During covid there have been some issues with them that I've looked over .... over cooked shrimp ... stingyness with limes (1 lime for an order of king crab legs and 1lb of shrimp), long wait times to place orders... just a few. I was annoyed king crab legs jumped from $34.99 to 44.99 during a pandemic when eating out was a treat but I said hey that's okay I'm supporting a local business and times were tough. But what really got me this time and I had to comment was the wax paper. The freaking wax paper!!! This location has now made it one wax paper per order... doesn't matter how much you order, you get one little paper. As I was picking up my to go order I asked for extra and the person at the pick área informed me that they can only give out one wax paper as is the new policy. I was completely like WHAT one paper literally doesn't cover my coffee table. The person literally had to ask her manager if she could give me extra! We're in a pandemic, eating out is a luxury, eating delicious messy food is...well... messy! I think it's pretty nuts that they've gotten this low with things. Not appreciated and very annoying. We came in to try their newish fried shrimp w/ rice & crab fries! The crab fries were delicious! They will replace ordering regular fries from now on. The Whole Shabang Fried Shrimp is really great because it is an alternative to the messy bag with almost the same amount of flavor. We will be adding these two items to our king crab order every time we come back. The Alhambra location can be a hit or miss, as with most locations but we are always willing to take the chance. Sometimes, we go for the Sweet Potato instead. How it works: choose a selection, add a flavor, and decide on a spice level. I always get half a pound of shrimp, the whole sha-bang, at mild spicy. Just enough to fill me up and satisfy my craving! SERVICE Always a welcoming staff. They get straight down to business on taking your order. Most people know exactly what they want after being seated - having decided while waiting outside. They do a pretty good job of refilling your water, food comes out in about ten minutes, and they bring you the check right away when you are done. Be warned - unless you go right after it opens, there is bound to be a wait time. In fact, it can get ridiculous to up to two hours! Check in with the hostess for an estimated wait time while putting your name on the waiting list. COVID safety precautions were spot on. I called to pick up shrimp, clams and fries, which were ready fairly quickly. When you order over the phone, they will send you a text message to confirm your order and will send a subsequent one once your order is ready, which was nice. Once I got in through the front doors, someone was there to assist immediately. The dining area is split in half. The left side for payment and the right side is is blocked or for employees to prepare all the orders. You'll be directed to the cashier who will complete your payment, stamp your receipt as paid and then you'll head back to the front of the restaurant where someone will check your receipt and give you your order. Food: ordered 1lb of shrimp in medium Cajun, order of snow crab in medium Garlic Sauce, half pound of sausage, one ear of corn, and a side of rice. Everything was delicious, except I couldn't help notice the prices has gone up significantly. Also, the sauce was significantly oilier than I remember but still full of flavor. Ambience: relax and casual, with loud music. Definitely great for group hangouts but be warned: this is a popular place so peak hours expect long waits. Smaller parties will have shorter waits. This was also my first experience eating this style of seafood so I really enjoyed it. The fries were also amazingly crunchy and fresh! However, I am giving Boiling Crab 4 stars instead of 5 because the attitude we received from our server when she was taking orders was just unignorable. I understand that the restaurant was very busy and she was probably a little bit stressed but the eye-rolls and attitude did not need to be projected onto us. They recently expanded this boiling crab a few months ago and I'm diggin' it. Made room for more tables and probably lesser wait times during peak hours. It also looks a little more modern and removed all the ugly "tagging" people did on the walls. This place is pretty consistent as far as there food goes. I always get shrimp, clams, corn and sometimes sausage all in the she bang medium sauce. Yum. If I'm super hungry, I'll throw in a fried catfish basket to mix it up with my she bang. Food comes out relatively fast, usually no more than 10 minutes.
