Trevor. We were the first ones in there so we got to know Trevor. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area. Our food was delicious- we had a lobster roll, mussels and oyster Rockefeller. The Barnacle is hands down the best low key bar in Bar Harbor! We came here twice(!) over Labor Day weekend and the oysters were so amazingly fresh. Get the bar harbor blondes if they have them, we tried the same oysters elsewhere but you could tell the quality was just not as consistent and fresh as the ones at The Barnacle. The mussel pot and clam chowder here is also bomb, the menu is small but they make each dish really well. And of course, the beers and cocktails were on point! We tried a couple different ones on draft and the blueberry kombucha cocktail. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area, whether for drinks or dinner. read more

This place is definitely worth a stop for dinner and/or drinks. We stopped in for dinner after a hike in Acadia. At the time there wasn't a wait, but a line started to build soon after we sat down. We shared a cup of chowder, lobster roll, and mussels. It was the best chowder we had all weekend! The broth was rich with big chunks of potato and clam. The mussels and lobster roll were also delicious. The roll was prepared with fresh lobster meat that was super tender. read more

I am once again reviewing the barnacle! I came here last year for a lobster roll and enjoyed it so much I had to have it again. This roll still stands as my favorite lobster roll ever. Warm bun, perfect amount of mayo, generous pieces of lobster. I also enjoyed a blueberry cider! I remember the waiter/bartender being excellent last year and had the same experience this year. We stopped into the barnacle on a whim in an effort to get some oysters and some beers in a relaxed environment. Immediately we could tell they were taking covid precautions seriously, sacrificing space inside the very small interior to keep things properly spaced out. The one man team of waiter and bartender knocked it out of the park with service, being prompt and courteous, with a good sense of humor. The beers and wine selections were varied but succinct, just enough choice to find what you like. The cocktails are delicious, the ones blended with kombucha were amazingly delicious and unique. We only made it here twice in our week stay, but definitely aim to return next time we are in bar harbor! read more

Chill bar on Main Street in Bar Harbor. Our bartender Jya had great suggestions on drinks and food and mixed a great cocktail. The bar specializes in bourbon. Jya mixed a perfect Manhattan and Old Fashion. Her music selections were also good and the music didn't overpower the conversation. People entered the bar strangers but left friends. Pretty pathetic to think I went from 5 stars to 1. It's been exactly 2 years since my last visit. I had the best time last time and it was my husband my mother in law and my almost 3 month old baby and our jack russel terrier in a bag frequenting this perfect bar. The female bartender was a dream to deal With and she recommended this sour bear before sours became a thing it was alagash avance. Omg it was the best thing I ever tried. This time I had to deal with a male bartender who we ordered oysters to go x 2. And then an hour later my bff went in to chase her first high. Searching for the alagash sour I had 2 years ago when I drank my first sour ever. That moment introduced me to the sour world and what a world it was to live in!! I was really happy about food and drink and vibe from this spot. But when I walked inside today, 2 years later to reminisce and get reacquainted with my love fest of the Barnacle, the bartender dude immediately asked me to leave my outside drink outside which I totally understood and happily did. Then he asked me to wear my mask and while I had it on my neck wrapped around with a mask chain he was a bit harsh in his delivery and threw out whatever regurgitated pseudo-scientific make shift self proclaimed one sided wine dimensional fact he learned about micro droplets of saliva without any scientific backing but because he said it that means it should be spot on instead of the simple request...wear your mask. What a piece of work! I was just drinking and ready to order another drink and food, but he clearly judged me before I had a chance to do the very thing I was so looking forward to doing after 2 years...returning to my favorite bar in Bar Harbor. Too bad I wasn't welcomed. So sad because as a Hispanic woman I've recommended it to so many friends that have frequented the place. They've taken the same journey or will be taking the same journey as me. Bring the lady bartender back!!! I missed seeing her and her beautiful energy. I hope you didn't break up with her. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon just walking by for a Bloody Mary. The place was pretty empty, but very charming inside. Wendy, the bartender greeted us pleasantly and made our my boyfriend a spicy Bloody Mary and me a less spicy one. Both were just to our liking. We also ordered a cold brew nitro coffee which was fantastic. We did not order food here although we wish we did , the place we ended up for lunch was horrible. So after lunch we came back here to visit Wendy and had a blueberry Kombucha martini! Yum yum! If you like a local spot that is a little unique, stop in here, get an app, some drinks, and talk to Wendy about the man bun! read more

This bar/restaurant is right on Main Street in the middle of Bar Harbor. They have a good selection of local beers as well as a full bar. The lobster roll is served just as it should be. Nice fresh chunks of lobster with just a touch of mayo and some other spices. The roll was soft, fresh and full of melted butter. The beer selection ranged from local to most domestic types. The place has tables around the outside of a bar that take up most of the inside space. They have a full menu, however, and while we only had the lobster roll, it was outstanding. Visited in September for drinks and appetizers/snacks before dinner elsewhere with the family, and must say that we kept trying so much food because it was really good, that we could barely eat anything for our actual dinner! We tried a variety of wines and drinks, and the dark n stormy was our favorite. We also tried their oysters, mussels, clam chowder, and hotdog - everything was amazing. I went there two nights while I was in Bar Harbor over labor day weekend. Bartender was Trevor. Best Bartender I've ever seen hands down. The dude was by himself serving 30+ people food and drinks while at the same time entertaining them. There were only two dishes. Oysters and a pretzel. I didn't say much, just sat at the bar and observed. It was a highlight of the trip. Trevor was so insanely busy, but still getting to customers better than most waiters and waitresses in your standard restaurant. Nice to meet you Trevor, killer job man. This was just the restaurant we were looking for when the weather was chilly after a day of hiking. It may not look like much from the outside but head inside and you'll find a relaxed and welcoming environment. Order the clam chowder and you won't be disappointed.
