I've been to this restaurant at least a dozen times in the past decade, and if I had written this review any other year I would have given it 4 stars. But unfortunately, this last visit in September was terrible! There is a new smaller menu (with a lot of cutesy names.) They serve breakfast & brunch from morning to afternoon, so a lot of the lunch type items seem to be gone. My mug of chowder was delicious, but came with a few layers of croutons (they were good, but it definitely took down the amount of soup in the mug!) My Cobb salad was fine, good blue cheese and bacon, a scoop of guacamole, but not my favorite lettuce. Sort of the spikey kind. I had the dressing on the side, and I thought it was fine. My husband didn't like it at all. Our friend enjoyed her Greek salad. She asked about the steak tips, and the server was not very enthusiastic saying they weren't marinated. She appreciated the heads up and got chicken instead. But my husband's hamburger was terrible!! It tasted so weird, and when we tried JUST the meat, I swear it was spoiled. Tasted sour and I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for an hour, it had a lot of stuff on it...guacamole, tomato, lettuce, cheese, bacon. The roll also felt a little stale. We did inform our server, and he was very apologetic. I'm just happy my husband didn't get sick from the few bites he had. The fries were good, but not hot. At least he had those too, and some of my salad! It still has great views and a very authentic interior. I'm very sad at this turn of events.

Really great views AND food here! I loved the lobster roll, which was packed with lobster and had a perfectly toasted delicious bun. The fries that came with it were so good, and the coleslaw was refreshing. My sister had the herb panko cod. It was buttery and delicious on a bed of mashed potatoes and spinach. The calamari here was also perfectly fried so we thoroughly enjoyed the food. The two glasses of wine we ordered were not great so we didn't finish them, but everything else was wonderful, including the service. The food came on a little slow, but was well worth the wait.

    Olive, our excellent server.

6 of us thought the name was fun (each couple has a dog) so decided to come here for breakfast before heading off to a boat ride. The restaurant is on Beach Street along with other Black Dog stores and we found good close parking. All 6 of us enjoyed our breakfasts. My wife and I split a Happy Heff egg breakfast along with a fresh fruit bowl and we both liked it. Others in our party also enjoyed their breakfasts. Olive was our server and she has a good sense of humor and made sure everything was okay, coming back to the table a couple times. We're only in town for a couple days but all of us felt both the meal, location and service was good

We stopped here for lunch while spending the day on Martha's Vineyard. While we wanted to eat in Edgartown, we ended up in Vineyard Haven, and this place was recommended. Apparently Black Dog is a thing here. It is very much a sea shanty kind of place, with a fireplace and lots of dark wood. We were greeted and seated quickly. Our server was great at accommodating our requests, for which I am grateful. We ordered: *Tunamelt with bacon *Grilled salmon BLT Everything was delicious. Hubby said the tuna was the best he has had. The fries were also really good--very crispy with the perfect amount of salt. If you happen to find yourself in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard, give this place a try!

The Firebird cocktail I ordered delighted the entire crowd, since it comes out in a Polynesian head and is aflame. Frankly, the presentation of the food was also spectacular, especially the swordfish club sandwich. I loved the oysters with kimchi paste (a new condiment for me and so good.) The pork belly. The lobster on little tacos. (We were there for 3 hours since the weather was wet and we were talking up our own storm.) My friend knows many good establishments on MV and 9 Craft certainly is. Cheers.

So we went to 9 Craft Kitchen for what we thought would be a higher-tier food experience for my wife's birthday. We do this almost every year we are here in MV. I originally booked at Atria (Edgertown) but canceled and booked here because we did Atria the last time we were here. From the moment we entered the establishment, the hostesses greeted us almost coldly, without many words. I explained that I initially booked the reservation for 3, but our son got sick at the last minute, so it would be just the two of us. Sometimes there are sensitivities around the party size, but the restaurant was completely empty. She sat us down in the back of the room, without much interaction. That's fine, but it goes against the warmth other restaurants show guests when they enter. Several minutes later (about 10) a waiter shows up with water, again, no words, and leaves. She comes back a few moments later with menus and returns a minute later with a question about the drinks we are going to order. The whole interaction has my wife lifting her eyebrow in a manner that I understood as, "That's weird." There was a coldness that was present, which at first we thought maybe was because the place was empty. It was 4 p.m., so right after the lunch crowd, but before the dinner rush. So we ordered drinks, and that interaction was fine; the drinks arrived with a bit more interaction and professionalism when she said, I hope you enjoy your drinks. Would you like to order appetizers and/or dinner? Ok, so maybe the in-between reservation was unusual for them. Ok, I get it. We ordered a few appetizers and 2 entrees. I went to the bathroom, and I could see the wait staff huddled together, laughing at something. When I came back to my seat, they were still huddled together, laughing at something. That didn't bother me, since they weren't busy, but it also explains the lack of interaction and the pause between menus and drinks being served. We didn't wait long for our appetizers. But that's where the issues really start to rear their heads. By the time she brought the appetizers, we had already finished our drinks. We were going to ask for another round, but she brought the appetizers so quickly that I guess she forgot to ask. We ate our appetizers, and there was about a 25-minute wait before she came to remove them and make room for our entrees. We thought she would interact with us then and ask how our appetizers were or whether we wanted another round of drinks. Silly me, she did neither. She removed the apps and came back within the next 2 minutes with our entrees. At this point, she asked if we needed anything else. I said no, and she left. After we ate our entrees, she came back and asked if we needed anything else. I said no, just the check. The whole experience was rushed, as if we were interrupting staff service or something. Bad service happens sometimes. All of us have had bad days in the office or at work. Somehow, the level of service and interaction here doesn't reflect the service on the island, which, at places like Atlantic Fish & Chop House, was outstanding and warm. Like they wanted us back. Same for Rockfish. Even places like Biscuits, which is always packed, remain warm and friendly. The service here was subpar. Even the hostess's interaction left us feeling like, hmmm. The food was solid, but I wouldn't call this place an upper-tier restaurant. There were certainly some racial undertones at play, but again, everyone has bad days at work. As we say, life by lifeing sometimes. But as we spread the word to our friends about our experience here, we have heard this isn't an isolated experience. And for that, we say, hmm, ok. We won't be back. There are just too many other higher-tier restaurants to eat at to experience this and feel like we should give it another go. I thought you all should know.

This is a cute causal setting. Upon arrival they informed of 10-20 minute wait if I opted for counter dining. I agreed and was pleasantly surprised with a table that opened up within 10 minutes. We ordered the peach pancake special, chicken and waffles, and the Cowboy Up frittata. Presentation of the food is A+ Yet... My husband took one of bite of his chicken and made a strange face. He said it tasted "off". By the time I received my frittata and pancakes and bit into them, nothing had any flavor. Pancakes taste like they flipped bland flour and eggs, frittata as though not one lick of seasoning hit the batch of eggs. I started surveying the person next me because I was truly surprised. She said she's been going there for 10 years and the food is usually good. She recommended I say something, so I asked our server if I could speak with manager. I explained why to her and she returned stating that they have discounted the food. Soon after the ?chef came over. Rapidly asked what's wrong with the food. As I tried to explain, she kept cutting me off with a rebuttal. She eventually walked away interrupting the conversation. She then walks back, not sure if conviction hit her. She apologized saying sorry if it felt like i wasnt listening. I said that's exactly what it felt it. I said I didn't understand why she would come ask me for feedback if you weren't going to listen. She said she had several orders to take care of, and, yet again, prematurely ended the conversation. I'm not sure what purpose she was trying to serve, but there's nothing like having a terrible dining experience to then top it off with disrespectful staff.
