I ordered takeout here about a month ago in the evening. Ordered 2 Hamburgers, beef brisket sandwich, mac & cheese and a cornbread. First off, very expensive. So you expect to be amazed at the food right? The food was anything but amazing. I say this in all honesty. The mac & cheese was tasteless, the cornbread did not taste like cornbread and the beef brisket had no flavor other than the barbecue sauce that was drizzled on the sandwich. The hamburgers we're okay, nothing like you might anticipate. So we we're not impressed. I guess we just thought it would be a wonderful place with delicious food. Easily some of the best barbecue anywhere. The ribs were served dry (not slathered in sweet barbecue sauce) and fell perfectly off the bone. The fried chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Fresh slaw, tasty beans and spicy sauce on the side. I could eat here every day. read more

So excited about this new addition in Wellfleet. We were in town for the 4th and stopped by to try the fried chicken, smoked wings, mac n cheese and pulled pork. It's hard to pick a favorite but the smoked wings were the highlight. The food was so delicious that we came back the next day! The drinks did not disappoint either. The owners were very friendly and attentive and made their way around to check in on patrons which is always great to see. Overall, a fun atmosphere with delicious food and an extensive beer/wine list. Definitely check this place out if you're in Wellfleet! read more

Pros: It's passable BBQ, mostly. Its BBQ, (and in the Cape no less!) Sauces are decent Easy to get to, ample parking Lots of free music nights. Cons: It's just "passable" bbq It's a somewhat limited menu It's pricy especially given the small-seeming portion sizes Confusing pricing: the "combo" gives two sides, but for some items, it's cheaper just to get the meat, and two sides separately, not in the combo? Overall: can't really recommend, but what else do you expect from BBQ on the Cape (exception being the old Marconi's, sorry, trying not to compare, but they were leagues better than this place) FULL(ER) REVIEW We don't want to compare this to the previous bbq place in this location... although we did frequent there a lot. This review is solely based on this "new" experience. We went in mid week and the place had maybe two to three cars in the parking lot. The restaurant (at least the non bar side) had only two or three other tables occupied as it was early in the evening. Our food was delayed quite a bit, but, we understand this. It's the cape. It's July. And it's a bbq place. That said, none of our foods were terribly great. Ribs - good taste and seemed to be cooked as it should be. That said, the pepper crust is something to be aware of. Lots of WHOLE peppercorns all OVER this thing. Mac and cheese was okay, but, okay like the frozen kind is. Not bad. Not excellent. Passable, barely. The cole slaw was also lacking in the spice department. A little sugar would help kick it up a notch. The "pulled chicken", well, wasn't pulled as you'd expect. Was more like pulled off a wing type strips. Decent flavor. Just, odd. Pulled pork was passable. The BBQ sauces were all just fine. Nothing spectacular but definitely tasty. Pretty thick sauces though. Our waitress was excellent, she did seem new, but again to be expected. Now the real downside. We all know Cape restaurants can be pricy. And we all know BBQ can be pricey. But, if you're gonna be THIS pricy (this place isn't cheap for the portion size), at least be high quality smaller portions or ok quality with large portion sizes. Sadly, here it's pricy, small, and "passable" BBQ. Also, the prices on the sides? If what I got was a side of Mac and cheese, $6? $6 for cornbread - we didn't order it just because of this - for that price - do we get a whole loaf? (It didn't say) The menu is decently sized, but also quite limited and it lacks lots of the "BBQ standards" like burnt ends, or even brisket (except for the brisket burgers, I guess?). Overall, it is what it is. Even though our experience wasn't great, we honestly just didn't care enough at all to even bring it up to the management / local staff. We visited the previous restaurant/ownership last year and it was amazing! This year it was good but not as good. The fried chicken was juicy but not as flavorful. The ribs were good! The beans have a unique flavor so those that like will really like. Our party was 75/25 on not caring for. The cornbread is ok, better once put butter that comes with it on. The coleslaw was good! The Mac and cheese was good when got creamy parts but most of it had too much breading. Although we didn't eat there the atmosphere was really trendy and fun! Good beer selection! Had dinner tonight at The Block and Tackle, food was amazing! Chicken wings were hands down the best chicken wings I've ever had, and I have had many! My boyfriend got the 2 meat combo, $22 and it was a great value! The chicken is so smoky and tender and the ribs fall off the bone! BBQ sauces are amazing but with how flavorful the meat is, you don't need them! Pickles by far the best side! We will be back as much as possible for sure! So we jumped on the highway after our jam session in S. Dennis and flew to The Block & Tackle. New owners, new name. And boy were we happy we came. I was driving past every day and you can smell the smoking meats being prepared for the trove of customers at the end of the week! We met the owners and they were delightful people. Great BBQ! Outdoor Beer tap was also really cool! Wish they offered something like that around me here in NJ. Had the Pulled Pork and Ribs. Pulled pork was nice and tender but I like my pulled pork a little saucier. The ribs were fall of the bone deliciousness! Wish I got a double order instead! Mash and gravy was the best side. The beans were good for what they were but I like mine a tad bit sweeter with a little more pork in them. Cole slaw needed work also as many people mentioned in the reviews below but my mom really enjoyed the potato salad. Sauce on the side (Lt. something) was very tasty! Walk up front of the location and the first thing you smell is the BBQ grill. It is smoking and making the BBQ you expect. Then walk inside and get yourself ready for the meal. The variety is basic on this. It is a BBQ with a good taste and flavor. Everything is made correctly. We started with a mix of Burnt Ends, BBQ Pork, Short-Ribs, Chicken, and more. It is traditional BBQ and it is here. There are also side orders such as fries, coleslaw, beans (need to have those), corn bread, mac & cheese. Then there is the type of sauce you want to dip in. From sweet to medium to hot and spicy. It is all here. Good old BBQ when you want it. Block & Tackle opened last year and have been growing. The staff is a good team. There is enough to drink. The prices are right for the meal you will get. Just ask what you might want and the will prepare it for you. This is a good place to visit when you want something different. read more

We used to go to the same place when it was Maurice's (I think). We ordered 20 piece fried chicken here recently for about 62$ with 4 sides. The recipes are definitely different for this new owner. I was very happy with the service. I am giving 4 stars and not 5 because I wasn't exactly sold on the chicken and cornbread. Quality was good. To start, we walked in to live music being blasted at 110 Decibels which is an unsafe level of hearing. After waiting 10 mins to be seated we decided that screaming to our waiter and not being able to hear ourselves think was not enjoyable. We ended up ordering at our table and getting the food to go, meanwhile we waited outside for it to be cooked. The pulled pork was melt in your mouth, and had good taste but was extremely salty. We stopped here for dinner after a ride on the nearby rail trail and we're so glad we did! This restaurant opened in May 2020 (during a global pandemic) and they have clearly made the best of it! All dining is outside (for now) on picnic tables in their beer garden and adjacent parking lot. The staff was incredibly friendly (and masked up) and the food was some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time! The most important thing, though: these guys clearly went out of their way to create an atmosphere that feels normal during a very unsettling time. I can't tell you how grateful we were to have a piece of that back. Definitely stop here next time you're in Wellfleet! They're right down the street from the drive-in, too. We bumped into this place this past summer. We stopped in, this past Sat on the way to Truro. We got some ribs, fried chicken and pulled pork to go. All of it was amazing! This is our first time getting the fried chicken, and it was great! BBQ is not big on the Cape, so, this place is a nice little find. Great service and food! We will be back soon. We got a couple of different things, takeout style due to COVID. We did two combo platters, various sides, and the chicken sandwich. I ordered from here early July & again on Sat 10/17. Their food is spectacular, and I'm not a big barbq person, but love good ingredients and well made food. My weak spot is fried chicken, and theirs is one of the best- crispy outside and juicy inside. Their ribs are equally great, although i am not a fan of the sauces, which is fine because they are flavorable without. And the 3rd thing i have purchased is their smoked chicken - just wow. But what will keep me coming back as long as they stay open this winter, are the sides. Their cornbread "cake" and butter, and this last time -- the chicken chili and turkey rice soup almost stole the show from the ribs & chix. I hope they can offer quarts-to-go. Tasty food, fair prices, and efficient takeout service during this pandemic era. My only disappointment was that the BBQ meats were all varieties of pork (aside from the smoked chicken), so my Jewish husband was relegated to a burger (which he thoroughly enjoyed).
