Wow! I am.so glad we didn't eat at the hotel. We decided to find somewhere other than the hotel for breakfast. We were looking for an independent, family restaurant, and we found it. We are not from the area, but we are in the area from time to time. Everyone was friendly and were greeted with smiles! It didn't take me any time to decide I would have menudo. My wife had the Cancun omelette. And of course, coffee! My menudo lacked a bit in the amount of tripe, but the flavor was very good. We'll be back when we're in the area again. read more

Today was not our first time at The Best Breakfast Cafe but it was even better than I remember. We were greeted the moment we walked through the door and we were seated immediately. Our server was excellent. We both had omelettes. Mine was the "Saviars", and my wife's was the "California ". I had great hash browns, and my wife had a fruit bowl. We both had toast and coffee as well. The atmosphere reminded me of an old time diner which I loved, and the portions were huge. The prices were very fair. A great place for breakfast. This place is small and reminds me of breakfast places I used to go when I was younger. Nothing fancy here, just good quality food at reasonable prices. I can't remember a time were I came here and it wasn't packed. Whether it's the best breakfast is debatable, but it definitely is up there. The coffee is excellent as well. Too bad there's really no opportunity to expand this place because it really needs it. You can expect a moderate amount of noise here and they also have some TVs to watch sports or whatever. This place has my heart for an awesome breakfast. Yes it can get crowded but the food and service are well worth it. Today we visisted again and it did not disappoint. I ordered the special omelette which allows you to create it with the toppings you like and added a side of roasted potatoes. So good! Everything was seasoned perfectly, omelette was cooked through (no runny eggs), everything was fresh and tasted great. Our waitress was super nice and we had people constantly checking on our table asking if we needed more drinks or anything else. This is the "best breakfast" you'll find in the Port Hueneme area, to be sure. Definitely a local spot. It is a classic style diner with all of the standard breakfast items, and it looks like it has been around for a long time. The breakfast burrito was absolutely huge, literally the biggest breakfast burrito I've ever seen. It was enough for two people, maybe even three! Super good value there. Flavor wise it was average, but for the size, it's definitely a five-star item. We also got a few other scrambles that were pretty good, as was the French Toast. There were lots of other options to try on the menu. There is a bit of Mexican cuisine influence on some of the items. Nice for a bit of change from standard breakfast. We opted to pick up our order during a staycation at a local Airbnb. We ordered over the phone and it was ready pretty quickly. No issues or problems. They were also open earlier than everyone else. All smiles when you come in here. The team makes sure they warmly welcome you right when you get in the door. They have a cute small town vibe and I loved seeing the diverse group of humans sitting all around the restaurant. That really gave me comfort seeing many ethnicities breaking bread together. The selection of food they have on their menu is great. I had a hard time choosing one but eventually got the chicken and waffles. Ooooh the waffle was so soft and fluffy and crispy too. The chicken strips were ok in the outside, but the inside was juicy and tender. maybe if the batter was less like the country fried steak and more like a buttermilk crispy it would have been perfect. Regardless it was a good meal. My sister got the chorizo omelette and loved that minus the hashbrowns. The service was out of the park. We stopped here to eat brunch on our way down to LA. My husband and I ordered the traditional breakfast, and the eggs Benedict. The waiter brought out my husbands plate with a hair on it. I let him know right away and he took it back. He waited a few minutes and brought back the (same?) plate just colder. Both our plates came out cold, but our waiter did not check up on us since he gave us our food. The food itself wasn't that good, I honestly lost my appetite after seeing the hair, but then again eating cold eggs benedict was not appetizing either. This place used to be uncle herbs which had one the busiest breakfast restaurants in Ventura county. Well now it's called the best breakfast cafe. A lot of the menu had Mexican flare type breakfast. Not sure who the owners are but they did a great job. My 85 yo father had huevos Al a mexicana and I had chilaquiles verdes. Mmmmm mmm it was heavenly we both finished our plates. Overall the place has not changed a few updates to the establishment. Service was quick and for being busy they have a beautifully orchestrated workflow. I only only would say that they should select better coffee because it was suboptimal. Now I am a coffee snob but maybe if they had Arabic coffee it would that much better. I purchased a basic pancake platter and orange juice. After my 5 dollar tip it came to 30 dollars. So 30 dollars for 2 pancakes and eggs and frozen turkey sausage. Idk about that.
