What an absolute gem. My wife suggested this place to me. That is actually news in itself since she calls me, "Mr. Yelp". I'm usually the one who tells her about all of the new places, raves about some insanely delicious business lunch and forces her to try bibimbap when all she wants is a burger and a beer. I checked out the reviews for The Blind Rabbit and discovered this newly renovated warehouse called the Anaheim Packing District. Purposely hidden behind a "secret" entrance, there are no signs. Just a podium with a gal with a display screen asking if you have a reservation. The place is so small and so popular, reservations are almost mandatory. They limit you to 90 minutes of cocktails and dining, so no loitering. Get in, imbibe, injest and, kindly, get the f out. This speakeasy is so adorable, so unique, that you put up with the ridiculousness of the rules. Think of it like The Playground's private 2.0 next door. After a while, they opened it up to everyone when the first year of popularity started to die down. The best part, if you are still hungry or just want dessert later, simply leave and take 3 steps and you are in a gastronomic heaven and don't have to feel like you wasted your time, money and energy on finding a nice parking spot. The interior is a lot smaller than I imagined. Maybe 30 chairs, including the bar. Very dark and decorated like an old speakeasy, including the garb of the employees. The owner, Robert, was mixing the classic cocktails behind the bar and came out to greet us and give us some history of his place and the building. Service was very good. Our server was very helpful with the menu and made some great suggestions. Inventive cocktails, a great house beer selection and a very inventive but simple menu of food options. We kept it to heavy appetizers and figured we would actually have dinner later. The duck confit mac n cheese was spectacular. We had some kind of chorizo and mushroom dip that was equally good. The popularity of Brussels sprouts still amazes me and this place did them up proud. I'm almost bored with the awesomeness of these veggies now, but not quite. I'm not a bone marrow fan but the others in my group enjoyed it greatly. We ate so much we were only able to grab some gelato later. 90 minutes is enough time to do what we needed to do, but I can see hanging out longer in the future. I wish the air was not as stuffy as it was and we needed flashlights to read the menu but that just makes me feel old. We arrive to the Packing District and go directly to the 2nd floor from the main entrance. Instead of attempting to search for the hidden bar, we take the easy way out and ask an employee to direct us to The Blind Rabit. She points us to the area where there are mixed barrels of sake stacked against a wall with someone standing in the front holding a clipboard. The employee of the Blind Rabbit welcomes us and checks our name off the list, than proceeds to give us the simple bar rules: - There is a 90 minute limit - No standing at the bar - Photography is allowed, without the flash - No seat switching - Exit through the book case We follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole and our adventure begins. We make our way through the hidden doors and are escorted to our seats. The lighting is dim, the setting is intimate and the atmosphere, very relaxed. It was a lovely Friday when I happened to be in the area grabbing lunch with Bobby P. I actually wanted to come to the Packing House for dessert, but it probably wasn't too difficult to convince me to grab a drink instead and/or in addition. He was telling me about this hidden speakeasy and I was quite intrigued. The 'hidden' door is on the first floor of the Packing House. Walk towards the Sake Barrels and look for a little rabbit. Pull on that rabbit and a door will open!! *gasp* Love their theme! It was a quaint little bar with a dimly lit scholarly ambiance. I can see how this place would easily get packed towards the later hours. Shout out to our lovely and talented bartender Nikki!! She was the perfect amount of attentive and full of wonderful recommendations whenever we needed them. 1 CUCUMBER GIN SMASH ($12) - I asked for something refreshing and this definitely hits the spot. The essence of the Gin was very well masked. I enjoyed it so much I totally feel like THIS is what they should be serving at the spas instead of cucumber infused water. 1 BERRY PEACHY TEA ($12) - This drink has peach tea infused vodka as a base. Highly recommended if you are into super fruity drinks. 2 BOURBON MAPLE SMASH ($12/each) - Similar to a bourbon smash but maple is used instead of simple syrup. We raced and I won :) 1 DRUNK NIGHT IN THAILAND ($12) - This drink comes in a random sandwich plastic bag. It has scotch and sriracha in it and somehow it tastes like Mexican candy. I liked it. 1 PEAR BLOSSOM ($12) - Another fruity tasting drink with green pear tea infused vodka. The Blind Rabbit is probably one of the better bars I've been too. The ambiance is soothingly intimate, their drinks are innovated and our bartender Nikki is awesome!! I just feel like they are overpriced and I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much when it gets busy at night. And also it is quite inconvenient since you have to contact them at least 48hrs prior to your desired reservation time (hushhush@theblindrabbit.com) and wait to receive a confirmation sometime 24hrs prior to see if you are accepted. Hidden behind a wall of barrels in the middle of a packing house is where you will find the awesomeness that is the Blind Rabbit! I've been here a few times now and they never let you down I mean how could they this is totally a modern day speakeasy it's kept super dark and lit up with lights in Mason Jars which just provides a super mellow and kinda low key feeling atmosphere. Their bartender Robert is a super cool, knowledgable, and just all around nice guy. Everytime I've came back here he has remembered me and welcomed me back to the Rabbit. Their drink menu is all pretty exceptional it ranges from their delicious mixed drinks to some craft brews. Everything I've tried here has been really good. We will be frequenting this establishment as it's just super cool has great service and the food looks to be just as good as the drinks. The one dish i have had from here is their duck mac&cheese and it was just super flavorful and definitely will be something i will be ordering on a future visit. All in all this place rules and is a perfect fit to the Packing House which in it self is already a killer place to grab some food drinks or just to kick it at. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Came with reservations and got seated about 10 minutes later. The place is tiny but the vibes were killin it. We passed through the tiny bar and got seated at the corner, which was great since everyone else subsequent to that was brought around the other end and we had no interruptions. The food menu is limited which is convenient to order--but don't come here expecting to have a full on meal since in my opinion, you either have a drink and pick at food, or get your hands dirty and pick on food when you eat here. We got the street dogz and duck confit mac & cheese based off Lynette's wonderful recommendations. My friend thought the street dogz were "just hot dogs" but I was having a field day. The Japanese sausage was cooked just perfectly with crispy edges and the sauce and cheese were just right in proportions. It wasn't even that messy to eat, which was appreciated. It worked SO. WELL. with the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese wasn't too cheesy and heavy on the stomach, and though the duck crispy bits were a bit sparse, they added a good texture and taste to the first couple of bites. BUT. The drinks are what we came for, right? I got the oaxaca old fashion and I ended up not liking it. And what happens when customers don't like drinks here? THEY DRINK IT FOR YOU AND GIVE YOU ANOTHER. I asked Caleb to drink it since he's so friendly and not to mention, cute. He was a real trooper about it and he came back to finish the drink later on in the night, which I thought he had forgotten about. Awesome policy. I ended up picking the old man and the sea because I had tried my friend's and loved it. I loved mine just as much. I usually don't like cocktails because they're too sugary or too bitter but this one was just right--complex enough and the flavors really pull through. I would pick it over neat anyday. The Blind Rabbit was my second Speakeasy experience but first for the West Coast and what a wonderful experience it was. Making reservations via email was 'easy-peasy' and I received a response from Amanda who confirmed our party's reservation and time. Finding the place was easy after looking for clues on Yelp photos (thanks, Yelpie friends!). If you enter from the 2nd floor of the packing house, The Blind Rabbit is slightly to the right as you head down the stairs, in front of the sake barrels. I met Amanda and Sarah at the front. Another friend was meeting us and adding another guest was simple and Amanda accommodated our request. It is an intimate bar and we were seated near the piano and fireplace. It was perfect for our party of 5. I ordered a cocktail (Pear Blossom) and it was as good as drinking juice with the power of slow-acting poison, haha. They also had a Berry Peachy Tea, which I enjoyed a lot better. The guys in our group enjoyed some craft beers. The setting was dark and intimate and we stayed the full 90 minutes. And it is great to be away from the loud and crowded packing house above us. Now onto the food... The Duck Confit Mac N' Cheese was a perfect portion for our group to share since we came mostly for the drinks. They used cavatappi pasta which paired well with the weight of the confit (duck) and cheeses. The cheese wasn't ooey-gooey but still tasted of quality and went well with the garnish. We had two orders of the Bone Marrow because it was just so good. The fattiness from the marrow was delicious with the saltiness from the accompanying bread. Our server, Robert, was wonderful and knowledgeable and checked up on our group from time to time. Actually, everyone who worked there was very nice. So service here is definitely wonderful. Ever since I was introduced to the speakeasy known as the Blind Rabbit at a Yelp event, I was dying to come back for their Duck Confit Mac & Cheese. Since the place is tiny, they are reservations only. Previously, you could only email for reservations for a party of 6 or smaller. Now you can use Seat Me through the Yelp app in order to make reservations. It's similar to OpenTable and easier to use. I love being able to make reservations on the fly. My date and I met up with Vanessa H. for drinks and appetizers. We arrived and informed them that one of our party was running late but they were ok with it. We were given the choice to wait for her or go inside. We waited since the entrance is hidden from view. We ordered some craft cocktails along with the mac & cheese, Home Tots, bone marrow, and the peaches & cream dessert to share. Everything was superb! The Duck Confit Mac & Cheese was decadent and creamy without being soggy. I loved this; it was so good! I loved the spiral shaped pasta too. The Bone Marrow is served with pieces of crostini and as Vanessa H. put it, "meat butter." It was rich but it seemed sort of undercooked to me. The Home Tots were basically poutine with tater tots which made me smile. I loved the crunchy tots in contrast to the gravy and cheese. It was tasty and on the heavy side. The Peaches & Cream was a brown sugar roasted peach half served with vanilla ice cream and candied pecans. It was decadent and rich, but a great way to end our meal. Our drinks were gorgeous too. I had the watermelon cooler which was made with bourbon and it was quite refreshing. I don't recall my dining companions drinks but they were equally impressive and tasty. Everyone loved the food, drinks and ambiance. I'm so glad that they love this place as much as I do. I'm sorry if my photos don't do it justice because no flash photography is allowed inside the Blind Rabbit. It's explained to you before you enter and is also listed on the menu in fine print. As you can see, the lighting is dim inside and the ambiance evokes an era of prohibition. There's a jazz soundtrack playing as well which adds to the experience. I came here with one of my buddies when they first open and you had to email them in advanced for a reservation. That was quite a hassle but lately they started using the seat me reservation system that can be found on their website, yelp or facebook. Pretty easy now! We had a bunch of drinks and one of my favorites that I can remember is the Man and the Sea. It has bourbon, rum and some other stuff served in a smokey glass. Definitely a manly drink. I also like their Old Fashions, especially the Bacon Old Fashioned! Both times I went I got their bone marrow dish, pretty good. I've also tried the Summer Salad, which is an interesting sweet light salad with strawberries and candied walnut to top. This is a nice and refreshing choice for the ladies. Another really good idea is the Street Dogz. This mini slider sized bites have Japanese Pork Sausages! Can't go wrong with Japanese Pork Sausages ;) The fun doesn't stop there! Amazing drinks, food and service combine to create the perfect experience. While Speakeasies are gaining popularity, this is not my first but I felt that it accomplished the vibe. I couldn't figure out where the entrance door was. I only knew that the exit was through the bookcases. Pull on the rabbit to find the entrance door. During the afternoon it is first come first served and you don't need a password. But standing is not allowed. You can only be inside if there is a seat available for you. At night, there is someone in front of the door with a waiting list. It is recommended to make a reservation if you plan to eat dinner. To drink I ordered the Blind Rabbit Sour. All of the ingredients melded together nicely and I enjoyed the taste of it. Drinks are not cheap, so be prepared for that. I did feel a little buzz from just the one drink though. To eat I chose the Rabbit Pot Pie. The crust on top was perfectly flaky. The inside was very dense so the small size was perfect. I could detect a nice flavoring of pepper along with the veggies and large chunks or rabbit meat. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal but about half were still hungry after. Prices are on the higher side and portions aren't huge but the food is delicious. The husband and wife bartender were extremely nice and efficient. I was with a group of 10 and since we told her ahead of time, our waitress/bartender was able to split all of our checks. Even with the small speakeasy full, service was great and we were never lacking anything. A very cute and nice touch was the way they bring the bill to you. It is hidden inside old books. Make your reservations ahead of time and be punctual. There is a 90 minute time limit so be ready to rock and roll, although 90 minutes is plenty of time to enjoy the speakeasy's libations. Berry Peachy Tea -- Had to take it easy at this point because I had already had a Moscow Mule at Kettlebar (they have some rules here but it's pretty much Adult 101). I was in search of something on the "lighter" side with fruit and the Berry Peachy Tea jumped out at me. Peach tea infused with vodka, cane, lemon, lime, strawberries and soda. It is definitely a thirst-quenching drink. It wasn't a strong pour and you could taste all of the fruity flavors melding through. They also garnish the drink with berries just to remind you the drink is loaded with berries. The bar staff are pros. My girlfriend and I fully expected not to get a same-day seating here, but were encouraged to put our names on the waitlist. We did that at approximately 8:30-9pm, asked the hostess a few questions in a very pleasant way, and were told that we would be contacted at 9:30pm if we got off the waitlist. Around 9:25pm we came to the front desk to inquire about any progress. The hostess had disappeared and forgotten about us. There was no one there so we opened the door of the bar to look for assistance and found two chairs empty at the bar. The bartenders ushered us out immediately telling us "reservations only." We stepped out only to be greeted by a woman in normal clothing who rudely told us we shouldn't be entering that way. She didn't introduce herself and turned out to also be an employee. Ultimately, the hostess refused to seat us an hour and a half before closing. Kitchens normally close one hour before close. She could have seated us, but intentionally chose not to. This establishment prides itself more on exclusivity than being friendly to customers. A hidden place if you did not know about this place. You can totally walk by this place at the packing district without knowing it exist at all. The ambiance is great, the drinks are soft and the host sucked. We've been requested to be "on time" by their strict code, but when we got there, we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time to get seated. The host even argued with me that it was 17 minutes pass not 20... what kind of lame excuse is that. But, blind rabbit surely knows how to kick us out of our seat on time. At 90 minutes in, my friend just wanted one more drink while we all just got our 2nd drink... NOPE... can't do it... You can kick us out on time, but can't get us seated on time. Drink wise... well a lot of good cocktails drinks that are super sweet. I personally was expecting stiffer drinks. If you like your drinks on the stronger side, I would high recommend you to start with a old fashion. The old fashion is actually a pretty good drink (puzzle bar better), but I still wish its still stronger. Overall, I think blind rabbit needs know how to talk the talk and walk the walk, i.e. follow its own rule. The host at the front also needs to better at checking-in people rather than ignoring + taking 10 minutes (oh, sorry I rounded up, 8 minutes) to check-in each guest; even guest without reservation. We had reservation and the party in front of us doesn't, AND all I got was NOTHING but attitudes while checking in. I have another reservation in 2 weeks cause another group of my friends wanna give this "pretend to be" fancy place a try; however, I'm iffy on it. There are only 32 seats and there is a piano player too. No flash photography (use your long exposures). I had two cocktails a daiquiri and an island something (pretty design on top good drink too). Order the duck confit Mac and Cheese ( do not lick the bowl to get all the cheesy goodness your fork will work). We also had the short ribs with polenta fries. I have to say the short ribs were simply amazing and flavorful! And the polenta fries compliment them so well. Must try! This is for an overall review of this place as I've been here once but before that, I came here on the 2nd or 3rd week that this place has opened up. Long story short, came on a Friday night and got in line at 10:30pm. Waited till about 11:30pm and still didn't get in. The packing house itself closes around 10:30pm so of course everyone is going to be at the bar and not leave. As we waited hoping to get in, the owner was nice enough to get us water (group of 5 people). We also had great entertainment by Marcuz as well. He is a very sweet guy and will make waiting in line fun :) so first visit was a bust! 2nd visit: got in line around 8:00pm and there was a waiting list on Marcuz's list! He was so awesome to have remembered me from the previous week that we had to wait roughly 8 mins! Thanks cutie!! We were seated in chairs that were my facing each other but thanks to the nice girls at the bar, they switched seats so that the 4 of is could sit together! My friend and I both shared the duck confit Mac and cheese! Pretty good!!!! I also ordered the pear blossom drink and by far, one of the best drinks I've had! Love the taste of tea with a kick of alcohol! Very REFRESHING!! Fun, cute little speak-easy. But a little overpriced IMO. Somehow two small drinks, a burger, and a side of brussels sprouts came out to $75! Not worth it. The drink menu, gotta say, is impressive. I ended up having the topless hula girl and it was a very sweet and fruity cocktail...right up my alley so I was happy. My husband enjoyed his bacon whiskey...definitely a drink for men. I did have a small taste that was enough to tell me it was too strong for me, but that is usually a good thing for other people. The ambience is impressive, they definitely paid attention to details. The Blind Rabbit is such a great concept and executed very well. Its a good place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. The space is small but there is ample seating (bar seating, table seating and a couple of nice chairs on the side). They also only allow a certain number of people into the speakeasy so it never gets to crowded or loud. COFFEE & MEZCAL (~$12) If you enjoy coffee, this is the drink for you. I ordered it based on the recommendation of the bar tender and it was a great choice. You can definitely taste the coffee and the tequila. Highly recommend. I was here, yet again tonight. Out celebrating with some good friends. I always ask the bartender what they recommend...and they never fail! Everything they serve is just amazing! If you don't like it, send it back they say. This has never happened. I have now tried five of their drinks. One of which is an experiment drink and is not yet on the menu. I absolutely love love love this little hidden gem in the Packing District. The service here is AMAZING. Came one time and it was empty, the bartender was extremely helpful and nice. Watched the girls behind the counter infuse the alcohol with tea. Also, watching the bartender chip away at the ice block is great entertainment. The second time, there was an extremely long wait, but my friend and I had lots to do in the meantime. Guy at the door was great and let us in once a table opened up, even if there were a few names written before us. Our bartender told us the best seats in the house, made us feel comfortable, and even went outside to ask valet when they closed (valet comes in and gives you your keys if it's after 10:30, awesome!). DRINKS: Kickin' Mule is my FAVORITE. Especially if you like moscow mules in general... but this one has TEQUILA in it. Sweet, limey, gingery, strong. How I like my mules. Coffee & Mezcal - STRONG coffee flavor! Definitely a good drink for dark coffee lovers and lovers of a drink that can put you under. Bacon Old Fashioned - a great twist on an original. The bartenders make drinks that you can sip on AND goes down extremely smooth. Also tried the dark holiday, one of the teas (I can't recall), and the blind rabbit sour, and the early to ryes. All very good, strong, solid drinks. The top three were just my favorites. FOOD: Duck confit mac & cheese (not on their menu anymore) was the perfect amount of cheese and duck pieces, mmm. Pork two ways (also not on their menu anymore) - the FRIED PIGS EARS w/ the fig sauce IS A MUST GET if this is ever back on the menu. Perfect crunchy delicious snack with the drinks. The pork belly is also melt in your mouth! This was a perfect dish. Interior decor really reflects the inhibition/speakeasy time period. Cute, small. Only seats about two dozen or more. Come early, come often, or be prepared for a wait. This place are worth the drinks (~$12) and food (~$8-17). RECOMMENDED for a cool experience. read more

With much anticipation, I returned to the Blind Rabbit since Covid and quite frankly was disappointed. Having made reservations, I assumed that we were going to be seated at a table. When we were directed to cramped bar seating, I asked why I was being seated at the bar and was informed that I didn't "request" a table. I noticed that there were empty tables and after asking, was directed to an open table. One of the reasons that I went was the craft cocktails only to find out that they were pretty much eliminated, with a few minor exceptions. Sadly, the menu was disappointing as well, the crab cakes were bland, the bone marrow lacking and there was a hamburger option. I asked about the owner, who I met pre-covid and was informed that he was no longer associated with the restaurant. To top everything off, we were basically told that our time was up as we had been there for our 90 minutes, which I thought was funny, in that we had just paid out bill. Wow. I have been to Anaheim Packing District countless times and I never heard/seen this place until recently. Our friend talked about this place and I was just clueless or what/where it was. This is a really cool/hidden/secret spot. You will never find the entrance at first glance. There is not sign or real door. It is located at the bottom floor right next to the Shabu/Ramen place. The entrance is where the sake barrels are. There is this tiny stone rabbit in the middle of the sake barrels and you just pull it and BAM - its like you walked in into a completely different place. The atmosphere is dark and casual - it is a speakeasy. They offer drinks and food - mostly bites. I order the 12 Mile Limit and it was surprisingly strong. My GF and her friends ordered the Berry Peach Tea which tasted like it had no booze. The drinks took a little while to come out but that fine since the place is pretty small and there are not too many workers. This is definitely a pretty cool and chill spot. Next time, I will try the food. Enter through the sake barrels, exit through the bookcase. No flash photography! I know why they call it the Blind Rabbit - when we left I could barely open my eyes. Ambiance is very special. Cool, hidden away place. Small and intimate. Staff was wonderful. Friendly, almost chatty, informative and professional. The food was very good, but the specialty cocktails whipped up by the bartender were really something memorable. We had a great time. My favorite speakeasy bar! I would happily drive 5 hours just to relax in this time traveling gem! It is a smaller bar. Less noisy than other speakeasy bar i have been too. I always go there before the evening crowds. Besides the dress code is less strict at earlier hours. My regular go to drink Eagles Fist! Served with a piece of bacon! Outstanding not overwhelming drink. But i also have a sweet tooth and discovering Salty Kisses was the highlight! A mix of sweet and salty makes the perfect balance... I have had some of their foods mac and cheese is alright. Tater tots is a good snack for two people! I find that one serving is a lot for one person! They had excellent different crème brûlée but haven't seen them on the menu for a while. I always introduce new people here for a magic relaxing moment! read more
