On their front window, The Boardwalk Cafe boost, "Best Breakfast in Town". Is it a gourmet breakfast? No. It is a down-home, diner, greasy-spoon, truck stop breakfast. The portions are huge and full of home-style flavor. Neither of us could clean our plates and both of us are hearty eaters. I was raised on a farm, so when I see Biscuits & Gravy on a breakfast menu it is a must have. Lucky for me, TBC offered a half order that I could order and share with my dining partner. Being the Siskel & Ebert for Biscuits & Gravy, we both gave our order this morning, 2 thumbs up. Flaky biscuit with a thick creamy milk gravy, is always a winner. Each of us ordered one of their Country Skillet Breakfasts. I went with the hometown named skillet, Arch and my DP went with the Denver. Both start off with a hefty serving of hash browns, their menu calls them home fries. The Denver has grilled ham, the Arch has sausage, tomatoes and jalapeños. Both had onions, peppers, Monterrey Jack and Cheddar cheeses. The skillets are then topped with two eggs, fixed your way. Both skillets were huge, so huge that we each took half of our skillets home to make into omelets the next morning. The Boardwalk Cafe is now going to be in my breakfast out rotation. It's a good, cheap breakfast. I want to go back and try one of their burgers for lunch. If they do a good diner breakfast, I can only imagine what they do to a burger. read more

The boardwalk is a great breakfast spot, one of our absolute go-tos in St. LOUIS. Little hole-in-the-wall kind of place with great omelette, pancakes, French toast, and more. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the GRAVY. No self respecting breakfast joint should be using packaged gravy mix, and The Boardwalks is especially bland and jelly-like. It's so easy to make good, homemade gravy that any restaurant should be embarrassed to use packaged stuff. I had the biscuits and gravy this morning and they were terrible. So avoid the gravy, seriously everything else is good! read more

First visit...pretty average regarding food quality. The gyro was tasty but a bit greasy...I can tell the meat didn't come from a fresh roasted lamb...rare to find that anywhere except Greek restaurants. Fries were excellent. Ambiance was good but could be cleaner. There were utensils and used napkins under the table that the teenage busboy ignored. In general, they need help improving the place. Shorten the menu by 25%, do a deep cleaning (including doors and windows) and you'll have something a lot better. Good chance they would go under if there was competition nearby. read more

Showed up very hungry an hour prior to their closing yesterday afternoon. The staff was very accommodating and provided a great meal to my brother and I. The boardwalk special three egg omelet was EXCEPTIONAL. I added a side of bacon and wheat toast. Breakfast is hard for places to mess up. The Boardwalk Cafe has it going on though. 1. Great service 2. Personable setting and small location. 3. All condiments are placed on the table within a hands reach. 4. All the menu items tasted like they were fresh and made with love for their restaurant. We even overheard a customer call in a to go order 15 minutes prior to their closing time. The lady working the phone took the order when it's very easy to say, "sorry we close in 15 minutes go to Waffle House...." Parking might be a challenge during busy hours but it was easy to find for us. I always eat at local places when I travel and definitely recommend you visit The Boardwalk Cafe! read more

A friend and I were looking for a nice little diner/cafe to meet for breakfast on Sundays. We came across this place. We first tried the establishment last week and again this week. I was reserving my review until I had another opportunity to try it out. Just like the first time, we enjoyed a decent breakfast (sausage and cheddar omelette with hash browns and wheat toast). The omelette was "okay" but the hash browns are fantastic. The toast was HARD which really was disappointing. Perhaps they make toast in advance which may be more efficient but it really takes the quality down. Meh. The coffee is STRONG. It really opened the eyes in surprise when I took the first sip. Today, again on our second visit, the cup i began to drink water out of appeared to be dirty/not clean as the outside was all sticky and had "ick" all over it. Asked for a new cup. We had the same waitress both times and she was not that friendly. Wouldn't hurt to smile and at least pretend like you want to be at work. In the end, definitely a no-frills establishment. For me, it's all about service. Great customer service can overcome pretty much any defect in an experience. But this does appear to be lacking here. Great prices!!! There was a time in high school when you didn't know from week to week what type of place was going to be in this establishment. I am not kidding. In my four years at Nerinx Hall, this place must have gone through at least 6 different owners...all unsuccessful. However, The Boardwalk Cafe seems to have found a nice little home here in Old Orchard, and I can actually see why it has been the place that finally found success in this cursed location. The menu isn't exciting, the ambiance isn't really anything special, and the place is really quite ordinary. That said, it's completely decent quality, the staff is friendly and the service is good. Though the menu isn't exciting, it's still good. Salads and sandwiches dominate, but I have to say the brunch is my favorite. Also, it's not as packed as many of the places in Webster tend to get, which is an incredibly nice touch when you are looking for a place to grab lunch or just sit with your coffee and read. read more

We stayed over night in St.Louis on our way to a wedding in Arkansas and my bf found this place because it was supposed to be one of the "best breakfast spots in St.Louis". If this place was open in Chicago, I don't think it would even stand a chance surviving. It was a nice Friday morning and we decided to sit outside on their outdoor patio. We both ordered the Denver skillet, I got mine with swiss instead of the original cheese it was offered with. This place was reasonably priced and we were surprised with how quickly the food came out. So my skillet came out and the swiss cheese wasn't even melted, which is okay. But both of our skillets were all veggies and no hash browns, and the little bit of hash browns we had were burnt to a crisp. It seemed like they ran out of hash browns and scrapped whatever they could onto our plates. This is one place I will never come back to. read more

It's real good and they have a variety of choices among toppings. The meet is skeet. Like this thing has no girth!! I love a gyro that is heaping in meat to where I can barely wrap my tiny little hands around it. This one is definitely not it, but, it's still pretty good. The fries suck. That's all you need to know about that. Oftentimes I get an omelet. This place has Awesome Omelettes!!! If your unsure of what to get you can't go wrong. Big dose of fluffy delicious omega-3-enriched-pasture-raised-locally-farmed-cage-free-free-range-chicken-eggs. Loaded with tons of delicious fresh veggies and served with a heaping portion of hash browns. The omelette here is legit. Overall, I give The Boardwalk Cafe FIVE STARS. Lots of 4 top booths, looks and smells like an old time diner. Really solid menu with standard diner fare. Omelets, skillets, pancakes eggs, huge portions and really fair or low prices. We grabbed the last booth on a weekday at 8am really good sign and when we left at 9am they were on a wait for a table. Eventhough they were full the service was great and attentive. This place is probably better than Olivette diner, one of my other favorite breakfast places. This isnt some hip creative dive like Rooster, but they deliver standard breakfast fare in a superior fashion. read more

the advertisement on the window promises "the best breakfast in town"! i don't totally disagree; although I would revise to say "ONE of the best breakfasts in town"! I was looking forward to the Mediterranean skillet that I ordered, but instead received the Webster - the server was totally apologetic. I assured her it wasn't that big of a deal The main difference is that the meat in the Med was gyro beef, in the Webster it's gyro chicken, along with a couple of extra ingredients. I would probably order the Webster again - minus the jalapeño peppers - not necessary in an egg dish in my opinion. the place has the typical diner feel: very noisy, lots of chatter coming from the open kitchen area. but it was clean, the prices are very reasonable and the coffee was steaming hot. Braved breakfast with the three lil'uns by myself this morning and wanted to do something different than the IHOP routine. The four of us were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy, but we could all still hear each other and talk on a normal level. I ordered the wrong thing. I wanted pancakes but mistakenly ordered French Toast via the Farmer (I meant to order the country boy). Anyway, the server would have swapped it out and nearly insisted, but it was obvious that there would be plenty of pancake left over on 2's plate for me to share. The kids plates had two or three pieces of bacon and a large Mickey shaped pancake for $4 plus the cost of a drink. My Farmer plate was under $6 I think plus drink and I ordered a side of ham because I'm a disgusting glutton. the pancake was good, as were the sides. I had iced tea so can't vouch for the coffee. Tea was good to though. The service was very friendly and prompt. I will definitely go back again. As others have said, I wouldn't call it great based on my one meal, but it was very good. read more

The cafe was crowded when we arrived, which is always a good sign. Service was prompt. The half dozen or so waiters are all buzzing around and help each other. I drink soda with breakfast and they kept the refills coming. The food was just average. We tried french toast, bacon & eggs, and the gyro sandwich. Nothing we had I couldn't have made myself. I have been here several times because my husband thinks this place is great...his restaurant standards are a bit below mine. It's New Year's Day, the other place we wanted to go was closed so I agreed. However, I meant it this time when I told him I will never set foot in that restaurant again. I've generally found this place to be quite dirty. In past visits I have found the bathroom to be in serious need of attention. I've had to use many gas station bathrooms in rural southern Missouri and those bathrooms were usually tidier and less off-putting than Boardwalk Cafe's restroom. The bowl on our table holding the butter I used for my pancake was filthy. Those should be ran through the dishwasher daily. I could also smell the dish room. I spent 6 years working in restaurants during high school and college so I know that smell and it should not be strong enough for patrons to smell while dining. My breakfast came out incorrectly the first time and this was quickly rectified. My pancake was delicious but when they brought my omelette back out I found out they use Italian sausage and not breakfast sausage. I confirmed with with our server that I had not missed something on the menu. I made sure the server knew I was not pleased because I don't like giving 1-Star reviews without providing some feedback directly to the establishment. Also, it appears other reviewers have provided feedback about the cleanliness so they have had the opportunity to correct this many times over the years I've been dragged here by my husband. Last thing, if you still decide this is a restaurant you wish to patronize its best to wait for warmer weather. Every time the front door opens a blast of arctic air blows in. It's especially bad when they are busy and someone, without fail, will hold the freaking door open and just stand there. read more

They also come through constantly to check if you need more coffee. The best part is the prices; I usually eat for $10 or so plus tip, a far cry from a lot of the "fancy" brunch places in the area. It's pretty popular with the locals and gets busy by 9 or so on the weekends especially in the winter when the outdoor seating is closed. So as long as you're not expecting avocado toast and mimosas or whatever the buzzword for expensive weekend morning food is, this place does the job for a reasonable amount of money. read more

The irony here is that one of the store windows has "Best Breakfast in Town" handpainted on it. Sunday 4/9/17 after 1pm. It's quite busy still and the place looks quite dirty but I had been there years ago and enjoyed it and we cut them a little slack thinking they probably hadn't gotten around to cleaning because they were so busy all day. I ordered the Mediterranean Skillet (hashbrowns, gyro meat, onions, feta, and 2 scrambled eggs) with wheat toast and I asked that the hash browns be extra crispy. My boyfriend ordered orange juice, a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, one scrambled egg, and a side of sausage links. Two other tables sit down right next to us and order shortly after. After 20-30 minutes of sitting the four top behind us is delivered the wrong food and it is figured out that their waitress (ours as well) accidentally deleted their order and everyone is so sorry but the food will be right out. The two tables next to us that sat down and ordered after us both got their food. One is completely finished and out the door and we still haven't seen food. The whole time we have a direct view of the kitchen and heat window and they are clearly having issues keeping up. Finally our food comes. Mine is like bathed in grease, the requested "extra crispy" hash browns are like raw, and I never did see my wheat toast. I ate about 30% and couldn't press on. My boyfriend ate most of his and said it was super mediocre. It was never clear whether our delay was attributed to the same waitress deleting our order or the kitchen but it didn't matter. This is a little dive restaurant in a strip mall. Great location, but isn't being used to it's fullest potential. Overall, the place is WELL worn & is pretty dirty. Floors were greasy, menus had sticky stuff (syrup maybe?) on them. But the condiment containers were full & the staff made sure you had rolled silverware. Male server was nice & pretty on it. Really friendly, seemed happy to help people. Food was pretty good, came out super quickly. Nice portions for a really good price. That kitchen is on it, or skipping what should be necessary "clean as you go" theories. Bathroom was NASTY! I decided to forgo using it as the toilet hadn't been cleaned in a really long time. I guess I don't understand the hype about this place. The one good thing I note is that it is cheap! Like really cheap. But food is just ok. Coffee is ok. The waiting area... oh wait there really isn't a waiting area. So if you get sat right at the front you can enjoy your meal with all the strangers just waiting for their table and people trying to get around other people to write their name on the list that hangs on the wall. Due to the limited space during winter it sucks to wait. And once again it sucks if you are one of the poor people forced to sit at the tables up front near the door. We came in on Sunday after 11 AM for some breakfast based on the pictures we saw from Yelp. Street parking is available on one side of the strip mall where this place is located next to a Subway and a Starbucks. The place was not too crowded at this time but it was still pretty busy for the amount of people they had working. This place reminds me of your classic breakfast diner with standard fare. This place is a little more than standard though which is why in its category Im giving it 4 stars! They have some really great choices for omlettes and skillets and something I have not encountered before - you can turn any omlette into a quesadilla! That is not your run of the mill breakfast diner option. It was without a doubt the biggest quesadilla I've ever had in my life and so delicious. If you like big portions you are going to love this place. I overheard 3 different tables go on and on about the enormous size of their plates, pretty funny. I had the Greek omlette turned quesadilla which was served with salsa and sour cream as well as hash browns. My S/O got the vegetarian omlette. Weighing in at 145 lbs. He managed to eat the entire thing, all the hash browns and 2 slices of toast. His 16 hear old daughter ordered the chicken fingers and was brought the kids menu plate which she did not even eat all of before getting full. French fries were really good!! read more
