    Olive, our excellent server.

6 of us thought the name was fun (each couple has a dog) so decided to come here for breakfast before heading off to a boat ride. The restaurant is on Beach Street along with other Black Dog stores and we found good close parking. All 6 of us enjoyed our breakfasts. My wife and I split a Happy Heff egg breakfast along with a fresh fruit bowl and we both liked it. Others in our party also enjoyed their breakfasts. Olive was our server and she has a good sense of humor and made sure everything was okay, coming back to the table a couple times. We're only in town for a couple days but all of us felt both the meal, location and service was good

We stopped here for lunch while spending the day on Martha's Vineyard. While we wanted to eat in Edgartown, we ended up in Vineyard Haven, and this place was recommended. Apparently Black Dog is a thing here. It is very much a sea shanty kind of place, with a fireplace and lots of dark wood. We were greeted and seated quickly. Our server was great at accommodating our requests, for which I am grateful. We ordered: *Tunamelt with bacon *Grilled salmon BLT Everything was delicious. Hubby said the tuna was the best he has had. The fries were also really good--very crispy with the perfect amount of salt. If you happen to find yourself in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard, give this place a try!

Visiting Martha's Vineyard for the first time, I knew I had to stop at The Black Dog Tavern--it's one of those iconic spots everyone talks about. The moment I walked in, I could feel the laid-back, nautical charm. The place has a cozy, rustic feel, with wooden beams, waterfront views, and the kind of relaxed energy that makes you want to stay a while. I was lucky enough to get a seat by the window, and the view of the harbor was unbeatable. Watching the boats while sipping on a drink made the experience even better. For food, I went with the clam chowder to start--hands down one of the best I've had. It was creamy, rich, and packed with flavor. For my main, I had the fish and chips, which were perfectly crispy and fresh. Everything tasted like it came straight from the ocean. Service was warm and welcoming, which added to the overall experience. It's the kind of place where you feel like you're getting a true taste of the island--great food, great views, and that classic Vineyard vibe. Whether you're a first-timer like me or a regular, The Black Dog Tavern is definitely a must-visit spot. I'll be dreaming about that Lobster Roll until I make it back!

Iconic tavern on the island. Overall food and drinks are ok and not mind blowing. But you come here for the vibes and the service is decent and you can tell they are actually trying. Would definitely recommend visiting. I had the spicy papa which was a ginger beer and non sweet version of a spicy marg. It was decent and the prices aren't bad.

We must have timed it wrong. Actually able to walk in for a table of 2 as others had to wait. Little did we know that it would take almost 60 minutes to see our food. Server did share that the food was coming and there was a back up. When our food arrived (salad and crab cakes) Tables around us who sat after us also got food. The remoulade on top of the crab cakes had dried a bit. Over all it was ok. Probably not on my list to come back. Bummer, I was truly excited about it.

Definitely check out their retail store. Great gifts and memorabilia to bring home.

Upon landing this should be your first stop to get your grub on. Glad I did my research!! The lobster roll was very fresh and huge pieces of lobster. Market price of course. Cole slaw was the best I have ever had in life and I am not even a slaw fan like that. Same with those pickle spears! What a special place. Service was attentive, without being overbearing. Cider was wonderful and based out of Harvard U. I forget the name. Accents out of this world. Yes, I just reviewed the accents. Very relaxing place to visit during the week for lunch. Walk around the island after and shop and feel the breeze. Can you tell that I am in love??! GO!

We had a really good breakfast at the Black Dog Tavern. We had kids at our table and they are very family friendly. Eating on the patio outside was really nice during June. It's covered so you avoid the direct sun.

It was fine, and probably one of the better meals we had on the Vineyard. Solid food good service. Just not exemplary

Thanks to yelp, I stumbled upon the shuck shack... easy to mix so check out the photos! This place has a true New England feel, with great views for people watching and beautiful scenery of the water and boats. The environment is very lively and they have a selection of raw and cooked seafood. I took a seat at the few stools at the bar, ordered a drink, clams, and shrimp. The shrimp were large and delicious! I also liked option to order half or full dozen. The clams, to my surprise, were shucked right in front of me.. great touch but word of advice.. don't make my mistake. There is a RAW section and COOKED section on menu and yes to my surprise, I accidentally ordered calms from the raw menu.. never knew raw clams were a thing ::cringe:: and after one try- definitely not a win for me. However! This place is a must, a true Vineyard experience with friendly servers and great views!!

The clams I had were steamed to perfection and the shrimp cocktail had huge shrimp in them. Their prices overall are very, very reasonable. But what makes it so special is the atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and competent. The view is unbeatable considering you are 10 feet from the harbor and have a perfect spot to watch the boats coming and going. A great value for your money.

Since my friends and I expected more offerings, we only had drinks, oysters, and salads. It wasn't too busy when we visited so the service was fine. Our waitress forgot to tell us the special. We overheard another waiter explaining the specials and my husband was quite upset because he would have ordered it. The actual food was not bad just not exceptional (it's kind of expensive but that's expected for the area and the location on the water). Once we got there I realized there is a lot on the menu you can't eat if you can't eat raw/undercooked fish. We got a few second courses to share - the goat cheese and carrots, lobster burrata, and beet gnocchi. Overall they were all good - felt clean and fresh. We got the halibut to share as well and the mushroom and garlic something side (recommended by our waitress). The sides were really good! Halibut was okay. Our water was not refilled until we asked. The first course dishes were not cleared until the next course came. Felt a little forgotten. But anyway can't regret the dinner cause the view was phenomenal.
