This is my preferred Boiling Crab in the SGV area. The Rowland Heights location is pretty good also. I significantly prefer this location over that of the Alhambra location because it's just so much more laid back here. The staff here are always smilling, well-trained, and extremely competent. My GF was having trouble with her dungeness crab and one of the staff grabbed an apron, gloves, and started helping her extract her meat! Wow! She also taught us how to break open the head and showed us which parts were edible. That's service! I also remembered to ask for a knife and fork! So I was happy. I asked for medium spice instead of mild and it had just enough kick for me it was also mild enough for me to fully enjoy the flavors of the dish. I feel I could handle the highest level of spice, but it would be at a cost to the natural flavors of the food. As with all locations, it's $0.25 for water. read more

Very hesitant to return after having a bad experience a few months back. I decided to give them another shot at this since the manager was very sincere with his apology and very professional about the whole situation. We ordered to go since they aren't doing any dining yet, the phone line is pretty busy, but you will get through after a few times. They claim they have three phone lines available yet when we called 10 times back to back the call did not go through. During my brief time inside there were 3 people just standing by the phones and no phone rang. Were the phones off the hook? Their story doesn't add up. They didn't allow people to wait inside when they clearly have markings for 6ft distance and the place being empty and big. It's 102 outside. They have benches outside. Yes outside which is allowed to sit on during covid and they won't even allow their customers to sit and wait there again when the temperature is 102. They allow outdoor dining. If they care so much about social distancing they should make sure the line to go in and pay is 6ft from the line leaving after paying. Obviously management hasn't thought through the process fully. This location also sucks compared to ktown because they skimp on the sauce which is the primary reason that makes this chain unique. By the time I left only 1 person was on the phone. read more

I am beyond disappointed by their customer service. I got 3.5 lbs of shrimp right before closing. I was enjoying the shrimp as always, however, I had to leave 2 lbs of shrimp in the bag. The rest of the shrimp was beyond disgusting. It was all soft, squishy and mushy as if they were overcooked. I was beyond shocked, because I have never eaten shrimp in my life that lacks crunch. It was so disgusting that I had to leave the rest in the bag. I was eating the shrimp with my mother, who became so disappointed and upset, that so she threw away the bag out of anger, and because of the strong smell. I called the Boiling Crab the next day to explain that I just wasted +$50 dollars on shrimp that was beyond disgusting. I had pictures to show how nasty they were, but the female manager that I spoke with on the phone said she couldn't do anything, and could only offer 1lbs of shrimp, which is only about $15 reimbursement. What a waste of money. I am a regular at boiling crab, who has wasted so much money on a company that doesn't even care about their customers. What a waste of my $50 and all the other times I came to eat at their restaurants. I am not coming back when their food is disgusting and they don't want to even be held accountable. What upset me was that the manager added "as an advice" to not close the bag of shrimp because it may overcook the shrimp in the bag. I told her that her advice is not relevant since the bag cannot turn shrimp into mushy shrimp. I agree that the shrimp may become softer but not squishy as butter. What happened to boiling crab? I used to love BC! But tonight I ordered 1lb of shrimp and fries and the shrimp was so disappointing. The "sauce" was more like a tasteless paste unlike the flavorful cajun-y sauce I know. It's like the forgot to put the butter and well.. flavor.. ? It was really strange.. Visited yesterday for my very first time ever! We were waiting outside with about 4-5 other parties for them to open. We were immediately sat and I was with boiling crab pros- so we ordered immediately which I think was smart because our food came soo fast! We didn't have to wait very long at all. The server was amazing! So friendly and she helped us put our bibs on. I felt kind of silly but everyone else had one on and now I understand why. I made a mess! We ordered a pound of shrimp each mild -the full shabang ? Whatever that meant. But everything was delicious! Our shrimp came out in a bag- we rolled down the sides and I added my salt and pepper & lemon- available upon request and started. It took me a while to figure out how to peel the shrimp the best way. The flavor was so good I was annoyed at all the work I had to do so I decided to be patient: I peeled all my shrimp on the table and then put the peeled ones back in the bag, added more lemon, and then was able to grab a shrimp, dip it in more sauce and just be able to enjoy it. Soo soo delicious! I ended up taking a small handful home. They line the table with a plastic table cover and you just throw the shrimp peels right there. It was fun. They have a 2 wash stations in the back - trust me you'll need them. These stations are outside of the restrooms themselves so you're not waiting to use the restroom just to wash your hands. They have all your favorite seafood goodies like crawfish, crab, lobster, shrimp, clams and oysters. Boiled with you choice of seasoning -cajun, Lemon pepper, garlic butter and the whole sha-bang (all three). For extra kick you can make it spicy which you get a choice of mild to super hot (XXX). What I love about this place is that you eat with your hands and their are no plates. The white sheet paper covering the table is your plate. It can really get messy, especially when you have to pick through with your hands 2-5 lbs of crabs, shrimps and crawfish. This is comfort food at its best. Fun and delicious. Every time I come here I get the crawfish, dungeness crab, shrimp, corn, and sausage prepared the whole sha-bang/XXX hot style. Your order comes to you on a hot steaming plastic bag which I refer to as my seafood goodie bag. It's so incredible and delicious. The garlic, butter, and spices take the seafood eating experience to another level. Perfect with a cold beer. Cons - Crowded during peak lunch and dinner hours. Expect 30-60 minute average wait. Parking can be challenging due to availability. I suggest you get here early or avoid peak time hours. They also take phone orders and pickup for those who don't want to dine-in and wait. I can never rip the head off of a shrimp, so thank god I had people to do it for me. catfish-I could still taste the fishiness of it, so I stayed away from it the whole night. chicken tenders-average corn-i love corn! 1. The other day, July 27, 2022, I made an over the counter order at Boiling Crab Alhambra Branch. I was told the order would take half an hour. It was 3:24 p.m. 2. As I sat on one of the tables, I was asked to wait outside under the scorching heat of the sun. Apparently, there was no provision for a waiting area inside the restaurant. (Are you kidding me?) 3. I spoke to the Manager for a seat at the table, and guess what he said? I can sit but will be asked to leave when people start coming in. For your information, the restaurant was empty at the time. It was an unnecessary nuisance. Thus, I cancelled my order and left. (I moved to Henry's Cuisine and was treated like a queen). Service is slow, don't get refills most of the time and yeah... wait is rediculous but its a trend and hot spot for folks. I end up coming because everyone always wasts to try it. However if you're from the 626 area, you know theres plenty of no-long wait places to go for better price and quality but its up to you because this atmosphere is rowdy and more fun for younger folks. I ordered takeout over the phone for one pound of shrimp and one pound of clams. They prepared my order pretty quickly. I got a text within 15 minutes saying that my order was ready for pick up. Their tables were all stacked up, and I had to pay at the counter and pick up the order near the exit. I saw many orders lined up, so they were busy. They still fulfilled my order swiftly though which is a plus. The market price seems like it always increases but never decreases. I typically get the whole shabang sauce, non-spicy. Usually, the sauce is just the right amount of flavor; however, this time, the sauce was a bit too salty for my liking. The saltiness took away from the flavor of the sauce. First time back in over a year and all I can say is that I'm quite satisfied. Of course I understand that boiling crab is a more expensive place to eat and I was definitely ready to pay $100 dollars. A pound of shrimp is usually 15-20 dollars but I think it tastes so goods. The chicken wings were fried to perfection crispy and juicy while the fries were flavorful and salty. It may be possible that I secretly love eating food with my hands but I think it's quite fun. This place would definitely be fun when quarantine is over and I can take the whole family. Line is super packed, so expect at least a 1hr+ wait time..Service was not bad despite how busy it was! Started off with the "Fried Calamari" and "Sweet Potato Fries" which was pretty good (6/10). "Oyster" with 6pcs wasn't that great personally (4/10). Crawfish, Shrimp, and Mussels was our favorite. (7/10). Clams were not bad (5/10). If you want to feel the heat get the whole sha-bang medium. Have always loved boiling crab. Over the years I've never had an issue. I've understood there's been a long wait because it's so good, but this last visit was different. Granted I'm still giving a 4 star review because it is still good, but this last visit was a little disturbing. Now I will preface this with saying I understand food costs have gone up, inflation etc. And also that I may have picked the most expensive thing on the menu assuming it would be a little higher in price,, but in my past experiences I never thought the need to ask the market price for king crab. We ordered not thinking the cost would be so high for it. Now I should've asked what the market price was on my end but man if a lb of king crab jumped that high I think it would've been nice if our server informed us of the price for the day as well. But 1lb of king crab for $80 is way too much. Our bill for 2 people was $188 not including tip. Not complaining about the food taste or the service but man I've been priced out of being able to eat here again. Pretty sad but I could've gone to an expensive steak house for this same price. Again, I understand the food costs have gone up but sad I can't come back here to get king crab again. This location is open only for take out during covid. They're enforcing social distancing in order to protect their workers while still serving customers. It's better to call ahead to place your order because it's a bit of a wait, esp longer since everyone there is pretty much tip toeing to get around because of social distancing lol. Parking can be found in the back lot and the lot across the street if you don't mind walking a bit to get to the restaurant. They have parking in front of you're lucky but is usually taken- you could wait for someone to leave but risk blocking traffic which is an all day thing. Overall the food is still good... their menu is not too big and pretty basic. I usually like to order their sha bang bang which is their fried shrimp with sauce on top and once awhile their fried oysters. Shrimp is back in season, and I'm glad that this restaurant follows through with the quality. I took off one star because I have noticed that the portions are a bit inconsistent.
