We were excited to come here and try their Poke Nachos but ended up slightly disappointed. The ambiance was decent; we got to sit by the beach and watch people swim/surf and just people watch but our server was so slow and barely checked on us. It was hot and we kept waiting for our refills. The poke nachos tasted pretty good. I loved the house made fried wonton chips. The batter and sauce made the texture of the chips slightly sticky which was so good. The ahi pieces were too chunky and they probably only gave around 8-10 slices which was a little bit. If they cut the pieces in half, then it would have been a lot better. Our son's chicken tender meal was not good. The chicken tender was dry, bland tasting and literally tasted like it came out the fridge. The fries were really bland too and didn't have a good fresh fry taste. We even ordered their house Mai Tai which looked pretty but tasted like over poured vodka with hints of pineapple juice. Our cocktail and food experience was not a good one here. Sure, it was nice to eat under a Banyan tree but the service and food here at The Beach Bar was a C- I won't be coming back. read more

It's a must to eat at The Beach Bar and get their famous Mai Tais! I love that it's beach front and we can easily walk from our beach set up and back. We came here just after watching sunset on Waikīkī beach hoping for some good drinks and live music by the sea. Beach bar's classic Mai Thai is not good- don't bother with it, but the Moana Mai Thai with passion fruit and lime juice was a lot better as was my wife's passion fruit spritz. Beach please, this is some of the best food on the island! There is nothing I can meaningfully complain about. The views? Impeccable. The staff? Professional. The food? To die for. Went here a few times for dinner with the rents, a quick snack, or even just a drink. The seat yourself policy allows you to get the best views! They have live music as well. I still dream about the poke bowl- the don't skimp on the tuna which is so fresh (it melts like butter in your mouth). The salad with the catch of the day (mahi mahi) was also delightful. Overall, would definitely recommend this place. My significant others mom got hit by a kid on a surfboard, had her face gashed open, had to go to the Urgent Care, and we all agreed to meet back at the beach bar. That says it all. read more

First come first serve, therefore, it may take time to get a table here. That being said, I felt it was worth the wait. My only complaint about my experience is that the bar/grill is literally next to the Hotel Pool. The pool being next door didn't bother me. Noise and people never bother me. What bothered me is that this family was saving a table while they were at the pool and beach. They weren't even sitting at the table or had ordered any food etc. We thought the table was empty being that 1. No one was at the table. 2. No food or drinks were on the table. Lastly, 3. There was just a check and a staff member told us we could sit there. So to our surprise we were shocked when the server asked us to leave the table since it belonged to someone else. After 5 minutes of us standing there looking around the server came back to us and told us to just sit there. So, unsure if they had to wait a certain amount of time before giving up the table. I've had drinks here many times over the decades. They're not inexpensive. This time was special thanks to Sean (our unbelievably considerate/friendly/smart/fun server) and our table's great location for looking at Diamondhead and the beach in general. What doesn't do it for me (but must be great for a lot of people) is the live music - personally, I don't feel right having a conversation when someone is performing for me right there - and I want to have a conversation when I'm having a cocktail. What's not to like? A full round-table bar just a few feet from the sand of Waikiki Beach. The Pina Coladas are cold and sweet. I had the luxury of being a hotel guest of the Moana Surfrider, so charging everything to the room without having to carry my credit card around was great. I wish they had more seating during the live music- every night I did have to find a table in the back. There were also times when it was hard to get the bartender's attention, even when the bar wasn't that crowded. Food-wise we only had the Poke Nachos. I was surprised by how good the food was at a hotel restaurant especially since it's just a beach bar. I did the Mai Tai, which was surprisingly strong but a little too sweet. The portions were huge but a bit pricey as expected for a resort spot. I just wanted some garlic fries and they were the super thick cut kind. So much buttery garlic goodness! We also did some poke nachos which came with the thick wonton chips, and it was amazing. We also ordered from here when we did the cabana rentals and I went with poke the next day. Grabbed lunch here after visiting the hotel's spa. Our, I should say, we were lucky enough to grab a table for lunch. The open seating makes certain tables a bit commodity. And we were there when the wait staff were bussing their own tables. That said, service was great as was what we ordered. I had a mango daiquiri and the ahi poke bowl. He had the garlic prawns and a vodka soda. I was expecting the poke bowl to have more than ahi and rice, but the flavors were really good, and the ahi was fresh. His dish said it came with veggies... which was basically a salad with mixed greens and cherry tomatoes. The dressing was good, and the prawns were tasty. On a sustainability note, it would be awesome to ditch the angle use cups and such to reusable. I understand that the cups are compostable... but since there is no compost on the island, the cups are going to the landfill and really just adding more methane to the atmosphere. The service here -- maybe it was the end of the shift, but we were served our drinks--and then no service for a long time. We had to wave our server down to order food. The alcohol beverages were served in glasses. Water and my plantation iced teas were served in plastic cups. And another serving of plantation iced tea was served in a new cup so if environmental impacts matter... Water refills needed to be requested. The poke nachos --I liked. It was a nice portion at the same time it costs $34. The Blue Bird (smoked turkey, lettuce, tomato, bacon, smasned avocado, bleu cheese ranch on ciabatta with seasoned fries. I think I would have enjoyed this as a traditional club sandwich. The fries were good--thicker cut. While we were there--5:30-9:30, there were three different solo performers (that I noticed) two performed Hawaiian music, the third--mostly classic pop. Nice sunset views with tables closest to the beach. You can tell when it's close to sunset as people stand and move toward the sunset with phone in hand. Better food and service can be had elsewhere. If you're looking for a place to hang out without a time limit and if you don't mind having to call the wait staff--relax and enjoy the sunset and the music. read more

Because of the view and literally located on the beach side they jack up the menu since solely they targeted tourists. It's been my 4th time in here but the last visit hit me. The food vs the service. * Shoyu Honey Glazed Chicken Wings - sauce is good but the meat is dry. * Keiki Grilled Cheese - comes with cheddar, swiss toasted white bread, seasoned fries and fruit cup. It was pretty god despite to its simplicity. The fries were crunchy and served hot. It was even seasoned well. * Riptide - a mix of koloa coconut rum, pineapple, coconut cream & mint with a swirl of ube. Refreshing a smooth down to my throat! I love it but not as much as with my wife's drink. * Virgin Island Daiquiri - the real refreshing drink of the day! If I'll be coming here, Imma grab this drink for myself - virgin all the way! The strawberry flavor is not that strong but good enough to taste the soury-sweet flavor. Wished they got at least kama'aina or military discount. It's just a rip off. The view is sometimes annoying or good. Its just the crowd swooshing around and you can't even have peace of mind while staring the horizon in Waikiki. Service - great! Each time we are back home, we go the Moana Surfrider, sit outside at The Beach Bar, and either have drinks or a meal. Our wedding reception was at the Moana a long time ago and whenever we are back, we make sure to go there to reminisce. You cannot change the wonderful location. One of the most iconic and beautiful hotels, the waves crashing on the shore, etc., cannot be beat. My issue with the ambiance is that you need to play to your audience. The majority of patrons are not local. There are a few, but most are visitors. I have been there twice in the last year and both times there was live music. You would think that they would be playing Hawaiian music. Nope. Both times we were there the soloist played pop, country, 80s, etc. It made the atmosphere weird. Maybe we just went on nights that didn't have Hawaiian music, but I thought it was odd. I assume that the bartenders out there have some seniority. It is probably the best place to make tips. You would think that would mean some personality, but no. They are the driest, non-smiling bartenders. They are competent, but don't seem to be enjoying their jobs. Before you think it was me, I am friendly to everyone and can talk to anyone. Nope. Our waitress on the last trip was nice, but, honestly, I think she was nicer to us because we look like locals. We are but have been gone for 25+ years. Now for food. Meh. All was okay. Had The Blue Bird sandwich (smoked turkey, lettuce, tomato, bacon, smashed avocado, bleu cheese ranch, ciabatta) with fries. Nothing spectacular, but edible. Also had the bread pudding which again was just okay. If it wasn't for the beautiful setting, I would give this a 3-star rating. read more

Sadly, I used to love this place! Ordered the poke nachos and C-Rider Bowl. Nachos were pretty good but not much poke on them. The C-Rider was sent back as the first two bites of different fish were definitely spoiled! So disappointing. Our service wasn't very attentive either. We could have used more water a few times and our check a lot sooner than received. Very sad that it's gone downhill. I won't be back. You get a beach side ocean view seat here. Walk in and seat yourself at any available table. So easy and no hassle. By the way, our first choice was Duke's, but even to just sit at the bar was a 30 minute wait. Mai Tais/cocktails were $18. Their specialty cocktails were $21. The $18 Mai Tai is a good choice-fresh fruit and a good alcohol kick. Our server was friendly and checked in on us a few times while we were there. Tip: if you are okay with no ocean view and don't want to pay that much for a cocktail you can walk across the street to Princess Kaiulani for happy hour cocktail prices starting at 3pm everyday. We didn't order any food but we saw a lot of food being served. It looked good. It's kind of pricey, but hey, it's Waikiki. read more
