It was my first time going to The Boardwok Restaurant its been here for years, my brother has gone once and I just had the time to come over here this time. The inside is nice cozy and tons of tables. They have a bar as well they do things different here with their food since the owner i guess like to fish is what I read and so fresh fish and stuff like that. The food I got was hot and sour soup. It is different the other chinese restaurants that I go to usually never put green beans in it but it is spicy and sour which is pretty good. I also got the combo stir fry lo mein with pork, chicken and shrimp. Although the shrimp maybe fresh it has a taste that isn't fresh. The noodles were great although i don't like the way they package my food. I don't like soggy spring rolls when you put it in the lo mein. Just put it in where you put the dry things in a separate bag like you did for the soup The workers at the bar waitresses are nice and friendly. I only saw and elderly men sitting an eating the booth when I walked in. I think their meal was pretty quick since i walked in at 1130am when it was just opened. the bill came to 31.00 something so charged to debit card no tip since it was take out, but when i waked up at 7am this morning there was an updated charged so total with tip they added onto was 36.20...I would use my cash next time when I come back. OKAY I am hesitant writing a review on The Boardwok Restaurant. It is one of my FAVORITES and I am afraid if people find out how great they are. It will get to busy and then I will be super sad if I cannot easily walk in a get a table. It is such a wonderful small restaurant. Even the bathrooms are cute. The owner is super awesome. He loves to fish and loves FRESH!!!!! Oh baby so many favorites when the food is fresh. The green beans, the asparagus, the broccoli, I could go on and on. OK so when you walk in the staff are ALWAYS awesome. You can ask what is in season or fresh. They have a chalk board that has the specials. If you follow them on Facebook they will let you know when the soft shell crabs are in. And you can also see when the other wonderful fresh bean, asparagus and all that come in. We have ordered everything and have LOVED everything on the menu. My advice if it is your first time. Order Kev's Favorite Lo Mein. And if you go when they serve the She Crab SOUP. Our first visit to the Boardwok Restaurant was more than a year ago. The restaurant was dark and there were no customers. We were new to the area and very disappointed in our meals. A year later, a friend invited us and to our surprise it was a complete turnaround. The restaurant was bright and open, full of happy customers. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing: big portions, fresh ingredients with attention to the little things like using low sodium soy sauce as requested. My wife ordered pork lo mein with a side of chicken teriyaki. The dish came with an abundance of perfectly seasoned pork. The noodles and sauce were not like the usual greasy stuff you get in most Chinese restaurants; The sauce was light and very tasty. The chicken teriyaki side was tender with a nice sweetness and was a perfect compliment to the sauce of the lo mein. I ordered Kev's stir-fried rice noodles with pork and shrimp. The portion was on the large side and again the sauce was light and very tasty. On a whim, my family and I ordered for pickup through Yelp (which then uses grub hub) from this restaurant. Our family friend swore by this place and the food. Ordering on Yelp was easy enough- especially since when I tried the old school traditional phone order- which kept giving me a busy signal. I placed the order quickly online (Yelp- the restaurant doesn't offer online ordering) and was given an estimate of how long until the food was ready for pick up. The order was completed and ready within 35 minutes. The pick up was the kicker. The lady at the register looked at me as if she had no clue what I was talking about when I said I was there to pick up an online order. Another server walked by and said "oh we don't do Yelp. But we have a grub hub order" and she pointed to a shelf with bags on it. I assumed that it was going to be brought to me, I assumed wrong. The food was so/so. My order was missing 1/2 of the veggie fried rice (I had an order of $125 worth of food). Everything was over salted. The spring rolls were soggy. The problem was the general tso chicken. Sauce was a little off, bland and watery, the fried rice that came with it was bad! Tasted burnt, like someone accidentally burnt the rice while they were cooking it then tried to salvage it by scraping the rice pot but the burnt flavor was already in the rice. Teriyaki chicken skewer was super salty. Price was a little high also. She was ready to offer any suggestions and was knowledgable about their specials for the week. I went with the Singapore noodles and they were delicious. I was here during the restaurant week in 2013. I came back again for this week's restaurant week again for 2014. When you come in, it has a bit of a beach theme inside. Overall, it's a very casual place, and even a year later, I would still consider this place a hidden gem. Tonight, I came in for dinner during restaurant week. I chose from the three course menu. They were very good about taking care of me with my mushroom allergy. They went as far as to call the person who makes the spring rolls to verify it did not have mushrooms in it. For the appetizer, I had the vegetable spring rolls, after verifying there were no mushrooms as noted above. All of the egg rolls are made fresh daily at the restaurant, and you could tell the freshness in the taste of them. Also, the spring rolls were not greasy at all. For dinner, I had the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp were shaped in fantails. The food came out very hot, which is good. You could see right away at how fresh it was. I started with having some of the crab meat. The crab meat was really good, and you could tell there were no fillers in it as well. The shrimp, just like the crab meat, were hot and fresh. It was cooked perfectly and was very easy to get off the tail. The entree also comes with white rice and green beans. I'm not crazy about green beans in general. Next time I would just ask to switch for steamed broccoli instead. Time for dessert. I had the Kahlua cake. From where I was sitting, I could see them getting the cake together. The cake was a huge size and really could have been enough for two people. Once the cake was prepped in the back, I saw the server go to the bar area and put the Kahlua on the cake, as well as some on the side to dip in. This cake was delicious and would definitely do that again. If you come during the restaurant week and plan to do the three course, be sure to come hungry because you get a lot of food. I apologize for taking 24 hours to post my review... my niece and I had dinner yesterday and had the kindest and most attentive service I've had in a restaurant in a long time. We ordered appetizers and an entrée each, and the timing of the food was perfectly spaced. Our server was exceptional, regularly checking on our drinks and food. I can't say enough about the deliciousness and quality of our dinners. My niece had shrimp lo Mein and I had Kev's rice noodles with roast pork. We could tell our dinners were made fresh and by a chef that has passion for cooking. Although their homemade desserts come highly recommended(S'mores one especially), sadly, we were too full to indulge...but we will try to do better next time.
