I recommend making one if you know in advance. The juices were all so beautiful and tasted delicious. The beignets were, warm, light and fluffy. It's definitely a share size. My friends and I shared the crab and shrimp eggs Benedict and the macadamia coconut pancakes. The pancakes were delicious, but the syrup is fairly sweet. Unfortunately, the service was slow for us. The beach was overflowing with people, it's now a tourist trap. My $70 steak was dry and I was very disappointed with it. They did have a very good short rib ravioli. We made reservations 3 days in advance and it was pretty much pointless, we even called to double check, and it got us nowhere. The weather is nice and I enjoyed my meal at your restaurant, which all of my family likes. But the behavior of our table waitress made us feel bad. Her name is Nancy and when I asked her for the receipt after the meal, she suddenly pointed her finger at us and ignored it and passed by. I don't think it's possible for an employee to hold back with finger to a customer. I wonder if you are educating employees to behave this way. I had a delicious meal after a pleasant break, but her behavior completely ruined my mood. It seems that education is needed to prevent such behavior from ever again. read more

We tried to visit on Saturday when we rolled in but they only allow parking across the highway and shuttle you to the restaurant and we didn't have patience for all that so we decided to change plans. We made reservations online through Open Table and we were lucky enough to have Hector as our server. We started with the Ahi Tiny Tacos which were yummy although I would have preferred the ahi to be a little colder. My husband ordered the Spring Salad and enjoyed it immensely. My friend ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos and as shown in the picture there was a very large portion of coleslaw and 2 huge pieces of fish. She was very happy with her selection. I ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi over mashed potatoes with broccolini and I loved every bite. We ended with a huge slice of Pineapple Cake that we shared, no picture because we devoured it immediately after it was served. Jesus was truly the highlight of my experience at Beachcomber Café. The entire staff was welcoming, friendly, and attentive, but Jesus stood out from the moment I was seated. Experience a mini hike adventure through an artist tunnel, to dining with sand in your feet with waves right in front of you. And decent food now! Fun little town experience. Located on Crystal Cove Beach (paid parking across the highway, walk or pay for shuttle to the beach cove area). It's been over a decade since I've visited and its changed. The food is ALOT better. The beach area: Plenty of folks sunbathing, swimming, etc. GREAT place for seniors too because of free BEACH WHEELCHAIRS to use at the cove area, and shuttle access. No appt available for 5ppl. Larger parties of 7 and more to call in. They said for larger groups, can walk-in; it'll take about 1-2hr wait. But there's beach things to do if anything. We can go early to wait for a table, and hangout around the beach. You give them your ID, and they'll give you a buzzer. Google Maps will take you to the beach side where the parking rangers will tell you to u-turn, and drive across the highway to the correct parking area. 1. $20 Pay for parking. They take credit card, and there is a senior discount. This lot can get full quick. On a weekday, it seemed to almost be full by 1pmish. I'd imagine it full very quick on a weekend. Getting to the restaurant from this parking lot. For seniors and those with walking ability of small elevation upward/downward of 20min-30min stroll -- 2a. Shuttle Area: $2 per person each way, no rsvp needed. It closes at 10pm? It was recommended to take the shuttle back for those who would have difficulty with the upward long stroll back. Anyone with hip issues, I recommend taking the shuttle back. 2b. Behind the shuttle is the public restroom. In between the restroom and the shuttle is a path walkway. Make left for the easy path to the cove/restaurant area. You'll stroll on a flat dirt road, through a tunnel full of colorful art, to out toward a parking lot and shuttle drop off area. This area also has the beach wheelchairs to use for free (for disabled and elderly). If you have someone with hip issues or certain abilities for walking, but they want to try the stroll....on person could walk first or shuttle first to the area to pick up a beach wheelchair to be ready for when the person needs it? Just an idea. I have not tried this yet and unsure if the wheelchairs are have distance constraints like some shopping carts at grocery stores. Crystal Cove town has a store (they call a visitor center), wood plank strolling path, rental cottages (difficult to rent online because its so popular), etc. 3. Restaurant: Check-In at the front. Seating indoors the main restaurant. The patio was enclosed when we visited. There is indoors of that or the enclosed patio. BUTT I recommend the beach side which is a short stroll to the left side of the restaurant. However, you'll have to be patient with slower service here due to being further way from the main restaurant. There are limited tables here. During waiting for a table we can stroll the beach. - Give them your ID, and they'll give you a buzzer. Once it buzzes, just stroll back to the front to get your seat. - Tables are small, and entree plate are huge. It is difficult if you plan to share entrees for your party. Food: Alaskan Cod Fish & Chips$22.00 - it can be made dairy free. Not bad. Lots of fish pieces. I also asked for the fries to be double fried, which was done okay. Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi$32.00 - can be made dairy free. The mash potatoes were made dairy free for me too!! This was fine. First off, the service my friend and I received was amazing. It was pretty busy and our waiter was running all over the place but he was super friendly and super accomodating. The Kung Pao Calamari however was dissappointing. The crispy rice noodles were kind of stale and the calamari was chewy. The only thing I would recommend is the beignets which we ordered with the idea of eating some of it and taking home the rest, but it was so good we ate the entire plate there. The whip cream and chocolate syrup wasn't too sweet so it balanced the powder sugar super well. The beignet itself is fluffy and not doughy and that was how we ate the entire plate. Came here during New Years day lunch and honestly the wait wasn't too bad at all. One thing about this place is that they'll make you park at the state parking lot for $15 and there's a specific beachcomber shuttle that you have to pay $2 per way, per person. Honestly that's pretty crazy. That's already about one meal that you have to pay to park and take a shuttle to get there. We ended up deciding to walk there which was honestly the best choice. It. wasn't too far either, maybe a 10 minute walk, but the walk is also like a strong into a nice area to get to the beach. It was pretty rainy this weekend as well, but luckily the roads and sand weren't too wet, definitely manageable. The cafe is literally located on the beach, so you get a beach view while dining! We actually got there around 11:10am and we were told that once we are seated it'll be for the lunch menu. We actually came for brunch, but luckily a good amount of items that we wanted were from the lunch menu, so that was totally fine! We then got seated at the patio, which was honestly very nice. The fresh air, ocean view, lighting were all pretty nice. In fact, it was actually too bright lol but the lighting was very nice for photos. Starting with the appetizer, we shared the Tiny Ahi Tacos, which comes with four. The "taco shell" was very cripsy, ahi was very fresh, spicy mayo paried very well with the taco! This was a delicious starter. Then our entrees came in, which I shared a Beachcomber Kobe Burger with my friend, another got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich, and another got the Crispy Chicken Salad. All entrees were actually quite big in portion, so it was actually a great idea to share a burger or sandwich with another. The burger was quite juicy, very thick! We had it with the Pepper Jack cheese which was pretty nice. Fries were also solid. My friend also enjoyed her chicken sandwich, which she didn't get to finish at all. The chicken itself was literally massive and sticking way out of the bun. The crispy chicken salad was also pretty huge in portion, as I heard that there's a lot of greens that gets your mouth tired of chewing lol. Overall, the food and ambiance were all quite nice. Service was pretty friendly and efficient as well. Prices are around $25 which is kind of high for entree meal, but it's also probably Newport Coast price lol. The only downside to this place is getting here. I would probably revisit if I'm conveniently around Crystal Cove, otherwise I wouldn't say it's not really worth the trip just to go there for it. We came on a Tuesday for lunch, when greeted by the host we were informed there was a bit of a wait so we grabbed a drink at the bar to start. We were seated outside about 15 minutes later. The Beachcomber (cocktail) 4/5: this drink tasted absolutely amazing and on the sweeter side. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in getting a drink here, my only comment is that I could barely taste any alcohol in the drink. Mahi Mahi Tacos 4/5: The Mahi Mahi fish itself was a little bit dry, but it had good flavor and came with a good amount of fish and avocado (which some places skimp on but not this one!!) Fish and Chips 4/5: They were what you expected fish and chips to taste like. Although the breading looks heavy it was very light and airy which made each bite super crispy. Clam Chowder 4.5/5: I absolutely love clam chowder and this one had an amazing taste, I wish it had more clams though. I got the frittata and found it too dry/dense, wasn't a fan. The skillet hash my friend got looked much better. My partner liked his coconut-macadamia pancakes. Beachcomber Cafe is a restaurant literally located on the beach at Crystal Cove State Park in Newport/Corona Del Mar, one of the most pristine, hidden gems on the California coast. Parking at Crystal Cove is $20 and it's a short walk to the restaurant or you can pay an additional $2/per person for a shuttle to the restaurant. My wife and I opted to take the 8-10 minute walk to the restaurant from the parking lot. It's a beautiful pathway lined by foliage (and, apparently, poison ivy). My ratings tend to skew more toward food than ambiance and service. If you care about having a cute brunch at a five-star location, this this can be a four star experience. If you are like me and you look more at the food, then it's solidly three stars. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was texturally one note. Their beignets are puffed and hollowed out like a cream puff and it tastes great with the provided whipped cream, maple syrup, and jams. I ordered a bloody mary, which looks good for the Gram, but is otherwise okay. I liked that it came with a garlicky shrimp and crab claw. I definitely needed all the provided veggies and pickles to down most of the drink. My wife ordered their short rib hash and it had a lot of short rib and less of the hash - it was like a stew, that went well with the provided toasted sourdough. Honestly, the main attraction here is the five star location for a date/boozy brunch with their mimosas and cocktails, but be ready for the Newport Beach prices. If that's what you want, then make a reservation ahead of time, plan for the 10 minute walk in the State Park to get to the restaurant, and enjoy the ocean front view. We went yesterday on a busy weekday around 6pm without a reservation and were told 30min - 1hr wait for an outdoor table for 3. They were able to seat us within 25 minutes. We wanted to try some dishes we hadn't tried on previous visits, so we deflected to our serve Kaitlyn for good recommendations and she was extremely helpful. We started with the Tiny Ahi Tacos, which were delicious but relatively tiny like the name implies. We ordered the clam chowder, BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Blue Crab Stuffed Salmon and Butter Cake as our entree and dessert and everything was delicious. After a nice coastal stroll along the beach, we finally decided to try Beachcomber Cafe. Best place to park is right across and it's $14 for two hours or $20 for the whole day. To get to the restaurant there's a little walk down through the tunnel or there's a shuttle for $2 each way that is provided for your convenience. The wait wasn't too bad. There's a little shops and historic store next to the restaurant, where you learn about how Beachcomber started. The ambience reminds me a place in the big island that has that Hawaiian vibe to it. Our server Alexis is amazing. She brought condiments after we ordered that paired with our meals. We didn't have to ask. She always gave us status of every stage of drinks, apps, and main course coming out. Very professional and genuine. Everyone is great and the manager Andrew was welcoming and sociable making it feel like we were regulars. The greatest breakfast you will ever have. A quick note to anybody coming to the beach comber for breakfast. You are about to have your perception of French toast ruined. Ever since I had the French toast here. I cannot eat French toast anywhere else. The French toast these guys make is jaw dropping. The beignets are amazing as well. But hands down the French toast is what makes this my number one favorite breakfast spot out there. Best kept secret! Go to Crystal Cove! Now! The Maine Lobster Club and prefect Hot fries , & Mahi Mahi Tacos were delicious. Tasty cocktails. Taylor our server was so nice, helpful, The owner can out and greeted each guest, I loved that! Being on the sand, less than 50 feet from the water, it was a windy day, it was very pleasant with the retractable walls, to provide warmth, along with the heaters.
